Abstract:The hadron mass spectrum is calculated in lattice QCD using a novel fat-link clover fermion action in which only the irrelevant operators in the fermion action are constructed using smeared links. The simulations are performed on a 16(3)x32 lattice with a lattice spacing of a=0.125 fm. We compare actions with n=4 and 12 smearing sweeps with a smearing fraction of 0.7. The n=4 fat-link irrelevant clover (FLIC) action provides scaling which is superior to mean-field improvement, and offers advantages over nonperturbative O(a) improvement, including a reduced exceptional configuration problem.

Abstract:The dominant theoretical uncertainties in both the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and the value of the electromagnetic coupling at the Z scale, M(Z), arise from their hadronic contributions. Since these will ultimately dominate the experimental errors, we study the correlation between them, as well as with other fundamental parameters. To this end we present analytical formulas for the QCD contribution from higher energies and from heavy quarks. Including these correlations affects the Higgs boson mass extracted from precision data.

Abstract:The Fat-Link Irrelevant Clover (FLIC) fermion action provides a new form of nonperturbative O(a)-improvement in lattice fermion actions offering near continuum results at finite lattice spacing. It provides computationally inexpensive access to the light quark mass regime of QCD where chiral nonanalytic behaviour associated with Goldstone bosons is revealed. The motivation and formulation of FLIC fermions, its excellent scaling properties and its low-lying hadron mass phenomenology are presented.

The results are in agreement with earlier calculations of N^* resonances using improved actions and exhibit a clear mass splitting between the nucleon and its chiral partner, even for the Wilson fermion action. The results also indicate a splitting between the lowest J^P = 1/2^- states for the two standard nucleon interpolating fields.

Abstract:Hadron masses are calculated in quenched lattice QCD in order to probe the scaling behavior of a novel fat-link clover fermion action in which only the irrelevant operators of the fermion action are constructed using APE-smeared links. Light quark masses corresponding to an m_pi / m_rho ratio of 0.35 are considered to assess the exceptional configuration problem of clover-fermion actions. This Fat-Link Irrelevant Clover (FLIC) fermion action provides scaling which is superior to mean-field improvement and offers advantages over nonperturbative improvement, including reduced exceptional configurations.

Abstract:The formation of hadrons is a fundamental process in nature that can be investigated at particle colliders. Given their large mass, heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are produced only in initial hard-scatterings, prior to hadronisation, which determines instead the relative abundances and the kinematics of the various heavy-flavour hadron species. As several recent findings demonstrate, with \ee collisions as a "vacuum-like" reference at one extreme, and central AA as a dense, extended-size system characterised by flow and local equilibrium at the opposite extreme, different collision systems offer a lever arm that can be exploited to probe with a range of heavy-flavour hadron species the onset of various hadronisation processes. In these proceedings, a selection of the experimental results related to heavy-flavour hadronisation shown for the first time at the Hard Probes 2023 conference is presented together with some of the most important ones of the last years. The focus is on open-heavy flavour measurements. The comparison with model predictions and connections among the results in \ee, proton--proton, proton--nucleus, nucleus--nucleus collisions are discussed.

Abstract:We present results on hadron masses and quark condensate from Neuberger's overlap fermion. The scaling and chiral properties and finite volume effects from this new Dirac operator are studied. We find that the generalized Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation is well satisfied down to the physical u and d quark mass range. We find that in the range of the lattice spacing we consider, the π and ϱ masses at a fixed mπ/mϱ ratio have weak O(a2) dependence.

Abstract:The vast bulk of visible mass emerges from nonperturbative dynamics within quantum chromodynamics (QCD) -- the strong interaction sector of the Standard Model. The past decade has revealed the three pillars that support this emergent hadron mass (EHM); namely, a nonzero gluon mass-scale, a process-independent effective charge, and dressed-quarks with constituent-like masses. Theory is now working to expose their manifold and diverse expressions in hadron observables and highlighting the types of measurements that can be made in order to validate the paradigm. In sketching some of these developments, this discussion stresses the role of EHM in forming nucleon electroweak structure and the wave functions of excited baryons through the generation of dynamical diquark correlations; producing and constraining the dilation of the leading-twist pion distribution amplitude; shaping pion and nucleon parton distribution functions -- valence, glue and sea, including the antisymmetry of antimatter; and moulding pion and proton charge and mass distributions.

Abstract:The recent tension between local and early measurements of the Hubble constant can be explained in a particle physics context. A mechanism is presented where this tension is alleviated due to the presence of a Majoron, arising from the spontaneous breaking of Lepton Number. The lightness of the active neutrinos is consistently explained. Moreover, this mechanism is shown to be embeddable in the Minimal (Lepton) Flavour Violating context, providing a correct description of fermion masses and mixings, and protecting the flavour sector from large deviations from the Standard Model predictions. A QCD axion is also present to solve the Strong CP problem. The Lepton Number and the Peccei-Quinn symmetries naturally arise in the Minimal (Lepton) Flavour Violating setup and their spontaneous breaking is due to the presence of two extra scalar singlets. The Majoron phenomenology is also studied in detail. Decays of the heavy neutrinos and the invisible Higgs decay provide the strongest constraints in the model parameter space.

