Abstract:In this paper,we consider the Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation on a finite domain with initial value and nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. This particular problem arises in the theory of ferroelectricity. We first get the local well-posedness of the problem, and then under the help of the local result, we use nonlinear interpolation to have the global well-posedness of the problem.

Abstract:This paper represents a new perspective in understanding the controllability of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation on unbounded domains. By studying the equation on both the right and left half-line with a single control input, we show that a class of solutions exists for which the KdV equation is exactly controllable. This is achieved by introducing a new concept known as \textit{operational controllability}, which provides key insights for establishing exact controllability results for the KdV equation. This approach allows explicitly characterizing both the control input and the controllable solutions. Furthermore, this concept holds significant potential for application to a wide range of nonlinear dispersive equations on the half-line and in bounded intervals.

Abstract:A boundary control problem for the following generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers-Huxley equation: $$u_t=\nu u_{xx}-\mu u_{xxx}-\alpha u^{\delta}u_x+\beta u(1-u^{\delta})(u^{\delta}-\gamma), \ x\in[0,1], \ t>0,$$ where $\nu,\mu,\alpha,\beta>0,$ $\delta\in[1,\infty)$, $\gamma\in(0,1)$ subject to Neumann boundary conditions is considered in this work. We first establish the well-posedness of the Neumann boundary value problem by an application of monotonicity arguments, the Hartman-Stampacchia theorem, the Minty-Browder theorem, and the Crandall-Liggett theorem. The additional difficulties caused by the third order linear term is successfully handled by proving a proper version of the Minty-Browder theorem. By using suitable feedback boundary controls, we demonstrate $\mathrm{L}^2$- and $\mathrm{H}^1$-stability properties of the closed-loop system for sufficiently large $\nu>0$. The analytical conclusions from this work are supported and validated by numerical investigations.

Abstract:For Burgers-Korteweg-de Vries(KdVB) equation defined on a finite spatial interval with unknown viscosity, a nonlinear boundary control law and an adaptation law are proposed. Based on Lyapunov direct method, the global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is proved. The stochastic case of Burgers-Korteweg-de Vries equation is also considered. The exponential stability of the delayed KdVB equation is also proved if the delay parameter is sufficiently small.

Abstract:This article gives a necessary first step to understanding the critical set phenomenon for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation posed on interval $[0,L]$ considering the Neumann boundary conditions with only one control input. We showed that the KdV equation is controllable in the critical case, i.e., when the spatial domain $L$ belongs to the set $\mathcal{R}_c$, where $c\neq-1$ and $$ \mathcal{R}_c:=\left\{\frac{2\pi}{\sqrt{3(c+1)}}\sqrt{m^2+ml+m^2};\ m,l\in \mathbb{N}^*\right\}\cup\left\{\frac{m\pi}{\sqrt{c+1}};\ m\in \mathbb{N}^*\right\}, $$ the KdV equation is exactly controllable in $L^2(0,L)$. The result is achieved using the return method together with a fixed point argument.

Abstract:The boundary control problem is considered for stochastic Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equations. First, a boundary controller is proposed, and a criterion is obtained for mean square exponential stability by using the Lyapunov functional method and inequality techniques. Then, when there exist uncertainties in the system parameters, the robust mean square exponential stability is considered, and a sufficient criterion is obtained. Furthermore, if there are also additive noises in the considered system, the H-infinity performance is investigated and a sufficient condition is obtained to ensure the mean square H-infinity performance. Numerical examples illustrate the validity of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This article is intended to present a qualitative and numerical analysis of well-posedness and boundary stabilization problems of the well-known Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation. Assuming that the boundary control is of memory type, the history approach is adopted in order to deal with the memory term. Under sufficient conditions on the physical parameters of the system and the memory kernel of the control, the system is shown to be well-posed by combining the semigroups approach of linear operators and the fixed point theory. Then, energy decay estimates are provided by applying the multiplier method. An application to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation will be also given. Moreover, we present a numerical analysis based on a finite differences method and provide numerical examples illustrating our theoretical results.

Finite-time Boundary Stabilization for Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers Equations.

Abstract:The finite-time boundary stabilization is investigated for Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equations. Firstly, a distributed controller is derived, and criteria are presented to guarantee the finite-time stability (FTS) of KdVB equations via the distributed controller. Then, considering the installation in real applications, a vogue control strategy, a boundary controller design, is adopted to ensure the FTS. In light of the FTS lemma, sufficient conditions are obtained for KdVB equations to ensure the FTS. When there exist uncertainties in the system's coefficients, the robust finite-time stabilization is studied for uncertain KdVB equations. With the designed boundary controller, a sufficient condition is provided to ensure the FTS for the uncertain KdVB equation. Finally, the theoretical results are verified by numerical examples. Abstract:This article mainly deals with observer-based H∞ control problem for a stochastic Korteweg–de Vries–Burgers equation under point or averaged measurements. Due to the nonlinearity of the stochastic partial differential equations, special emphases are given to computation complexity. By constructing an appropriate Lyapunov functional, we derive sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities to guarantee the internal exponential stability and H∞ performance of the perturbed closed-loop system by means of the Lyapunov approach. Consistent simulation results that support the proposed theoretical statements are provided. Finally, we have made important instructions for future research directions.

