Abstract:In this paper, we study stochastic stability of a dynamical system with shadowing property, which evolves under small random perturbation. We prove that time averages along the pseudo-trajectory converge with respect to stationary measure for the randomly perturbed dynamics. In particular, we prove that stationary measures converge to physical measures when the noise level goes to zero if dynamical system has a shadowing property.

Abstract:The almost sure asymptotic stability of higher-dimensional linear stochastic systems and of a special class of nonlinear stochastic systems with homogeneous drift and diffusion coefficients of order one is studied. Based on the well-known Khasminskii's theorem, a new approach for obtaining the regions of almost sure asymptotic stability and instability without evaluating the stationary probability density of the diffusion process defined on unit hypersphere is proposed. Two examples of two and three degree-of-freedom linear stochastic systems are given to illustrate the application and effectiveness of the proposed approach combined with stochastic averaging.

Abstract:The purpose of the current paper is to contribute to the comprehension of the dynamics of the shadow system of an activator-inhibitor system known as a Gierer-Meinhardt model. Shadow systems are intended to work as an intermediate step between single equations and reaction-diffusion systems. In the case where the inhibitor's response to the activator's growth is rather weak, then the shadow system of the Gierer-Meinhardt model is reduced to a single though non-local equation whose dynamics will be investigated. We mainly focus on the derivation of blow-up results for this non-local equation which can be seen as instability patterns of the shadow system. In particular, a {\it diffusion driven instability (DDI)}, or {\it Turing instability}, in the neighbourhood of a constant stationary solution, which it is destabilised via diffusion-driven blow-up, is obtained. The latter actually indicates the formation of some unstable patterns, whilst some stability results of global-in-time solutions towards non-constant steady states guarantee the occurrence of some stable patterns.

Abstract:The notion of stochastic shadowing property is introduced. Relations to stochastic stability and standard shadowing are studied. Using tent map as an example it is proved that, in contrast to what happens for standard shadowing, there are significantly non-uniformly hyperbolic systems that satisfy stochastic shadowing property.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the mean reflected stochastic differential equations driven by G- Brownian motion, where the constraint depends on the distribution of the solution rather than on its paths. Well-posedness is achieved by first investigating the Skorokhod problem with mean reflection under the G-expectation. Two approaches to constructing the solution are introduced, both offering insights into desired properties and aiding in the application of the contraction mapping method. Additionally, a new technique is proposed to prove the first propagation of chaos result for mean reflected G-SDEs, overcoming challenges posed by the nonlinearity of G- expectation and the non-deterministic nature of the quadratic variation of G-Brownian motion.

Abstract:On the one hand, we investigate the existence and pathwise uniqueness of a nonnegative martingale solution to the stochastic evolution system of nonlinear advection-diffusion equations proposed by Klausmeier with Gaussian multiplicative noise. On the other hand, we present and verify a general stochastic version of the Schauder-Tychonoff fixed point theorem, as its application is an essential step for showing existence of the solution to the stochastic Klausmeier system. The analysis of the system is based both on variational and semigroup techniques. We also discuss additional regularity properties of the solution.

Abstract:A fundamental example of reaction-diffusion system exhibiting Turing type pattern formation is the Gierer-Meinhardt system, which reduces to the shadow Gierer-Meinhardt problem in a suitable singular limit. Thanks to its applicability in a large range of biological applications, this singularly perturbed problem has been widely studied in the last few decades via rigorous, asymptotic, and numerical methods. However, standard matched asymptotics methods do not apply (Ni 1998, Wei 1998), and therefore analytical expressions for single spike solutions are generally lacking. By introducing an ansatz based on generalized hyperbolic functions, we determine exact radially symmetric solutions to the one-dimensional shadow Gierer-Meinhardt problem for any $1 < p < \infty$, representing both inner and boundary spike solutions depending on the location of the peak. Our approach not only confirms numerical results existing in literature, but also provides guidance for tackling extensions of the shadow Gierer-Meinhardt problem based on different boundary conditions (e.g. mixed) and/or $n$-dimensional domains.

Stochastic Domination of Exit Times for Random Walks and Brownian Motion with Drift

Abstract:In this note, by an elementary use of Girsanov's transform we show that the exit time for either a biased random walk or a drifted Brownian motion on a symmetric interval is stochastically monotone with respect to the drift parameter. In the random walk case, this gives an alternative proof of a recent result of E. Peköz and R. Righter in 2024. Our arguments in both discrete and continuous cases are parallel to each other. We also outline a simple SDE proof for the Brownian case based on a standard comparison theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the stochastic optimal control problems under G-expectation. Based on the theory of backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion, which was introduced in [10.11], we can investigate the more general stochastic optimal control problems under G-expectation than that were constructed in [28]. Then we obtain a generalized dynamic programming principle and the value function is proved to be a viscosity solution of a fully nonlinear second-order partial differential equation.

