Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as a new platform for the construction of various functional materials for energy related applications. Here, a facile MOF templating method is developed to fabricate a hierarchical nickel-cobalt sulfide nanosheet array on conductive Ni foam (Ni-Co-S/NF) as a binder-free electrode for supercapacitors. A uniform 2D Co-MOF nanowall array is first grown in situ on Ni foam in aqueous solution at room temperature, and then the Co-MOF nanowalls are converted into hierarchical Ni-Co-S nanoarchitectures via an etching and ion-exchange reaction with Ni(NO3)(2), and a subsequent solvothermal sulfurization. Taking advantage of the compositional and structural merits of the hierarchical Ni-Co-S nanosheet array and conductive Ni foam, such as fast electron transportation, short ion diffusion path, abundant active sites and rich redox reactions, the obtained Ni-Co-S/NF electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical capacitive performance (1406.9 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1), 53.9% retention at 10 A g(-1) and 88.6% retention over 1000 cycles), which is superior to control CoS/NF. An asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) assembled by using the as-fabricated Ni-Co-S/NF as the positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as the negative electrode delivers a high energy density of 24.8 W h kg(-1) at a high power density of 849.5 W kg(-1). Even when the power density is as high as 8.5 kW kg(-1), the ASC still exhibits a high energy density of 12.5 W h kg(-1). This facile synthetic strategy can also be extended to fabricate other hierarchical integrated electrodes for high-efficiency electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices.
Rapid Synthesis of Mn-Doped NiFe2O4 Nanosheet Arrays for High-Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors

Abstract:This research presents an innovative approach to the in-situ fabrication of Mn-doped NiFe2O4 (Mn-NiFe2O4) nanosheet arrays directly on nickel foam substrates. The formation of precursors on the nickel foam substrates is achieved through spontaneous corrosion, followed by a thermal treatment to form the Mn-NiFe2O4 nanosheet arrays. The material's structure and morphology were thoroughly examined, revealing that the addition of Mn transforms the nanoporous structure on the nickel foam into a nanosheet structure. The average thickness of the nanosheets is 30 nm, and their primary composition is Mn-doped NiFe2O4. The resulting highly porous structure of these nanosheets provides numerous active sites and effective electron and ion diffusion channels, thereby increasing charge density and mechanical stability. Electrochemical assays show that the areal-specific capacity of the synthesized electrode material reaches 4.34 C cm(-2) (areal-specific capacitance is 8.68 F cm(-2)) at 1 mA cm(-2). Notably, the constructed hybrid supercapacitor achieves a power density of 544 mu W cm(-2) at an energy density of 390 mu Wh cm(-2). Furthermore, capacitance retention is 95.2% after 5000 charging cycles. Additionally, the assembled device delivers robust and sustained energy output for LED displays and electric toy cars. This method streamlines the production flow of electrode materials, reducing energy consumption while significantly enhancing the areal capacitance of supercapacitors. The assembled hybrid supercapacitor structure diagram and the assembled devices provide power sources for electric toy cars and LED displays.

Abstract:A hierarchical NiO/NiMn-LDH nanosheet array on Ni foam was prepared via a facile two-step approach and exhibited a high specific capacitance (937 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1)) and good cycling stability (91% retention after 1000 cycles at 5 A g(-1)). The improved electro-chemical performance is benefited from the synergistic properties of hierarchical NiO/LDH nanosheet composites on a conductive substrate.
Construction of Hierarchical 2D PANI/Ni3S2 Nanosheet Arrays on Ni Foam for High-Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:In this work, a hierarchical 2D polyaniline (PANI)/Ni3S2 nanosheet arrays on Ni foam (NF) with open network was successfully developed by the growth of Ni3S2 nanosheet arrays derived from 2D Ni-MOF templates followed by the electrodeposition of a layer of PANI nanoflakes. The as-prepared PANI/Ni3S2/NF was served as self-standing supercapacitor electrode. The optimized PANI/Ni3S2/NF-100 electrode exhibits a high areal capacity of 1.56 mA h cm(-2) (487.5 mA h g(-1)) at 5 mA cm(-2) and good rate capability (57.7 % retention at 50 mA cm(-2)), which significantly outperforms individual PANI/NF or Ni3S2/NF. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor fabricated by PANI/Ni3S2/NF-100 and activated carbon electrodes can deliver a high energy density of 48.3 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 799.8 W kg(-1) with outstanding durability (85.7 % retention of the initial capacity) during 15000 consecutive charge-discharge cycles. The superior electrochemical performance of PANI/Ni3S2/NF-100 is attributed to the unique hierarchical PANI/Ni3S2 nanosheet arrays structure. Firstly, the hierarchical open network facilitates the electrolyte ions transport. Secondly, the ultrathin 2D Ni3S2 nanosheets lead to abundant electroactive sites for the Faradaic process, and the conductive PANI layer builds superb highway for fast electron transfer. Thirdly, the free-standing electrode enables fast redox reaction and low interfacial resistance. Finally, the synergetic effect of Ni3S2 and PANI also contributes to the enhanced capacity.
