Abstract:We consider neutral pseudoscalar mesons in an entangled or Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state with C=-1. Due to quantum entanglement and antisymmetry of this state, the rates of the joint decays of the meson pair display various interesting features, as is well known. As functions of CP and CPT violating parameters, here we obtain some exact results about the joint decay rates and their asymmetries for a given time difference defined for joint decays to flavor eigenstates, as well as those for joint decays to CP eigenstates. The entanglement allows a meaningful and useful definition of the transition amplitude from a CP eigenstate of a meson. These results yield useful information and criteria on CP and CPT violations.

Abstract:Entangled pseudoscalar neutral meson pairs have been used in studying CP violation and searching CPT violation, but almost all the previous works concern $C=-1$ entangled state. Here we consider $C=+1$ entangled state of pseudoscalar neutral mesons, which is quite different from $C=-1$ entangled state and provides complementary information on symmetry violating parameters. After developing a general formalism, we consider three kinds of decay processes, namely, semileptonic-semileptonic, hadronic-hadronic and semileptonic-hadronic processes. For each kind of processes, we calculate the integrated rates of joint decays with a fixed time interval, as well as asymmetries defined for these joint rates of different channels. In turn, these asymmetries can be used to determine the four real numbers of the two indirect symmetry violating parameters, based on a general relation between the symmetry violating parameters and the decay asymmetries presented here. Various discussions are made on indirect and direct violations and the violation of $\Delta {\cal F} =\Delta Q$ rule, with some results presented as theorems.
CP Measurement in Quantum Teleportation of Neutral Mesons

Abstract:Quantum teleportation using neutral pseudoscalar mesons shows novel connections between particle physics and quantum information. The projection basis, which is crucial in the teleportation process, is determined by the conservation laws of particle physics and is different from the Bell basis, as in the usual case. Here we show that one can verify the teleportation process by CP measurement. This method significantly simplifies the high energy quantum teleportation protocol. Especially, it is rigorous and independent of whether CP is violated in weak decays. This method can also be applied to general verification of Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen correlations in particle physics.

Abstract:We experimentally study quantum Zeno effects in a parity-time (PT) symmetric cold atom gas periodically coupled to a reservoir. Based on the state-of-the-art control of inter-site couplings of atoms in a momentum lattice, we implement a synthetic two-level system with passive PT symmetry over two lattice sites, where an effective dissipation is introduced through repeated couplings to the rest of the lattice. Quantum Zeno (anti-Zeno) effects manifest in our experiment as the overall dissipation of the two-level system becoming suppressed (enhanced) with increasing coupling intensity or frequency. We demonstrate that quantum Zeno regimes exist in the broken PT symmetry phase, and are bounded by exceptional points separating the PT symmetric and PT broken phases, as well as by a discrete set of critical coupling frequencies. Our experiment establishes the connection between PT-symmetry-breaking transitions and quantum Zeno effects, and is extendable to higher dimensions or to interacting regimes, thanks to the flexible control with atoms in a momentum lattice.

Abstract:We present a general model-independent formalism of measuring CP and CPT violating parameters through time-ordered integrated rates of correlated decays of C=± 1 entangled states of neutral pseudoscalar mesons. We give the general formulae of CP and CPT violating parameters in terms of four measurable asymmetries defined for the time-ordered integrated rates, applicable to all kinds of decay product. Two special cases which are often realized in experiments are discussed specifically.
Time reversal symmetry violation in an entangled state of pseudoscalar neutral charmed mesons

Abstract:The direct observation of the time reversal symmetry (T) violation in $D^0-bar{D}^0$ systems is important for the test of CPT conservation and the Standard Model (SM). In this paper, we study time-dependent and time-independent (time-integrated) T-violation signals in $C=pm 1$ entangled $D^0-bar{D}^0$ pairs. A possible CPT-violation effect called $omega$-effect is also considered. In SM, the asymmetries due to T-violation in the $C=-1$ states are found to be as small as of the order of $10^{-5}$-$10^{-6}$, while the asymmetries in the $C=+1$ states are of the order of $10^{-2}$. Hence it is better to detect the signal of T-violation in a $C=+1$ entangled system. The correction due to the $omega$-effect in the $C=-1$ states is about $10%$-$30%$ when $|omega|sim 10^{-4}$. The time-dependent signal of T-violation is too small to be easily observed in the $C=-1$ system, however, it may provide a window to detect New Physics (NP) such as the $omega$-effect.

Abstract:CP asymmetries of B -> phi K and B -> eta((1))K modes are analyzed in the QCD improved factorization framework. The phenomenological parameters are determined from the global fit for the available B PP and VP modes (without the subprocess b -> s (s) over bars). The possible deviation of sin(2 phi(1))phi K-0,eta'K-s from sin(2 phi(1))J/Psi K-s and the large branching ratio for B+/--> eta(1)K(+/-) can be simultaneously explained in the context of R-parity conserving SUGRA models and R-parity violating SUSY models.
Parisi-Wu Quantization, CP violation and Beyond the Standard Model

Abstract:The Parisi-Wu scheme of quantization opens up the possibility of using anomalous fermionic gauge theories. An analysis of ultra-violet divergences reveals that the structure of counter terms is different from what is expected in conventional quantization schemes. In this letter it is argued that there exists a possible mechanism of CP violation that requires at least three generations of quarks, a result well known from a phenomenological analysis of mass mixing of quarks. A few observations on possible ways of going beyond the standard model are included.

Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics

Abstract:The study of entanglement in particle physics has been gathering pace in the past few years. It is a new field that is providing important results about the possibility of detecting entanglement and testing Bell inequality at colliders for final states as diverse as top-quark, τ -lepton pairs and Λ -baryons, massive gauge bosons and vector mesons. In this review, after presenting definitions, tools and basic results that are necessary for understanding these developments, we summarize the main findings—as published by the beginning of year 2024—including analyses of experimental data in B meson decays and top-quark pair production. We include a detailed discussion of the results for both qubit and qutrits systems, that is, final states containing spin one-half and spin one particles. Entanglement has also been proposed as a new tool to constrain new particles and fields beyond the Standard Model and we introduce the reader to this promising feature as well.

Abstract:We study the quantum properties of top quark pairs in lepton colliders with unpolarised beams, including spin correlations, entanglement, and violation of Bell inequalities. We present analytical results in the SM and in the SMEFT and discuss several practical aspects, like the choice of quantisation axes and threshold effects. We also note a correspondence between parity symmetry and entanglement. We find that quantum observables exhibit a rich phenomenology in the SM, and can also provide additional leverage in detecting new physics residing at higher scales.

Abstract:We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in eta, K(L) --> mu+mu- decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the decays of J/psi to SU(3) octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of LAMBDA, SIGMA, and THETA.

Abstract:The era of baryon physics is on the horizon with the accumulation of increasing data by collaborations such as LHCb, Belle II, and BESIII. Despite the wealth of data, one of the critical issues in flavor physics, namely CP violation in baryon decays, still awaits experimental confirmation. It is evident that the development of formulas and phenomenological analyses will play a pivotal role in advancing theoretical investigations and experimental measurements in this domain. In this work, we discuss the fundamental definitions and properties of polarization, asymmetry parameters and their associated CP violating observables that may arise in baryon decays. Additionally, we provide a detailed analysis of b-baryon quasi-two and -three body decays based on angular distributions. We highlight the significance of CP asymmetries defined by spin and momentum correlations, as non-trivial spin distributions are expected in baryon decays due to their non-zero polarization in productions and decays. Of particular importance is a complementary relation can be establised for two different types of observables, that are $\mathcal{T}$-even and -odd CP asymmetries respectively. The complementarity indicates that one observable exhibits the sine dependence on strong phase $\Delta\delta$, while another exhibits as cosine. This gives us an distinctive opportunity to avoid the potential large suppression to CP asymmetries from small phase $\Delta\delta$. Two points (\textbf{i}) the exact proof of strong phase dependence behaviour, and (\textbf{ii}) the criterion for complementary observables are clarified. Based on these arguments from theoretical aside, some brief discussions and suggestions on experimental measurements are offered in the final discussions. Lastly, we present a pedagogical introduction to angular distribution techniques based on helicity descriptions for both two and three body decays.

Impact of parity violation on quantum entanglement and Bell nonlocality

Abstract:Quantum entanglement (QE), evidenced by Bell inequality (BI) violations, reveals the nonlocality of nature. Fundamental interactions manifest in various forms, each with distinct effects on QE and BI, but have not yet been studied in depth. We investigate in detail the relationship between QE, Bell nonlocality, and parity-violating interactions in spin-1/2 bipartite systems arising from the decays of spin-0 and spin-1 particles within the quantum field theory (QFT). Our findings reveal that parity (P) violation can completely disentangle particle pairs, rendering Bell tests ineffective in distinguishing between classical and quantum theories. In the spin-0 case, complete disentanglement occurs at maximal P violation, which is similarly true for spin-1 decays. Without restrictions from the QFT, the predicted relation between entanglement and the Bell nonlocality may no longer be valid and we propose promising methods for testing it. Additionally, we emphasize the previously overlooked influence of magnetic fields within detectors, which alters predictions for QE and Bell nonlocality. This environmental effect induces spurious P and charge-parity (CP) violations and thus has to be subtracted for genuine P, CP, and Bell tests.

Theoretical underpinnings of CP-Violation at the High-energy Frontier

Abstract:We present a general analysis for the discovery potential of CP-violation (CPV) searches in scattering processes at TeV-scale colliders in an effective field theory framework, using the SMEFT basis for higher dimensional operators. In particular, we systematically examine the CP-violating sector of the SMEFT framework in some well motivated limiting cases, based on flavour symmetries of the underlying heavy theory. We show that, under naturality arguments of the underlying new physics (NP) and in the absence of (or suppressed) flavour-changing interactions, there is only a single operator, $Q_{t\phi} = \phi^\dagger \phi \left(\bar q_3 t \right) \tilde{\phi} $ which alters the top-Yukawa coupling, that can generate a non-vanishing CP-violating effect from tree-level SM$\times$NP interference terms. We find, however, that CPV from $Q_{t\phi} = \phi^\dagger \phi \left(\bar q_3 t \right) \tilde{\phi} $ is expected to be at best of $O(1\%)$ and, therefore, very challenging if at all measurable at the LHC or other future high-energy colliders. We then conclude that a potentially measurable CP-violating effect of $O(10\%)$ can arise in high-energy scattering processes ONLY if flavour-changing interactions are present in the underlying NP; in this case a sizable CPV can be generated at the tree-level by pure NP$\times$NP effects and not from SM$\times$NP interference. We provide several examples of CPV at the LHC and at a future $e^+e^-$ collider to support these statements.
