The original equation of elastic impedance was proposed according to the Aki-Richards approximation for the Zoeppritz equation. However, in the process of calculating elastic impedance, the incident angle is usually used as the angle parameter of the equation instead of the average of the incident and refracted angle. This calculation brings error to the result of the elastic impedance inversion, especially when the difference between the elastic parameters of the sand and shale layers is large. We present an optimized elastic impedance inversion method, which significantly reduces errors and improves the inversion result. Tests on synthetic data prove that the new method is accurate. A test on a real data set demonstrates the feasibility of the elastic impedance inversion method.