Abstract:Based on the classical probability, the stability of stochastic differential delay equations (SDDEs) whose coefficients are growing at most linearly has been investigated intensively. Moreover, the delay-dependent stability of highly nonlinear hybrid stochastic differential equations (SDEs) has also been studied recently. In this paper, using the nonlinear expectation theory, we first explore the delay-dependent criteria on the asymptotic stability for a class of highly nonlinear SDDEs driven by G -Brownian motion ( G -SDDEs). Then, the (weak) quasi-sure stability of solutions to G -SDDEs is developed. Finally, an example is analyzed by the φ -max-mean algorithm to illustrate our theoretical results.

Abstract:Let $\left(X_n, d_n\right)$ be a sequence of metric spaces and let $\mathcal{F}=\left\{f_n\right\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}}$ be a sequence of continuous and onto maps $f_n: X_n \rightarrow X_{n+1}, n \in \mathbb{Z}_{+}$. In this paper, we prove that if the compression ratio meets $\prod \lambda_i=0$, then there exists $\delta_n>0$ such that any $\delta_n$ - pseudo-orbit $\left\{x_n\right\}_{n \in \mathbb{Z}}$ is $\varepsilon$ - shadowed by a unique point $x \in X_0$. For the asymptotic average shadowing property, we prove that if $\left.\mathcal{F}\right|_A$ has asymptotically average shadowing property, then $\mathcal{F}$ also has a asymptotically average shadowing propertywhen a density-related condition is satisfied. Additionally, the conclusion that the shadowing performance of strong equicontinuity and pseudo-shadowing property implies limit shadowing is also obtained. Furthermore, the shadowing property of non-autonomous product space is also discussed.

Singular stochastic delay equations driven by fractional Brownian motion: Dynamics, longtime behaviour, and pathwise stability

Abstract:We study differential equations with a linear, path dependent drift and discrete delay in the diffusion term driven by a $\gamma$-Hölder rough path for $\gamma > \frac{1}{3}$. We prove well-posedness of these systems and establish a priori bounds for their solutions. Applying these results to an equation driven by a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst paramter $H \in \big(\frac{1}{3},1\big)$, we can prove the existence of a Lyapunov spectrum for the linearized system that describes its long-time behaviour. Furthermore, we can deduce the existence of local stable, unstable, and center manifolds for the nonlinear equation. As an application, we can prove that under suitable conditions, the solution exhibits pathwise local exponential stability. En passant, we present new, concise and relatively short proofs for some classical results for $\mathcal{C}_0$-semigroups that build on the Multiplicative Ergodic Theorem formulated on Banach spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion with double mean reflections, which means that the constraints are made on the law of the solution. Making full use of the backward Skorokhod problem with two nonlinear reflecting boundaries and the fixed-point theory, the existence and uniqueness of solutions are established. We also consider the case where the coefficients satisfy a non-Lipschitz condition using the Picard iteration argument only for the Y component. Moreover, some basic properties including a new version of comparison theorem and connection with a deterministic optimization problem are also obtained.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 1569-1589, June 2024. The G-Brownian-motion-driven stochastic differential equations (G-SDEs) as well as the G-expectation, which were seminally proposed by Peng and his colleagues, have been extensively applied to describing a particular kind of uncertainty arising in real-world systems modeling. Mathematically depicting long-time and limit behaviors of the solution produced by G-SDEs is beneficial to understanding the mechanisms of system's evolution. Here, we develop a new G-semimartingale convergence theorem and further establish a new invariance principle for investigating the long-time behaviors emergent in G-SDEs. We also validate the uniqueness and the global existence of the solution of G-SDEs whose vector fields are only locally Lipschitzian with a linear upper bound. To demonstrate the broad applicability of our analytically established results, we investigate its application to achieving G-stochastic control in a few representative dynamical systems.

Abstract:We are concerned with a Neumann problem of a shadow system of the Gierer–Meinhardt model in an interval I = ( 0 , 1 ) . A stationary problem is studied, and we consider the diffusion coefficient ɛ > 0 as a bifurcation parameter. Then a complete bifurcation diagram of the stationary solutions is obtained, and a stability of every stationary solution is determined. In particular, for each n ⩾ 1 , two branches of n-mode solutions emanate from a trivial branch. All 1-mode solutions are stable for small τ > 0, and all n-mode solutions, n ⩾ 2 , are unstable for all τ > 0, where τ > 0 is a time constant. The system is known for having stationary spiky patterns with large amplitude for small ɛ > 0. Then, asymptotic expansions of maximum and minimum values of a stationary solution as ɛ → 0 are also obtained.

Abstract:Relying on the pathwise uniqueness property, we prove existence of the strong solution of a one-dimensional reflected stochastic delay equation driven by a mixture of independent Brownian and fractional Brownian motions. The difficulty is that on the one hand we cannot use the fixed-point and contraction mapping methods because of the stochastic and pathwise integrals, and on the other hand the non-continuity of the Skorokhod map with respect to the norms considered.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:Following the analysis on the stability in distribution of stochastic differential equations discussed in Fei et al. (Appl Math Lett 136:108448, 2023), this article further investigates the stability in distribution of highly nonlinear stochastic differential equations driven by G -Brownian motion ( G -HNSDEs). To this end, by employing the theory on sublinear expectations, the stability in distribution of G -HNSDEs is analysed. Moreover, a sufficient criterion of the stability in distribution of G -HNSDEs is provided for convenient use.
