Abstract:This paper focuses on the manufacturer how use contract menu which contained wholesale price contract and revenue sharing contract to incentive multiple suppliers to improve accessories quality. The manufacturer requires suppliers' accessories quality must be measured up and takes revenue sharing contract as incentive mechanism for quality improvement.We found that manufacturer can achieve its income and quality of accessories win-win by setting compensation structure reasonably.Then,we studied the impact of fairness preference which existing in suppliers group on the incentive efficiency. Research shows that:the compensation structure which performed well in group which has no fairness preference can not keep high efficiency when applied to incentive suppliers who have fairness preference, which has negative effects on incentive performance.Any compensation structure which manufacturer adopted can not.maintain its primary efficiency when existing fairness preference:only adjust a single incentive factor or neglect the synergy between incentive factors can not achieve a high incentive efficiency.

Abstract:A service supply chain is established on the basis of service outsourcing. It is hard for the service provider to monitor the service supplier's behavior, because the service is offered directly to the customers by the supplier. Therefore, the service provider should build up an incentive mechanism to stimulate the supplier to offer high quality service. This paper studies the optimal incentive mechanism for service supply chain based on the buy-back contract. By setting up the incentive model, the research mainly discusses the prior condition for the supplier to offer costly effort, the optimal incentive mechanism and the condition to validate incentive, etc. The result shows that: It is unnecessary to offer an incentive to the service supplier in all service supply chains, and there is a discontinuous point on the incentive payment curve.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider quality improvement efforts coordination in a two-stage decentralised supply chain with a partial cost allocation contract. The supply chain consists of one supplier and one manufacturer, both of which produce defective products. Two kinds of failure cost occur within the supply chain: internal and external. The supplier and the manufacturer determine their individual quality levels to maximise their own profits. We propose a partial cost allocation contract, under which the external failure cost is allocated between the manufacturer and the supplier at different rates based on information derived from failure root cause analysis. If the quality levels of the supplier and the manufacturer are observable, we show that the partial cost allocation contract coordinates the supply chain, provided that the failure root cause analysis does not erroneously identify the manufacturer's fault as the supplier's, and the supplier does not take responsibility for the manufacture's fault. In the single moral hazard model, where only the quality level of the supplier is unobservable, the optimal share rates require the supplier to take some responsibility for the manufacture's fault. However, in the double moral hazard model, where quality levels of the supplier and the manufacturer are unobservable to each other, the optimal share rates require the supplier not to take responsibility for the manufacturer's fault. It is noted that the root cause analysis conducted by the manufacturer may have its disadvantage in attributing the fault to the supplier when both sides are at fault. We also propose a contract based on the dual root cause analysis to reduce the supplier's penalty cost. Numerical results illustrate that the partial cost allocation contract satisfies the fairness criterion compared with the traditional cost allocation contract.

Abstract:More and more e-tailers (platforms) are allowing manufacturers direct access to customers. Two common contracts are offered by platforms to manufacturers: the revenue sharing contract where a platform appropriates a portion of the manufacturer’s revenue, and the fixed fee contract where a platform charges a fixed rent for each sale. Using an analytical model, this paper studies the interrelationship between a platform’s contract choice and a manufacturer’s product quality decision. We find that if product quality is exogenously given, the platform will always adopt the revenue sharing contract. If the manufacturer endogenously decides the quality, however, the platform’s contract choice may be changed. This is because the revenue sharing contract, compared to fixed fee, leads to a lower selling price of the manufacturer, whereas the fixed fee contract can motivate a higher quality than does revenue sharing. As a result, a large (small) market heterogeneity induces the platform to adopt the revenue sharing (fixed fee) contract. We also extend the model to several directions, finding that longer product line, manufacturer competition, lower marginal production cost, and higher platform cost all tend to induce the platform to put forward a fixed fee contract; while if quality decision is less flexible than contract decision, the platform is more ready to embrace revenue sharing. Besides, when there are two platforms competing for the same market, they should differentiate their contract choices so as to mitigate competition.

Abstract:The quality of primary products in a supply chain is determined by the agent and the principal. Simultaneously, there are quota production constraints on the principals. Our discourse centers on the design of incentive contracts for agents within these supply chains. We derived the parameters describing the contract, level of effort, profits for both sides, and the minimum requirements of the principal for the proportion of high-quality primary products. This study compares the decision-making paradigms of agents and principals in various contexts. The results show that decision-making mechanisms are strongly influenced by individual effort costs, various internal and external organizational variables, and the interplay of efforts on both sides. Using numerical experiments, we investigate the effects of different situations between clients and contractors on contracting and effort strategies. The results show that when the agent exerts unilateral effort, reasonable incentive contracts can spur the agent to increase effort and thus increase the proportion of high-quality primary products. In the case of bilateral efforts, a well-calibrated contract design benefits the agent (bearing less risk). For the principal, the expected profit increases in most cases. When considering the quota production, it is necessary to set an appropriate limit on the proportion of high-quality primary products.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the information technology industry, refurbished products play significant roles in this challenge of environmental, economic, and social performance revolution. Meanwhile, when the refurbished product is launched in the market compete with new products, how and whom to repair the used products effectively and what kind of effective coordinate incentive mechanisms utilized to alleviate conflict and achieve the challenge become one of the most significant issues. Therefore, this study compares two refurbishing structures (manufacturer refurbishing and retailer refurbishing) under three different contract incentive mechanisms (wholesale price, revenue sharing, and reward points contracts) in two periods closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) model with demand uncertainty. Our results show that the manufacturer should allow his retailer to refurbish used products under the condition of using reward points contract strategies. It will help improve the whole channel performance and create much higher profits. Meanwhile, all channel members benefit from the reward point contract in the manufacturer refurbishing scenarios. However, manufacturers prefer revenue-sharing contracts while retailers prefer wholesale price contracts in the retailer refurbishing scenarios.

