Abstract: We study certain modules over the algebra of a Cartier divisor on a scheme. Using these modules, we present an inductive method for studying finite generation properties of algebras and modules. In the context of the minimal model program, we show that finite generation of log canonical algebras and modules is equivalent to the minimal model and abundance conjectures.

Abstract: We develop a moduli theory of algebraic varieties and pairs of non-negative Kodaira dimension. We define stable minimal models and construct their projective coarse moduli spaces under certain natural conditions. This can be applied to a wide range of moduli problems in algebraic geometry.

Abstract:We show that the augmented base locus coincides with the exceptional locus (i.e. null locus) for any nef $\mathbb{R}$-Cartier divisor on any scheme projective over a field (of any characteristic). Next we prove a semi-ampleness criterion in terms of the augmented base locus generalizing a result of Keel. We also study nef divisors with positive top intersection number, and discuss some problems related to augmented base loci of log divisors.

Abstract:Algebras defined over fields of characteristic zero and positive characteristic usually do not behave the same way. However, for certain algebras, for example the group algebras, they behave the same way as the characteristic zero case at good enough prime. In this paper, we initiate the study of this topic by imposing increasingly strong hypotheses on basic algebras. When the algebras satisfy the right hypotheses, we have equalities of the dimensions of their cohomology groups between simple modules and equalities of graded Cartan numbers. The examples include the Solomon descent algebras of finite Coxeter groups at large enough primes, nil-Coxeter algebra, and certain finite semigroup algebras at an arbitrary prime.

Abstract:Let $D \subseteq A$ be a quasi-Cartan pair of algebras. Then there exists a unique discrete groupoid twist $\Sigma \to G$ whose twisted Steinberg algebra is isomorphic to $A$ in a way that preserves $D$. In this paper, we show there is a lattice isomorphism between wide open subgroupoids of $G$ and subalgebras $C$ such that $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ and $D \subseteq C$ is a quasi-Cartan pair. We also characterise which algebraic diagonal/algebraic Cartan/quasi-Cartan pairs have the property that every subalgebra $C$ with $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ has $D \subseteq C$ a diagonal/Cartan/quasi-Cartan pair. In the diagonal case, when the coefficient ring is a field, it is all of them. Beyond that, only pairs that are close to being diagonal have this property. We then apply our techniques to C*-algebraic inclusions and give a complete characterization of which Cartan pairs $D \subseteq A$ have the property that every C*-subalgebra $C$ with $D\subseteq C\subseteq A$ has $D \subseteq C$ a Cartan pair.

Abstract:We prove that an abelian category equipped with an ample sequence of objects is equivalent to the quotient of the category of coherent modules over the corresponding algebra by the subcategory of finite-dimensional modules. In the Noetherian case a similar result was proved by Artin and Zhang.

Abstract:We study module like objects over categorical quotients of algebras by the action of coalgebras with several objects. These take the form of ``entwined comodules'' and ``entwined contramodules'' over a triple $(\mathscr C,A,\psi)$, where $A$ is an algebra, $\mathscr C$ is a coalgebra with several objects and $\psi$ is a collection of maps that ``entwines'' $\mathscr C$ with $A$. Our objective is to prove Frobenius, separability and Maschke type theorems for functors between categories of entwined comodules and entwined contramodules.

Abstract:We give the definition of a dg-division algebra, that is a concept of a differential graded algebra which may serve as an analogue of a division algebra. We classify them completely, and show that they are either acyclic or have differential $0$. Further, we prove that the graded centre of dg-simple dg-algebras is a dg-division algebra, and also the dg-endomorphism ring of a dg-simple module is a dg-division algebra. We also shall give a Jacobson-Chevalley density theorem for acyclic dg-algebras.

