The Magnetic Field Structure of NOAA 8100 on 4 November 1997 from the 3-D Boundary Element Solution of the Force-Free Field

Abstract:The active region NOAA 8100 was the first event in the new 23rd solar cycle that produced GOES X-ray X-class flares during its pass on the Sun in November, 1997. A 2B/X2 flare occurred on November 4, 1997 in this active region, with the peak X-ray flux at 05:59UT (beginning: 05:54UT; ending: 07:13UT). Photospheric magnetograms taken at Huairou (Ai 1987), Hα images taken at Hiraiso (Akioka et al. 1994; Akioka 1996), and soft X-ray images observed by SXT on board Yohkoh (Tsuneta et al. 1991) have been used in this study.
