Abstract:By using quantum method and decorrelation approximation, the twophoton bistability equation in three level atom medium is obtained. The conclusions are consistent with experiment results. The shortcomings in treating this problem by using two-photon vecter model are pointed out.

Abstract:By using one-dimensional photon state-vector function obtained previously, a general analytic expression is deduced for the optical two-hole interference experiment, which not only greatly enlarges the range of the observable, but also completely represents the probability distribution for a photon in the whole space. On the basis of the basic rules of quantum optics, we quantitatively analyze and discuss the domain of definition of the experiment, and the quantum behavior of the interference item on the average of space.

Abstract:An effective Hamiltonian for the two-level model is derived from the microscopic Hamiltonian of a three-level atom in a Ξ configuration, interacting through two-photon transitions with a lightfield. The effective Hamiltonian includes a term describing the optical Stark shift. With this effective Hamiltonian, we study the steady-state equation and the squeezing spectrum from a cavity field mode interacting with an ensemble of three level “Ξ configuration” atoms by a two-photon transition. It is shown that the inclusion of optical Stark shift brings about changes in drift and diffusion coefficients as well as additional nonzero correlations between the stochastic forces. As a result, although qualitative features remain unaltered, quantitative changes both in the transmission characteristics and the squeezing spectrum are significant.

Abstract:Optical bistability in a four-level inverted Y-type atom system inside an optical ring cavity is investigated numerically. Atomic density matrix equations are derived by the density matrix theory. The effect of the Spontaneously Generated Coherence( SGC) on threshold of the optical bistability is studied.When the probing field and controlling field are in two-photon resonance,the atoms are trapped on the two lower states,probing field is transparent and there is no bistability in the system. But when the probing field and coupling field or coupling field and controlling field are in two-photon resonance,there is the optical bistability in the system. Under condition of the stable state,SGC can make the interference destructive from two transition channels. Population distribution on the higher levels is enhanced,transparency window becomes narrow,and the threshold of the bistability becomes large.

Abstract:We give a microscopic description of the optical bistability, where the transmission coefficient has two different values as a function of input light intensity, and the system exhibits a discontinuous jump with a hysteresis loop. We developed an efficient numerical algorithm to treat the quantum master equation for hybridized systems of many photons and a large number of two-level atoms. By using this method, we characterize the bistability from the viewpoint of eigenmodes and eigenvalues of the time evolution operator of the quantum master equation. We investigate the optical bistability within the low photon-density regime, where the hybridization of photon and atom degrees of freedom occurs and the resonance spectrum has a double peak structure. We compared it with the standard optical bistability between the low photon-density regime and the high photon-density regime, where the photons can be treated as a classical electromagnetic field and the resonance spectrum has a single peak structure. We discuss the steady-state properties of the optical bistability: dependencies of the photon number density on the intensity and the double peak structure of the photon number distribution inside the bistable region. As for the dynamical properties, we find that the relaxation timescale shows an exponential growth with the system size, and reveal how the hysteresis loop of the optical bistability depends on the size of the system and the sweeping rate of the driving amplitude. Finally, by investigating the effects of detuning frequency of the input field, we clarify the characteristic properties of the present optical bistability within the low photon-density regime, which are qualitatively different from the standard optical bistable phenomena.

Abstract:With the concept of negative photon and the -photon J C model, we investigate analytically the effect of virtual photon field on the collapse revival effect of atomic inversion and squeezing of atom, we find that there is a significant effect of virtual photon field on atomic inversion and squeezing of atom; with the one-photon model as an example, we find that the squeezing of atom occurs periodically, the time and times of squeezing are only related to the resonance frequency and the amplitude of squeezing related to coupling constant of atom field, mean photon number and resonance frequency; also we show that the effect of squeezing of atom does not exist within rotating wave approximation if . Taking the approach of nearest-neighboring spectrum in the quantum chaos field, we investigate the properties of energy spectrum in one-photon JC model and show that the integrable region, non-integrable region and transition region of this system can be illustrated by a phase diagram;also we discuss the influence of interaction of atoms on spectrum and statistics of adjacent energy levels, we find that the influence of interaction is little obvious in strong field but takes great important role in weak field.

Abstract:Optical bistability and multistability behaviors are investigated in a tripod four-level atomic configuration, including a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that optical bistability and multistability can be obtained by changing the relative phase of the driven fields and the intensity of the microwave field. In addition, we can switch optical bistability to optical multistability by adjusting the relative phase of the driven fields or vice versa, and the threshold can be controlled via changing the parameters of the scheme.