Maximal almost rigid modules over gentle algebras

Abstract:We study maximal almost rigid modules over a gentle algebra $A$. We prove that the number of indecomposable direct summands of every maximal almost rigid $A$-module is equal to the sum of the number of vertices and the number of arrows of the Gabriel quiver of $A$. Moreover, the algebra $A$, considered as an $A$-module, can be completed to a maximal almost rigid module in a unique way. Gentle algebras are precisely the tiling algebras of surfaces with marked points. We show that the (permissible) triangulations of the surface of $A$ are in bijection with the maximal almost rigid $A$-modules. Furthermore, we study the endomorphism algebra $C=\text{End}_A T$ of a maximal almost rigid module $T$. We construct a fully faithful functor $G\colon \text{mod}\,A\to \text{mod}\, \overline{A}$ into the module category of a bigger gentle algebra $\overline{A}$ and show that $G$ maps maximal almost rigid $A$-modules to tilting $\overline{A}$-modules. In particular, $C$ and $\overline{A}$ are derived equivalent and $C$ is gentle. After giving a geometric realization of the functor $G$, we obtain a tiling $G(\mathbf{T})$ of the surface of $\overline{A}$ as the image of the triangulation $\mathbf{T}$ corresponding to $T$. We then show that the tiling algebra of $G(\mathbf{T})$ is $C$. Moreover, the tiling algebra of $\mathbf{T}$ is obtained algebraically from $C$ as the tensor algebra with respect to the $C$-bimodule $\text{Ext}_C^2(DC,C)$, which also is fundamental in cluster-tilting theory.

Abstract:We define a congruence module $\Psi_A(M)$ associated to a surjective $\mathcal O$-algebra morphism $\lambda\colon A \to \mathcal{O}$, with $\mathcal{O}$ a discrete valuation ring, $A$ a complete noetherian local $\mathcal{O}$-algebra regular at $\mathfrak{p}$, the kernel of $\lambda$, and $M$ a finitely generated $A$-module. We establish a numerical criterion for $M$ to have a free direct summand over $A$ of positive rank. It is in terms of the lengths of $\Psi_A(M)$ and the torsion part of $\mathfrak{p}/\mathfrak{p}^2$. It generalizes results of Wiles, Lenstra, and Diamond, that deal with the case when the codimension of $\mathfrak{p}$ is zero. Number theoretic applications include integral (non-minimal) $R=\mathbb T$ theorems in situations of positive defect conditional on certain standard conjectures. Here $R$ is a deformation ring parametrizing certain Galois representations and $\mathbb T$ is a Hecke algebra. An example is a modularity lifting for 2-dimensional $\ell$-adic Galois representations over an imaginary quadratic field. The proofs combine our commutative algebra results with a generalization due to Calegari and Geraghty of the patching method of Wiles and Taylor--Wiles and level raising arguments that go back to Ribet. The results provide new evidence in favor of the intriguing, and as yet fledgling, torsion analog of the classical Langlands correspondence. We also prove unconditional integral $R=\mathbb T$ results for Hecke algebras $\mathbb T$ acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves over $\mathbb Q$. This leads to a torsion Jacquet--Langlands correspondence comparing integral Hecke algebras acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves and modular curves. In this case the cohomology has abundant torsion and so our correspondence cannot be deduced by means of the classical Jacquet--Langlands correspondence.

The relative minimal model program for excellent algebraic spaces and analytic spaces in equal characteristic zero

Abstract:We establish the relative minimal model program with scaling for projective morphisms of quasi-excellent algebraic spaces admitting dualizing complexes, quasi-excellent formal schemes admitting dualizing complexes, semianalytic germs of complex analytic spaces, rigid analytic spaces, Berkovich spaces, and adic spaces locally of weakly finite type over a field, all in equal characteristic zero. To do so, we prove finite generation of relative adjoint rings associated to projective morphisms of such spaces using the strategy of Cascini and Lazić and the generalization of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem to the scheme setting recently established by the second author. To prove these results uniformly, we prove GAGA theorems for Grothendieck duality and dualizing complexes to reduce to the algebraic case. In addition, we apply our methods to establish the relative minimal model program with scaling for spaces of the form above in dimensions $\le 3$ in positive and mixed characteristic, and to show that one can run the relative minimal model program with scaling for complex analytic spaces without shrinking the base at each step.

