Abstract:The complex [Cu-2(mu -cis-oxpn)(phen)(NO3)(2)], where oxpn = N,N ' -bis(3-aminopropyl) oxamidato and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, has been synthesized and its crystal structure determined by X-ray methods. The structure consists of binuclear copper (II) molecules in which the Cu (II) atoms are bridged by oxamidato group in the cis conformation, the Cu-Cu distance being 5.205(10) Angstrom. The coordination geometry around Cu (II) atoms is square pyramidal; the apex is occupied by a more weakly bonded O atom from a nitrate group. Electron delocalization is observed in the bridging oxamide moiety. The co-planarity of bridge ligand and basal plane around Cu (II) atoms may benefit spin super-exchange between two Cu (II) atoms. IR spectra of the binuclear complex are discussed.

Abstract:A three-dimensional complex {[Cu(amet)(2)](2)[Fe(CN)(6)]}(infinity) (amet = NH2CH2CH2OH) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, Mossbauer spectra and magnetic properties. X-ray diffraction analyses show that the complex belongs to the orthorhombic space group of Pnnm with a = 11.649(2)a, b = 11.860(2) Angstrom, c =7.944(2) Angstrom, V = 1 097.5(4)Angstrom(3), Z = 2. The three-dimensional complex consists of chain unit {[Cu(amet)(2)](2) [Fe(CN)(6)]}(infinity), in which each Fe2+ is octahedrally coordinated and each Cu2+ is in the environment of triangular dipyramid.

Abstract:The weakly coordinating cluster [CB11 H12 ]- is used as a versatile building block for the preparation of luminescent copper(I) complexes. Treatment of [CB11 H11 -12-C≡CH]- with CuI and ammonia affords {(CB11 H11 -12-C≡C)2 Cu4 (NH3 )3 }n (2). Addition of selected phosphine and pyridine ligands transforms 2 to a range of homometallic products 3-13. All compounds have been characterized by X-ray crystallography, which reveals a surprising variety of structural complexity featuring cores with two to ten Cu+ centers. In the solid state, products 3-13 exhibit room-temperature phosphorescence across the visible spectrum in colors from blue to deep red. Lifetimes at room temperature are in the microsecond regime, and quantum yields of up to Φ=0.99 are observed.

Abstract:Heterobimetallic compounds with aluminyl ligands have hitherto gained a significant interest due to promising small molecule activation pathways including challenging substrates. While recently some trimetallic derivatives have been introduced, the steric demands required by these known systems has precluded the access of higher nuclearity systems. We herein report on a first hexametallic copper aluminylene aluminyl namely [(AlCp*)Cu{Al(HMDS)2}]2 ([5]2). The synthesis and characterization are enabled via designed Al(I) transfer using (AlCp*)4 and precursor complex [(PtBu3)Cu(HMDS)] (1). The associated pathway for aluminum transfer via different intermediates is discussed. This includes single crystal X-ray crystallography (SC-XRD), multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, control experiments and state-of-the art quantum chemical calculations. Abstract:Four novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Cu(3)(2)](ClO4)(2) . 0.67H(2)O (4), [Cu(3)(2)][Cu(mal)(2)] . 6H(2)O (mal(2-)= -OCOCH2COO-) (5), [Cd(3)(2)](NO3)(2) . H2O, (6) and [Cd(3)(OAc)(2)] . 6H(2)O (7), were obtained by self-assembly of the corresponding metal salts with a novel flexible tripodal ligand, 1-(1-imidazolyl)-3,5-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl) benzene (3), and their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Complex 4 has a 2D network structure in which 3 shows two different coordination modes, one kind of 3 acts as a three-connecting ligand and the other one serves as a two-connecting (bridging) ligand using its two flexible arms. Complex 5 has an infinite 1D hinged chain structure in which only two of three imidazole groups of 3 are coordinated with the metal atoms while the last one is uncoordinated. In complexes 6 and 7, the metal centers are all six-coordinated; 6 has a 2D honeycomb and 7 has a 2D grid network structure, respectively. Ligand 3 has a trans conformation in 7, which is different from that in complexes 4 (cis and L-shaped), 5 (cis) and 6 (cis). The anion-exchange properties of complex 6 were investigated.