Abstract:We discuss weak coupling perturbation theory for lattice actions in which the fermions couple to smeared gauge links. The normally large integrals that appear in lattice perturbation theory are drastically reduced. Even without detailed calculation, it is easy to determine to good accuracy the scale of the logarithms that appear in cases where an anomalous dimension is present. We describe several 1-loop examples for fat-link Wilson and clover fermions. including the additive mass shift, the relation between the lattice and MSbar quark masses, and the axial current renormalization factor ($Z_A$) for light-light and static-light currents.

Abstract:We present 5 GHz high resolution VLA observations of 2,127 radio- and X-ray-emitting sources found in both the Green Bank (GB) 5 GHz radio catalog and the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS). We report core flux densities and positions accurate to +/-0.5". Combined with the GB measuremens of the total radio emission, we derive the core-to-lobe ratio of objects in our sample and discuss their core-dominance relative to samples of radio galaxies and BL Lacertae objects. Our results show the ROSAT/GreenBank (RGB) sample is approximately an order of magnitude more core-dominated than the radio galaxy sample, but is more than an order of magnitude less core-dominated than highly beamed BL Lacertae object samples. Using simple beaming models, this indicates the typical object in the RGB catalog exhibits beamed radio emission and is oriented at a modest angle to the line-of-sight (theta ~ 25-30 degrees). The case of the origin of the X-ray emission is not as clear; the data are consistent with either an anisotropic unbeamed or moderately beamed X-ray component.

Abstract:Heavy-flavor hadrons produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are a sensitive probe for studying hadronization mechanisms of the quark-gluon-plasma. In this work, we survey how different transport models for the simulation of heavy-quark diffusion through a quark-gluon plasma in heavy-ion collisions implement hadronization and how this affects final-state observables. Utilizing the same input charm-quark distribution in all models at the hadronization transition, we find that the transverse-momentum dependence of the nuclear modification factor of various charm hadron species has significant sensitivity to the hadronization scheme. In addition, the charm-hadron elliptic flow exhibits a nontrivial dependence on the elliptic flow of the hadronizing partonic medium.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to calculate the masses of hadrons without orbital momentum. It is hypothized the Kaluza-Klein like model does deliver results in particle physics complementing those of the Standard Model of particle physics. For this paper a Kaluza-Klein like model was developed based on the structure of the Standard Model. The model consists of 10 dimensions which are: one time, three usual macroscopic space and six compactified dimensions. Excitations - disturbances traveling with the speed of light on the 10D-spacetime - are introduced. An excitation on a compactified dimension can induce a mass in 4D-spacetime; it is accompanied by an integer, the excitation number, and has a well-defined spin. The model's parameters are determined using electron's g-factor and the measured masses of the charged leptons, the proton, the neutron, the mesons $\pi^{+}, \phi, \psi, \Upsilon$. So far, exact formulas for calculating hadron masses were not derived. The approximate formulas, however, are reported and applied to about one hundred composite particles, which are compiled within four separate tables. The comparison between the measured masses of 64 hadrons and the approximations shows relative errors below $0.05$ for 55\% and below $0.1$ in 81\% of all cases. Pearson's correlation coefficient of masses measured versus calculated is $r=0.998$. The results of another 36 hadron masses, not yet experimentally determined, are stated. For a better assessment of the presented model's validity, and in addition to the paper's original purpose, the strong, electric, and weak forces were calculated. These forces together with other derived parameters are discussed and compared with measurements or values from the standard model of particle physics.

Abstract:We present first results for masses of spin-3/2 baryons in lattice QCD, using a novel fat-link clover fermion action in which only the irrelevant operators are constructed using fat links. In the isospin-1/2 sector, we observe, after appropriate spin and parity projection, a strong signal for the J^P=3/2^- state, and find good agreement between the 1/2^+ mass and earlier nucleon mass simulations with a spin-1/2 interpolating field. For the isospin-3/2 Delta states, clear mass splittings are observed between the various 1/2^+/- and 3/2^+/- channels, with the calculated level orderings in good agreement with those observed empirically.

Abstract:This paper concerns a method of describing hadrons that starts with the canonical front form Hamiltonian of QCD. The method is developed in the relatively simple context of QCD with only heavy quarks. We regulate its canonical Hamiltonian by introducing a vanishingly small gluon mass mg . For positive mg , the small- x gluon divergences become ultraviolet and hence they are renormalized in the same way the ultraviolet transverse divergences are. This is done using the renormalization group procedure for effective particles. Up to the second order of expansion of the renormalized Hamiltonian in powers of the quark-gluon coupling constant g , only the quark mass-squared and gluon-exchange divergences require counterterms. In these circumstances, we calculate an effective potential between quarks in heavy quarkonia in an elementary way, replacing all the quarkonium-state components with gluons of mass mg by only one component with just one gluon that is assigned a mass mG , comparable to or exceeding the scale of typical relative momenta of bound quarks. In the limit of mg→0 and large mG two results are obtained. (1) While the color-singlet quarkonium mass eigenvalue stays finite and physically reasonable in that limit, the eigenvalues for single quarks and octet quarkonia are infinite. (2) Besides the coulomb terms, the effective quark-antiquark potential is quadratic as a function of the distance and spherically symmetric for typical separations between quarks but becomes logarithmic and no longer spherically symmetric for large separations.