Hierarchical Structure Electrodes of NiO Ultrathin Nanosheets Anchored to NiCo2O4 on Carbon Cloth with Excellent Cycle Stability for Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:To fabricate free-standing electrodes with hierarchical structured redox-type metal oxides has become a wise strategy for the development of high-performance energy storage systems. Two types of NiCo2O4 with needle-like and slice-like morphologies act as the conducting cores and hydrothermally grow on carbon cloth (CC/NiCo2O4-N and CC/NiCo2O4-S). The mesoporous NiO ultrathin nanosheets further are anchored on the surface of the two types of CC/NiCo2O4 to form the novel high-performance electrodes (CC/NiCo2O4-N@0NiO and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO). Particularly, the formation mechanism of NiO ultrathin nanosheets is proposed. The two integrated electrodes of CC/NiCo2O4-N@NiO and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO exhibit high specific capacitance of 921.9 and 852.9 mF/cm(2) (or 709.1 and 775.1 F/g) at 2 mA/cm(2), respectively and excellent long cycling lifespan (both 100% retention after 10,000 cycles). The assembled asymmetric supercapacitors, CC/NiCo2O4-N@NiO//graphene and CC/NiCo2O4-S@NiO//graphene, can still deliver the high energy density and power density, and possess excellent cycling stability (95.2% and 92.3% retention after 10,000 cycles, respectively). Our work not only provides an attractive strategy and a two-step facile method for construction of hierarchical electrodes based on ultrathin NiO sheets and nanostructured NiCo2O4, but also offers a strategy for high-performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:We present a novel approach for hierarchical fabrication of high-performance, all-solid-state, flexible supercapacitors from environmentally friendly all-carbon materials. Three-dimensional carbon nanotube/carbon cloth network (CNT/CC) is used as a conductive, flexible and free-standing scaffold for the electro-deposition of highly N/O co-doped graphene quantum dots to form the high-activity, all-carbon electrodes. The hierarchical structure of the CNT/CC network with high electrical conductivity and high surface area provides improved conductive pathways for the efficient activation of GQDs with high pseudocapacitance and electrical double layer capacitance. The obtained N-O-GQD/CNT/CC electrodes for all-solid-state flexible supercapacitors exhibit an ultrahigh areal capacitance of up to 461 mF cm (2) at a current density of 0.5 mA cm (2), while keeping high rate and cyclic performances. Abstract:In this work, we synthesized: the hierarchical ZnO@C@NiO core shell nanorods arrays (CSNAs). grown on a carbon cloth (CC) conductive substrate by a three-step Method involving, hydrothermal and chemical bath methods. The morphology and chemical structure of the hybrid nanoarrays were characterized in detail. The combination and formation mechanism was proposed. The conducting carbon layer between. ZnO and NiO layers can efficiently enhance the electric conductivity of the integrated electrodes, and also protea the corrosion of ZnO in an alkaline solution. Compared with ZnO@NiO nanorods arrays (NAs), the NiO in CC/ZnO@C@NiO electrodes, which possess a unique multilevel core-shell nanostructure exhibits a higher specific capacity (677 C/g at 1.43 A/g) and an enhanced cycling stability (capacity remain 71% after 5000 cycles), on account of the protection of carbon layer derived from glucose. Additionally, a flexible all-solid-state supercapacitor is readily constructed by coating the PVA/KOH gel electrolyte between the ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs and commercial graphene. The energy density of this all-solid-state device decreases from 35.7 to 16.0 Wh/kg as the power density increases from 380.9 to 2704.2 W/kg with an excellent cycling stability (87.5% of the initial capacitance after 10000 cycles). Thereby; the CC/ZnO@C@NiO CSNAs of three-dimensional hierarchical structure is promising electrode materials for flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors.
