Abstract:Fractional matching extendability is a concept that brings together two widely studied topics in graph theory, namely that of fractional matchings and that of matching extendability. A {\em fractional matching} of a graph $\Gamma$ with edge set $E$ is a function $f$ from $E$ to the real interval $[0,1]$ with the property that for each vertex $v$ of $\Gamma$ the sum of the $f$-values of all the edges incident to $v$ is at most $1$. When this sum equals $1$ for each vertex $v$, the fractional matching is {\em perfect}. A graph of order at least $2t+1$ is {\em fractional $t$-extendable} if it contains a matching of size $t$ and if each such matching $M$ can be extended to a fractional perfect matching in the sense that the corresponding function $f$ assigns the value $1$ to each edge of $M$. In this paper we study fractional matching extendability of Cayley graphs of Abelian groups. We show that with the obvious exceptions of cycles of odd length all connected Cayley graphs of Abelian groups are fractional $1$-extendable and we classify the fractional $2$-extendable Cayley graphs of Abelian groups. This extends the classification of $2$-extendable (in the classical sense) connected Cayley graphs of Abelian groups of even order from 1995 obtained by Chan, Chen and Yu.

Abstract:A matching M of a graph G is called uniquely restricted if M is a unique perfect matching of the subgraph induced by M -saturated vertex set. A connected graph is called uniquely restricted matching extendable (abbreviated as -extendable) if every uniquely restricted matching is included in a perfect matching. A -extendable graph G is minimal if is not -extendable for any edge e . In this paper, we find all -extendable cubic graphs. For any integer , we construct some -regular -extendable graphs and -regular -extendable graphs. We show that is a minimal -extendable graph for any tree T . Finally, we show that the minimum size of -extendable graph G on 2 n vertices is and characterize the extreme graph.

Abstract:For most problems pertaining to perfect matchings, one may restrict attention to matching covered graphs -- that is, connected nontrivial graphs with the property that each edge belongs to some perfect matching. There is extensive literature on these graphs that are also known as $1$-extendable graphs (since each edge extends to a perfect matching) including an ear decomposition theorem due to Lovasz and Plummer. A cycle $C$ of a graph $G$ is conformal if $G-V(C)$ has a perfect matching; such cycles play an important role in the study of perfect matchings, especially when investigating the Pfaffian orientation problem. A matching covered graph $G$ is cycle-extendable if -- for each even cycle $C$ -- the cycle $C$ is conformal, or equivalently, each perfect matching of $C$ extends to a perfect matching of $G$, or equivalently, $C$ is the symmetric difference of two perfect matchings of $G$, or equivalently, $C$ extends to an ear decomposition of $G$. In the literature, these are also known as cycle-nice or as $1$-cycle resonant graphs. Zhang, Wang, Yuan, Ng and Cheng [Discrete Mathematics, 345:7 (2022), 112876] provided a characterization of claw-free cycle-extendable graphs. Guo and Zhang [Discrete Mathematics, 275:1-3 (2004), 151-164] and independently Zhang and Li [Discrete Applied Mathematics, 160:13-14 (2012), 2069-2074], provided characterizations of bipartite planar cycle-extendable graphs. In this paper, we establish a characterization of all planar cycle-extendable graphs -- in terms of $K_2$ and four infinite families.

Abstract:A connected graph $G$ with at least $2m + 2n + 2$ vertices which contains a perfect matching is $E(m, n)$-{\it extendable}, if for any two sets of disjoint independent edges $M$ and $N$ with $|M| = m$ and $|N|= n$, there is a perfect matching $F$ in $G$ such that $M\subseteq F$ and $N\cap F=\emptyset$. Similarly, a connected graph with at least $n+2k+2$ vertices is called $(n,k)$-{\it extendable} if for any vertex set $S$ of size $n$ and any matching $M$ of size $k$ of $G-S$, $G-S-V(M)$ contains a perfect matching. Let $\varepsilon$ be a small positive constant, $b(G)$ and $t(G)$ be the binding number and toughness of a graph $G$. The two main theorems of this paper are: for every graph $G$ with sufficiently large order, 1) if $b(G)\geq 4/3+\varepsilon$, then $G$ is $E(m,n)$-extendable and also $(n,k)$-extendable; 2) if $t(G)\geq 1+\varepsilon$ and $G$ has a high connectivity, then $G$ is $E(m,n)$-extendable and also $(n,k)$-extendable. It is worth to point out that the binding number and toughness conditions for the existence of the general matching extension properties are almost same as that for the existence of perfect matchings.

