Isolation and Identification of Cryptococcus Neoformans from Pigeon Dropping

Abstract:Thirty two Cryptococcus neoformans strains were isolated from 144 samples of pigeon droppings in private and public square pigeon shelters in Shanghai on GAEC. The positive isolation rate was 22.2％ (32/144). All strains are Cry. neoformans var. neoformans and serotype A identified by Crypto. Cheek Kit(Iatron laboratories Inc Tokyo, Japan). Also, Christensen's Urea testes were all positive. Mice were inoculated by two strains in abdomen and same strains can be isolated again. All strains can grow well at 37℃ . All above showed that these strains have pathogenicity.