Abstract:We theoretically investigate optical bistability (OB) behaviour in a four-level atomic system confined in a unidirectional ring cavity. It is shown that OB can be controlled by adjusting the intensity of the coupling field and the value of the cooperativity parameter. More importantly, our numerical results show that the threshold intensity of OB can be reduced without decreasing the range of the hysteresis loop via adjusting the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) or the relative phase between two applied fields. The influence of the frequency detuning of the coupling field on the OB behaviour is also discussed.

Abstract:The optical bistability of a four-level system with triplet-state absorption typical of organic media is studied. We derive the state equation of optical bistability with triplet-state absorption. Different bistabilities with resonant absorption or dispersion of the triplet state are numerically discussed. The effects of the cooperativity parameter and the atomic- and cavity-detuning parameters on optical bistable behavior are analyzed. It is found that the hysteresis loops decrease with an increase of both the cooperativity parameter and the atomic-detuning parameter of the triplet state and that under some conditions reverse saturable-absorptive media can display bistability.

Abstract:We evaluate the effectiveness of the quantum nondemolition (QND) measurement scheme in an effective two-level atomic configuration by using the input-output formalism and the quantum regression theorem. The QND capability can be promoted greatly as the cavity detuning is swept towards the bistability threshold.

Abstract:The optical behavior of a four-level system in a ring cavity driven by two coherent laser fields is studied. One laser field is treated as the incident field and the other the control field, respectively. It is found that there is optical transparency when the difference between the two frequency detunings of the incident and control fields from the corresponding atomic transition frequencies is zero. Optical bistability can be produced and controlled by increasing the magnitude of the frequency difference. The bistable hysteresis becomes larger when the frequency difference is increased. Further increase of the latter can lead to onset of multistability.

Abstract:Optical bistability in a unidirectional cavity has been analyzed based on a ground-state doublet three-level atomic model in which atoms are initially prepared in a coherent superposition state, It is shown that bistability can be realized due to the initial coherence. Furthermore, the bistable hysteresis cycle becomes wider as the initial polarization increases, and the bistability can be controlled by the initial coherence.

Abstract:The effect of a squeezed vacuum on the optical bistable and multistable behaviour of a system of N three-level atoms is investigated, where the quantum interference between the atomic transition paths is considered. It is shown that the squeezed vacuum can profoundly affect the output field of this system. A strong squeezed vacuum can lead to multistable behaviour, even in the case where the cooperation parameter C is so small that the input output relationship curve is monotone in the absence of the squeezed vacuum. The optical multistability is most significant when the quantum interference is perfect. The bistability and multistability can be controlled by the squeezing photon number and the strength of the two-photon correlation.

Abstract:The close similarities between nonlinear optics and nonlinear atom optics motivate us to demonstrate the possibility of atom-optical bistability for a trapped Bose–Einstein condensate. Driven by an intense, coherent input matter wave, the trapped Bose–Einstein condensate might display the bistability when the Born–Markov master equation for the condensate mode is used. The atom-optical bistability provides a way to control atom lasers with atom lasers.

Abstract:A scheme for optical bistability (OB) is proposed, in which the atom is in a four-level tripod configuration and driven by a single elliptically polarized light. It is demonstrated that the behaviors of OB can be controlled efficiently by adjusting the system parameters appropriately. Moreover, phase-controlled OB can be realized as well.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the formation of optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) in a degenerate four-level atomic system by an external magnetic field that is excited by a probe laser field, a coupling laser field and a signal laser field. The coupling field can cause electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) for the probe field in the atomic medium, while the signal field and/or external magnetic field can switch between single-EIT and two-EIT regimes. Based on these properties, OB and OM effects can be formed at two different frequency regions of the probe field (two channels). By adjusting the magnetic field or the intensity and the frequency of laser fields, the threshold intensity and the width of OB or OM can also be changed simply. The model can be useful for experimental observations and applications in modern photonic devices

Abstract:We investigate the optical bistability and multistability behaviors in a closed three-level \Lambda-type atomic system. By adding a sideband on either hand of the transitions which are originally coupled by a coherent control field and a coherent probe field to disturb the two-photon resonance, bistability occurs due to two-channel interference. Increasing the sideband Rabi frequency leads to the switching from bistability to tristability. When the sideband simultaneously couples with both hands, we can easily obtain quadrastability.
