Abstract:We demonstrate a Q-switched Ytterbium-doped double-cladding fiber laser based on single-walled carbon nanotubes as saturable absorbers. The pure single-walled carbon nanotubes were directly deposited on the one end of the Ytterbium-doped double-cladding fiber by optically driven deposition method. A linear-cavity was employed and a 1.5m long Ytterbium-doped double-cladding fiber played as the gain fiber. The Ytterbium-doped double-cladding fiber was pumped by a 976-nm fiber coupled diode laser. The maximum output power of 1.3W was obtained at the wavelength of 1070nm. The pulse-repetition rates were tuned from 9.1 KHz to 60 KHz when the pump powers were changed from 1.85W to 10W and the shortest pulse duration was around 600ns.

Abstract:Abstract We have proposed and demonstrated a Q-switched Thulium doped fibre laser (TDFL) with a ‘Yin-Yang’ all-fibre cavity scheme based on a combination of nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) and nonlinear amplified loop mirror (NALM). Unidirectional lasing operation has been achieved without any intracavity isolator. By using a carbon nanotube polymer composite based saturable absorber (SA), we demonstrated the laser output power of ~197 mW and pulse energy of 1.7 μJ. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest output power from a nanotube polymer composite SA based Q-switched Thulium doped fibre laser.

Abstract:We demonstrated tunable Q-switched and mode-locked Ho3+/Pr3+-codoped ZBLAN fiber laser in mid-infrared region using single-walled carbon nanotubes. Both stable Q-switched pulses from 2837.6 to 2892.6 nm and mode locked pulses from 2836.2 to 2872.6 nm were achieved.

Abstract:In this paper, we demonstrate a dual-wavelength mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser. The single-wall carbon nanotube is used as the mode-locker due to its large and ultrafast nonlinear optical responses. By tuning the pump power and adjusting the PC properly, stable dual-wavelength output can be achieved. The center wavelength of the dual-wavelength pulses are 1894 nm and 1907 nm, respectively. The repetition rate is about 17.64 MHz which exactly corresponds to the total length of the ring cavity. The signal-to-noise ratio is over 30 dB. It is a reliable method to realize dual-wavelength mode-locking operating at the range of 2 mu m.

Abstract:We demonstrate a dual-wavelength passively mode-locked soliton fiber laser based on the single-wall carbon nanotube saturable absorber. By using a simple scheme of adjusting the intracavity loss, the gain profile of the erbium-doped fiber laser is effectively controlled. Besides operating at a single wavelength, the laser is able to simultaneously generate sub-picosecond pulses at both ~1532 and 1557 nm wavelength. The mode-locking wavelength can also be quickly switched from one wavelength to the other by changing the intracavity loss with a tunable attenuator.

Abstract:In this paper, the mode-locked laser pulse with a maximum power of 366 mW is achieved by using Yb-ions-doped double-clad fiber as the gain medium and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as the saturable absorber (SA). The saturable absorber with a modulation depth of 27% is fabricated by spreading the well-dispersed SWCNTs on the D-shaped segment of the fiber, which is directly etched on the standard single-mode fiber by water-assisted femtosecond laser ablation. The ring-cavity structure fiber laser is fabricated based on the SWCNT-SA. The mode-locked pulse width of 93.8 fs, central wavelength of 1083.8 nm, and 3 dB bandwith of 8.6 nm at the repetition rate of 5.59 MHz are obtained in the optimized polarization state under a pump power of 4 W.

Abstract:We propose and demonstrate a saturable absorber (SA) of composite mode-locked mechanisms based on the Carbon nanotube (CNT) film sandwiched between the multimode fiber (MMF) connectors (CNT-MMF) for achieving passively mode-locked fiber laser. Compared with that CNT-film sandwiched between the single-mode fiber (SMF) connectors (CNT-SMF), the modulation depth is increased 1.48% and the saturation intensity decreases, which is the main reason that the fiber laser based on CNT-MMF-SA can achieve full mode-locked and work for a long time at higher pump power. However, the fiber laser based on the CNT-SMF-SA can only occur the Q-switched mode-locked state and the CNT-film is easily burned out. Further, the structure of the CNT-MMF provides an effective way for obtaining high damage threshold and improving the performance of the fiber laser based on various nanomaterial films. Our work dramatically broadens the design possibilities in terms of technology and provides convenient architectures for the nanomaterial-based mode-locked fiber laser.

Abstract:We fabricate a nanotube-polyvinyl alcohol saturable absorber with a broad absorption at 1.6 μm. We demonstrate a pulsed fiber laser working in the telecommunication L band by using this composite as a mode locker. This gives ∼498±16 fs pulses at 1601 nm with a 26.7 MHz repetition rate.

Abstract:We present a detailed investigation of pulse width and spectral dynamics of an Er3+-doped soliton fiber ring laser, mode-locked by a carbon-nanotube-polymer composite. The laser is stable and produces similar to 650 fs pulses at a fundamental repetition rate of 20.8 MHz. The carbon nanotube saturable absorber has a low saturation intensity of similar to 18.9 MW/cm(2) and a 16.9% reduction in ab-sorption (due to saturation) at high pulse intensity (similar to 270 MW/cm(2)). Abstract:We investigated 1-μm multimode fiber laser based on carbon nanotubes, where multiple typical pulse states were observed, including Q-switched, Q-switched mode-locked, and spatiotemporal mode-locked pulses. Particularly, stable spatiotemporal mode-locking was realized with a low threshold, where the pulse duration was 37 ps and the wavelength was centred at 1060.5 nm. Moreover, both the high signal to noise and long-term operation stability proved the reliability of the mode-locked laser. Furthermore, the evolution of the spatiotemporal mode-locked pulses in the cavity was also simulated and discussed. This work exhibits the flexible outputs of spatiotemporal phenomena in multimode lasers based on nanomaterials, providing more possibilities for the development of high-dimensional nonlinear dynamics.

Abstract:An all-fiberized, mode-locked thulium-doped laser was demonstrated using single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as the saturable absorber (SA). These SWCNTs were prepared by pyrolyzing tripropylamine confined in the one-dimensional nanochannels of zeolite ZnAPO-5 (AFI) single crystal and then the SWCNTs@AFI SA was transferred onto the end face of fiber connector. By inserting the SA into the fiber laser cavity, stable modelocked solitons with 810 fs pulse width, 14.12 MHz repetition rate centered at 1913.6 nm was generated, the laser output showed the long-term stability and high signal-to-noise ratio. The experimental results confirmed that the SWCNTs@AFI could be an effective candidate as saturable absorption material for passively generating ultrafast pulses in 2 mu m laser systems. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of SWCNTs@AFI SA in fiber lasers at 2 mu m.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate switchable dual-wavelength mode-locking of thulium-doped fiber laser (TDFL), using single-wall carbon nanotubes as saturable absorber. Due to the cavity birefringence-induced comb filter, switchable mode-locking can be individually realized for the proposed TDFL among three wavelengths of 1947, 1945, and 1943 nm, with almost the same 3-dB spectral bandwidth of 2.2 nm, repetition rate of 13.6 MHz, and pulsewidth of 1.8 ps. Furthermore, after finely adjusting the intra-cavity birefringence, we are able to demonstrate switchable dual-wavelength mode-locking at either 1947/1945 or 1945/1943 nm. The optical spectra of dual-wavelength mode-locking have almost the same characteristics and can maintain stable operation for a long period.
