Abstract:Fe3O4/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composites were prepared through a facile hydrolysis route and subsequent annealing process and used as the electroactive materials for supercapacitors. The asprepared Fe3O4/rGO composites exhibit much higher specific capacitances than either pure rGO or pure Fe3O4, meanwhile, the electrochemical performance of Fe3O4/rGO composites with different amount of AGO has been compared. The optimized Fe3O4/rGO composites (FG-0.8) exhibit the highest specific capacitance of 350.6 Fg(-1) at 1 mV s(-1), 157.6 F g(-1) of the specific capacitance can still be retained when the scan rate increases 100 times to 100 mV s-1, indicating a good rate capability. These Fe3O4/rGO composites also show excellent cycling performance without any decrease of specific capacitance after 10,000 cycles. These fascinating performances can be attributed to the positive synergistic effect between Fe3O4 and rGO. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The magnetic irregular hexagonal-Fe3O4 sheets/reduced graphene oxide composite (HFGC) was fabricated via colloidal electrostatic assembly process, followed a heat treatment process. The TEM images showed that irregular hexagonal-Fe3O4 sheets generated from Fe(OH)(3) colloid particles were loaded onto reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets. The ideal rectangular cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves of HFGC in different scan rates indicated the character of double layer capacitance with the excellent capacitive behavior. Tested by the galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) experiments in 6 M KOH aqueous electrolyte, HFGC exhibited a specific capacitance of 193 Fg(-1) at 0.3 A g(-1). Furthermore, the cycling stability of HFGC was tested under a density of 0.5 A g(-1). The capacitance maintain as 90.4% after 1000 cycles, indicating the desirable cyclic stability. Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs)/graphene composites are interesting as promising electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitors because they can well integrate the complementary features of QDs and graphene. Herein, we demonstrate a MnFe2O4 QDs/nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) material prepared by a controllable solvothermal synthesis, in which ultra-small MnFe2O4 QDs are uniformly anchored on NG surfaces. First-principles calculations elucidate that the oxygen-containing groups of graphene oxide play a crucial role in generating such a structure, and a ferrite octahedral skeleton is firstly formed followed by Mn atom insertion. Powdery MnFe2O4 QDs/NG exhibits a high specific capacitance of 517 F g(-2) within a negative potential window (-1 approximate to 0 V) in KOH electrolyte. When the lower cut off voltage is extended to -1.2 V, the specific capacitance can be increased to 905 F g(-1). And the condensed MnFe2O4 QDs@NG electrode (forming a similar structure to pitaya slices) with an astonishing loading mass of 18 mg cm(-2) can achieve high areal and volumetric capacitances (5.3 F cm(-2) and 277.6 F cm(-3)). Moreover, carbon encapsulation is favorable for the improvement of rate and cycling performance, allowing a satisfactory capacitance of 150 F g(-1) even at 200 A g(-1) as well as a superior lifetime up to 65000 cycles. These results make such materials competitive with supercapacitor electrodes and may speed up the development of QD-based electrodes for energy storage applications.

Abstract:In this paper, a Fe3O4 nanocrystals@graphene composite (FGC) was synthesized via a chemical deposition method by using graphene oxide as a precursor. We also investigate the structures, physicochemical properties and applications of FGCs, involving superparamagnetic performance, and use as supercapacitors and lithium ion battery (LIBs). The results showed that the Fe3O4 NCs were formed and incorporated onto the surface of the graphene sheets. The composite material FGC with a micrometre scale structure possessed similar size as the graphene sheets and exhibited superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature. The supercapacitance values of the FGC composites were enlarged compared with those of the graphene sheets or Fe3O4 NCs, which is attributed to the interaction between the Fe3O4 NCs and the graphene sheets. Meanwhile, a superior rechargeable stability of FGCs used as an anode material in LIBs can be observed.