Abstract:A connected graph G of even order v is called t-extendable if it contains a perfect matching, t < v/2 and any matching oft edges is contained in some perfect matching. The extendability of G is the maximum t such that G is t-extendable. Since its introduction by Plummer in the 1980s, this combinatorial parameter has been studied for many classes of interesting graphs. In 2005, Brouwer and Haemers proved that every distance-regular graph of even order is 1-extendable and in 2014, Cioaba and Li showed that any connected strongly regular graph of even order is 3-extendable except for a small number of exceptions.In this paper, we extend and generalize these results. We prove that all distance-regular graphs with diameter D >= 3 are 2 extendable and we also obtain several better lower bounds for the extendability of distance-regular graphs of valency k >= 3 that depend on k, A and p,, where A is the number of common neighbors of any two adjacent vertices and c is the number of common neighbors of any two vertices in distance two. In many situations, we show that the extendability of a distance-regular graph with valency k grows linearly in k. We conjecture that the extendability of a distance-regular graph of even order and valency k is at least [k/2]- 1 and we prove this fact for bipartite distance-regular graphs.In course of this investigation, we obtain some new bounds for the max-cut and the independence number of distance-regular graphs in terms of their size and odd girth and we prove that our inequalities are incomparable with known eigenvalue bounds for these combinatorial parameters. Abstract:Proposing them as a general framework, Liu and Yu (2001) [6] introduced (n,k,d)-graphs to unify the concepts of deficiency of matchings, n-factor-criticality and k-extendability. Let G be a graph and let n,k and d be non-negative integers such that n+2k+d+2⩽|V(G)| and |V(G)|−n−d is even. If on deleting any n vertices from G the remaining subgraph H of G contains a k-matching and each k-matching can be extended to a defect-d matching in H, then G is called an (n,k,d)-graph. In this paper, we obtain more properties of (n,k,d)-graphs, in particular the recursive relations of (n,k,d)-graphs for distinct parameters n,k and d. Moreover, we provide a characterization for maximal non-(n,k,d)-graphs.

Abstract:Let G be a graph and n, k and d be non-negative integers such that $|V(G)|\geqslant n+2k+d+2$ and $|V(G)|-n-d \equiv 0 \pmod {2}$. A graph is called an (n, k, d)-graph if deleting any n vertices from G the remaining subgraph of G contains k-matchings and each k-matching in the subgraph can be extended to a defect-d matching. We study the relationships between (n, k, d)-graphs and various closure operations, which are usually considered in the theory of hamiltonian graphs. In particular, we obtain some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of (n, k, d)-graphs in terms of these closures.

Abstract:A graph G is said to be k -extendable if every matching of size k in G can be extended to a perfect matching of G , where k is a positive integer. We say G is 1-excludable if for every edge e of G , there exists a perfect matching excluding e . In this paper, we first establish a lower bound on the size (resp. the spectral radius) of G to guarantee that G is k -extendable. Then we determine a lower bound on the size (resp. the spectral radius) of G to guarantee that G is 1-excludable. All the corresponding extremal graphs are characterized.

Abstract:Graph Theory Ruskey and Savage conjectured that in the d-dimensional hypercube, every matching M can be extended to a Hamiltonian cycle. Fink verified this for every perfect matching M, remarkably even if M contains external edges. We prove that this property also holds for sparse spanning regular subgraphs of the cubes: for every d ≥7 and every k, where 7 ≤k ≤d, the d-dimensional hypercube contains a k-regular spanning subgraph such that every perfect matching (possibly with external edges) can be extended to a Hamiltonian cycle. We do not know if this result can be extended to k=4,5,6. It cannot be extended to k=3. Indeed, there are only three 3-regular graphs such that every perfect matching (possibly with external edges) can be extended to a Hamiltonian cycle, namely the complete graph on 4 vertices, the complete bipartite 3-regular graph on 6 vertices and the 3-cube on 8 vertices. Also, we do not know if there are graphs of girth at least 5 with this matching-extendability property.

