Abstract:Asia is the world’s largest continent and comprises most of the Holarctic biogeographic region. The genus Andrena is principally distributed through the Holarctic, but it remains understudied in Asia. The subgenus Cnemidandrena Hedicke, 1933 is distributed across Asia with some species reaching south to the Tibetan Plateau. However, some southern members display an unusual morphology, including A. (Cnemidandrena) kishidai chagyabensis Wu, 1982 (newly recorded for Bhutan, India, and Nepal) and A. (Cnemidandrena) granulitergorum Tadauchi & Xu, 2002 (newly recorded for Nepal). The male of A. granulitergorum is described for the first time, A. (Cnemidandrena) rufina Morawitz, 1876 is reported from Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Kashmir for the first time, and possible senior synonyms for Asian A. (Cnemidandrena) are suggested. To contribute to an improved understanding of localised Asian Andrena diversity, the following new species are described: A. (Cnemidandrena) textrix sp. nov. from China, A. (incertae sedis) liebigi sp. nov. and A. (Troandrena) monfaredi sp. nov. from Iran, and A. (incertae sedis) quercorum sp. nov. from Turkey. These results further confirm that additional taxonomic work is needed to harmonise Andrena species concepts across the different biogeographic regions of Asia.

Abstract:A new species of the genus Nilothauma Kieffer, N. pandum sp. n., is described, and its morphological descriptions and illustrations are also given. A key to the males of Nilothauma is given. The adult male of N. pandum sp. n. can be distinguished from known species of the genus by the following combination of characters: anal point very broadly lanceolate with microtrichia in median ridge and apical margin, rounded at apex; superior volsella pad-like, expanded distally; median volsella curved, rounded at apex, with 2 long basal setae and 1 long median seta.

Abstract:ABSTRACT A new species of Minanga Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Sigalphinae), Minanga brevicarinata Tan & Chen, sp. nov., from China is described and illustrated, Previously known mainly from the Afrotropical region (eight species), with one species recently described from the Nearctic region, the genus is recorded for the first time from the boundary of Palearctic and Oriental regions. A new subgenus, Anopliminanga subgen. nov., is proposed to include two species (Minanga achterbergi Sharkey and Minanga brevicarinata sp. nov.). A key to species of the genus Minanga is updated. The distribution of Minanga and the new subgenus are briefly discussed.

Abstract:A new species in the genus Conophymacris Willemse, 1933 from Yunnan, China is described. The new species Conophymacris reni sp. nov. is similar to C. jiulongensis Zheng et al., 2009, but differs from latter in width of vertex between eyes of male equal to 2.8 width of frontal ridge between antennae, epiproct of male width longer than length, cercus of male apical part not wider, tegmina extending over the hind margin of first abdominal tergum, hind tibia all red, epiphallus ancorae small, lower than anterior projection, lophi not acute, width of subgenital plate shorter than its length and hind margin with 1 tooth in female. Type specimens are deposited in the Natural Museum of Hebei University, Baoding, Hebei, China.

Abstract:India is a large country in Asia, and covers the transition zone between the Palaearctic and Indomalayan biogeographic realms, with influences from both. Present in India are members of the genus Andrena , an enormous bee genus distributed predominantly throughout the Holarctic, with the greatest Indian diversity in the Himalayan region due to its Palaearctic influences. Despite early studies in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries, there has been almost no work on this group in India during the past century. A revision of type and non-type museum material combined with new collections has produced a revised total of 36 species of Andrena for India, including 11 species reported for the first time as well as the newly described Andrena ( Melandrena ) kedarnatha Wood & Gautam sp. nov. (northern India and Nepal) and Andrena ( Simandrena ) tungnatha Wood & Gautam sp. nov. (northern India). The true holotype of A. ( Euandrena ) communis Smith, 1879 is definitively located. Andrena burkelii Bingham, 1908 is synonymised with A. ( Pallandrena ) morosa Cameron, 1897. Lectotypes are designated for A. ( Euandrena ) murreensis Cockerell, 1923 and A. (incertae sedis) comberima beharica Cockerell, 1920. Further comments are made on the status of Andrena taxa described from India for which type material is and is not currently available. Thirty additional Andrena taxa suggested as present in the Indian fauna are excluded as either erroneous or lacking supporting data. These results illustrate the extent to which study of the Indian Andrena fauna has been confused, and provide a more stable taxonomic base for future studies in this country.