High-Performance Ni-Co Sulfide Nanosheet-Nanotubes Grown on Ni Foam As a Binder Free Electrode for Supercapacitors

Abstract:The novel hierarchical Ni-Co sulfide nanosheet-nanotubes arrays were directly grown on Ni foam, as binder-free electrodes, have been successfully synthesized following a one-step facile hydrothermal method combined with a sulfide treatment. The initial value of the area capacitance achieved 2.28 F cm−2 at a current density of 1 mA cm−2. A high areal capacitance retention of 95.2% compared to activation-induced peak value is achieved after 3000 charge-discharge cycles, which is much better than counter Ni-Co oxide electrode (1.75 F cm−2 at 1 mA cm−2, 93.2% retention compared to activation induced peak value). The outstanding and excellent super capacitive performance is ascribed to ion-exchange reaction, which induces a flexible hollow nanotube feature and show higher conductivity, compared with Ni-Co oxide NWs. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and Electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) results confirmed that the synthesized electrode contains the lowest resistance at high, and at lower frequency, leading to easy penetration of electrolytes and fast transportation of electrons inside the electrode. In this proposed work, a one-step hydrothermal method has been followed, and provided for the sulfide-induced, with a noticeable electrochemical performance of nickel cobaltite compounds and supplying a promising route for high-performance supercapacitor electrodes.

Abstract:A novel heterogenous Co3O4-nanocube/Co(OH)2-nanosheet hybrid is prepared by a controllable facile one-pot hydrothermal reaction. The resulting Co3O4 nanocubes are highly uniform in morphology, and are distributed uniformly on the individual Co(OH)2 nanosheets. Such unique nanostructural features show significant advantages for applications as flexible supercapacitor electrodes in terms of enhanced durability and capacitance. The as-prepared electrode has offered a large capacitance of 1164Fg−1 at 1.2Ag−1. When being paired with activated carbon, the resulting flexible all-solid-state device exhibited a maximum energy density of 9.4 mWh cm−3. It is worthwhile noting that this as-assembled device showed little capacitance decay after over 5000 cycles with 97.4% retention of its original specific capacitance. Such a high performance outperforms most metal oxides-based electrodes and shows the advantages of the hybrid strategy, which shed light on exploring robust and cheap electrode materials for high-performance flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract:Rationally constructing the electrode with the hierarchical structure, different components, and the flexibility is a promising approach to further improve the electrochemical properties and meet the demand for flexible electronic devices. In this paper, for the first time, hafnium carbide nanowires (HfCNWs) networks, with the metrics of large specific surface area, excellent conductivity, and chemical/physical stability, are served as nanoscale conductive skeletons on carbon cloth (CC) for supporting the porous NiCo2O4 nanosheets (NSs). Benefiting from the structural advantages, the as-formed free-standing core-shell NiCo2O4NSs@HfCNWs/CC exhibits a high specific capacitance of 2102 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1, good rate capability (85% capacitance retention at 20 A g-1) and outstanding cycling stability (98% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles at 10 A g-1). Additionally, assembled with the NiCo2O4NSs@HfCNWs/CC and activated carbon (AC)/CC, the flexible solid-state hybrid supercapacitor displays a high energy density of 53 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 800 W kg-1 and excellent performance stability with good flexibility. More impressively, our work could not only further widen the application of HfCNWs, but also put forward the new thinking of rational construction of high-performance flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract:In order to further overcome the shortage of electrodes with additive/binder and modulate the structure of NiCo2O4 for supercapacitors, ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanosheet arrays have been in situ grown on Ni foam by optimizing hydrothermal reactions based on crystal growth dynamics. The structure of ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanosheet arrays can expose more active sites, provide abundant diffusion channels and buffer the stress caused by phase transition during charge–discharge process of supercapacitors. The optimized hydrothermal reactions can provide more ordered crystal orientations by keeping nanosheets on Ni foam completely coming from in situ growth, which will decrease the inner resistance of ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanosheets and improve the efficiency and kinetics of electrons transfer. By the virtue of such remarkable features, the electrochemical results confirm the rationality of structural modulation and crystal orientations optimization with a drastically enhanced specific capacitance of 2017.8 F g−1, admirable rate performance of 93.2% and outstanding stability retention of 90.9% after cycling 5000 times. More impressively, the assembled flexible solid‐state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) shows superior energy density, power density, and high stability. The modification strategy in this paper may throw light on the rational design of new generation advanced electrode materials for high‐performance flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract:In the filamentous fungus Aspergillus fumigatus, the vast majority of the cell-wall-associated proteins are secreted proteins that are in transit in the cell wall. These proteins can be solubilized by detergents and reducing agents. Incubation of a SDS/beta-mercaptoethanol-treated cell-wall extract with various recombinant enzymes that hydrolyse cell-wall polysaccharides resulted in the release of a unique protein in minute amounts only after incubation of the cell wall in the presence of 1,3-beta-glucanase. Sequence analysis and biochemical studies showed that this glycoprotein, with an apparent molecular mass of 80 kDa, was an acid phosphatase (PhoAp) that was active on both phosphate monoesters and phosphate diesters. PhoAp is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein that was recovered in the culture filtrate and cell-wall fraction of A. fumigatus after cleavage of its anchor. It is also a phosphate-repressible acid phosphatase. The absence of PhoAp from a phosphate-rich medium was not associated with a reduction in fungal growth, indicating that this cell-wall-associated protein does not play a role in the morphogenesis of A. fumigatus.

