Study of Neuronal Expression of IL-1β and IL-1ra and Neuronal Apoptosis in the Seizure Rats

Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between neuronal apoptosis and neuronal expression of IL-1β and IL-1ra induced by seizures. Methods Seizures animal model were established by Pilocarpine. Neuronal apoptosis was assessed by in situ terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling(TUNEL). IL-1β and IL-1ra expression were examined by histochemistry. Results TUNEL positive cells and IL-1β and IL-1ra expression were increased in hippocampal CA 1 region at 24 and 48 hours after seizures and there were significant difference compared with controls(P(0.001)). IL-1β expression were positively correlated with TUNEL positive cells(r=1.0,P(0.01)). Conclusion Endogeneous IL-1β and IL-1ra may take part in apoptotic process induced by seizures.
