Abstract:The problem of the two-photon coherent generation of entanglement photon pairs in Quantum Optics has been intensively studied for the last years. It is important to note that the two-quantum cooperative effects play a main role in other fields of physics as well. The collective processes in Condensed Matter have many analogical proprieties with cooperative radiation effects in Quantum Optics. Recently the two-quantum generation of entanglement photons and its applications in information technology and communication has been intensively studied. The new cooperative emission phenomenon for dipole-forbidden transitions of inverted system of radiators can be observed in the processes of the two-photon spontaneous emission.

Abstract:We propose cooperative two-photon lasing in two quantum dots coupled to a single mode photonic crystal cavity. We consider both quantum dots are driven either incoherently or coherently using external pump. We incorporate exciton-phonon coupling using polaron transformed master equation. Using quantum laser theory, single and multi-photon excess emission (difference between emission and absorption) into cavity mode are investigated. The single and two-photon excess emission contribute to cavity photons, predominantly. Varying the pump strength can lead to single-photon excess emission change from negative to positive and thus by appropriately selecting pump strength single-photon excess emission can be made negligible.

Abstract:Nonlinear two-photon interactions of an atomic system mediated by a thermal quantized electromagnetic field mode are investigated. We analyze the properties of the electromagnetic field inside the resonator mode. In particular, for a random particle injection rate we obtain an exact analytical solution for the steady state of the cavity field. The mean number of photons into the resonator mode is quite sensitive to the temperature. For larger atomic injection rates we find a suppression of the mean photon number into the quantized mode.

Abstract:We study the preparation of coherent quantum states in a two-photon micromaser for applications in quantum metrology. While this setting can be in principle realized in a host of physical systems, we consider atoms interacting with the field of a cavity. We focus on the case of the interaction described by the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian, which cannot be achieved by the conventional approach with three-level atoms coupled to the cavity field at two-photon resonance. We find that additional levels are required in order to cancel Stark shifts emerging in the leading order. Once this is accomplished, the dynamics of the cavity features a degenerate stationary state manifold of pure states. We derive the analytic form of these states and show that they include Schrödinger cat states with a tunable mean photon number. We also confirm these states can be useful in phase estimation protocols with their quantum Fisher information exceeding the standard limit. To account for realistic imperfections, we consider single-photon losses from the cavity, finite lifetime of atom levels, and higher order corrections in the far-detuned limit, which result in metastability of formerly stationary cavity states and long-time dynamics with a unique mixed stationary state. Despite being mixed, this stationary state can still feature quantum Fisher information above the standard limit. Our work delivers a comprehensive overview of the two-photon micromaser dynamics with particular focus on application in phase estimation and, while we consider the setup with atoms coupled to a cavity, the results can be directly translated to optomechanical systems.

Abstract:The present report deals with the condition under which an ensemble of atoms goes over into a regime of collective two-photon nutation, and with the behavior of Rabi frequency as function of external light. To simplify this problem, we consider a system of Λ-type atoms that enters into two-photon resonance with an external squeezed electromagnetic field relative to the forbidden transition ∣1> ∣2> , where ∣1> and ∣2> are ground and first exited states [1,2] The situation is examining, when the values of quantum fluctuations of electromagnetic field intensity have the same value as the mean value of electromagnetic field intensity. This is one of main difference between the our paper and [2]. The proposed mathematical model permits to take into account all the two-photon diagrams. These diagrams describe not only resonance two-photon transitions but two-photon scattering processes between ∣1> and ∣2> levels too. Using mathematical method which is proposed in [1,2] it is obtained the master equation for the atom subsystem. Two stationary solutions for the case when Rabi frequency is larger than the inverse value of the collective two-photon decay time and the case when external light is coherent are examined. It is showing that the absorption rate of an phase squeezed field is larger than the absorption rate of an amplitude squeezed light. We also obtained the behavior of inversion between the levels ∣1> and ∣2>, when the collective of atoms enters into two-photon resonance with external field.
Two-Photon Scattering by a Cavity-Coupled Two-Level Emitter in a One-Dimensional Waveguide

Abstract:We show that two-photon transport can be modulated by a two-level emitter coupled to a cavity in a one-dimensional waveguide. In the ordinary case, the transmitted light has a wider frequency spectrum than the situation without the cavity because it is reflected and scattered many times. But when the two photons are resonant with the cavity resonance reflection frequency, the frequency spectrum of the transmitted light becomes narrower than that without the cavity. This means that properly tuning the cavity resonance frequency can improve the photon-photon interaction. In addition, we show that the two-photon intensity correlation functions are nearly opposite to each other at the two sides of the emitter transition frequency rather than be the same, which is exactly the Fano resonance line shape for two photons. Such an effect is important for lowering the power threshold in optical bistable devices and for sensing applications. When the emitter transition frequency equals to the cavity resonance frequency for a high-Q cavity, our results agree with the recent experiments and theories.

