Abstract:An increasing number of studies have shown that the promising compound resveratrol treats multiple diseases, such as cancer and aging; however, the resveratrol mode-of-action (MoA) remains largely unknown. Here, by virtue of multiple omics approaches, we adopted fission yeast as a model system with the goal of dissecting the common MoA of the anti-proliferative activity of resveratrol. We found that the anti-proliferative activity of resveratrol is mainly due to its unique role of inhibiting the separation of sister cells, similar phenotype with the C2H2 zinc finger transcription factor Ace2 knock-out strain. Microarray analysis shown that resveratrol has extensive impact on the fission yeast transcription levels. Among the changed gene's list, 40% of up-regulated genes are Core Environmental Stress Responses genes, and 57% of the down-regulated genes are periodically expressed. Moreover, resveratrol leverages the metabolome, which unbalances the intracellular pool sizes of several classes of amino acids, nucleosides, sugars and lipids, thus reflecting the remodulated metabolic networks. The complexity of the resveratrol MoA displayed in previous reports and our work demonstrates that multiple omics approaches must be applied together to obtain a complete picture of resveratrol's anti-proliferative function.
Gut Microbiota Composition in Relation to the Metabolism of Oral Administrated Resveratrol

Abstract:Resveratrol (RSV) has been confirmed to confer multiple health benefits, and the majority of RSV tends to be metabolized in the gut microbiota after oral administration. In this study, the metabolism of RSV was investigated by using mouse models with distinct gut microbiota compositions: germ-free mice colonized with probiotics, conventional mouse, and DSS-induced colitis mouse models. The results demonstrated that in feces, the metabolites of RSV, including resveratrol sulfate (RES-sulfate), resveratrol glucuronide (RES-glucuronide), and dihydroresveratrol, significantly increased after probiotics colonized in germ-free mice. Furthermore, RES-sulfate and RES-glucuronide were below the detectable limit in the feces of conventional mice, with dihydroresveratrol being the dominant metabolite. Compared to the conventional mice, the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroides and the abundance of Lactobacillus genera were found significantly elevated in colitis mice after long-term ingestion of RSV, which shifted the metabolism of RSV in return. Our study provided critical implications in further application of RSV in foods and food supplements.
Efficient de novo synthesis of resveratrol by metabolically engineered Escherichia coli

Abstract:Abstract Resveratrol has been the subject of numerous scientific investigations due to its health-promoting activities against a variety of diseases. However, developing feasible and efficient microbial processes remains challenging owing to the requirement of supplementing expensive phenylpropanoic precursors. Here, various metabolic engineering strategies were developed for efficient de novo biosynthesis of resveratrol. A recombinant malonate assimilation pathway from Rhizobium trifolii was introduced to increase the supply of the key precursor malonyl-CoA and simultaneously, the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats interference system was explored to down-regulate fatty acid biosynthesis pathway to inactivate the malonyl-CoA consumption pathway. Down-regulation of fabD, fabH, fabB, fabF, fabI increased resveratrol production by 80.2, 195.6, 170.3, 216.5 and 123.7%, respectively. Furthermore, the combined effect of these genetic perturbations was investigated, which increased the resveratrol titer to 188.1 mg/L. Moreover, the efficiency of this synthetic pathway was improved by optimizing the expression level of the rate-limiting enzyme TAL based on reducing mRNA structure of 5′ region. This further increased the final resveratrol titer to 304.5 mg/L. The study described here paves the way to the development of a simple and economical process for microbial production of resveratrol.

Abstract:Resveratrol is a plant secondary metabolite known for its therapeutic applications as an antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, cardio-protective, and neuroprotective agent. Topical formulas of resveratrol are also used for skin disease management and in cosmetic industries. Due to its importance, high resveratrol production is urgently required. Since the last decade, intensive efforts have been devoted to obtaining resveratrol from microorganisms by pathway and metabolic engineering. Yeasts were proven to be excellent host candidates for resveratrol production. In addition to the similar intracellular compartments between yeasts and plants, yeasts exhibit the ability to express genes coding for plant-derived enzymes and to perform post-translational modification. Therefore, this review summarizes the attempts to use yeasts as a platform for resveratrol synthesis as the next promising route in producing high titers of resveratrol from genetically engineered strains.