Abstract:The compartmental Schiff base ligands N,N'-ethylenebis(3-hydroxysalicylidene) (H4L) and N,N'-propylene-bis(3-hydroxysalicylidene) (H4L') have been employed in the synthesis of a cyclic tetranuclear Cu(II) complex [Cu-4(L')(2)(MeOH)(3)(H2O)]center dot[Cu-4(L')(2)(MeOH)(3)] (1), a novel octanuclear Cu(II) complex [Cu-8(L-L)(2)(H2O)(4)(mu(2)-H2O)]center dot 3DMF center dot 3H(2)O (2) and a hetero-octanuclear Cu(II)-Fe(III) complex [Cu4Fe4(L)(4)(H2O)(3)(mu(3)-O)(2)]center dot 3DMF center dot 3H(2)O (3). During the formation of the Cu-8 complex (2), a new bis-Schiff base ligand (L-L)(8-) forms via the ortho-para C-C coupling of two H4L ligands. The bicyclic complex (2) is comprised of two cyclic Cu-4 units that are similar to that of complex 1. In the Cu-4 unit, the alternate Cu(II) ions are singly bridged by phenoxo groups. The three complexes display overall antiferromagnetic coupling, and the Cu(II)-Cu(II) magnetic coupling constant falls in the range -117.2 to -473.6 cm(-1) for complexes 1 and 2 corresponding to the bridging Cu-O-phenoxide-Cu bond angles of 124.3-131.0 degrees.

Abstract:A new dinuclear Cu(II) complex, [Cu2L(N-3)(2)] (ClO4)(1.5) . (OH)(0.5) . 2H(2)O . 0.5C(2)H(5)OH (1), of a bis-macrocyclic ligand, 2,6-bis(1, 4, 7, 10-tetraazacyclododecan-10-ylmethyl)-methoxybenzene (L), has been synthesized, characterized and structurally determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex 1 crystallizes in orthorhombic crystal system, Pca2(1) space group with a = 1.5371(3), b = 1.6641(3), c = 3.0950 (6) nm, V = 7.917 (3) nm(3), F-w = 904.62, Z = 8, D-c = 1. 529 g/cm(3), and final R = 0. 0568, wR = 0. 1406 for 10410 observed reflections with I greater than or equal to 2 sigma (I). Both Cu(II) centers in the structure are coordinated by four nitrogen atoms of 1, 4, 7, 10-tetraazacyclododecane (cyclen) and a nitrogen donor of the axial azide anion. Each Cu (H) center is in a square-pyramidal coordination environment, and the intra- and nearest inter-molecular Cu . . . Cu nonbonding distances are 0.9855 and 0.7298 run, respectively. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements in the range of 4.2-300 K indicate that there exists weak intra- and inter-molecular antiferromagnetic coupling between the Cu(H) centers with 2J = -4.2 cm(-1) and Theta = - 0.47 K.

Abstract:The dinuclear Cu(II) complexes [Cu(en)(MAA)(μ-CH3COO)]2 (1) and [Cu(pn)(MAA)(μ-CH3COO)]2 (2) where MAA, en and pn are methacrylate, ethylendiamine and 1,3-propylendiamine, respectively, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The structures of the complexes have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. In the dinuclear complexes 1 and 2 the two copper centers are five-coordinated and exhibit distorted square pyramidal geometries. The theoretical geometries of the studied compounds have been calculated by means of density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p)/LanL2DZ level considering effective core potential (ECP).

