Abstract:Novel disulfuration was established via cross coupling between nucleophilic disulfurating reagent and arylsilane introducing two sulfur atoms in one step. This methodology was applied to synthesize various unsymmetrical disulfides under mild conditions via copper-catalyzed oxidative Hiyama-type cross coupling, providing a new pathway for disulfide synthesis. In addition, pH value of system displayed a key role in alcoholysis process.

Abstract:Sulfur is an essential element because it exists widely in proteins. The disulfide bond is an important moiety in many different types of significant organic molecules. A new approach for oxidant- and catalyst-free S-H/S-H cross-coupling, with hydrogen evolution, to construct unsymmetrical disulfides was developed. Under the conditions of an undivided cell at room temperature, a series of unsymmetrical disulfides were prepared with up to 87 % yield from the direct coupling of an aryl mercaptan and alkyl mercaptan. Gram-scale synthesis also highlights the synthetic utility of this electrochemical strategy.

Abstract:The electrochemical oxidative cross-dehydrogenative coupling of arylsulfinic acids with thiophenols was achieved via a radical process. A wide range of arylsulfinic acids and substituted thiophenols were found to be tolerated, providing unsymmetrical thiosulfonates in good to excellent yields. This electrochemical method can also be used for the reaction of arylsulfinic acids with disulfides or diselenides to obtain thiosulfonates or selenosulfonates.

Abstract:Oxidative cross-coupling of two thiols is the most direct tool for the synthesis of unsymmetrical disulfides and highly desirable across academia and industry. However, the inevitable formation of significant amounts of the corresponding symmetrical by-products is a major issue. We herein present a method toward the synthesis of unsymmetrical disulfides in which the homo-coupling of the thiols is effectively inhibited by adding the two thiols sequentially, taking advantage of rapid oxidation of the thiol by bromodimethylsulfonium bromide.

Abstract:A novel reagent, which introduces two sulfur atoms in one step, was designed and used for the construction of diverse disulfanes by copper‐catalyzed oxidative cross‐coupling under mild reaction conditions. By applying this stable and readily prepared reagent, late‐stage modification of pharmaceuticals and natural products can be achieved straightforward. The scaled‐up experiments further indicated the practicality of this protocol. The pH value of the system plays a key role in achieving highly selective cleavage of the C−S bond instead of a S−S bond in the transformation.

Abstract:A palladium catalyzed multicomponent cross-electrophile coupling involving sulfur dioxide under a metal-reductant free condition is presented here. Both aryl-alkyl and alkyl-alkyl sulfones could be successfully achieved. This protocol features mild reaction conditions, wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance and excellent regioselectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that two Pd catalytic cycles are involved and SO2 exclusively coupled with aryl iodides rather than allylic acetates, which are consistent with the DFT studies.

Abstract:Developing innovative methodologies for disulfide preparation is of importance in contemporary organic chemistry. Despite significant advancements in nickel-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling reactions for forming carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, the synthesis of S-S bonds remains a considerable challenge. In this context, we present a novel approach utilizing nickel catalysts for the reductive cross-coupling of thiosulfonates. This method operates under mild conditions, offering a convenient and efficient pathway to synthesize a wide range of both symmetrical and unsymmetrical disulfides from readily available, bench-stable thiosulfonates with exceptional selectivity. Notably, this approach is highly versatile, allowing for the late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals and the preparation of various targeted compounds. A comprehensive mechanistic investigation has been conducted to substantiate the proposed hypothesis.

Abstract:Highly active and selective aerobic cross-dehydrogenative coupling of terminal alkynes with thiols to construct alkynyl sulfides catalyzed by Cu(I) using molecular oxygen as the oxidant has been demonstrated under mild reaction conditions. Abstract:A novel, clean and efficient protocol for the preparation of disulfides has been developed through the photochemical radical homo- and cross-coupling reaction of sulfenyl chlorides under LED irradiation and without the use of any catalyst and additive. The representative photochemical homo-coupling of trichloromethyl sulfenyl chloride has been successfully conducted on kilogram-scale in a continuous flow mode. The solvent and the main byproduct can be recovered in high yields, which makes the approach be highly atom economical. Various disulfides were prepared by the homo- and cross-coupling of sulfenyl chlorides under LED irradiation without the use of any catalyst or additive. The representative reaction was performed on kilogram-scale in a continuous flow mode.