Remodelling metabolism for high-level resveratrol production in Yarrowia lipolytica

Abstract:Resveratrol is a polyphenol with numerous applications in food, pharma, and cosmetics. Lack of precursors and low titer are the main problems hindering industrial scale resveratrol production. Based on previous prescreening, expressing the combination of FjTAL , Pc4CL1 and VvSTS achieved the best resveratrol titer. This was further improved to 235.1 mg/L through engineering the shikimic acid pathway, applying a modular enzyme assembly of Pc4CL1 and VvSTS , enhancing p -coumaric acid supply and diverting glycolytic flux toward erythrose-4-phosphate. The titer was increased to 819.1 mg/L following two rounds of multicopy integration of resveratrol biosynthesis and malonyl-CoA supply, respectively. The titer reached 22.5 g/L with a yield on glucose of 65.5 mg/g using an optimum fed-batch strategy in a 5 L bioreactor with morphology control. This research is the highest report on the de novo production of resveratrol in Yarrowia lipolytica and the findings lay a solid foundation for other producing polyphenols.

Abstract:Resveratrol, a phenylpropanoid compound, exhibits diverse pharmacological properties, making it a valuable candidate for health and disease management. However, the demand for resveratrol exceeds the capacity of plant extraction methods, necessitating alternative production strategies. Microbial synthesis offers several advantages over plant-based approaches and presents a promising alternative. Yarrowia lipolytica stands out among microbial hosts due to its safe nature, abundant acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA availability, and robust pentose phosphate pathway. This study aimed to engineer Y. lipolytica for resveratrol production. The resveratrol biosynthetic pathway was integrated into Y. lipolytica by adding genes encoding tyrosine ammonia lyase from Rhodotorula glutinis, 4-coumarate CoA ligase from Nicotiana tabacum, and stilbene synthase from Vitis vinifera. This resulted in the production of 14.3 mg/L resveratrol. A combination of endogenous and exogenous malonyl-CoA biosynthetic modules was introduced to enhance malonyl-CoA availability. This included genes encoding acetyl-CoA carboxylase 2 from Arabidopsis thaliana, malonyl-CoA synthase, and a malonate transporter protein from Bradyrhizobium diazoefficiens. These strategies increased resveratrol production to 51.8 mg/L. The further optimization of fermentation conditions and the utilization of sucrose as an effective carbon source in YP media enhanced the resveratrol concentration to 141 mg/L in flask fermentation. By combining these strategies, we achieved a titer of 400 mg/L resveratrol in a controlled fed-batch bioreactor. These findings demonstrate the efficacy of Y. lipolytica as a platform for the de novo production of resveratrol and highlight the importance of metabolic engineering, enhancing malonyl-CoA availability, and media optimization for improved resveratrol production.

Abstract:Resveratrol, a natural polyphenol compound with multiple bioactivities, is widely used in food and pharmaceutical industry. Endophytic fungus Alternaria sp. MG1, as a native producer of resveratrol, shows increasing potential application. However, strategies for improvement of the biosynthesis of resveratrol in this species are still scarce. In this study, different elicitors were used to investigate their effect on the biosynthesis of resveratrol in MG1 and the induction mechanism. Ultrasound and sodium butyrate had no effect and slight inhibition on the resveratrol production and related gene expression, respectively. UV radiation and co-culture with Phomopsis sp. XP-8 significantly promoted the biosynthesis of resveratrol with the highest production (240.57μg/l) coming from UV 20min. Co-culture altered the profiles of secondary metabolites in MG1 by promoting and inhibiting the synthesis of stilbene and lignin compounds, respectively, and generating new flavonoids ((+/−)-taxifolin, naringin, and (+)-catechin). Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) also showed an obviously positive influence, leading to an increase in resveratrol production by 10 to 60%. Two calcium-dependent protein kinases (CDPK) were identified, of which CDPK1 was found to be an important regulatory factor of OPC induction. Synergistic treatment of UV 20min and 100μm OPC increased the production of resveratrol by 70.37% compared to control and finally reached 276.31μg/l.