Abstract:Despite the many benefits of outsourcing, firms are still concerned about the lack of critical information regarding both the risk levels and actions of their suppliers, who are usually just a few links away. Usually, companies manage supply chain risks by deferring payments to suppliers until after the delivery has been made. Even though the deferred payment approach shunts the risk from the buyer to the supplier, recent supply chain failures suggest that it does not necessarily eliminate the risk completely. Hence, many companies offer incentives and conduct inspections of the actions taken at the source rather than waiting for the end delivery. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of such incentive and inspection mechanisms undertaken by manufacturers to manage the quality of suppliers who are “privately” aware of the risk of failure. By comparing the agency costs associated with each contractual setting, we characterize the value of output- and action-based incentive mechanisms from the perspective of the manufacturer. We find that employing action-based incentives is effective for the manufacturer, specifically when working with a supplier that faces high costs of production and quality improvement. However, if the manufacturer faces high inspection costs or a low degree of information asymmetry, employing an output-based contract that results in differentiated quality improvement efforts becomes more effective. Finally, we analyze the marginal value of the combined contracting strategy and characterize when it strictly dominates over output- and effort-based contracts. Abstract:Recently, device-to-device (D2D) communication has emerged to offer opportunities for high-rate wireless transmission locally in cellular networks. Such proximity-based communication technology, with advantages in high data transmission rate, spectrum efficiency, and energy efficiency over traditional technologies, has attracted tremendous research interest. Since D2D communication highly relies on user participation, providing incentives is critical to enable D2D communication with desired quality of service (QoS). Existing popular approaches for designing incentive mechanisms (e.g., auction) may cause large overhead of both communication and computation, and thus is inefficient for D2D communication. In this article, we introduce contract theory to provide effective and distinctive incentive mechanisms, which can also reduce computation and communication costs and thus has great potential for practical implementation. To evaluate the performance of the proposed contract-based approach, we also provide a case study that shows the advantages of contract theory in designing efficient incentives and handling uncertainty.

Abstract:Based on quantity flexibility contract,this paper constructed a pure service two-echelon structure and analyzed the service supply chain's incentive mechanism and coordination mechanism.The paper argues that in order to optimize the benefits of service supply chain,it calls for the service provider to implement incentive mechanism on service supplier,and the incentive mechanism directly affects the coordination criteria and the feasibility of coordination in service supply chain as well as the flexibility of profit distribution.The results show that service supply chains based on quantity flexibility contract can realize coordination,and has good flexibility of the profit distribution;but different from the product supply chain,service supply chain coordination is subject to related parameters from specified service supply chains such as suppliers' effort cost,demand distribution under different efforts,etc.

Abstract:Quality emerges as a pivotal competitive factor for agricultural products. Recently, retailers within agricultural supply chains have begun investing in technologies to improve quality and designing contracts to incentivize farmers to enhance their labor inputs. The farmers and the retailers incur different quality investment costs, with this cost increasing in the quality they provide. Simultaneously, retailers have embraced the farmer-competition strategy, employing competition to stimulate improved agricultural product quality among farmers. We construct a Stackelberg game model to analyze how farmers’ quality investment, retailer’s contract design, and profits are affected by the retailer’s farmer-competition strategy. We show that the farmer competition introduced by the retailer is not always effective in improving the farmer’s quality investment. Similarly, the competition cannot always lead to additional profits for the retailer. Moreover, the supply chain profit suffers from the retailer’s farmer-competition strategy when the competition intensity between farmers is relatively large. Our results offer insights for retailers by identifying how should the retailer design the contract to improve the farmer’s quality effort given the existence of the farmer competition and under what conditions the retailer should adopt the farmer-competition strategy.

Abstract:The research of supplier incentive strategy is the key issue for improving the supplier quality in the supply chain environment.Take a domestic conveyor belt manufacturing enterprise named A for example,analyze the reasons of instability in supplier quality and the impact on A,study the incentives of improving the supplier quality and implement relevant supplier incentive strategy.This study will use combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods,obtain the data through a questionnaire from A's suppliers and internal interviews of A's staffs,use statistics method to carry on the correlations analysis to obtain influences of different incentive strategy and finally determines the incentive strategy of improving the supplier quality.The research results will provide important help for Chinese manufacturing enterprises to improve the supplier quality under the supply chain environment,thereby to help manufacturing enterprises improving product quality and operational efficiency.

