Abstract:The stationary entanglement and Bell violation of two qubits collectively interacting with a common thermal reservoir is investigated, and the analytical relations among average thermal photon number of the reservoir, entanglement and Bell violation of two qubits are given in detail. The initial fraction of Bell singlet state determines whether the common thermal reservoir can enhance the entanglement of two qubits or not in this case. Moreover, the stationary maximally entangled mixed state can emerge in the collective decay of two qubits in a thermal reservoir at zero-temperature only if the fraction of Bell singlet state in the initial state is not smaller than 2/3. Furthermore, it is shown that the collective decay can induce the entanglement of two qutrits initially in the maximally mixed state, and induce distillable entanglement from bound entangled states.

Abstract:Entanglement shared between two seperated parties could not be increased without transmitting quantum system. We suggest the project to gain entanglement shared between Alice and Bob by transmitting quantum system and a nem scheme to achieve efficient rate of entanglement. It is proven that under any local operations and communicating classically, to transmit one qubit through an ideal or a noisy quantum channel can increase no more than one ebit between two parties. Furthermore, the prior nonmaximally transmitted entanglement could not be improved by subsequently transmitted qubit. Although our proof is given in the measure of formation of entanglement, we believe that the above conclusion is also hold independently of the measure of entanglement.

Abstract:We describe an entanglement purification protocol to generate maximally entangled states with high efficiencies from two-mode squeezed states or from mixed Gaussian continuous entangled states. The protocol relies on a local quantum non-demolition measurement of the total excitation number of several continuous variable entangled pairs. We propose an optical scheme to do this kind of measurement using cavity enhanced cross--Kerr interactions.

Abstract:We theoretically investigate the generation of a novel non-Gaussian entangled state by using two single-photon catalytic quantum scissors (CQS) on an input two-mode squeezed vacuum state, and derive the effective operator of the CQS which is closely associated with the transmittance of beam splitters. The output state of this setup composes of the zero-, single- and two-photon entangled states. The results show that both larger success probability of achieving such event and higher fidelity between the input and output states can be attained by taking appropriate parameters of the transmittance and the initial squeezing parameters. Moreover, the entanglement properties of the generated non-Gaussian entangled state are discussed in terms of the degree of entanglement, the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) correlation and the two-mode squeezing effect. Our simulation results indicate that, in the small initial squeezing levels, there are always two improved areas of entanglement at the low and high transmittance ranges, respectively. Comparing to the improved areas of the entanglement, we find that both EPR correlation and two-mode squeezing effect rather than the entanglement degree are more rigorous in the measurement of the improved entanglement. These results show that the CQS operation is able to efficiently enhance the entanglement, which may be useful for the continuous-variable quantum communication.

Abstract:We propose a method to generate large cluster states without usingconditional (e.g., CNOT, C-phase) gates. Indeed, an arbitrarily large clusterstate can be generated and expanded almost deterministically by single-qubitrotations and a special non-deterministic collective detection. If the rotationof each step is sufficiently small, the quantum Zeno effect will guarantee thatthe state is projected into the intended subspace after each measurement, andan almost-perfect cluster state can be produced. We also propose a possibleimplementation of this approach using superconducting flux qubits.

Abstract:We experimentally realize a kind of entanglement transformations of bipartite pure states with 100% efficiency. The protocol employs two-outcome positive operator-valued measures (POVMs) and can transform two-photon maximally entangled state to any two-photon entangled pure state with 100% efficiency. The average fidelity of all output states is 96%. Moreover, the scheme to implement arbitrary POVM on single-photon polarization state is also discussed. In principle, our setup can be applied to any kind of entanglement transformations of two-qubit entangled states to achieve optimal successful probability.

Abstract:Entanglement is an indispensable quantum resource for quantum information technology. In continuous-variable quantum optics, photon subtraction can increase the entanglement between Gaussian states of light, but for mixed states the extent of this entanglement increase is poorly understood. In this work, we use an entanglement measure based the Rényi-2 entropy to prove that single-photon subtraction increases bipartite entanglement by no more than log 2. This value coincides with the maximal amount of bipartite entanglement that can be achieved with one photon. The upper bound is valid for all Gaussian input states, regardless of the number of modes and the purity.

Abstract:We use hyper-entanglement to experimentally realize deterministic entanglement swapping based on quantum Elegant Joint Measurements. These are joint projections of two qubits onto highly symmetric, iso-entangled, bases. We report measurement fidelities no smaller than 97.4%. We showcase the applications of these measurements by using the entanglement swapping procedure to demonstrate quantum correlations in the form of proof-of-principle violations of both bilocal Bell inequalities and more stringent correlation criteria corresponding to full network nonlocality. Our results are a foray into entangled measurements and nonlocality beyond the paradigmatic Bell state measurement and they show the relevance of more general measurements in entanglement swapping scenarios.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to implement single-qubit operations for singlet-triplet qubits located in an isolated double-well potential with fixed inter-site tunneling when superexchange interactions predominate. Arbitrary singlequbit gates can be realized by a sequence composed of two elementary operations which can be switched between different parameter regimes by adjusting slightly the relative energy bias of trapped atoms in each sub-well site. The experimental feasibility of the strategy and the fidelity of basic rotation operations are also analyzed.

Abstract:We investigate entanglement in two-qubit systems using a geometric representation based on the minimum of essential parameters. The states are X-shaped and host pairs of identical populations while reducing the number of coherences involved. A geometric L-measure of entanglement is introduced as the distance between the points that represent entangled states and the closest point that defines separable states. Our results give a geometric meaning to the Hill-Wootters concurrence C since L coincides with C. Furthermore, unlike C, the measure L distinguishes the rank of states with maximum entanglement. We construct a time-dependent two-qubit state, traced out over the complementary components of a pure tetra-partite system, and find that its one-qubit states share the same entropy. The entanglement measure results bounded from above by the envelope of the minima of such entropy.

