Abstract:For successful integration of the HLA federation consisting of a number of federates that represent correlative objectives and separate simulation functional components, all federates must be tested to ensure that these federates' responsibilities will satisfy federation requirements. Therefore, development and deployment of federation require a set of test scenarios for every federate, in which federate compliance testing and performance testing are performed manually. Particularly because scalability and input domain explosion make it impossible to exhaustively test all federates, conducting such testing requires large expenditures of time and personnel. In order to reduce the number of personnel and amount of time required to these federates' test, this paper applies Markov chain usage models to provide quantitative support for test planning and test manager and presents automated testing techniques, which combine federate compliance testing with performance testing necessary to ensure the validation of Federate Under Test (FUT) and log information concerning interactions and object representations necessary to verify the proper execution of the test scenario. Based on the automated testing techniques and the application of Markov chain usage model in test process, improvements are being made to the Integration and Test phase of the FEDEP and to the software that supports it.