Abstract:Resveratrol is a kind of non-llavonoids polyphenolic compound having many applications in medical field, such as promoting activities against a variety of diseases, including cancer and having even the potential to slow aging. Resveratrol is found in only trace amount in plants, and chemical synthesis of this important compound needs toxic catalyst and brings about many unnecessary by-products. In this work, we focused on the condition optimization for resveratrol biosynthesis with a recombinant E. coli which was based on the successful metabolic engineering of E. coli. After 10 h cultivation in YM9 medium, the recombinant cells were collected by centrifugation and resuspended in fresh YM9 medium supplemented with 1.2 g/L p-coumaric acid and poly ethyleneglycol. Under the optimized culture conditions, 24 h medium was extracted with ethyl acetate and by HPLC, the high resveratrol production of 598 mg/L was achieved. The present work will be beneficial for the large scale production of resveratrol in E. coli.

Abstract:Abstract Background Resveratrol is a plant secondary metabolite with diverse, potential health-promoting benefits. Due to its nutraceutical merit, bioproduction of resveratrol via microbial engineering has gained increasing attention and provides an alternative to unsustainable chemical synthesis and straight extraction from plants. However, many studies on microbial resveratrol production were implemented with the addition of water-insoluble phenylalanine or tyrosine-based precursors to the medium, limiting in the sustainable development of bioproduction. Results Here we present a novel coculture platform where two distinct metabolic background species were modularly engineered for the combined total and de novo biosynthesis of resveratrol. In this scenario, the upstream Escherichia coli module is capable of excreting p -coumaric acid into the surrounding culture media through constitutive overexpression of codon-optimized tyrosine ammonia lyase from Trichosporon cutaneum ( TAL ), feedback-inhibition-resistant 3-deoxy-d-arabinoheptulosonate-7-phosphate synthase ( aroG fbr ) and chorismate mutase/prephenate dehydrogenase ( tyrA fbr ) in a transcriptional regulator tyrR knockout strain. Next, to enhance the precursor malonyl-CoA supply, an inactivation-resistant version of acetyl-CoA carboxylase ( ACC1 S659A,S1157A ) was introduced into the downstream Saccharomyces cerevisiae module constitutively expressing codon-optimized 4-coumarate-CoA ligase from Arabidopsis thaliana ( 4CL ) and resveratrol synthase from Vitis vinifera ( STS ), and thus further improve the conversion of p -coumaric acid-to-resveratrol. Upon optimization of the initial inoculation ratio of two populations, fermentation temperature, and culture time, this co-culture system yielded 28.5 mg/L resveratrol from glucose in flasks. In further optimization by increasing initial net cells density at a test tube scale, a final resveratrol titer of 36 mg/L was achieved. Conclusions This is first study that demonstrates the use of a synthetic E. coli – S. cerevisiae consortium for de novo resveratrol biosynthesis, which highlights its potential for production of other p -coumaric-acid or resveratrol derived biochemicals.

De Novo Biosynthesis of Polydatin in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Abstract:Polydatin, with better structural stability and biological activities than resveratrol, is mainly extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Polygonum cuspidatum. In this study, based on the transcriptome analysis of P. cuspidatum, we identified the key glycosyltransferase of resveratrol and achieved the biosynthesis of polydatin from glucose by incorporation with the resveratrol biosynthesis module, UDP-glucose supply module, and glycosyltransferase expression module. Through metabolic engineering and fermentation optimization, the production of polydatin reached 545 mg/L, and the dry cell weight was 27.83 mg/g DCW, which was about twice that of extracted from the P. cuspidatum root (11.404 mg/g DCW). Therefore, it is possible to replace the production mode of polydatin from plant extraction to microbial chassis in the future.

