Abstract:We find some necessary conditions for a smooth irreducible curve C subset of P-4 to be isolated in a smooth quintic threefold. As an application, we prove that Knutsen's list of examples of smooth isolated curves in general quintic threefolds is complete up to degree 9.

Abstract: Recently Knutsen found criteria for the curves in a complete linear system $|\mathcal{L}|$ on a smooth surface $X$ in a nodal K-trivial threefold $Y_0$ to deform to a scheme of finitely many smooth isolated curves in a general deformation $Y_t$ of $Y_0$. In this article we develop new methods to check whether the set of nodes of $Y_0$ imposes independent conditions on $|\mathcal{L}|$. As an application, we find new smooth isolated curves in complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds.
Castelnuovo bound for curves in projective 3-folds

Abstract:The Castelnuovo bound conjecture, which is proposed by physicists, predicts an effective vanishing result for Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one. Previously, it is only known for a few cases and all the proofs rely on the Bogomolov-Gieseker conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. In this paper, we prove the Castelnuovo bound conjecture for any Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one, up to a linear term and finitely many degree, without assuming the conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. Furthermore, we prove an effective vanishing theorem for surface-counting invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds of Picard number one. We also apply our techniques to study low-degree curves on some explicit Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Our approach is based on a general iterative method to obtain upper bounds for the genus of one-dimensional closed subschemes in a fixed 3-fold, which is a combination of classical techniques and the wall-crossing of weak stability conditions on derived categories, and works for any projective 3-fold with at worst isolated singularities over any algebraically closed field.

Abstract: We prove a conjectural vanishing result for Gopakumar--Vafa invariants of quintic 3-folds, referred to as Castelnuovo bound in the literature. Furthermore, we calculate Gopakumar--Vafa invariants at Castelnuovo bound $g=\frac{d^2+5d+10}{10}$. As physicists showed, these two properties allow us to compute all Gromov--Witten invariants of quintic 3-folds up to genus $53$, provided that the conifold gap condition holds. We also give a bound for the genus of any one-dimensional closed subscheme in a smooth hypersurface of degree $\leq 5$, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.
Three approaches to a categorical Torelli theorem for cubic threefolds of non-Eckardt type via the equivariant Kuznetsov components

Abstract:Let $Y$ be a cubic threefold with a non-Eckardt type involution $\tau$. Our first main result is that the $\tau$-equivariant category of the Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u_{\mathbb{Z}_2}(Y)$ determines the isomorphism class of $Y$ for general $(Y,\tau)$. We shall prove this categorical Torelli theorem via three approaches: a noncommutative Hodge theoretical one (using a generalization of the intermediate Jacobian construction due to Alexander Perry), a Bridgeland moduli theoretical one (using equivariant stability conditions), and a Chow theoretical one (using some techniques in [kuznetsovnonclodedfield2021]).The remaining part of the paper is devoted to proving an equivariant infinitesimal categorical Torelli for non-Eckardt cubic threefolds $(Y,\tau)$. To accomplish it, we prove a compatibility theorem on the algebra structures of the Hochschild cohomology of the bounded derived category $D^b(X)$ of a smooth projective variety $X$ and on the Hochschild cohomology of a semi-orthogonal component of $D^b(X)$. Another key ingredient is a generalization of a result in [macri2009infinitesima] which shows that the twisted Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg isomorphism is compatible with the actions on the Hochschild cohomology and on the singular cohomology induced by an automorphism of $X$. In appendix, we prove an equivariant categorical Torelli theorem for arbitrary cubic threefold with a geometric involution under a natural assumption.

Abstract:We describe the invariants of plane quartic curves -- nonhyperelliptic genus 3 curves in their canonical model -- as determined by Dixmier and Ohno, with application to the classification of curves with given structure. In particular, we determine modular equations for the strata in the moduli space $\Me_3$ of plane quartics which have at least seven hyperflexes, and obtain an computational characterization of curves in these strata.

On Zariski multiplicity conjecture for quasihomogeneous surfaces with non-isolated singularities

Abstract:We consider a finitely determined map germ $f$ from $(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ to $(\mathbb{C}^3,0)$. In this case, the double point curve $D(f)$ plays a fundamental role in studying the topology of the image of $f$. When $f$ is quasihomogeneous and has corank $1$, we present a characterization of the fold components of the double point curve $D(f)$. In our setting, we also consider Zariski multiplicity question for a pair of germs of (parametrized) quasihomogeneous surfaces $(\textbf{X},0)$ and $(\textbf{Y},0)$ in $(\mathbb{C}^3,0)$ with one dimensional singular set. Finally, we characterize Whitney equisingularity of an unfolding $\mathcal{F} =(f_t,t)$ of $f$ through the constancy of the Milnor number of a single plane curve in the source. This gives in some sense an answer to a question by Ruas in $1994$.

On K-moduli of quartic threefolds

Abstract:The family of smooth Fano 3-folds with Picard rank 1 and anticanonical volume 4 consists of quartic 3-folds and of double covers of the 3-dimensional quadric branched along an octic surface. They can all be parametrised as complete intersections of a quadric and a quartic in the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,1,1,1,1,2)$, denoted by $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$; all such smooth complete intersections are K-stable. With the aim of investigating the compactification of the moduli space of quartic 3-folds given by K-stability, we exhibit three phenomena: (i) there exist K-polystable complete intersection $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ Fano 3-folds which deform to quartic 3-folds and are neither quartic 3-folds nor double covers of quadric 3-folds - in other words, the closure of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,4}\subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ in the K-moduli contains elements that are not of this type; (ii) any quasi-smooth $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ is K-polystable; (iii) the closure in the K-moduli space of the locus parametrising complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$ which are not complete intersections $X_{2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2)$ contains only points which correspond to complete intersections $X_{2,2,4} \subset \mathbb{P}(1^5,2^2)$.