Abstract: Shared entanglement boosts classical correlations between systems that interact over a limited quantum channel. To create such correlations, a natural avenue is to use entanglement of the same dimension as the channel, as this leads to unitary encodings similar to the celebrated dense coding protocol. In contrast, we demonstrate that by using an entanglement dimension larger than that of the channel and encoding classical information via irreversible quantum operations, one can outperform every such quantum protocol. We showcase this in a task that hybridizes state discrimination and random access coding, implemented by encoding the systems in distinct and independently controlled paths of a single photon. The experiment combines several high-quality building blocks for path-mode single-photon quantum operations: four-dimensional entanglement, quantum compression operations and high-dimensional entangled projections, achieving a total protocol fidelity of over $97.0\%$. It constitutes a proof-of-concept for harvesting higher-dimensional entanglement to improve low-dimensional quantum communication without relying on detailed modeling of the involved quantum devices.

Abstract:Bipartite operations underpin both classical communication and entanglement generation. Using a superposition of classical messages, we show that the capacity of a two-qubit operation for error-free entanglement-assisted bidirectional classical communication cannot exceed twice the entanglement capability. In addition, we show that any bipartite two-qubit operation can increase the communication that may be performed using an ensemble by twice the entanglement capability.

Abstract:Alice and Bob are given an unknown initial state chosen from a set of pure quantum states. Their task is to transform the initial state to a corresponding final pure state using local operations only. We prove necessary and sufficient conditions on the existence of such a transformation. We also provide efficient algorithms that can quickly rule out the possibility of transforming a set of initial states to a set of final states.

Abstract:We report on experimental studies on entanglement quantification and verification based on uncertainty relations for systems consisting of two qubits. The new proposed measure is shown to be invariant under local unitary transformations, by which entanglement quantification is implemented for two-qubit pure states. The nonlocal uncertainty relations for two-qubit pure states are also used for entanglement verification which serves as a basic proposition and promise to be a good choice for verification of multipartite entanglement. Abstract:We investigate entanglement change of mixed states in a class by applying canonical unitary form of two-qubit unitary operations. The class, including Werner states, Bell diagonal states and maximum entangled mixed states, is characterized by three real parameters and geometrically presented by a tetrahedron. Abstract:Suppose two distant observers Alice and Bob share a pure bipartite quantum state. By applying local operations and communicating with each other using a classical channel, Alice and Bob can manipulate it into some other states. Previous investigations of entanglement manipulations have been largely limited to a small number of strategies and their average outcomes. Here we consider a general entanglement manipulation strategy and go beyond the average property. For a pure entangled state shared between two separated persons Alice and Bob, we show that the mathematical interchange symmetry of the Schmidt decomposition can be promoted into a physical symmetry between the actions of Alice and Bob. Consequently, the most general (multi-step two-way-communications) strategy of entanglement manipulation of a pure state is, in fact, equivalent to a strategy involving only a single (generalized) measurement by Alice followed by one-way communications of its result to Bob. We also prove that strategies with one-way communications are generally more powerful than those without communications. In summary, one-way communications is necessary and sufficient for the entanglement manipulations of a pure bipartite state. The supremum probability of obtaining a maximally entangled state (of any dimension) from an arbitrary state is determined and a strategy for achieving this probability is constructed explicitly. One important question is whether collective manipulations in quantum mechanics can greatly enhance the probability of large deviations from the average behavior. We answer this question in the negative for a specific problem.

Abstract:Entanglement is a fundamental feature of quantum mechanics and holds great promise for enhancing metrology and communications. Much of the focus of quantum metrology so far has been on generating highly entangled quantum states that offer better sensitivity, per resource, than what can be achieved classically. However, to reach the ultimate limits in multi-parameter quantum metrology and quantum information processing tasks, collective measurements, which generate entanglement between multiple copies of the quantum state, are necessary. Here, we experimentally demonstrate theoretically optimal single- and two-copy collective measurements for simultaneously estimating two non-commuting qubit rotations. This allows us to implement quantum-enhanced sensing, for which the metrological gain persists for high levels of decoherence, and to draw fundamental insights about the interpretation of the uncertainty principle. We implement our optimal measurements on superconducting, trapped-ion and photonic systems, providing an indication of how future quantum-enhanced sensing networks may look.

Abstract:Based on classical communication and some local quantum operations, a novel tripartite operation sharing scheme is put forwarded by employing a six-qubit absolutely maximally entangled state as quantum channel. The finally successful probability of this scheme is deterministic and the target quantum operation to be shared is arbitrary. Besides, the optimized entanglement structure ensures that the numbers of necessary quantum operations to accomplish the task is relatively less. Furthermore, analysis shows that the present scheme is feasible with the current experimental technology.

Abstract:Quantum entanglement stands at the forefront of quantum information science, heralding new paradigms in quantum communication, computation, and cryptography. This paper introduces a quantum optimal control approach by focusing on entanglement measures rather than targeting predefined maximally entangled states. Leveraging the indirect Pontryagin Minimum Principle, we formulate an optimal control problem centered on maximizing an enhanced lower bound of the entanglement measure within a shortest timeframe in the presence of input constraints. We derive optimality conditions based on Pontryagin's Minimum Principle tailored for a matrix-valued dynamic control system and tackle the resulting boundary value problem through a Physics-Informed Neural Network, which is adept at handling differential matrix equations. The proposed strategy not only refines the process of generating entangled states but also introduces a method with increased sensitivity in detecting entangled states, thereby overcoming the limitations of conventional concurrence estimation.
