Abstract:With the expansion and deepening of scientific research, dual-functional or multifunctional materials are urgently needed to replace those for single application. Herein, a fluorescence sensing system based on an In(III)-organic complex with in situ Lewis acid sites has been constructed, exhibiting high sensitivity for the detection of Fe(III) ions with a low detection limit of 3.95 μM and a short response time of within 10 s. It is noteworthy that the quenched fluorescence of the Fe(III)-incorporated sample could be reopened linearly with an increase of alkalinity, followed by the reactivation of its functionality to identify Fe(III) ions, forming an alternate detection cycle for Fe(III) and pH with off-on-off fluorescent switch characteristics. Considering its unique molecular recognition capability, an advanced three-input (Fe(III), EDTA, and OH-) and two-output (B440 and G489) Boolean logic operation comprising BUFF, NOT, OR, and AND logic gates was integrated, possessing potential applications in intelligent multianalyte sensing systems.

Abstract:Two fluorescent probes 1 and 2 are developed that are capable of measuring two different metal ions under basic and acidic conditions, respectively. These probes contain a fluorophore, whose two forms are interconvertible in acidic and basic solutions and have the potential to measure the concentration of each metal ion in a mixture of caesium-potassium or sodium-potassium ions, respectively. Probe molecules 1 and 2 can also be portrayed as logic gates that function as a combination of one AND and one INHIBIT gate.

Abstract:Here, a novel multi-stimuli-responsive fluorescence probe is developed by incorporating spiropyran group into the coumarin-substituted polydiacetylene (PDA) vesicles. The fluorescence of PDA can be turned on upon heating, and can be quenched upon exposure to UV light irradiation or pH stimuli owing to the fluorescene resonance energy transfer (FRET) between the red-phase PDA and the open merocyanine (MC) form of spiropyran. Moreover, we have designed and experimentally realized a set of logic gate operations for the first time based on the fluorescence modulation of the designed system upon thermal, photo, and pH stimuli. This novel type of resettable logic gates augur well for practical applications in information storage, optical recording, and sensing in complicated microenvironments.

Abstract:Single probe, multiple targets: the design and synthesis of a new probe is described that can readily discriminate Zn(2+) and Cd(2+) with different fluorescence signals. The studies of Job's plot, mass spectroscopy, DFT calculations, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy reveal that the new probe has possible distinct binding modes to Zn(2+) and Cd(2+). This work may open up new opportunities for the development of single fluorescent probes that can sense multiple targets of interest.

Abstract:A bifunctional probe 1 with iminocoumarin scaffold demonstrated different responses for Cu 2+ and Hg 2+ . In fluorescence mode of probe 1 , the intensity at 528 nm was quenched severely upon the addition of Cu 2+ or Hg 2+ . Meanwhile, a new fluorescence band at 574 nm appeared in the case of Hg 2+ . In its UV-Vis absorption mode, significant hypochromic shift for Cu 2+ and bathochromic shift for Hg 2+ occurred, which are in agreement with the observation of distinct color changes. In addition, probe 1 can be used for the construction of a molecular logic gate with NOR and INHIBIT logic functions.

Abstract:A novel fluorescent probe that possess both BODIPY and Rhodamine moieties has been designed for the selective detection of Hg(2+) and Ba(2+) ions on the controlling by a logic gate. The characteristic fluorescence of the Ba(2+)-selective OFF-ON and the Hg(2+)-selective fluorescence bathochromic shift can be observed, and the concept has been used to construct a combinational logic circuit at the molecular level. These results will be useful for further molecular design to mimic the function of the complex logic gates on controlling.