Abstract:Two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) is a standard technique in modern microscopy but still affected by photo-damage of the probe. It was proposed that TPEF can be enhanced by using entangled photons, but has proven to be challenging. Recently it was shown that some features of entangled photons can be mimicked with thermal light, which finds application in ghost imaging, sub-wavelength lithography and metrology. Here, we utilize true thermal light from a super-luminescence diode to demonstrate enhanced TPEF compared to coherent light using two common fluorophores and luminescent quantum dots. We find that the two-photon absorption rate is directly proportional to the measured degree of second-order coherence, as predicted by theory. Our results show that photon bunching can be exploited in two-photon microscopy with the photon statistic providing a new degree of freedom.

Dissipative stabilization of maximal entanglement between non-identical emitters via two-photon excitation

Abstract:Two non-identical quantum emitters, when placed within a cavity and coherently excited at the two-photon resonance, can reach stationary states of nearly maximal entanglement. In Vivas-Viaña et al., we introduce a frequency-resolved Purcell effect stabilizing entangled $W$ states among strongly interacting quantum emitters embedded in a cavity. Here, we delve deeper into a specific configuration with a particularly rich phenomenology: two interacting quantum emitters under coherent excitation at the two-photon resonance. This scenario yields two resonant cavity frequencies where the combination of two-photon driving and Purcell-enhanced decay stabilizes the system into the sub- and superradiant states, respectively. By considering the case of non-degenerate emitters and exploring the parameter space of the system, we show that this mechanism is merely one among a complex family of phenomena that can generate both stationary and metastable entanglement when driving the emitters at the two-photon resonance. We provide a global perspective of this landscape of mechanisms and contribute analytical characterizations and insights into these phenomena, establishing connections with previous reports in the literature and discussing how some of these effects can be optically detected.

Abstract:The role of spontaneous emission in the interaction between a two-level atom and a pumped microcavity in the strong-coupling regime is discussed. In particular, using a quantum Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate atomic spatial coherence. It is found that atomic spontaneous emission destroys the coherence between neighboring lattice sites, while cavity decay does not. Furthermore, our computation of the spatial coherence function shows that the in-site locality is little affected by the cavity decay but greatly depends on the cavity pump amplitude.

Abstract:The study of temporal coherence in a Bose-Einstein condensate of photons can be challenging, especially in the presence of correlations between the photonic modes. In this work, we use a microscopic, multimode model of photonic condensation inside a dye-filled microcavity and the quantum regression theorem, to derive an analytical expression for the equation of motion of the photon-photon correlation function. This allows us to derive the coherence time of the photonic modes and identify a nonmonotonic dependence of the temporal coherence of the condensed light with the cutoff frequency of the microcavity.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to realize a highly efficient solid state source of photon pairs using cavity-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) in a single quantum dot, where a single photon from pump pulse and two stokes photons from cavity mode drives the Raman transition. The Autler-Townes doublet, generated by using a resonant continuous wave laser between biexciton and exciton states, and two-photon-resonant transition through strongly coupled cavity mode are utilized to facilitate (1+2)type Raman transition in the quantum dot. We show in the case of weak pump although the probability of generating two photons in cavity mode is small without cavity damping but two-photon-resonant emission is enhanced by cavity damping within strong coupling regime. We also discuss spectrum of the generated photon pair and photon-photon correlations in the generated photon pair. The efficiency of two photon source could be more than 80\% in current experimental conditions.

Abstract:Two dimensional photon gases trapped in dye-filled microcavities can undergo thermalization and nearly ideal equilibrium Bose-Einstein condensation. However, they are inherently driven-dissipative systems that can exhibit an intricate interplay between the thermalizing influence of the environment given by the dye solution and the pump and loss processes driving the system out of equilibrium. We show that this interplay gives rise to a robust mechanism for two-mode emission, when the system is driven by an off-centered pump beam. Namely, after the system starts lasing in the dominantly pumped excited mode, in a second transition a photon condensate is formed in the ground mode, when the pump power is increased further. This effect is a consequence of the redistribution of excited dye molecules via the lasing mode in combination with thermalization. We propose to exploit this effect for engineering controlled two-mode emission and demonstrate that by tailoring the transverse potential landscape for the photons, the threshold pump power can be tuned by orders of magnitude.