Abstract:Evolutionary history and ecology of Andrena (Foveoandrena) androfovea, a new nearctic mining bee (Hymenoptera, Andrenidae) species and subgenus. With about 1700 described species, the mining bee genus Andrena is a rapidly diversifying lineage and one of the most species‐rich groups of bees. Recent phylogenomic advances have greatly improved our understanding of the phylogeny of the genus, yet many species still await description, subgeneric assignments that are in line with their evolutionary history, as well as study of their morphology and behavior. Here we provide a comprehensive account of a newly discovered species, Andrena androfovea n. sp. We sequence the genome of the new species and include it in the presently most comprehensive phylogenomic analysis of Andrena using ultraconserved element (UCE) sequence data, comprising 264 samples and 249 species. Given the recovered phylogenetic position of the new species, we establish a new subgenus, Foveoandrena, provide a detailed morphological description, and discuss the antiquity and historical biogeography of the lineage in light of molecular divergence time estimates. Lastly, we study and document the foraging behavior of the new species with photos and video footage, and discuss the species' unusual host plant associations with Chamaesaracha and Quincula, both Solanaceae. Being likely oligolectic on these plants, we present the first documented case of an Andrena species being narrowly associated with members of this plant family. By integrating multiple lines of documentation, our study provides a particularly detailed account of species discovery and description.

Abstract:Synchroa medogensis, a new species of Synchroidae Lacordaire, 1859, is described and illustrated, based on a single male collected from Mêdog, Xizang, China. This new species is close to S. elongatula Nikitsky, 1999 and S. melanotoides Lewis, 1895, but could be distinguished by the elongated antennae and elytra, the apically narrowed prosternal process and the stout parameres.The new information of this new species provided in this paper include: description, type information, distribution and comparison amongst S. medogensis sp. nov., S. elongatula and S. melanotoides.

Abstract:A new species of gall wasp, Andricus wugangensis Zeng, Liu, & Zhu sp. nov. is described and illustrated herein from Hunan Province, China. The new species is most similar to A. wuhanensis Ide, Abe, Su & Zhu and A. xishuangbanaensis Melika & Tang in morphology but can be easily distinguished by having 1) a large V-shaped carina on the lower face and 2) a broad transverse depression spanning the region between the inner margin of the eyes on the upper face. The results of a phylogenetic analysis and pairwise genetic distance comparison, based on COI sequences, were consistent with the conclusion of the comparative morphological assessment of the similar species: A. wuganensis, A. wuhanensis and A. xishuangbanaensis, although the morphological differences are more obvious than the small genetic distance of the COI sequences, which is 4.3% and 3% between the new species and A. wuhanensis and A. xishuangbanaensis, respectively. Additionally, a taxonomic key to the known species of Andricus from China is provided.

Abstract:Two new species of the genus Eotmethis Bey-Bienko, 1948, namely Eotmethis xiai sp. nov., and Eotmethis platyverticus sp. nov. from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu province are described in this paper. The new species Eotmethis xiai sp. nov. is allied to E. recipennis Xi & Zheng, 1986, but differs from latter by the vertical diameter of eye about 1.2 times as long as horizontal diameter, prozona of pronotum equal to metazona, tegmina of female shorter, reaching 2nd abdominal tergite only. The new species Eotmethis platyverticus sp. nov. is allied to E. holanennis Zheng & Gow, 1981, but differs from latter by width of vertex between eyes 2 times diameter of eye and prozona of pronotum longer than metazoan in female. The type specimens are deposited in College of Life Sciences, Hebei University, Baoding, China.

Abstract:The fauna of the genus Stenodynerus de Saussure, 1863 of China is supplemented with one new species and six new records, for a total of 30 recorded species. The new species, S. tongrenensis Zeng, Chen & Li, sp. nov ., is described and illustrated in detail from Guizhou (China). The six following species are newly recorded from China: S . coreanus (Tsuneki, 1970), S . difficilis (Morawitz, 1867), S. kaszabi Giordani Soika, 1976, S . punctifrons (Thomson, 1874), S . steckianus (von Schulthess, 1897), and S . trotzinai (Morawitz, 1895). An updated key to the Chinese species of Stenodynerus is given.

Abstract:Recent molecular phylogenetic studies have greatly improved our understanding of the higher classification of the bee genus Andrena Fabricius. Based on these findings, we herein describe three new, early-diverging western Palaearctic subgenera of the genus: Andrena (Warnckandrena) Pisanty subgen. nov., A. (Uncandrena) Pisanty subgen. nov., and A. (Vellandrena) Pisanty subgen. nov. For each subgenus, we provide a detailed description and a diagnosis against its closest morphological relatives, as well as information on flower hosts and pollen preferences. The following new species are described: Andrena (Warnckandrena) otoolei Pisanty sp. nov. from Turkey and the Levant, A. (Warnckandrena) papio Pisanty sp. nov. from Turkey, and A. (incertae sedis) remota Wood sp. nov. from China. The female of A. (Vellandrena) bassana Warncke, 1969 is described for the first time. The formerly infraspecific name Andrena (Vellandrena) etesiaca Warnkce, 1975 stat. nov. is recognized as a valid species. We additionally briefly review the enigmatic subgenus A. (Melittoides) Friese, 1921, and designate a lectotype for A. (Melittoides) melittoides Friese, 1899. We discuss main ancestral traits and evolutionary patterns that may be inferred with our improved concept of the genus. This study is another important step in the enormous project of revising the systematics of the gigantic genus Andrena.