Abstract:This paper considers how to structure contractual incentives between a buyer and a single supplier of raw materials when early shipments are forbidden. A leader-follower game is used to take the supplier's behavior into account in the buyer's choice of incentives. Combinations of two types of incentives that the buyer might offer are considered: (1) a fixed-value, ali-or-nothing incentive and (2) an incentive that decreases in value as time elapses. Given a desired probability of on-time delivery, optimal incentives are found by specifying indifference curves for on-time delivery and assessing the expected total cost of incentive schemes along that curve. Difficulties of using incentives to achieve 100% on-time delivery are considered and three example flow time distributions are presented.

Abstract:Incentive mechanism design and quality control are two key challenges in data crowdsourcing, because of the need for recruitment of crowd users and their limited capabilities. Without considering users' social influences, existing mechanisms often result in low efficiency in terms of the platform's cost. In this paper, we exploit social influences among users as incentives to motivate users' participation, in order to reduce the cost of recruiting users. Based on social influences, we design incentive mechanisms with the goal of achieving high quality of crowdsourced data and low cost of incentivizing users' participation. Specifically, we consider three scenarios. In the full information scenario, we design task assignment and user recruitment mechanisms to optimize the data quality while reducing the incentive cost. In the partial information scenario, users' qualities and costs are unknown. We exploit the correlation between tasks to overcome the information asymmetry, for both cases of opportunistic crowdsourcing and participatory crowdsourcing. Further, in the dynamic social influence scenario, we investigate the dynamics of users' social influences and design extra rewards for users to make full use of the social influence and achieve maximum cost saving. We evaluate the incentive mechanisms using numerical results, which demonstrate their effectiveness.

Abstract:This paper studies one owner and many contractors construction system,in which the owner uses revenue sharing contract,to stimulate contractors on project quality coordination.We build a multi-stage incentive model on condition that contractors have fairness perceptions,and make an analysis of performance and evolution under different sharing contract coefficients by computational experiment.The results show that:based on the owner's benefits,a revenue sharing contract can both improve his profit and construction quality to some degree;individual fairness perceptions have a negative influence on incentive performance;increasing revenue sharing coefficient is helpful to improve the stability of the incentive effect and construction quality;revenue sharing coefficient should be determined properly to achieve a high incentive effect.

Abstract:In the domain of international construction projects, managing supply chains presents distinct challenges due to the intricate task of coordinating multiple stakeholders within diverse cultural, economic, and regulatory contexts. Prior research highlights the significance of incentive mechanisms and collaborative procurement practices, yet the effectiveness of these strategies in augmenting performance for international projects has not been extensively examined. This investigation explores the effects of financial and non-financial incentives on the performance of global construction projects, with a focus on the mediating role of cooperation. Data were gathered from Chinese international contractors and local suppliers and subsequently analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The results reveal two separate pathways of influence. Firstly, financial incentives exhibited substantial direct and indirect impacts on project performance; secondly, while non-financial incentives did not directly affect project performance, they significantly impacted cooperation levels, which in turn mediated the relationship between non-financial incentives and project performance. This study provides essential perspectives for managing international construction projects, emphasizing the critical need for the combined application of financial and non-financial incentives to foster cooperation and ultimately achieve superior project outcomes.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem in information sharing on the supply chain flexible contract design once the information cost is very high in the supply chain collaboration, this paper investigates the performance improvement from bom collaborative parties in the supply chain when using flexible contract parameters before and after information sharing based on the methods of economic analysis and mathematics modeling. The outcomes demonstrate that the satisfactory or optimal contract parameters can be obtained for designing a flexible contract and achieving sharing the cost rationally. Also, the benefits bom parties gain after information sharing will be no less than that before information sharing. Thus Pareto improvement of the benefits for both parties will be realized. Therefore, downstream enterprises will be induced actively to share information with upstream enterprises. The study provides a useful method for further research on supply chain contract design and information sharing incentive.

Abstract:This paper studies the value to a supplier of obtaining better information about a buyer's cost structure, and of being able to offer more general contracts. We use the bilateral monopoly setting to analyze six scenarios: three increasingly general contracts (wholesale-pricing schemes, two-part linear schemes, and twopart nonlinear schemes), each under full and incomplete information about the buyer's cost structure. We allow both sides to refuse to trade by explicitly including reservation profit levels for both; for the supplier, this is implemented through a cutoff policy. We derive the supplier's optimal contracts and profits for all six scenarios and examine the value of information and of more general contracts. Our key findings are as follows: First, the value of information is higher under two-part contracts; second, the value of offering two-part contracts is higher under full information; and third, the proportion of buyers the supplier will choose to exclude can be substantial.
