Abstract:Agglomeration problem has always been one of key problems and hot issues in regional economy research area, and the positioning agglomeration is the most important issue to be solved when agglomeration phenomenon is analyzed. Given that the agglomeration has a high degree of sensitivity, when using spatial autocorrelation means to detect the agglomeration, the selection for the scale is vulnerable to be influenced by the subjective judgments of the researchers, so there is a possible selection bias problem. In contrast, the scanning statistics method put forward by Kulldorff and other scholars has showed its unique advantages. The research explored the agglomeration issue of the employed population in industry field among areas in Zhejiang province from 2000 to 2009. Through theoretical and empirical analyses, differences concerned with the agglomeration issue between spatial autocorrelation and spatial-temporal scanning statistics were compared from the following three aspects: scale selection, scale transformation and spatial-temporal integration. And the research further confirmed that spatial-temporal scanning statistics has significant advantages. It is not only an effective solution to the bias problem of artificial selection, realizes the scaling and transformation, but also more effectively integrates the spatial-temporal analysis advantages such as three-dimensional, dynamic and multiple-scale characteristics.