Abstract:We herein report five coordination polymers (CPs) and two supramolecular cages based on [MS 4 Cu x ] x −2 (M = W, Mo, x = 1, 2, ... 6) units and N-containing ligands, 9,10-di(1 H -imidazol-1-yl)anthracene ( dia ), 1,6-di(1 H -imidazol-1-yl)pyrene ( dip ), and 1,1′,1′′-(benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(methylene))tris(1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-1-ium) bromide ( bmd ), and 1,1′,1′′-((2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl)tris(methylene))tris(1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-1-ium) ( mbmd ). Compounds 1 and 2 both contain the penta-nuclear [(WS 4 )Cu 4 ] 2+ cluster unit. The four Cu + atoms were arranged in a distorted tetrahedron and rectangle around the (WS 4 ) 2− core in 1 and 2 , respectively, affording a 3-connected unit in 1 and a 2-connected unit in 2 . Compounds 3 , 4 and 5 were built with the tri-topic organic ligand bmd ; 3 and 4 contain penta-nuclear [WS 4 Cu 4 ] 2+ units, and 5 contains the hexa-nuclear [MoS 4 Cu 5 ] 3+ unit. However the connectives of the cluster units in 3 , 4 and 5 and the final helical chain structures were similar. Compound 6 contains a tetra-nuclear [WS 4 Cu 3 I 3 ] 2− unit and positively charged mbmd ligand. The mbmd ligand was in a cis -conformation leading to a supramolecular cage, which accommodated an I − anion as guest. Compound 7 is isostructural to 6 but contains a [WS 4 Cu 3 Cl 3 ] 2− cluster unit, mbmd ligand and a Br − free anion. This work demonstrates that the number and arrangement of Cu + around the (MS 4 ) 2− core can be varied with the synthesis conditions, affording heterothiometallic [(MS 4 )Cu x ] x −2 cluster units of versatile geometries and connectivities for building CPs.

Abstract:Four Cu(II) complexes, the one-dimensional [Cu(HL1)(2)(CuCl4)](n) (1), {[Cu-2(L-1)(2)(N(CN) (2))(CH3OH)](ClO4)}(n) (2), dinuclear [Cu-2(L-2)(2)Cl-2] (3), and two-dimensional layered [Cu-2(L-2) (2)(N(CN)(2))(2)](n) (4) were synthesized by Cu(II) salts (CuCl2 center dot 2H(2)O or Cu(ClO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O), alkanol bidentate ligands trans-2-(1-pyrazolyl) cyclohexanol (HL1) or 3,5-dimethyl-N-hydroxyethyl-pyrazolyl (HL2) together with sodium dicyanamide. For complex 1, the bridging chlorine atoms of the tetrahedral [CuCl4](2-) moieties are located at the Jahn-Teller axis of the elongated octahedral Cu(II), forming an alternate elongated-octahedral-tetrahedral Cu(II) chain complex. For complexes 2, 3 and 4, the alkyl oxygen atoms of the deprotonated ligands HL1 and HL2 bridge two Cu(II) ions, yielding a dinuclear Cu(II) unit [Cu-2(L-x)(2)](2+) (x = 1, 2), and one-or two-dimensional complexes via bridging dicyanamide ligands. Complex 1 shows weak ferromagnetic coupling, whilst complexes 2-4 display strong antiferromagnetic coupling or are even nearly diamagnetic due to the large Cu-O-Cu bond angles.

Abstract:A cyclic hexanuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu6(OH)6(admtrz)6(H2O)5(C2H5OH)2](ClO4)6·4H2O 1, (admtrz = 4-amino-3,5-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazole), has been isolated and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography, which exhibited a strong antiferromagentic exchange in the range of 4-300 K.