Abstract:We investigate the multiphoton quantum dynamics of a leaking single-mode quantized cavity field coupled with a resonantly driven two-level system possessing permanent dipoles. The frequencies of the interacting subsystems being considered are very different, e.g., the microwave range for the cavity and the optical domain for the frequency of the two-level emitter, respectively. In this way, the emitter couples to the resonator mode only via its diagonal dipole moments. Furthermore, the generalized Rabi frequency resulting from the external coherent driving of the two-level subsystem is also assumed to be different from the resonator's frequency or its multiples. As a consequence, this highly dispersive interaction regime is responsible for the cavity multiphoton quantum dynamics and photon conversion from the optical to microwave range, respectively.

Abstract:Two-photon Rabi splitting in a cavity-dot system provides a basis lor multiqubit coherent control in a quantum photonic network. Here we report on two-photon Rabi splitting in a strongly coupled cavity-dot system. The quantum dot was grown intentionally large in size for a large oscillation strength and small biexciton binding energy. Both exciton and biexciton transitions couple to a high-quality-factor photonic crystal cavity with large coupling strengths over 130 mu eV. Furthermore, the small binding energy enables the cavity to simultaneously couple with two exciton states. Thereby, two-photon Rabi splitting between the biexciton and cavity is achieved, which can be well reproduced by theoretical calculations with quantum master equations.

Abstract:We investigate the resonant quantum dynamics of a laser-pumped real or artificial two-level single-atom system embedded in a leaking microcavity. We found that for stronger laser-atom-cavity couplings the generated microcavity photons exhibit larger steady-state correlations. In particular, the second- and third-order photon correlation functions are greater than the corresponding ones obtained for an incoherent light source, respectively. Furthermore, the emitted microcavity photon flux is enhanced in comparison to weaker coupling cases.
Thermo-optical spiking and mixed-mode oscillations in injected Kerr microcavities

Abstract:We investigate the nonlinear dynamics of vertically emitting Kerr microcavities under detuned optical injection, considering the impact of slow thermal effects. Our model integrates thermal detuning caused by refractive index shifts due to heating. Through numerical and analytical approaches, we uncover a rich spectrum of dynamical behaviors, including excitable thermo-optical pulses, mixed-mode oscillations, and chaotic spiking, governed by a higher-dimensional canard scenario. Introducing a long external feedback loop with time delays comparable to the microcavity photon lifetime but shorter than thermal relaxation timescales, reveals how delay affects excitability and stabilizes temporal localized states. Our findings extend the understanding of excitable systems, demonstrating how thermal and feedback mechanisms interplay to shape nonlinear optical dynamics. Further, our approach paves the way for the study of cavity stabilization and cavity cooling using an additional control beam.

Abstract:The coupling of two-level quantum systems to the thermal environment is a fundamental problem, with applications ranging from qubit state preparation to spin models. However, for the elementary problem of the thermodynamics of an ensemble of bosons populating a two-level system despite its conceptual simplicity experimental realizations are scarce. Using an optical dye microcavity platform, we thermalize photons in a two-mode system with tunable chemical potential, demonstrating N bosons populating a two-level system coupled to a heat bath. Under pulsed excitation, Josephson oscillations between the two quantum states demonstrate the possibility for coherent manipulation. In contrast, under stationary conditions the thermalization of the two-mode system is observed. As the energetic splitting between eigenstates is two orders of magnitude smaller than thermal energy, at low occupations an almost equal distribution of the modes occupation is observed, as expected from Boltzmann statistics. For larger occupation, we observe efficient population of the ground state and saturation of the upper level at high filling, expected from quantum statistics. Our experiment holds promise for state preparation in quantum technologies as well as for quantum thermodynamics studies.

Abstract:The description model of the multiple scattering lasers using the superposition states between the generated photons in the ensemble of bi-modes of the resonator field, we introduced a concept of indistinguishable energy portions generated in the resonator following multiple scattering. Each of these quasi-quanta has energy equal to the difference between the pumping and scattering quantum energies at each step of multiple scattering. The conversion of the photons in the external electromagnetic mode of the resonator destroys this cooperative correlation between the bi-modes and established conservation lows during the cooperative emission. The master equation containing two parameters connected with the gain of quasi-energy portions, and their annihilation due to the losses from the resonator, is proposed. The competition between these two processes is numerically studied. An attractive problem is connected with established quantum correlations between the photons belonging to non-adjacent modes of the cavity. The time behavior of the evolution of correlations between such modes is observed. This conception may be used for the teleportation of information in other modes during the multiple Raman conversion.