Abstract:A facile and rapid synthesis of unsymmetrical aryl disulfides using PPh3-mediated reductive coupling of thiophenols with aryl sulfonyl chlorides was described. Good functional group tolerance and scalability were achieved in this strategy. More importantly, the approach enables the introduction of sulfonyl chlorides into the synthesis of asymmetric organic disulfides under catalyst- and base-free conditions. Using this method, unsymmetrical aromatic disulfides could be prepared from inexpensive and readily available starting materials in moderate to excellent isolated yields, through a nucleophilic substitution pathway.

Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed desulfitative oxidative coupling of sodium arylsulfinites for highly region-selective Heck-type reaction of allylic alcohols has been developed. The compatibility of the functionalities of -I, -Br, and -F would explore further postfunctionalization of the C-X bonds. This method provides a new and straightforward protocol for the synthesis of beta-aryl ketones and aldehydes. The deuterium labeling experiments indicated that this transformation may proceed via a [1, 2-H] shift process.

Abstract:A simple and practical NaI-catalyzed direct C-H sulfenylation of arenes has been developed under air. In this reaction, aryl sulfides were obtained in moderate to excellent yields with high regioselectivity from readily available aromatic compounds and aryl/alkyl thiols, even on gram scale. To demonstrate the practicability of this reaction, two bioactive compound skeletons were synthesized in good yields. This method can also be used to late-stage modification of curcumin.

Abstract:For cross-coupling reactions of alkyl electrophiles, alkyl halides, alkyl tosylates, alkyl acetates and alkyl sulfones exhibit high reaction efficiency when various transition metal catalysts and reaction partners are employed. As crystalline and readily available alkyl electrophiles, alkyl sulfones in radical cross-coupling reactions open a new avenue for modularly generating diverse alkyl compounds. It is believed that more transformations using sulfones as electrophiles will be developed in the near future.

Abstract:A novel formal cross-coupling of aryl methyl sulfones and alcohols affording alkyl aryl ethers via an SRN1 pathway is developed. Two marketed antitubercular drugs were efficiently prepared employing this approach as the key step. A dimsyl-anion initiated radical chain process was revealed as the major pathway. DFT calculations indicate that the formation of a radical anion via nucleophilic addition of alkoxide to the aryl radical is the key step in determining the observed chemoselectivity.

Abstract:A practical and switchable method for the synthesis of aryl sulfones and sulfoxides via sulfide oxidation was developed. The chemoselectivities of products were simply controlled by reaction temperature using O2/air as the terminal oxidant and oxygen source. The broad substrate scope, easy realization of gram-scale production, and the simplification of a sulfide oxidation system render the strategy attractive and valuable.

Abstract:A protocol for the copper-catalyzed C–S bond formation between aryl, alkyl, or heteroaryl thiols and aryl or heteroaryl halides is reported. The reaction is catalyzed by Cu2O which shows the highest catalytic activity with ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate ligand in DMSO at 80°C. The corresponding coupling products are obtained with good to excellent yields under relatively mild reaction conditions with good chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance.

Abstract:In contrast to the previously reported intramolecular aryl migration, we present the selective sulfenylation of ortho-trifluoromethanesulfonate (OTf) substituted diaryliodonium salts with thiols. As such, diarylsulfides bearing vicinal OTf groups were synthesized in good yields. The unique reactivity of the vicinal OTf group and the sulfur atom in arylsulfides offers further transformations.

Abstract:The Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl halides, alkyl halides, and Na2S2O3 center dot 5H(2)O to deliver aromatic thioethers is described. Pyridine, furan, thiophene, benzofuran, benzoxazole, benzothiophene, benzothiazole, and pyrazine are all amenable to this protocol. The odorless and stable solid Na2S2O3 center dot 5H(2)O was used as a convenient and environmentally friendly source of sulfur. Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings without thiols or thiophenols to build C-S bonds have not previously been achieved, which renders our observation more striking.