Abstract:Supercapacitors are potential energy storage devices with a broad range of applications. In this study, we are investigating a bismuth ferrite/graphitic carbon nitride/N-doped graphene quantum dots composite as an electrode material for supercapacitor applications. XRD patterns of the composite exhibit the different crystalline phases of the individual component and confirm the rhombohedral structure of the composite. The wafer-like structure of bismuth ferrite is produced via hydrothermal technique supported on 2D structures viz. graphitic carbon nitride and N-doped graphene quantum dots. Compared to bismuth ferrite and bismuth ferrite/graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) binary composite, the bismuth ferrite/g-CN/N-doped graphene quantum dots demonstrates a superior specific capacitance of 1472 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 current density. After 3000 charging-discharging cycles, the device maintains its cycling stability with 87% capacitance retention. A supercapacitor device is assembled utilizing bismuth ferrite/graphitic carbon nitride/N-doped graphene quantum dots and activated carbon as electrodes. This device shows a significantly improved performance with an energy density of 53.1 Wh kg−1 and a power density of 705.4 W kg−1. As a result, the composite electrode developed in this study is proved to be a potential electrode material for high-performance energy storage devices.

Abstract:The porous flower-like microsphere structure composite of gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3), tricobalt tetraoxide (Co3O4) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was prepared on the nickel foam (NF) substrate by the hydrothermal synthesis method and annealing process, which can be directly used as an electrode material for supercapacitors without any conductive adhesive or binder. This porous nanostructure not only improves the conductivity of the electrode, but it also shortens the migration route of ions and electrons. The innovative electrode of Gd2O3/Co3O4/rGO/NF has a high specific capacitance of 3616 F·g-1 (1 A·g-1). And the supercapacitor is assembled, with a specific capacitance of 442.5 F·g-1 (0.5 A·g-1) at room temperature (20 °C) and strong multiplicative performance (current density from 0.5 to 20 A·g-1, specific capacitance retention of 65.9 %). At a power density of 300 W·kg-1, the energy density reaches 88.5 Wh·kg-1, and the performance stays relatively stable across a large working temperature range of 0 to 60 °C. The specific capacitance is 368.3 F·g-1 even at temperatures up to 60 °C and 415.0 F·g-1 at temperatures below 0 °C. Even after 40,000 cycles at a high current density of 10 A·g-1, the capacity retention is 93.3 %, suggesting exceptional cycling stability. This study demonstrates the potential practical application of Gd2O3/Co3O4/rGO/NF electrodes in supercapacitors.

Abstract:Supercapacitors (SCs) have been considered as inspiring energy storage devices due to the long cycle lifetime and high power densities. However, their energy density is limited due to the low capacitance of cathode materials and inferior cycling stability at practically useable potential windows > 1.2 V. In this paper, we demonstrate the synthesis of a novel ternary Fe3O4-rGO-MoO3 nano-composite (FGM) with nanoparticles-like morphology (NPs) by utilizing the fast and facile microwave hydrothermal process. The optimized composition of FGM nanocomposite is characterized by the XPS, EDS, Raman, SEM, TEM and HRTEM techniques. The FGM-NPs supported on the carbon cloth (FGM@CC) electrode is used to investigate the electrochemical charge storage properties in basic potassium hydroxide (KOH) electrolyte. The charge-storage properties of the FGM@CC electrode were studied by the CV, GCD and EIS techniques. The obtained results of FGM@CC electrode in aqueous electrolyte showed excellent electrochemical performance as compared with single metal oxides: maximum specific capacitance of 1666.50 F g(-1) (FGM@CC), 1075.26 F g(-1) (Fe3O4 NPs) and 952.38 F g(-1) (MoO3 NPs) at a current density of 2.5 A g(-1). The capacitance retention was 95.01% (FGM@CC ), 94.1% (Fe(3)O(4)NPs) and 92.5% (MoO3 NPs) after 5000 cycles. Further, the charge storage mechanism is analyzed in the light of power's law and systematical investigated the capacitive and diffusion controlled based stored charge in FGM@CC electrode. Thus FGM nano-composite showed best performance as the cathode material for the next generation flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract:A three dimensional (3D) composite electrode of graphene/copper-nickel foam (CNF) was fabricated by successively immersing commercial CNF into polydopamine (PDA) aqueous solution and graphene oxide (GO) suspension solution, followed by an annealing process. CNF acted as a substrate for the composite film, as well as the copper and nickel source, and the formation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and nitrogen doping were achieved simultaneously during the annealing process. The novel rGO/PDA/CNF composite electrode exhibited an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2427.3 F g(-1) at 2 A g(-1), a superior rate capability of 52.1% capacitance retention at 50 A g(-1)vs. 1 A g(-1), an excellent cycling stability that meant the specific capacitance reached its maximum value after being fully activated and retained 99.5% of the value even after 5000 cycles, a maximum energy density of 92.9 W h kg(-1) and a power density of 9.6 kW kg(-1) in 1 M KOH electrolyte. The synthesis method and excellent properties offer an effective strategy for fabricating various composites and exhibit promising applications in energy storage devices.