Abstract:Usually, in aerobic metabolism, natural materials including nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids can experience auxiliary injury by oxidative responses. This damage produced by reactive oxygen/nitrogen species has been identified as "oxidative stress." As a natural polyphenol got from red wine and peanuts, resveratrol is one of the most eminent anti‐aging mixtures. Based on many studies', resveratrol hinders destructive effects of inflammatory causes and reactive oxygen radicals in several tissues. The nuclear erythroid 2‐related factor 2 is a factor related to transcription with anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant possessions which is complicated by enzyme biotransformation and biosynthesis of lipids and carbohydrates. This review provides current understanding and information about the character of resveratrol against oxidative stress and regulation of inflammation via Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Abstract:<p>Resveratrol modulates the transcription factor NF-κB, cytochrome P450 isoenzyme CYP1A1, expression and activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, Fas/Fas ligand mediated apoptosis, p53, mTOR and cyclins and various phospho-diesterases resulting in an increase in cytosolic cAMP levels. Cyclic AMP, in turn, activates Epac1/CaMKKβ/AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α pathway that facilitates increased oxidation of fatty acids, mitochondrial respiration and their biogenesis and gluconeogenesis. Resveratrol triggers apoptosis of activated T cells and suppresses tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-17 (IL-17) and other pro-inflammatory molecules and inhibits expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) that may explain its anti-inflammatory actions. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and their anti-inflammatory metabolites lipoxin A4, resolvins, protectins and maresins have a significant role in obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), metabolic syndrome and cancer. We observed that PUFAs (especially arachidonic acid, AA) and BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) protect against the cytotoxic actions of alloxan, streptozotocin, benzo(a)pyrene (BP) and doxorubicin. Thus, there is an overlap in the beneficial actions of resveratrol, PUFAs and BDNF suggesting that these molecules may interact and augment synthesis and action of each other. This is supported by the observation that resveratrol and PUFAs modulate gut microbiota and influence stem cell proliferation and differentiation. Since resveratrol is not easily absorbed from the gut it is likely that it may act on endocannabinoid and light, odor, and taste receptors located in the gut, which, in turn, convey their messages to the various organs via vagus nerve.</p>

Engineering the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica for high-level resveratrol production

Abstract:Resveratrol is a plant secondary metabolite with multiple health-beneficial properties. Microbial production of resveratrol in model microorganisms requires extensive engineering to reach commercially viable levels. Here, we explored the potential of the non-conventional yeast Yarrowia lipolytica to produce resveratrol and several other shikimate pathway-derived metabolites (p-coumaric acid, cis,cis-muconic acid, and salicylic acid). The Y. lipolytica strain expressing a heterologous pathway produced 52.1 ± 1.2 mg/L resveratrol in a small-scale cultivation. The titer increased to 409.0 ± 1.2 mg/L when the strain was further engineered with feedback-insensitive alleles of the key genes in the shikimate pathway and with five additional copies of the heterologous biosynthetic genes. In controlled fed-batch bioreactor, the strain produced 12.4 ± 0.3 g/L resveratrol, the highest reported titer to date for de novo resveratrol production, with a yield on glucose of 54.4 ± 1.6 mg/g and a productivity of 0.14 ± 0.01 g/L/h. The study showed that Y. lipolytica is an attractive host organism for the production of resveratrol and possibly other shikimate-pathway derived metabolites.
Profiling influences of gene overexpression on heterologous resveratrol production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Abstract:Metabolic engineering of heterologous resveratrol production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae faces challenges as the precursor l-tyrosine is stringently regulated by a complex biosynthetic system. We overexpressed the main gene targets in the upstream pathways to investigate their influences on the downstream resveratrol production. Single-gene overexpression and DNA assembly-directed multigene overexpression affect the production of resveratrol as well as its precursor p-coumaric acid. Finally, the collaboration of selected gene targets leads to an optimal resveratrol production of 66.14±3.74 mg·L–1, 2.27 times higher than the initial production in YPD medium (4% glucose). The newly discovered gene targets TRP1 expressing phosphoribosylanthranilate isomerase, ARO3 expressing 3-deoxy-d-arabino-heptulosonate-7-phosphate synthase, and 4CL expressing 4-coumaryl-CoA ligase show notable positive impacts on resveratrol production in S. cerevisiae.

