Abstract:The three-body model with central two-body Yukawa interactions is applied to the nuclei Li-11, Be-14 and 17B and a long-range effective potential is obtained using the equivalent two-body method for a three-body system. It is first pointed out that the long-range effective potential indicates the effect of the three-body correlation and leads to neutron haloes in these nuclei. Quite good agreement between theoretical results and the experimental data is obtained.

Abstract:The three-body calculations on halo nuclei are reviewed and discussed. It is concluded that the ground state properties of halo nuclei 11 Li , 14 Be and 17 B are independent of the shape of two-body potentials and an explanation on it is given. It is also shown that an introduction of a three-body interaction may be useful for a good explanation of the properties of halo nuclei.

Abstract:The density-dependent relativistic mean-field theory, without introducing any adjustment, is applied to the nuclei Be-12, Be-14, Ne-30 and Ne-32. Contrary to the failure of the relativistic mean-field theory for the halo nuclei Be-14 and Ne-32, the density-dependent relativistic mean-field theory, in which the relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock results of nuclear matter have been incorporated, can satisfactorily reproduce the experimental data of the binding energy and the abnormally large root-mean-square radius. It is also predicted that the halo neutrons in Be-14 occupy the 2s(1/2) level instead of the 1d(5/2) level and the halo neutrons in Ne-32 occupy the 2p(3/2) and 2p(1/2) levels instead of the 1f(7/2). A new picture on the appearance of the neutron halo has been obtained.

Abstract:Abstract.With the relativistic Coulomb wave function boundary condition, the energies, widths and wave functions of the single-proton resonant orbitals for 17Ne are studied by the analytical continuation in the coupling constant (ACCC) approach within the framework of the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. Pairing correlations and contributions from the single-particle resonant orbitals in the continuum are taken into consideration by the resonant Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) approach, in which the constant pairing strength is used. It can be seen that the fully self-consistent calculations with NL3 and NLSH effective interactions mostly agree with the latest experimental measurements, such as binding energies, matter radii, charge radii and densities. Abstract:The rapid Gaussian falloff of the oscillator functions at large radius makes them poorly suited for the description of the asymptotic properties of the nuclear wave function, a problem which becomes particularly acute for halo nuclei. We consider an alternative basis for ab initio no-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations, built from Coulomb-Sturmian radial functions, allowing for realistic exponential falloff. NCCI calculations are carried out for the neutron halo nuclei 6,8He, as well as the baseline case 4He, with the JISP16 nucleon-nucleon interaction. Estimates are made for the root-mean-square radii of the proton and matter distributions.

Abstract:Halos epitomize the fascinating interplay between weak binding, shell evolution, and deformation effects, especially in nuclei near the drip line. In this Letter, we apply the state-of-the-art ab initio valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group approach to predict potential candidates for one- and two-neutron halo in the intermediate-mass region. Notably, we use spectroscopic factors (SF) and two-nucleon amplitudes (TNA) as criteria for suggesting one- and two-neutron halo candidates, respectively. This approach is not only theoretically sound but also amenable to experimental validation. Our research focuses on Mg, Al, Si, P, and S neutron-drip-line nuclei, offering systematic predictions of neutron halo candidates in terms of separation energies, SF (TNA), and average occupation. The calculation suggests the ground states of Al40,42,44,46 , Si41,43,45,47 , P46,48 , and S47,49 are promising candidates for one-neutron halos, while Mg40,42,44,46 , Al45,47 , Si46,48 , P49 , and S50 may harbor two-neutron halos. In addition, the relative mean-square neutron radius between halo nuclei and inner core is calculated for suggested potential neutron halos. Abstract:Neutron scattering off neutron halos can provide important information about the internal structure of nuclei close to the neutron drip line. In this work, we use halo effective field theory to study the s -wave scattering of a neutron and the spin-parity JP=12+ one-neutron halo nuclei Be11, C15 , and C19 at leading order. In the J=1 channel, the only inputs to the Faddeev equations are their one-neutron separation energies. In the J=0 channel, the neutron-neutron scattering length and the two-neutron separation energies of Be12, C16 , and C20 enter as well. The numerical results show that the total s -wave cross sections in the J=1 channel at threshold are of the order of a few barns. In the J=0 channel, these cross sections are of the order of a few barns for n−Be11 and n−C19 scattering, and about 60 mb for the n−C15 scattering. The appearance of a pole in pcotδ close to zero in all three cases indicates the existence of a virtual Efimov state close to threshold in each of the Be12, C16 , and C20 systems. Observation of this pole would confirm the presence of Efimov physics in halo nuclei. Abstract:The relativistic density-dependent Hartree framework, where the relativistic two-body correlations are properly incorporated, is developed to study the properties of halo nuclei. The halo nucleon–meson vertex is reconstructed considering the nuclear potentials can be built dominantly from the two-body interactions. The two-neutron halo nucleus 11 Li , together with the one-neutron halo nucleus 19 C , is investigated. Separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii, and halo tails of above halo nuclei are nicely reproduced. The correlation contribution which provides essential attractions for halo neutrons is important to guarantee the relation Sn>S2n for 11 Li .