New perspectives on categorical Torelli theorems for del Pezzo threefolds

Abstract:Let $Y_d$ be a del Pezzo threefold of Picard rank one and degree $d\geq 2$. In this paper, we apply two different viewpoints to study $Y_d$ via a particular admissible subcategory of its bounded derived category, called the Kuznetsov component: (i) Brill-Noether reconstruction. We show that $Y_d$ can be uniquely recovered as a Brill-Noether locus of Bridgeland stable objects in its Kuznetsov component. (ii) Exact equivalences. We prove that, up to composing with an explicit auto-equivalence, any Fourier-Mukai type equivalence of Kuznetsov components of two del Pezzo threefolds of degree $2\leq d\leq 4$ can be lifted to an equivalence of their bounded derived categories. As a result, we obtain a complete description of the group of Fourier-Mukai type auto-equivalences of the Kuznetsov component of $Y_d$. We also describe the group of Fourier-Mukai type auto-equivalences of Kuznetsov components of index one prime Fano threefolds $X_{2g-2}$ of genus $g=6$ and $8$. As an application, first we identify the group of automorphisms of $X_{14}$ and its associated $Y_3$. Then we give a new disproof of Kuznetsov's Fano threefold conjecture by assuming Gushel-Mukai threefolds are general. In an appendix, we classify instanton sheaves on quartic double solids, generalizing a result of Druel.

We study the multiplication of Hochschild-Serre algebra of its Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(Y)$, via matrix factorization. As an application, we give a new disproof of Kuznetsov's Fano threefold conjecture.

Abstract:Let X be a compact connected strongly pseudoconvex CR Manifold of real dimension 2n - 1 in Cn+1. Tanaka introduced a spectral sequence E-r((p, q)) (X) with E-1((p,q))(X) being the Kohn-Rossi co-homology group and E-2((k,0))(X) being the holomorphic De Rham 2 cohomology denoted by H-h(k)(X). We study the holomorphic De Rham cohomology in terms of the s-invariant of the isolated singularities of the variety V bounded by X. We give a characterization of the singularities with vanishing s-invariants. For n >= 3, Yau used the Kohn-Rossi cohomology groups to solve the classical complex Plateau problem in 1981. For n = 2, the problem has remained unsolved for over a quarter of a century. In this paper, we make progress in this direction by putting some conditions on X so that V will have very mild singularities. Specifically, we prove that if dim X = 3 and H-h(2)(X) = 0, then X is a boundary of complex variety V with only isolated quasi-homogeneous singularities such that the dual graphs of the exceptional sets in the resolution are star shaped and all curves are rational.

Abstract:For a general cubic fourfold $X \subset \mathbb{P}^5$, we compute the Hodge numbers of the locus $S \subset F$ of lines of second type. We also give an upper bound of 6 for the degree of irrationality of the Fano scheme of lines of any smooth cubic hypersurface.

On the geometry of some strata of uni-singular curves

Abstract:We study geometric properties of linear strata of uni-singular curves. The singularities of closures of the strata are resolved and the resolutions are represent as projective bundles. This enables to study their geometry. In particular we calculate the Picard groups of the strata and the intersection rings of the closures of the strata. The rational equivalence classes of some geometric cycles on the strata are calculated. As an auxiliary problem we discuss the collision of two singular points, restrictions on possible resulting singularity types and solve the collision problem in several cases. Then we present some cases of enumeration of curves with two singular points, one of them being a node.

Abstract:For a $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-fold $X$ on which $K_X$ is a canonical divisor, we investigate the geometry induced from the linear system $\lvert -mK_X \rvert$ and prove that the anti-$m$-canonical map $\varphi - m$ is birational onto its image for all $m \geq 39$. By a weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-fold $X$ we mean a projective one with at worst terminal singularities on which $-K_X$ is $\mathbb{Q}$-Cartier, nef and big. For weak $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano 3-folds, we prove that $\varphi - m$ is birational onto its image for all $m \geq 97$.

Abstract:A complex smooth prime Fano threefold $X$ of genus $9$ is related via projective duality to a quartic plane curve $\Gamma$. We use this setup to study the restriction of rank $2$ stable sheaves with prescribed Chern classes on $X$ to an anticanonical $K3$ surface $S\subset X$. Varying the threefold $X$ containing $S$ gives a rational Lagrangian fibration $$\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7) \dashrightarrow \mathbb{P}^3$$ with generic fibre birational to the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_X(2,1,7)$ of sheaves on $X$. Moreover, we prove that this rational fibration extends to an actual fibration on a birational model $\mathcal{M}$ of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$. In a last part, we use Bridgeland stability conditions to exhibit all $K$-trivial smooth birational models of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$, which consist in itself and $\mathcal{M}$. We prove that these models are related by a flop, and we describe the positive, movable and nef cones of $\mathcal{M}_S(2,1,7)$.
