Abstract:Urbanization is an important symbol of regional economic and social development. Exploration of urbanization and level of coordinated development of rural areas is conducive to overall planning of urban and rural develop-ment. It constructs comprehensive evaluation index system of urbanization and rural development,entropy weight method and the coordination degree model are adopted. By using the three-year cross-sectional data of 2006, 2010 and 2016, it studies urbanization and level of coordinated development of rural areas in Chongqing. The results show that the level of urbanization in Chongqing is relatively low and the gap between counties is relatively large. The high-lev-el areas are concentrated in main urban areas and new urban development areas, while low-level areas are concentrated in northeastern and southeastern Chongqing. Urbanization has the positive correlation with rural development, that is, the higher level of urbanization, the higher level of rural develop-ment. Urbanization plays a leading role to rural development. The coordination between urbanization and rural development in Chongqing is characterized by low coordination at high level and high coordination at low level. Urbaniza-tion and rural development of the main cities and new urban areas are rela-tively high, but coordination is relatively low. Urbanization level and rural development in southeastern and northern Chongqing are relatively low, but co-ordination is relatively high.