Abstract:This work is devoted to study the structural and reactional properties of the prototypical example of the core–halo ( Li– Li) nuclei. The halo nucleus Li consists of a central core of Li surrounded by 2 n –halo with very low separation energy = 378±5 KeV, reflecting the huge calculated root mean square radius value 4.11 fm. The elastic scattering potential at low and intermediate incident energies was a puzzle for decades of research on nuclear reactions. Single– and double–folding potentials describing the elastic scattering of Li from the proton and C, based on different effective interactions were constructed. Systematic comparison between the considered methods in terms of the renormalization coefficients is done. Based on the considered methods, the obtained potentials doesn't need any renormalization in case of using real folding potential together with phenomenological imaginary potential and merely need renormalization almost approach unity in case of using complex folding potential to fit the total reaction cross sections and angular distributions along the measured data. Furthermore, correlations between real volume integrals and nucleon incident energies for the neutron drip–line Li nucleus were proven along the whole scale of energies.

Abstract:The excited states of some odd A nuclei near the stability line have been systematically investigated from light to intermediate mass with the spherical relativistic mean field (RMF) model. The ratio between the valence nucleon root-mean-square (RMS) radius and the core rms radius, the separation energy and the density distribution have been deduced as signatures for halo or skin structure. We have presented the scaling laws of the ratio of valence particle rms radii and square-potential radii versus the scaled separation energies. The probability for a valence particle being out of the binding potential has also been extracted. We proposed a relaxed necessary condition for nuclear halo occurrence.

Abstract:We investigate the ground state properties of proton-rich nuclei in the framework of the relativistic mean-field model. Calculations show that the experimental proton halo in the nuclei 26,27,28P can be reproduced by the model. The proton halos can appear in proton-rich nuclei because the total nuclear potential is attractive up to the radial distance r ≈ 5.5 fm. But the size of proton halos is finite due to the limitation of the Coulomb potential barrier. The mean-square radius of a halo proton is not very sensitive to the separation energy of the last proton in some very proton-rich nuclei due to the effect of the Coulomb barrier. This behavior is different from the case of a neutron halo where the mean-square radius of a halo neutron is inversely proportional to the separation energy of the last halo neutron. We have also analysed the differences of the relativistic mean-field potentials of 25Al and 26P and found that the isovector potential from the p meson has an important effect on the differences.

Abstract:The newly discovered neutron halos in the excited states of nuclei B-12, C-13, and Pb-209 are studied by the relativistic mean-field theory. The calculated binding energies are very close to the experimental ones. The experimentally extracted root-mean-square radii of the last neutron with different occupations in nuclei are well reproduced by calculations. New candidates for the neutron halos in excited states are predicted and are useful for further search of neutron halos in the excited states of stable nuclei.

Abstract:Halo phenomenon in deformed nuclei is studied by using a fully self-consistent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Taking a deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus 44Mg as an example and by examining contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions, we show a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core.

Abstract:Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in coordinate-space is used to describe the chain of lithium isotopes reaching from Li-6 to Li-11. Pairing correlations are taken into account by a density dependent force of zero range. In contrast to earlier investigations within a relativistic mean field theory and a density dependent Hartree-Fock theory, where the halo in Li-11 could only be reproduced by an artificial shift of the 1(P1/2) level close to the continuum limit, the halo is now reproduced in a self-consistent way, without further modifications, using the scattering of Cooper pairs to the 2s(1/2) level in the continuum. Excellent agreement with recent experimental data is observed.
Total Nuclear Reaction Cross Section Induced by Halo Nuclei and Stable Nuclei

Abstract:We develop a method for calculation of the total reaction cross sections induced by the halo nuclei and stable. nuclei. This approach is based on the Glauber theory, which is valid for nuclear reactions at high energies. It is extended for nuclear reactions at low energies and intermediate energies by including both the quantum correction and Coulomb correction under the assumption of the effective nuclear density distribution. The calculated results of the total reaction cross section induced by stable nuclei agree well with 30 experimental data within 10 percent accuracy. The comparison between the numerical results and 20 experimental data for the total nuclear reaction cross section induced by the neutron halo nuclei and the proton halo nuclei indicates a satisfactory agreement after considering the halo structure of these nuclei, which implies quite different mean fields for the nuclear reactions induced by halo nuclei and stable nuclei. The halo nucleon distributions and the root-mean-square radii of these nuclei can be extracted from the above comparison based on the improved Glauber model, which indicates clearly the halo structures of these nuclei. Especially, it is clear to see that the medium correction of the nucleon-nucleon collision has little effect on the total reaction cross sections induced by the halo nuclei due to the very, weak binding and the very extended density distribution.