Abstract:In this article, we discuss when one can extend an r-regular graph to an r + 1 regular by adding edges. Different conditions on the num- ber of vertices n and regularity r are developed. We derive an upper bound of r, depending on n, for which, every regular graph G(n, r) can be extended to an r + 1-regular graph with n vertices. Presence of induced complete bipartite subgraph and complete subgraph is dis- cussed, separately, for the extension of regularity.

Abstract:In 2014, some scholars showed that every 2-connected claw-free graph G with independence number α(G)≤3 is Hamiltonian with one exception of family of graphs. If a nontrivial path contains only internal vertices of degree two and end vertices of degree not two, then we call it a branch. A set S of branches of a graph G is called a branch cut if we delete all edges and internal vertices of branches of S leading to more components than G. We use a branch bond to denote a minimal branch cut. If a branch-bond has an odd number of branches, then it is called odd. In this paper, we shall characterize all 2-connected claw-free graphs G such that every odd branch-bond of G has an edge branch and such that α(G)≤5 but has no 2-factor. We also consider the same problem for those 2-edge-connected claw-free graphs with α(G)≤4.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the surface embedding of matching extendable graphs. There are two directions extending the theory of perfect matchings, that is, matching extendability and factor-criticality. In solving a problem posed by Plummer, Dean (1992) established the fascinating formula for the minimum number k = mu(Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not k-extendable. Su and Zhang, Plummer and Zha found the minimum number n = rho(Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not n-factor-critical. Based on the notion of (n, k)-graphs which associates these two parameters, we found the formula for the minimum number k = mu,(n, Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not an (n, k)-graph. To access this two-parameter-problem, we consider its dual problem and find out mu(n, Sigma) conversely. The same approach works for rediscovering the formula of the number rho(Sigma). Spectral Conditions for $K$-Extendability and $K$-Factors of Bipartite Graphs

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected graph. If $G$ contains a matching of size $k$, and every matching of size $k$ is contained in a perfect matching of $G$, then $G$ is said to be \emph{$k$-extendable}. A $k$-regular spanning subgraph of $G$ is called a \textit{$k$-factor}. In this paper, we provide spectral conditions for a (balanced bipartite) graph with minimum degree $\delta$ to be $k$-extendable, and for the existence of a $k$-factor in a balanced bipartite graph, respectively. Our results generalize some previous results on perfect matchings of graphs, and extend the results in \cite{D.F} and \cite{W.L} to $k$-extendable graphs. Furthermore, our results generalize the result of Lu, Liu and Tian \cite{Lu-Liu} to general regular factors. Additionally, using the equivalence of $k$ edge-disjoint perfect matchings and $k$-factors in balanced bipartite graphs, our results can derive a spectral condition for the existence of $k$ edge-disjoint perfect matchings in balanced bipartite graphs.

Abstract:A connected graph G is H - removable if H is a subgraph of G , G has at least |V(H)|+2 vertices and G−V(H′) has a perfect matching for every subgraph H′ of G isomorphic to H . So a connected graph is kK2 -removable if and only if it is k -extendable, where kK2 is a matching of size k . Further G is an H - forced graph if G−V(H′) has a unique perfect matching for every subgraph H′ of G isomorphic to H . In this paper, we first characterize kK2 -forced graphs for k≥2 as K2k+2 and Kk+1,k+1 by using randomly matchable graphs. Let Pi denote a path with i vertices. We show that P3 - and P4 -removable graphs are factor-critical and 1-extendable respectively. By using ear decomposition, we obtain that a connected graph G is P3 -forced if and only if G is K5 or C2k+1 ( k≥2 ). Finally we prove that a connected graph G is P4 -forced if and only if G is isomorphic to K6 , K3,3 , C2k ( k≥3 ), the Petersen graph, a uniform theta graph Θ3n ( n≥3 ) or C12+ .

