Abstract:For an arbitrary Lévy process X which is not a compound Poisson process, we are interested in its occupation times. We use a quite novel and useful approach to derive formulas for the Laplace transform of the joint distribution of X and its occupation times. Our formulas are compact, and more importantly, the forms of the formulas clearly demonstrate the essential quantities for the calculation of occupation times of X. It is believed that our results are important not only for the study of stochastic processes, but also for financial applications.

Abstract:For refracted spectrally negative Lévy processes, we identify expressions for several quantities related to the Laplace transforms of their weighted occupation times until first exit times. Such quantities are expressed in terms of the unique solutions to integral equations involving weight functions and scale functions for the associated spectrally negative Lévy processes. Previous results on refracted Lévy processes are recovered.

Abstract:We consider a refracted jump diffusion process having two-sided jumps with rational Laplace transforms. For such a process, by applying a straightforward but interesting approach, we derive formulae for the Laplace transform of its distribution. Our formulae are presented in an attractive form and the approach is novel. In particular, the idea in the application of an approximating procedure is remarkable. In addition, the results are used to price variable annuities with state-dependent fees.

Abstract:This paper proposes estimators for the parameters of an explosive fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. The asymptotic properties for the diffusion estimators are developed under the in-fill asymptotic scheme, while the asymptotic properties for the drift estimators are developed under the double asymptotic scheme for the full range of the Hurst parameter. The double asymptotic distribution of the estimator of the persistency parameter explicitly depends on the initial condition. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimators, and the asymptotic distributions provide a good approximation in finite samples. An empirical application is presented to demonstrate the model's usefulness and the practical value of the asymptotic theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete and succinct proof that an explicit formula for the occupation time holds for all Lévy processes, which is important to the pricing problems of various occupation-time-related derivatives such as step options and corridor options. We construct a sequence of Lévy processes converging to a given Lévy process to obtain our conclusion. Besides financial applications, the mathematical results about occupation times of a Lévy process are of interest in applied probability.

Abstract:This paper studies the first passage times to constant boundaries for mixed-exponential jump diffusion processes. Explicit solutions of the Laplace transforms of the distribution of the first passage times, the joint distribution of the first passage times and undershoot (overshoot) are obtained. As applications, we present explicit expression of the Gerber-Shiu functions for surplus processes with two-sided jumps, present the analytical solutions for popular path-dependent options such as lookback and barrier options in terms of Laplace transforms, and give a closed-form expression on the price of the zero-coupon bond under a structural credit risk model with jumps.
A Computational Approach to First Passage Problems of Reflected Hyper-Exponential Jump Diffusion Processes

Abstract:The extant literature on first passage problems of reflected hyper-exponential jump diffusion processes (RHEPs) lacks efficiently computable formulae for the Laplace transform of the joint distribution of the RHEP and its first passage time, cumulative distribution function of the overshoot, expected cumulative value of the discounted increments of the local time up to the first passage time, expected cumulative discounted value of the RHEP up to the first passage time, and expectation of the first passage time. We combine numerical solutions to ordinary integro-differential equations and martingale methods in a novel manner to derive such expressions. For some of these quantities, our approach can deal with the subtle case in which both the RHEP's overall drift and the discount rate equal zero. As a by-product, we obtain a formula for the Laplace transform of the RHEP transition density. We illustrate the numerical performance of our methodology through a few examples. We observe that when the RHEP's overall drift and the discount rate are very close to zero rounding errors can make the evaluation of some of our formulae unreliable. In these situations our exact expression for the case of both zero RHEP's overall drift and discount rate can be an effective approximation for the quantities in question that is substantially more efficient than reliably calculating them using their exact expressions and ``Multiprecision Computing." Our research has applications in financial engineering, insurance, economics, and queueing.

This allows for instance to interpret some Gaussian fields, such as the Gaussian Free Fields as (properly normalized) fluctuations of the total occupation time of a Poisson cloud of Brownian excursions when the intensity of the cloud goes to infinity.

Abstract:S. G. Kou and H. Wang [First Passage times of a Jump Diffusion Process \textit{Ann. Appl. Probab.} {\bf 35} (2003) 504--531] give expressions of both the (real) Laplace transform of the distribution of first passage time and the (real) Laplace transform of the joint distribution of the first passage time and the running maxima of a jump-diffusion model called Kou model. %However, to invert the last Laplace transform it is needed Kuo and Wang invert the first Laplace transform by using Gaver-Stehfest algorithm, and the inversion of second one involves a large computing time with an algebra computer system. In the present paper, we give a much simpler expression of the Laplace transform of the joint distribution, and we also show, using Complex Analysis techniques, that both Laplace transform can be extended to the complex plane. Hence, we can use variants of the Fourier-series methods to invert that Laplace transfoms, which are very efficent. The improvement in the computing times and accuracy is remarkable.

Abstract:For a refracted spectrally negative Levy process, we find some new and fantastic formulas for its q-potential measures without killing. Unlike previous results, which are written in terms of the known q-scale functions, our formulas are free of the q-scale functions. This makes our results become extremely important since it is likely that our formulas also hold for a general refracted Levy process.

Abstract:In this paper, we firstly give a reconstruction for Crump-Mode-Jagers processes with immigration as solutions to a class of stochastic Volterra integral equations, which offers us a new insight for the evolution dynamics of age-dependent population. Based on this new representation, we prove the weak convergence of rescaled Crump-Mode-Jagers processes with immigration to a class of continuous-state branching processes with immigration. Moreover, the limits reveal that the individual law mainly changes the branching mechanism and immigration mechanism proportionally. This covers the results obtained by Lambert et al. [35] for subcritical binary Crump-Mode-Jagers processes.

Abstract:We propose an approach to approximate the boundary crossing probabilities for general one-dimensional diffusion processes, and derive the convergence rate for this approximation scheme. There results are based on the explicit expression of the Laplace transforms of the first passage densities for diffusions with piecewise linear drifts. The proposed method is applied to a reliability problem where the standard degradation model based on Wiener process is extended to diffusion processes with piecewise linear drifts.

Abstract:The abrupt changes that are ubiquitous in physical and natural systems are often well characterized by shot noise with a state dependent recurrence frequency and jump amplitude. For such state dependent behavior, we derive the transition probability for both the Itô and Stratonovich jump interpretations, and subsequently use the transition probability to pose a master equation for the jump process. For exponentially distributed inputs, we present a novel class of transient solutions, as well as a generic steady state solution in terms of a potential function and the Pope-Ching formula. These new results allow us to describe state dependent jumps in a double well potential for steady state particle dynamics, as well as transient salinity dynamics forced by state dependent jumps. Both examples showcase a stochastic description that is more general than the limiting case of Brownian motion to which the jump process defaults in the limit of infinitely frequent and small jumps. Accordingly, our analysis may be used to explore a continuum of stochastic behavior from infrequent, large jumps to frequent, small jumps approaching a diffusion process.
