Abstract:Noble metal-doped ZnSnO3 nanocubes were prepared via a one-step hydrothermal route. The crystal structure, micromorphology, and elemental composition of these samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron microscopy. The results indicate that noble metal-doped ZnSnO3 is of face-centered cubic perovskite structure with a side length of around 400 nm. The ethanol sensing properties of the ZnSnO3 nanocubes with various noble metal doping (Ag, Au, Pt) were investigated. It shows that the ZnSnO3 nanocubes achieve the maximum response to ethanol gas at the operating temperature of 200 °C. While the highest responses of the noble metal-doped samples follow the order of Ag-ZnSnO3, Au-ZnSnO3, and Pt-ZnSnO3 nanocubes. Especially, the optimal response of 83.9 is obtained for Ag-ZnSnO3 nanocubes to 100 ppm ethanol gas, which is nearly sixteen times higher than that of pristine ZnSnO3 nanocubes. Gas sensors based on noble metal doped-ZnSnO3 nanocubes also show fast response speed, good selectivity, and high reproducibility, indicating an excellent practical application potential. Based on the sensing model of electron depletion layer and the sensitization effects of noble metals, the feasible gas-sensing mechanism of noble metal-doped ZnSnO3 nanocubes are proposed.