Abstract:Resveratrol (RSV) is a plant-derived natural product with diverse biological activities. It has attracted considerable attention for its notable efficacy in nutritional health and disease treatment. The physiological impact of RSV in the human body is closely connected to the gut microbiota; however, the primary gut microorganisms responsible for RSV metabolism and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, based on the culturing of the gut microbiota from human feces, we isolated a bacterium capable of efficiently metabolizing RSV, namely J01. Through the induced enrichment transcriptomics and bioinformatic analyses, we further identified a resveratrol reductase (RER) from J01, which specifically catalyzes the hydrogenation of the C9–C10 double bond of RSV and initiates RSV’s in vivo metabolism. RER and its homologs represent a novel class of ene-reductases. The abundance of RER in the gut microbiota of healthy individuals was significantly higher than that in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, suggesting its crucial physiological function. Cell culture experiments and animal studies showed that dihydroresveratrol (DHR), a metabolite of RSV catalyzed by RER, exhibited stronger biological activity in inhibiting the growth of colon cancer cells and alleviating symptoms of enteritis in mouse models. Our results expand the understanding of gut microbial metabolism of RSV and its medicinal functions, providing possible guidance for optimizing RSV bioavailability in the human body.

Abstract:Resveratrol (RES) is considered to be an activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) with many reported health benefits. Polydatin (POD) is a natural precursor and glycosylated form of RES. The glycoside structure of POD alters the bioactivity. Overnutrition-stimulated reactive oxygen species (ROS) promote the AMPK suppression and metabolic dysregulation. The present work compared the effects of POD and RES in ameliorating energy homeostasis imbalance in mice fed a high-fructose diet and elucidated the underlying mechanisms of action. Our results showed that POD elevated the fecal levels of valeric acid and caproic acid via modification of gut microbiota, while RES did not significantly influence the levels of fecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Both POD and RES markedly decreased the oxidative stress and activated the AMPK signaling pathways in the liver. POD and RES exerted a similar effect in alleviating glucose dysmetabolism, but POD was more effective in ameliorating lipid dysmetabolism than RES. Furthermore, valeric acid and caproic acid alone can activate the AMPK and ameliorate hypercholesterolemia, and enhance the effects of POD on improving lipid metabolism in mice. Overall, for the first time, we demonstrated that POD administration elevated the fecal levels of valeric acid and caproic acid by modifying gut microbiota, thus promoting AMPK activation may be the underlying mechanism that POD is superior to RES in alleviating the lipid dysmetabolism. Our results suggest that POD may be an alternative for RES as an AMPK activator.
Synergistic effect of thioredoxin and its reductase from Kluyveromyces marxianus on enhanced tolerance to multiple lignocellulose-derived inhibitors

Abstract:Background: Multiple lignocellulose-derived inhibitors represent great challenges for bioethanol production from lignocellulosic materials. These inhibitors that are related to the levels of intracellular reactive oxidative species (ROS) make oxidoreductases a potential target for an enhanced tolerance in yeasts. Results: In this study, the thioredoxin and its reductase from Kluyveromyces marxianus Y179 was identified, which was subsequently achieved over-expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae 280. In spite of the negative effects by expression of thioredoxin gene (KmTRX), the thioredoxin reductase (KmTrxR) helped to enhance tolerance to multiple lignocellulose-derived inhibitors, such as formic acid and acetic acid. In particular, compared with each gene expression, the double over-expression of KmTRX2 and KmTrxR achieved a better ethanol fermentative profiles under a mixture of formic acid, acetic acid, and furfural (FAF) with a shorter lag period. At last, the mechanism that improves the tolerance depended on a normal level of intracellular ROS for cell survival under stress. Conclusions: The synergistic effect of KmTrxR and KmTRX2 provided the potential possibility for ethanol production from lignocellulosic materials, and give a general insight into the possible toxicity mechanisms for further theoretical research.