Abstract:Manganese oxide (MnO2)/three-dimensional (3D) reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composites were prepared by a reverse microemulsion (water/oil) method. MnO2 nanoparticles (3–20nm in diameter) with different morphologies were produced and dispersed homogeneously on the macropore surfaces of the 3D RGO. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were applied to characterize the microstructure of the composites. The MnO2/3D RGO composites, which were annealed at 150°C, displayed a significantly high specific capacitance of 709.8Fg−1 at 0.2Ag−1. After 1000 cycles, the capacitance retention was measured to be 97.6%, which indicates an excellent long-term stability of the MnO2/3D RGO composites.

Abstract:A Fe2O3/reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/Fe3O4 nanocomposite in situ grown on Fe foil was synthesized via a simple one-step hydrothermal growth process, where the iron foil served as support, reductant of graphene oxide, Fe source of Fe3O4, and also the current collector of the electrode. When it directly acted as the electrode of a supercapacitor, as-synthesized Fe2O3/RGO/Fe3O4@Fe exhibited excellent electrochemical performance with a high capability of 337.5 mF/cm2 at 20 mA/cm2 and a superior cyclability with 2.3% capacity loss from the 600th to the 2000th cycle.

Abstract:The development of lightweight, flexible, electrochemically active materials with high efficiency is important for energy storage and conversion. In this study, we report the fabrication of a freestanding, 3-dimensional graphene/cobalt sulfide nanoflake (3DG/CoSx) composite for supercapacitors and hydrogen evolution catalysts. The graphene framework formed by chemical vapour deposition provides superlight, highly conductive electron transport pathways, as well as abundant pores for electrolyte penetration. The densely patterned cobalt sulfide nanoflake arrays grown by electrodeposition offer a large surface area for electrochemical reactions, high theoretical capacitance and efficient hydrogen evolution catalytic activity. As a proof-of-concept, supercapacitors made of the 3DG/CoSx composites deliver a high specific capacitance of 443 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1), with excellent capacity retention of 86% after 5000 cycles and mechanical flexibility. In addition, the 3DS/CoSx composites show attractive features as hydrogen evolution catalysts, with a low overpotential of 0.11 V and a Tafel slope of 93 mV dec(-1).

Abstract:The graphene/pseudocapacitive composite electrode materials used for energy storage usually benefit from the advantages of each component, however, they also face significant challenges in terms of structural integrity and rate performance due to the weak interactions and limited interface area between different phases. To tackle these issues, we propose a facile strategy that integrates 2D/2D van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonds to effectively and closely bind each component together. We illustrate this concept by designing and constructing a heterojunction fiber that immobilizes protonated g-C 3 N 4 onto GO nanosheets through electrostatic self -assembly. The resulting g-C 3 N 4 /RGO heterostructure fiber exhibits enhanced electrical conductivity and improved mechanical properties. When utilized as a supercapacitor electrode, it demonstrates high specific capacitances of 70.6 F cm -3 at a current density ( I d ) value of 0.1 A cm -3 , in addition to exceptional cyclic stability (Retaining 99.4 % after 15000 cycles), rate capability (Retaining 55.8 % at I d = 2 A cm -3 ), and enduring mechanical flexibility. We anticipate that this study will inspire the fabrication of heterostructure fibers for durable and high -rate energy storage devices.