Abstract:Seven new metal complexes [Zn2(L)Br2](ClO4)2 (1), [Cu2(L)Br2]Br2·2H2O (2), [Cu2(L)(H2O)2](ClO4)4·1.03H2O (3), [Cu6(L)3(H2O)2Br2(N3)](ClO4)9·2H2O (4), [Cu4(L)2Br4(im)2]Br2·15H2O (5), [Cu2(L)(bpy)2](ClO4)4·2bpy·2H2O (6) and [Cu2(L)(tp)]Br2·6H2O (7) (N3-=azide anion; im−=imdazolate anion; bpy=4,4′-bipyridine; tp2−=terephthalate dianion) have been synthesized by reactions of macrocyclic ligand 3,6,9,12,20,23,26,29-octaazatricyclo[29.3.1.114,18]hexatriaconta-1(34),14,16,18(36),31(35),32-hexaene (L) and metal salts with different counteranion and/or co-ligand. Interestingly, there are [Zn2L]4+/[Cu2L]4+ dinuclear units with different conformations of chair-type in 1, 2, 6 and 7, boat-type in 5 and mixed chair- and boat-types in 3, 4. The complexes 1, 2, 3 and 6 have dinuclear molecular structure, and 4 has dimer of [Cu2L]4+ linked by azide and 5 displays tetranuclear molecular rectangle bridged by imidazolate groups, while 7 has 1D chain structure in which the [Cu2L]4+ units linked by terephthalate anions. The results revealed that the structure, coordination ability and coordination mode of anions and/or co-ligands have great impact on the structure of the complexes.

Abstract:The flexible bidentate ligand m-bitmb [1, 3-bis (1-imidazolylmethyl)-2, 4, 6-trimethylbenzene] assembles with Cu(ClO4)2 · 6H2O to give a complex [Cu2(m-bitmb)4](ClO4)4 · H2O, which crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/n with a = 1.3950(3) nm, b = 2.0742(4) nm, c = 1.3997(3) nm, β = 96.19(3)°, V = 4.026(14) nm3, Z = 2, DC = 1.373 g/cm3, F(000) = 1728, R1 = 0.0598, wR2 = 0.1491, GOOF = 0.906. In the title complex, each ligand m-bitmb adopts cis-mode and binds with the two Cu(II) ions via its two arms and each Cu(II) ion coordinates with four ligands in square planar geometry to form a cage-like supramolecular cation, within which resides a disordered ClO4 -. The other three ClO4 - ions and a H2O molecule are present outside. Weak π - π interactions between the phenyl rings of every two nearest cationic cages lead to the formation of 1D chain along the c axis.

Abstract:A tetranuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu2L]2(ClO4)2 4H2O (1), where H3L = N,N'-bis(4-(3'-formyl-5'-chlorosalicyclidene)iminoethyl)-4-chloro-2,6-bimethyliminophenol, has been synthesized and structurally characterized by ES-MS, IR and X-ray crystallography. The complex is a dimer of two dinuclear copper(II) acylic enantiomorph subunits ([Cu2L]ClO4 2H2O), held together by -, coordination and hydrogen bond interactions. The Cu-Cu separation in each subunit, bridged by one phenoxide, is 3.228 , and the shortest distance of Cu-Cu between the two subunits is 3.252 . There are two crystallographically unique copper(II) environments, one (Cu1) is square-based pyramidal with O3N2 donor set, another (Cu2) square planar with O2N2 donor set. The cyclic voltammogram of the complex shows that it undergoes two stepwise reduction processes, Epc = -0.707 and -0.850 V, respectively. Magnetic measurements in the 2-300 K range indicate strong antiferromagnetic interactions between Cu(II) ions in each subunit with the exchange constant J = -211(2) cm-1. The observation has been rationalized on the basis of the effective magnetic pathway.

Abstract:An azide-bridged polymeric cationic chain complex, [LCu 2 (N 3 ) 2 ] n (ClO 4 ) 2 n ·n(H 2 O)**, where L=the dinucleating macrocyclic ligand bis- p -xylylBISDIEN, has been prepared and characterized by x-ray crystallography, u.v.-vis and i.r. spectra, and by magnetic measurements. The structure consists of cationic azide-bridged [LCu 2 (N 3 ) 2 ] 2+ (unit) chains, non-coordinated perchlorate anions and crystallized water molecules. The azide anion is bound to two copper atoms in neighboring units with an end-to-end bridging mode. In each unit, the copper atoms have a different coordination geometry; Cu(1) is a four-coordinated, distorted square-planar geometry, whereas Cu(2) is a five-coordinated, distorted square-pyramid. The electronic spectra of the title complex differ in anhydrous and in aqueous MeCN solutions, indicating that dissociation and solvation occur in aqueous solutions. The characteristic i.r. absorptions of azides and perchlorates are described. Magnetic moments vary from 2.05 (B.M.) at 300K to␣2.01 (B.M.) at 80K, which suggests that very weak interactions exist between the metals.

