Abstract:An optically amplified WDM transmission system with 8 channels, 151 km nonregenerated transmission fiber and 2 EDFAs is reported. Good BER performance and eye diagrams are obtained with the code patterns being 140 Mb/s CMI PRBS.

Abstract:We introduce an optical WDM communication system that uses 3 erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) with 12 channels and a total transmission length of 250 km. Eight of these 12 channels have a bit rate of 140 Mb/s each with a CMI code pattern, and the other 4 channels have a bit rate of 622 Mb/s each with an NRZ code pattern. This system works well with a low bit error rate. In China, this WDM system has the largest number of channels. The system setup and measured results are also shown

Abstract:The high density wavelength division multiplexing (HD-WDM) system presented here has 8 channels in 1.55 micrometers optical band with wavelength spacing of 100 GHz. Each channel operates at 622 Mb/s by using directly modulated DFB-LD. Accurate temperature control and current control methods have been taken to ensure the wavelength stability of 200 MHz in standard deviation. Three high-quality EDFA's are used in the 420 km optical fiber transmission to compensate the loss of fiber, star couplers and F-P optical filter. An F-P filter with 0.3 nm bandwidth and 1.2 dB insertion loss is used as a demultiplexer in front of the receiver to select every channel and reduce amplified spontaneous emission noise. An optical receiver with PIN-FET front-end has been used, which has sensitivity of -31 dBm BER equals 10-10. Good SNR characteristic is obtained for all channels after the transmission. In this paper we describe an 8 X 622 Mb/s HD-WDM experiment system and its 420 km optical fiber transmission. Some critical problems in long distance HD-WDM transmission also have been studied in this paper.

Abstract:A 151 km "WDM + EDFA" optical fiber transmission system with 8 channels and 2 EDFAs has been built for the first time in China. Some formulas are given to estimate the effect of optical signal power and ASE noise on BER, the power penalty caused by the Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) and the crosstalk due to the grating demultiplexer in optical amplified WDM systems with EDFAs. The calculation results are well agreed with experimental data. In addition, an 8-channel, optically amplified WDM system with regenerated transmission distance of 1208 km, an 8-channel, 240 km optically amplified WDM system and a 12-channel, 240 km optically amplified WDM system have been developed successively.

Abstract:Employing PolMux-RZ-8PSK modulation and coherent detection, we demonstrate 25 GHz-spaced, 161 114 Gb/s DWDM transmission through eight spans of ultra-low-loss fiber (average span length/loss of 82.75 km/14.6 dB) with a record capacity of 17 Tb/s (spectral efficiency 4.2 b/s/Hz) within the C-band EDFA bandwidth (4.025 THz).

Abstract:A 4 X 622 Mb/s 40 km WDM optical communication system with EDFA is described. Four DFB-LD modules with 1.55 micrometers wavelength range are used in the transmitters. An EDFA with 1480 nm pump LD is used as a boost power amplifier. It suppresses noises efficiently. A Fabry-Perot interferometer is used as a demultiplexer. Through 40 km transmission, the output waveform of the receiver is obviously improved. It makes the research on long haul and WDM/FDM optical communication systems great progress.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate an eight-channel WDM coherent system with 50GHz frequency spacing which can realize the transmission of 528-Gb/s/channel probabilistically-shaped 64QAM signal over 3000km fiber in a terrestrial system. Based on the GMI and NGMI results, about 100% transmission-distance improvement can be attained after probabilistic shaping.

Abstract:A 140 Mb/s, 2 channel noncoherent optical frequency-division-multiplexing transmission experiment utilizing an in-line Er-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) through a 50 km conventional single mode fiber is reported. Two optical signals with 10 GHz channel spacing are allocated wavelengths around 1551 nm, and are frequency-modulated by 223 - 1 pseudo random NRZ patterns at the bit rate of 140 Mb/s. Good eye diagrams are obtained after 50 km transmission, and no nonlinear effect of the EDFA is detected.

Abstract:The dispersion of 8 x 10Gb/s wavelength division multiplex (WDM) system has been compensated by the cascaded chirped fiber Bragg gratings (CFBGs), with ITU-T standard wavelengths and wavelength grid. The ASE of the EDFA could be reduced, the OSNR of the transmitted signal could be increased and the fluctuation of the EDFA gain could be controlled in the certain scope by the dispersion compensated CFBGs' WDM system. Impact of cascaded CFBGs' delay ripple on dispersion compensation has been analyzed. Experiment of error-free 8 x 10Gb/s 2015km transmission without forward error correction (FEC) and electronic repeaters were demonstrated. In the transmission, simplex CFBGs compensators were used and no other form of dispersion compensators were adopted. The experiment result showed that the consistency of the dispersion compensating in each channel is perfect over 2015km optical fiber transmission. The experiment result does agree with the theoretic analysis.

Abstract:We have transmitted a 7 x 224 Gb/s/ch Nyquist wavelength-division-multiplexed signal over a 1600-km conventional single-mode fiber (SMF-28) with 80 km per span and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier-only amplification. Each channel on the 50-GHz grid is modulated using polarization-division-multiplexed quadrature-phase-shift-keying at 56 Gbaud giving a record spectral efficiency of 4 b/s/Hz. Both the post filter and the Viterbi maximum likelihood sequence detection are introduced into digital signal processing, to suppress the undesired noise, linear crosstalk enhancement, and filtering effects. The bit error ratio of all channels after transmission over a 1600-km SMF-28 is smaller than the forward error correction limit of 3.8x10(-3).

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel synthesizing method for high-speed 8-ary quadratic-amplitude modulation (QAM) optical signal generation using commercial optical modulators with binary electrical driving signals. Using this method, we successfully generated 114-Gb/s pulse-duration modulation (PDM)-8QAM optical signals. Intradyne detection of PDM-8QAM optical signals with robust blind polarization demultiplexing has been demonstrated by using a new cascaded multimodulus equalization algorithm. With return-to-zero-shaped PDM-8QAM modulation and the proposed blind polarization demultiplexing algorithm, we demonstrate transmission of a record 32-Tb/s fiber capacity (320 × 114 Gb/s) over 580 km of ultralow-loss single-mode fiber-28 fiber by utilizing C+L-band erbium-doped fiber-amplifier-only optical amplification and single-ended coherent detection technique at an information spectral efficiency of 4.0 bit/s·Hz.

We show that the distortion caused by the direct square-law detection of the signal component with single-ended photo detection can be effectively mitigated by a novel DSP algorithm.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate 506-Gb/s/channel (66.125-Gbaud/channel) eight-channel WDM probabilistically-shaped 16QAM signal coherent transmission using high-bandwidth coherent driver modulator (HB-CDM) over 6000-km fiber with BER under 4.2×10–2. 150% transmission-distance improvement, and 0.216-bit/symbol achievable-information-rate improvement can be attained after probabilistic shaping.

Abstract:We demonstrate transmission of 78×256Gb/s PM-16QAM over 4800km, and 78×192Gb/s PDM-8QAM over 7200km with 100km span length at spectral-efficiency 6.0 and 4.5 b/Hz/s, respectively. This is achieved by ultra-large-A eff ultra-low-loss fibre using EDFA-only for amplification.