An Analogue of Quasi-Transitivity for Edge-Coloured Graphs

Abstract:We extend the notion of quasi-transitive orientations of graphs to 2-edge-coloured graphs. By relating quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colourings to an equivalence relation on the edge set of a graph, we classify those graphs that admit a quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colouring. As a contrast to Ghouilá-Houri's classification of quasi-transitively orientable graphs as comparability graphs, we find quasi-transitively $2$-edge-colourable graphs do not admit a forbiddden subgraph characterization. Restricting the problem to comparability graphs, we show that the family of uniquely quasi-transitively orientable comparability graphs is exactly the family of comparabilty graphs that admit no quasi-transitive $2$-edge-colouring.

Abstract:The well-known characterization of two-ended groups says that every two-ended group can be split over finite subgroups which means it is isomorphic to either by a free product with amalgamation $A\ast_C B$ or an HNN-extension $\ast_{\phi} C$, where $C$ is a finite group and $[A:C]=[B:C]=2$ and $\phi\in Aut(C)$. In this paper, we show that there is a way in order to spilt two-ended quasi-transitive graphs without dominated ends and two-ended transitive graphs over finite subgraphs in the above sense. As an application of it, we characterize all groups acting with finitely many orbits almost freely on those graphs.

Characterizing graph-nonedge pairs with single interval Cayley configuration spaces in 3-dimensions

Abstract:A linkage $(G,\ell)$ is a pair containing a finite simple undirected graph $G$ and a squared edge-length map $\ell$ that assigns squared Euclidean lengths to the edges of $G$. A $d$-realization of $(G,\ell)$ is an assignment of points in $\mathbb{R}^d$ to the vertices of $G$ for which pair-wise distances between points agree with $\ell$. For $d \leq 3$, we characterize pairs $(G,f)$, where $f$ is a nonedge of $G$, such that, for any squared edge-length map $\ell$, there is a single interval of attained distance values between the endpoints of $f$ over all $d$-realizations of $(G,\ell)$, answering a question posed in \cite{sitharam2010characterizing} a decade ago, which gave an equivalent characterization for $d\le 2$ that does not generalize to $d\ge 3$. Two notable byproducts of this characterization are a new tool for partial $3$-tree completion, a well-studied problem, and a deeper understanding of the realization space of partial $3$-tree linkages through the lens of Cayley realization spaces. Although related to the minor closed class of $3$-flattenable graphs, the class of pairs $(G,f)$ with the above property is not minor closed, has no obvious well quasi-ordering, and there are infinitely many minimal graphs-nonedge pairs - w.r.t. edge contractions - in the complement class. Our characterization overcomes these obstacles, is based on the forbidden minors of the class of $3$-flattenable graphs, and contributes to the theory of Cayley configurations used for analyzing distance-constrained configuration spaces in a range of application domains. Generalizations to higher dimensions and efficient algorithmic characterizations are conjectured.

Abstract:Let $s$ be a positive integer. Our goal is to find all finite abelian groups $G$ that contain a $2$-subset $A$ for which the undirected Cayley graph $\Gamma(G,A)$ has diameter at most $s$. We provide a complete answer when $G$ is cyclic, and a conjecture and some partial answers when $G$ is noncyclic.

Abstract:Recently, several works by a number of authors have provided characterizations of integral undirected Cayley graphs over generalized dihedral groups and generalized dicyclic groups. We generalize and unify these results in two different ways. Firstly, we work over arbitrary non-abelian finite groups admitting an abelian subgroup of index 2. Secondly, our main result actually characterizes integral mixed Cayley graphs over such finite groups, in the spirit of a very recent result of Kadyan--Bhattarcharjya in the abelian case.

Abstract:We define the cyclic matching sequencibility of a graph to be the largest integer $d$ such that there exists a cyclic ordering of its edges so that every $d$ consecutive edges in the cyclic ordering form a matching. We show that the cyclic matching sequencibility of $K_{2m}$ and $K_{2m+1}$ equal $m-1$.