Abstract:Three dinuclear Cu II perchlorate complexes of macrocyclic ligands derived from the condensation of sodium 4-X-2,6-diformylphenolate (X=Me, Cl or Bu t ) with 1,5-diamino-3-(8-methylquinolyl)azapentane were prepared by in situ transmetallation with Cu(ClO 4 ) 2 and characterized by physicochemical, spectroscopic and electrochemical methods.

Abstract:Four new copper(II) compounds with an inorganic, adamantane-like core have been prepared and structurally characterized: [(2-aminopyridine) 4 (μ 2 -Br) 6 Cu 4 (μ 4 -O)].(2-aminopyridinium) bromide monohydrate ( 1 ), the open cage structure (2-aminopyridinium) [(2-aminopyridine) 4 (μ 2 -Cl) 5 (Cl) 2 Cu 4 (μ 4 -O)] ( 2 ), bis(2-amino-5-methylpyridinium) [(2-amino-5-methylpyridine) 2 (μ 2 -Cl) 6 (Cl) 2 Cu 4 (μ 4 -O)] ( 3 ) and the co-crystal [(2-amino-5-fluoropyridine) 4 (μ-Cl) 6 Cu 4 (μ 4 -O)] 2 [(2-amino-5-fluoropyridine) 4 Cu 2 Cl 4 ] ( 4 ). All four include additional components in the lattice ranging from a non-coordinated ancillary ligand ( 1 ) to a co-crystallization with a distinct coordination complex ( 4 ). The compounds crystallize as: 1 , triclinic, P -1; 2 , monoclinic, P 2 1 / c ; 3 , monoclinic, P 2 1 / c ; 4 , triclinic, P -1. Analysis of the geometric parameters within the adamantoid cores of the compounds indicates significant structural resilience as parameters are little changed by the presence of additional components in the lattice. Breaking of the central core by coordination of an additional chloride ion in 2 significantly affects the geometry about those two Cu(II) ions but has little effect on other parts of the core.

A Series of One- to Three-Dimensional Copper Coordination Polymers Based on N-Heterocyclic Ligands

Abstract:A family of copper coordination polymers containing different N-heterocyclic ligands, namely [Cu(CN)(dmpyz)](n) (1), [Cu-2(CN)(2)(imz)](n) (2), [Cu-3(CN)(trz)(2)], (3), [Cu-6(CN)(6)(dmtrz)(3)](n) (4), [Cu-2(CN)(5-metta)](n) (5), [Cu-2(CN)(5-phtta)](n) (6), and ([Cu-6(CN)(6)(dmtrz)](2)[Cu-2(CN)(2)(dmtrz)(2)])(n) (7) has been prepared and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 are 11) chain frameworks. Compound 3 is a twofold interpenetrating 21) supra-molecular framework in which the cyanide groups act as bridging ligands to link the copper centers into an unusual bilayer motif with large channels. Compounds 4-6 all possess 31) networks. Compound 4 is constructed by two parts: 21) rectangular-grid layers and (Cu-2(CN)(2)(dmtrz)(2)) building blocks. Compound 5 is built up by X-shaped chains that connect each other in an ABAB arrangement to generate the 31) network. The structure of 6 is a 31) network including one-dimensional square-grid channels, with a shortest Cu2 center dot center dot center dot Cu2A (A: -x + 1, -y + 1, -z) distance of about 2.347(1) angstrom. Compound 7 features a peculiar 3D + 1D network in which 1D guest metal-organic polymer chains are filled in an unusual 3D architecture constructed by double helical host tubes. Compounds 1-7 show a systematic variation in dimensionality from 1D to 3D to 3D + 1D. The luminescence properties of these compounds have been also studied.((c) Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