Abstract:Resveratrol (RES), a well-known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound, is abundant in red wine and exerts numerous pharmacological effects, including hepatoprotection and cadioprotection. Unfortunately, RES is restricted in clinical application due to poor dissolution property and adsorption. In addition, red wine as a supplement for preventing disease is not recommended for patients with alcohol-related disorders. To address these limitations, we successfully developed a novel RES nanoparticle system (RESN) and demonstrated that RESN could circumvent the physicochemical drawbacks of raw RES with respect to dissolution, such as the reduction of particle size, amorphous transformation, and hydrogen-bond formation. In addition, we employed an animal model of CCl₄-induced hepatotoxicity to estimate the potential of the nanoparticle formulation to improve the hepatoprotective effect of orally administered RES. Our results demonstrated that RESN can diminish liver function markers (aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase) by decreasing hepatocyte death due to CCl₄-induced hepatotoxicity in rats, when compared with RES administration. The effect was achieved by reducing oxidative stress (decreased reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation) and lowering inflammatory cytokines (decreased tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin 1β) and protein expression (cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, cytosolic phospholipase A2, and caspase-3). In conclusion, enhancement of the dissolution of RES through a nanoparticle engineering process can result in increased hepatoprotective effects mediated by antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Consequently, we suggest that RESN deserves further study, perhaps in prophylaxis of chronic liver diseases.

Abstract:This investigation delves into elucidating the mechanism by which resveratrol (Res), a natural polyterpenoid renowned for its antimicrobial properties, exerts its effects on Aeromonas hydrophila , a ubiquitous waterborne pathogen. Our findings underscore the dose-dependent manifestation of resveratrol in exhibiting antibacterial and antibiofilm formation activities against A. hydrophila . Employing a Data-independent acquisition (DIA) based quantitative proteomics methodology, we systematically compared differentially expressed proteins in A. hydrophila subjected to varying concentrations of Res. Subsequent bioinformatics analyses revealed key proteins and pathways pivotal in resveratrol's antimicrobial action, encompassing oxidative stress, energy metabolism, and cell membrane integrity. Validation of the proteomics outcomes was meticulously conducted using the qPCR method at the mRNA level. Dynamic trend analysis unveiled alterations in biological processes, notably the correlation between the cell division-related protein ZapC and resveratrol content. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy corroborated a significant elongation of A. hydrophila cells, affirming resveratrol's capability to inhibit cell division. In concert, resveratrol emerges as a participant in the cell membrane integrity pathway, biofilm formation, and potentially, the regulation of genes associated with cell division, resulting in morphological elongation. These revelations position resveratrol as a promising natural alternative to conventional antibiotics for treating A. hydrophila infections.

Abstract:Lignocellulosic biomass conversion inhibitors, furfural and HMF, inhibit microbial growth and interfere with subsequent fermentation of ethanol, posing significant challenges for a sustainable cellulosic ethanol conversion industry. Numerous yeast genes were found to be associated with the inhibitor tolerance. However, limited knowledge is available about mechanisms of the tolerance and the detoxification of the biomass conversion inhibitors. Using a robust standard for absolute mRNA quantification assay and a recently developed tolerant ethanologenic yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae NRRL Y-50049, we investigate pathway-based transcription profiles relevant to the yeast tolerance and the inhibitor detoxification. Under the synergistic inhibitory challenges by furfural and HMF, Y-50049 was able to withstand the inhibitor stress, in situ detoxify furfural and HMF, and produce ethanol, while its parental control Y-12632 failed to function till 65 h after incubation. The tolerant strain Y-50049 displayed enriched genetic background with significantly higher abundant of transcripts for at least 16 genes than a non-tolerant parental strain Y-12632. The enhanced expression of ZWF1 appeared to drive glucose metabolism in favor of pentose phosphate pathway over glycolysis at earlier steps of glucose metabolisms. Cofactor NAD(P)H generation steps were likely accelerated by enzymes encoded by ZWF1, GND1, GND2, TDH1, and ALD4. NAD(P)H-dependent aldehyde reductions including conversion of furfural and HMF, in return, provided sufficient NAD(P)+ for NAD(P)H regeneration in the yeast detoxification pathways. Enriched genetic background and a well maintained redox balance through reprogrammed expression responses of Y-50049 were accountable for the acquired tolerance and detoxification of furfural to furan methanol and HMF to furan dimethanol. We present significant gene interactions and regulatory networks involved in NAD(P)H regenerations and functional aldehyde reductions under the inhibitor stress.