Abstract:Obtaining electrode materials with excellent electrochemical properties is always a challenge in the research of new energy materials. This paper presents a novel composite material prepared using a simple method, which involves embedding core-shell Co3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles onto highly conductive reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with excellent electrochemical performance. The results indicate that the encapsulation of the polymer with the core-shell material enhances the electro-chemical performance. In this process, graphene oxide is reduced to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by the hydrothermal method, and then the prepared core-shell Co3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles are embedded into the network structure of reduced graphene oxide (rGO). In addition, we investigate the optimal mass ratio of the core-shell material Co3O4@SiO2 and rGO in the Co3O4@SiO2/rGO composite. We prepare composites with different ratios of 4:1, 2:1, 4:3, 1:1, and 4:5, Co3O4@SiO2/rGO. The experimental results illustrate that when the current density is 0.4 A/g, the specific capacitance of the composite Co3O4@SiO2/rGO (1:1) is up to 216 F/g, and the volumetric capacitance is 372 F cm-3, which is more than fivefold higher than that of the core-shell material Co3O4@SiO2. Such large performance improvement is mainly attributed to the addition of rGO which can improve the conductivity of the entire composite material and the aggregation of Co3O4@SiO2, thus provid-ing more active sites. This study confirms that the electrochemical properties of graphene oxide can be greatly improved by the combination of hydrothermal reduction graphene oxide with core-shell material Co3O4@SiO2, which provides a certain reference value for the further research of high-performance electrode materials

Abstract:We present a facile method to fabricate well-crystalline reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/NiO composites for supercapacitor electrodes. The RGO/CNT/NiO (GCN) composite takes dual advantages of CNTs and RGO. CNTs present the aggregation of RGO/NiO and improve the electron transport of GCN composites owing to their good conductivity. The restricting effect of RGO makes NiO nanoparticles have more active sites. Attributed to the uniform structure and improved electrical conductivity, GCN composites exhibit highly enhanced electrochemical performance compared with that of RGO/NiO and CNT/NiO composites. The specific capacitance of GCN composites is about 1180 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) together with a capacitance retention of 95% (1000 F g(-1)) over 2000 cycles at 4 A g(-1). GCN composites have proven to be very promising as energy storage electrode materials.

Abstract:In today's technological landscape, energy storage devices such as batteries and supercapacitors play a critical role, with hybrid variants attracting significant attention. This study focuses on synthesizing a ternary nanocomposite material composed of reduced graphene oxide adorned Cu-doped NiO (RGO@Cu-NiO NC) for high-performance supercapacitor device applications. Unlike most research that analyzes NiO-based nanocomposites in alkaline electrolytes, our study explores RGO@Cu-NiO NCs coated on woven carbon fiber in Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte, revealing a more dominant surface reaction mechanism. Electrochemical analysis unveiled that the specific capacitances of RGO@Cu-NiO NCs surpass those of Cu-doped NiO NPs by 1.14 times and those of pristine NiO nanoparticles (NPs) by 1.28 times, showcasing a remarkable enhancement in performance. Additionally, the study investigated the charge storage mechanism, providing intriguing insights into the capacity contribution from RGO@Cu-NiO NC to the overall capacitance. The outstanding performance of RGO@Cu-NiO NCs is attributed to incorporating RGO sheets and enhancing charge-storage capacity through facilitated conductive networks. Impressively, the material retained 94 % capacity even after 10,000 cycles. Furthermore, a symmetric supercapacitor device (SSD) based on RGO@Cu-NiO NCs demonstrated a notable specific capacitance of 261.25 F/g at 1.5 A/g, along with 43.54 Wh/kg energy density at 750 W/kg power density, and retained ~96 % capacitance after 10,000 cycles. These findings establish RGO@Cu-NiO nanocomposites as auspicious materials for advanced supercapacitor applications.

Fabrication of Cobaltosic Oxide Nanoparticle-Doped 3 D MXene/Graphene Hybrid Porous Aerogels for All-Solid-State Supercapacitors.