Abstract:Hierarchical 3D-porous NiCo2S4@Ni(OH)(2) core-shell structure on carbon cloth has been successfully grown through a facile and inexpensive solution process. The interconnected NiCo2S4 flower-like nanosheets serve as a robust conductive scaffold to accelerate ion/electron transportation. Further, the uniform growth of Ni(OH)(2) nanopetals over the NiCo2S4 nanosheets enlarge the superficial area for electrochemical reaction, which affords the extra pseudocapacitance. The core-shell hierarchical NiCo2S4@Ni(OH)(2) electrodes deliver a remarkably higher specific capacity of 404.2 mAh g(-1) at a current density of 2 A g(-1). Furthermore, the NiCo2S4@Ni(OH)(2)//AC asymmetric supercapacitor device delivers a high energy density of 83 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 817 W kg(-1), and excellent cycle stability of 97% even after 6000 cycles. Abstract:Ni(OH)(2) nanosheets (NSs) were grown onto an electrochemically activated carbon cloth (ECC) with a self-supported microstructure by using efficient ethanol assisted supercritical deposition method. Benefited from the structural features of the well-developed porous architecture with effective channels for electrolyte ions diffusion and accessible redox sites, the nano-heterostructure brings a high utilization of electroactive material and thereby good electrochemical performance. The specific capacity of 918 mC cm(-2) at 2 mA cm(-2) with good rate performance (68.4 % retention at 20 mA cm(-2)) was achieved for the obtained Ni(OH)(2) NSs/ECC flexible electrode. The assembled flexible solid-state device with a 1.8 V operating potential displays an energy density of 8.3 mW h cm(-3) at 20 mW cm(-3). Additionally, the asfabricated device reveals cyclic stability with 87 % capacity retention (10,000 cycles at 50 mA cm(-2)). These results show the importance of supercritical fluid deposition as a potential method for supercapacitors electrode. (C) 2020 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract:Based on carbon cloth, flexible solid-state supercapacitors from bimetal oxide arrays of NiCo2O4@NiMoO4 deposited by conductive polymers of polyaniline (PANI) are prepared employing a two-step hydrothermal reaction, followed by high-temperature annealing and an in-situ polymerization process. The presence of NiMoO4 nanoplates prepared on NiCo2O4 nanowhires leads to the hierarchical flower-like nanostructures. In order to further enhance the conductivity and wettability, NiCo2O4@NiMoO4 is coated by the three-dimensional networks of PANI nanorods by means of the in-situ polymerization of aniline, the obtained NiCo2O4@NiMoO4/PANI nanocomposites illustrate a specific hierarchical holothurian-like morphology, which facilitates the adsorption and penetration as well as the rapid transportation of electrolyte ions within the nanopores in the active electrode materials, resulting in excellent electrochemical performances. The specific areal capacitance of the flexible carbon cloth-based electrodes reaches 2.38 F cm(-2) at current density 1.0 mA cm(-2), and the capacitance retention is 92.36% of the initial value after 5000 cycles, which finds applications in flexible and wearable devices. Abstract:NiO hierarchical hollow nanofibers (hhNFs) consisting of nanosized NiO particles have been synthesized with electrospun poly(amic acid) nanofiber templates through a simple ion-exchange process and subsequent thermal annealing. By virtue of the hierarchical porous fiber-like morphology, as confirmed by the microstructure analysis, the hhNFs possess dense ion transportation channels, interconnected electron diffusion paths, as well as good structure stability, which are conducive to electrochemical capacitor (i.e., supercapacitor) applications. Electrochemical measurements have validated the excellent electrochemical performance of as-prepared hhNFs, including a high specific capacitance of 700 F g(-1) at a discharge current of 2 A g(-1), a good cyclic stability (96% capacity retention after 5000 cycles at 5 A g(-1)), and a remarkable rate capability (80% capacitance retention with the current density increasing from 1 to 5 A g(-1)). These results along with the simplicity and high efficiency of the material preparation demonstrate that NiO hhNFs are promising electrode materials for high-performance supercapacitor applications. The method presented in this work could be extended to the fabrication of other hierarchical fiber-like nanomaterials for applications including electrochemical capacitors and secondary batteries.