Abstract:This article considers the passivity-based boundary control for Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equations. Both the input strict passivity (ISP) and the output strict passivity (OSP) are studied. By the Lyapunov functional method and Wirtinger's inequality, sufficient criteria are derived to establish ISP and OSP for KdVB equations with boundary disturbances. Moreover, when parameter uncertainties arise in KdVB equations, the robust ISP and OSP are also investigated and sufficient criteria are proposed to achieve the robust ISP and OSP. Simulation examples are also given to verify the effectiveness of theoretical results.

Abstract:Let alpha : [0, infinity) > (0, infinity) be a twice continuous differentiable function which satisfies that alpha(0) = 1, alpha' is monotone and 0 < c(1) <= alpha'(t) (t) <= c(2) < 1 for some constants c(1), c(2). The exact controllability of a one-dimensional wave equation in a non-cylindrical domain is proved. This equation characterizes small vibrations of a string with one of its endpoint fixed and the other moving with speed alpha'(t). By using the Hilbert Uniqueness Method, we obtain the exact controllability results of this equation with Dirichlet boundary control on one endpoint. We also give an estimate on the controllability time that depends only on c(1) and c(2).

Abstract:In this paper we note the equivalence between exact controllability and exponential stabilizability for an abstract conservative system with bounded control. This enables us to establish a frequency domain characterization for the exact controllability/uniform exponential decay property of second-order elastic systems, such as the wave equation and the Petrovsky equation, with (locally) distributed control/damping. A piecewise multiplier method for frequency domain is introduced. For several classes of PDEs on regions which are not necessarily smooth, we obtain a sufficient condition for the subregion on which the application of control/damping will yield the exact controllability/uniform exponential decay property. This result provides useful information for designing the location of controllers/dampers for distributed systems with a law of conservation.

Abstract:The two‐way propagation of a certain class of long‐crested water waves is governed approximately by systems of equations of the Boussinesq type. These equations have been put forward in various forms by many authors and their higher‐order generalizations arise when modeling the propagation of waves on large lakes, ocean, and in other contexts. Considered here is a class of such system which couple two higher‐order Korteweg–de‐Vries type equations. Our aim is to investigate the controllability properties of the linearized model posed on a periodic interval. By using the classical duality approach and some theorems on nonharmonic Fourier series, we prove that the system is exactly controllable in certain well‐chosen Sobolev spaces by means of suitable boundary controls.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following linear Korteweg-de Vries-Benjamin Bona Mahony (KdV-BBM) equation on a finite interval. ⎧ ⎨ ⎩ ut -a2uxxt + ux + uxxx = 0, (x, t) E (0, L) x (0, oo), u(0, t) = u(L, t) = ux(L, t) = 0, t E (0, oo), u(x, 0) = u0(x), x E (0, L). We show the well-posedness by the semigroup theory. A set of critical length G is obtained, for which the system possesses conservative solutions. Then we prove the exponentially stability of the associated semigroup when L E6 G by the frequency domain method.

Abstract:When the rotatory inertia is taken into account, vibrations of a linear plate can be described by the Kirchhoff plate equation. Consider this equation with locally distributed control forces and some boundary condition which is the simply supported boundary condition for a rectangular plate. In this paper, the authors establish exact controllability of the system in terms of the equivalence to exact internal controllability of the wave equation, by means of a frequency domain characterization of exact controllability introduced recently in [11].

Abstract:In this paper, we study the null controllability of a coupled parabolic–hyperbolic system in one dimension with a single control using the moment method. More precisely, we consider a system coupling Kuramoto–Sivashinsky–Korteweg–de Vries equation and transport equation through first-order derivatives. We explore the null controllability of four different control systems with the control acting either on the periodic boundary or in some open subset of the interior of the domain with periodic boundary conditions. Depending on the position of the control, we get some regular periodic Sobolev space as the space of initial data for which the null controllability holds, provided the time is sufficiently large.

Abstract:The Burgers equation can describe some phenomena such as turbulence, shock wave and traffic flow dynamics problems. Under consideration in this paper is a discrete Burgers equation, which can be viewed as the discrete counterpart of Burgers equation. Firstly, we correspond this discrete equation to the famous continuous Burgers equation under the continuous limit. Secondly, based on its 2 × 2 matrix linear spectral problem, we construct the discrete generalized (m,N−m)-fold Darboux transformation (DT) to derive various exact solutions covering kink soliton, rational solutions, semi-rational solutions as well as their mixed superposition solutions. Furthermore, we discuss kink multi-soliton resonant phenomena through the graphics analysis and use asymptotic analysis technique to investigate the limit states of various exact solutions. Finally, the dynamical evolutions of kink soliton solutions are studied through numerical simulations. The results obtained in this paper may be useful for exploring physical phenomena governed by Burgers equation.