Abstract:We develop the theory of module categories over a Grothendieck-Verdier category, i.e. a monoidal category with a dualizing object and hence a duality structure more general than rigidity. Such a category C comes with two monoidal structures which are related by non-invertible morphisms and which we treat on an equal footing. Quite generally, non-invertible structure morphisms play a dominant role in this theory. In any Grothendieck-Verdier module category M we find two important subcategories M' and M''. The internal End of an object in M' that is a C-generator is an algebra such that its category of modules is equivalent to M as a module category. We also introduce a partially defined relative Serre functor S which furnishes an equivalence between M' and M''. Any isomorphism between an object m of M' and S(m) in M'' endows the internal End of m with the structure of a Grothendieck-Verdier Frobenius algebra.

On the Category of Harish-Chandra Block Modules

Abstract:If $\Gamma$ is a subalgebra of $A$, then an $A$-module is called a Harish-Chandra module if it is the direct sum of its generalized weight spaces with respect to $\Gamma$. In 1994, Drozd, Futorny, and Ovsienko defined a generalization of a central subalgebra called a Harish-Chandra subalgebra and showed that when $\Gamma$ is a Harish-Chandra subalgebra of $A$ the structure of Harish-Chandra $A$-modules can be described using information about the relationship between $A$ and the cofinite maximal ideals of $\Gamma$. We extend these results by dropping the assumption that $\Gamma$ is quasicommutative. We facilitate this by introducing an equivalence relation $\sim$ on the set $\mathrm{cfs}(\Gamma)$ of cofinite maximal ideals of $\Gamma$. We define Harish-Chandra block modules with respect to $\sim$ to be $A$-modules that are the direct sum of so called block spaces corresponding to the equivalence classes $\mathrm{cfs}(\Gamma)/{\sim}$. If $\Gamma$ is a Harish-Chandra block subalgebra of $A$ with respect to $\sim$, then the structure of Harish-Chandra block modules can be described based on the relationship between $A$ and $\mathrm{cfs}(\Gamma)/{\sim}$. In particular, we give a decomposition of the category of Harish-Chandra block modules and the collection of isomorphism classes of irreducible Harish-Chandra block modules. Furthermore, we define a category $\mathcal{A}$ on $\mathrm{cfs}(\Gamma)/{\sim}$, and show the category of profinite $\mathcal{A}$-modules is equivalent to the category of Harish-Chandra block modules. Taking $\Gamma$ to be noetherian and quasicommutative, and $\sim$ to be the equality relation, we recover (in fact, a slight refinement of) results from Drozd, Futorny, and Ovsienko. Lastly, we provide a sufficient condition for when there are a finite number of isoclasses of simple Harish-Chandra block modules with a given support.

Abstract:We study infinite dimensional tilting modules over a concealed canonical algebra of domestic or tubular type. In the domestic case, such tilting modules are constructed by using the technique of universal localization, and they can be interpreted in terms of Gabriel localizations of the corresponding category of quasi-coherent sheaves over a noncommutative curve of genus zero. In the tubular case, we have to distinguish between tilting modules of rational and irrational slope. For rational slope the situation is analogous to the domestic case. In contrast, for any irrational slope, there is just one tilting module of that slope up to equivalence. We also provide a dual description of infinite dimensional cotilting modules and a classification result for the indecomposable pure-injective modules.

Equivariant $\underline{\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$-modules for the cyclic group $C_2$

Abstract:For the cyclic group $C_2$ we give a complete description of the derived category of perfect complexes of modules over the constant Mackey ring $\underline{\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$, for $\ell$ a prime. This is fairly simple for $\ell$ odd, but for $\ell=2$ depends on a new splitting theorem. As corollaries of the splitting theorem we compute the associated Picard group and the Balmer spectrum for compact objects in the derived category, and we obtain a complete classification of finite modules over the $C_2$-equivariant Eilenberg--MacLane spectrum $H\underline{\mathbb{Z}/2}$. We also use the splitting theorem to give new and illuminating proofs of some facts about $RO(C_2)$-graded Bredon cohomology, namely Kronholm's freeness theorem and the structure theorem of C. May.

Abstract:By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $\Lambda$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $\Lambda$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $\Lambda$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Abstract:We extend Berthelot's theory of arithmetic D-modules to a class of morphisms that are not necessarily of finite type. As an application we give a new construction of the category of convergent isocrystals on a separated scheme of finite type over a field, and show that the pullback by Frobenius is an auto-equivalence. This extends results of Berthelot that were proven in the smooth case.