Abstract:MXenes are a new family of 2 D transition metal carbides and nitrides, which have attracted enormous attention in electrochemical energy storage, sensing technology, and catalysis owing to their good conductivity, high specific surface area, and excellent electrochemical properties. In this work, a series of Co3 O4 -doped 3 D MXene/RGO hybrid porous aerogels is designed and prepared through a facile in situ reduction and thermal annealing process, in which the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) conductive network can electrically link the separated Co3 O4 -MXene composite nanosheets, leading to enhanced electronic conductivity. It is found that upon using the Co3 O4 -MXene/RGO hybrid porous aerogel prepared with a mass ratio of Co3 O4 -MXene/RGO of 3:1 (CMR31) as an electrode for a supercapacitor, a superior specific capacitance of 345 F g-1 at the current density of 1 A g-1 is achieved, which is significantly higher than those of Ti3 C2 Tx MXene, RGO, and MXene/RGO electrodes. In addition, a high capacitance retention (85 % of the initial capacitance after 10 000 cycles at a high current density of 3 A g-1 ) and a low internal resistance Rs (0.44 Ω) can be achieved. An all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device is assembled using CMR31, and it has the ability to light up a blue LED indicator for 5 min if four ASCs are connected in series. Abstract:A self-assembled composite of bimorph 1-D akaganeite (beta-FeOOH) into 2-D graphene-carbon nanotube matrix (GC) is prepared via hydrothermal method. The well ordered, chemically bonded structure results in low resistance and improved ion diffusion which enables the composite to deliver a specific capacitance of 533 F g (1) at current density of 1 A g (1). An asymmetric supercapacitor has also been assembled using GC as cathode and GC-FeOOH as anode which exhibits a high energy density of 36.6 W h kg (1) at the power density of 1.2 kW kg (1). Abstract:We attempt to meet the general design requirements for high-performance supercapacitor electrodes by combining the strategies of lightweight substrate, porous nanostructure design, and conductivity modification. We fabricate a new type of 3D porous and thin graphite foams (GF) and use as the light and conductive substrates for the growth of metal oxide core/shell nanowire arrays to form integrated electrodes. The nanowire core is Co3O4, and the shell is a composite of conducting polymer (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), PEDOT) and metal oxide (MnO2). To show the advantage of this integrated electrode design (viz., GF + Co3O4/PEDOT MnO2 core/shell nanowire arrays), three other different less-integrated electrodes are also prepared for comparison. Full supercapacitor devices based on the GF + Co3O4/PEDOT-MnO2 as positive electrodes exhibit the best performance compared to other three counterparts due to an optimal design of structure and a synergistic effect.
Design and Fabrication of Advanced Cathode and Anode Materials for Hybrid Supercapacitors Based on Graphitic Carbon Quantum Dot-Decorated Reduced Graphene Oxide Composite Aerogels

Abstract:A graphene aerogel-based composite has recently been deemed as a prospective electrode material for advanced energy storage devices. Here, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are simultaneously utilized as the conductive agents, intercalators, and stable links to boost the electrochemical property of graphene composite aerogels due to their many natural advantages. The three-dimensional (3D) N, S dual-doped CQDs/reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/NiCo2S4 composite aerogel (N,S-CQDs/rGO/NiCo2S4) is first fabricated through a one-pot hydrothermal way and utilized as a supercapacitor cathode, exhibiting a large specific capacity of 162.6 mA h g–1 at 1 A g–1, splendid rate property with 77.3% capacity retention at 50 A g–1, and good cyclic stability with 87.5% capacity retention after 5000 cycles, which originates from the synergistic interaction of the 3D reticulation N,S-CQDs/rGO aerogel framework with excellent conductivity and structural stability and NiCo2S4 nanoparticles with abundant Faradaic redox reactions. Further, the resulting N,S-CQDs/rGO/NiCo2S4 cathode is coupled with the prepared N,S-CQDs/rGO anode to assemble a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) device, manifesting a superior energy density (51.0 W h kg–1), an ultrahigh power density (14.4 kW kg–1), and good cyclic stability with 82.9% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles. The present study offers a good strategy for designing and exploiting superior energy storage systems by utilizing the CQDs/rGO composite aerogel simultaneously as both the cathode and anode.

Abstract:A Co3O4/RGO/Co3O4(CRC) pseudocomposite on a cobalt foil was prepared using a one-pot in situ hydrothermal method. Carrying out a chemical redox reaction between the Co foil and graphene oxide (GO), which involved an electrostatic attraction between GO (negative charge) and Co2+ (positive charge), allowed for the design and construction of a novel sandwich structure including Co3O4 (from Co2+ ions), RGO, and Co3O4 (from the Co foil). The CRC@Co nanocomposite was directly utilized as a binder-free supercapacitor electrode. When this composite was prepared at 200 degrees C for 24 h, it exhibited superior electrochemical performances: a specific capacitance of 2272.7 mF cm(-2) at 5 mA cm(-2), and a capacity retention of 81.6% after 2000 charge-discharge cycles.