Abstract:Bifunctional fluorescent probes with dual-emission response attract extensive attention. A novel fluorescent probe FP, a hybrid of fluoran and phenothiazine, has been designed and synthesized for selective sensing of Fe3+ and ClO- with dual-emission changes, which involes mechanisms of Fe3+-promoted spirolactone ring opening and ClO--induced oxidation of phenothiazine moiety, respectively. In addition, the detection limits for Fe3+ and ClO- were estimated to be 49.1 and 35.9 nM, respectively. Abstract:A novel fluorescent probe 1 has been synthesized by a microwave reaction, and its ion-binding and fluorescence-sensing properties have been investigated under different solvent conditions. The analysis results indicated that probe 1 can act as a multiple analysis probe by simply tuning the solvent. Probe 1 exhibited high selectively toward Hg2+ through fluorescence quenching in H2O/DMF. In H2O/1,4-dioxane solution, probe 1 selectively recognized and discriminated between Ag+ and Hg2+ displaying ratiometric behaviour. Moreover, probe 1 readily recognized the anion F- via the ratiometric fluorescent mode in CH3CN. Furthermore, distinct colour changes were observed under UV light, which can be seen by the naked eye and thus used for distinguishing Hg2+, Ag+ and F- from the other ions screened herein using probe 1. Interestingly, almost pure white light emission was evident by simply tuning the F- anion-concentration, which makes this system a potential candidate for smart and tunable luminescent materials. Abstract:Two kinds of fluorescent probes DFBT and DFABT, and their corresponding water-soluble compounds WDFBT and WDFABT, based on the trimers containing a benzo[2,1,3]thiadiazole moiety and two fluorene moieties are synthesized. Their luminescent behavior towards Hg2+ ions and other various metal ions in organic and water solutions are studied in detail via absorption and emission spectroscopy. All these probes show a selective "on-off-type" fluorescent response to Hg2+ ions in solution over other metal ions with a maximum detection limit of 10-7 M. Importantly, the probe type can be changed from irreversible to reversible by altering the bridge mode between the functional units from C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C triple bond to C-C single bond. Their detection mechanisms towards Hg2+ are studied in detail via mass spectrometry and Job plots, which are attributed to irreversible chemical reaction for DFABT and WDFABT and a reversible coordination reaction for DFBT and WDFBT respectively. Our research results about this kind of organic fluorescent probe provide valuable information to the future design of practical Hg2+ fluorescent probes.
Application of small-molecule fluorescent probe with dual fluorescence emission

Abstract:The invention belongs to the technical field of molecular detection, and particularly relates to application of a small-molecular fluorescent probe with double fluorescence emission. When the small-molecule fluorescent probe interacts with double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), double fluorescence emission occurs under the excitation condition of an excitation wavelength of 350-550 nm, with the strongest fluorescence emission peaks being 640+/-5 nm and 540+/-5 nm, respectively. Due to the unique molecular structure, the fluorescent probe molecule shows unique double-fluorescence emission phenomenon wheninteracting with the dsDNA, and the phenomenon is utilized to apply the fluorescent probe molecule to the preparation of a specific recognition reagent of the dsDNA, so that a technical problem of acumbersome and complex dsDNA detection process in the prior art is solved. The fluorescent probe has a structure as shown in formula (I): wherein R is: or n is an integer of 1-12.

Abstract:Present here is a new dual ratiometric luminescent probe D which is a trichromatic and white-light-emitting metal-organic framework (MOF) composite facilely obtained by incorporating red/green-emitting complex modules into a blue-emitting MOF. Probe D exhibits remarkable capabilities of sensing different volatile organic solvents (VOSs) via 2D code recognition of the two VOS-dependent MOF ligand-to-module ratios of the emission-peak intensities. For specific VOSs, the resultant luminescent color changes from the starting white color are sharp enough to be visible to the naked eye. Remarkably, D can differentiate solution-phase nitroaromatics and metal ions by recording the evolution of the two ratios during titration processes, enabling an unusual 3D code recognition using the titrant amount as the third dimension for the first time. D also can be used to detect dinoseb, Fe3+ and Al3+ ions quantitatively by analysis of the ratios with detection limits as low as 0.050, 0.41, and 0.12 ppm, respectively. Clearly, such a self-referencing trichromatic probe can maximize the output information and significantly enhance the detection selectivity and sensitivity via multi-dimensional sensing, and has great potentials for practical applications.

Abstract:Dual-excitation ratiometric fluorescent probes allow the measurement of fluorescence intensities at two excitation wavelengths, which should provide a built-in correction for environmental effects. However, most of the small-molecule dual-excitation ratiometric probes that have been reported thus far have shown rather limited separation between the excitation wavelengths (2070 nm) and/or a very small molar absorption coefficient at one of the excitation wavelengths. These shortcomings can lead to cross-excitation and thus to errors in the measurement of fluorescence intensities and ratios. Herein, we report a FRET-based molecular strategy for the construction of small-molecule dual-excitation ratiometric probes in which the donor and acceptor excitation bands exhibit large separations between the excitation wavelengths and comparable excitation intensities, which is highly desirable for determining the fluorescence intensities and signal ratios with high accuracy. Based on this strategy, we created a coumarinrhodamine FRET platform that was then employed to develop the first class of FRET-based dual-excitation ratiometric pH probes that have two well-resolved excitation bands (excitation separations>160 nm) and comparable excitation intensities. In addition, these pH probes may be considered as in a kind of secured ratioing mode. As a further application of these pH probes, the dual-excitation ratiometric pH probes were transformed into the first examples of photocaged dual-excitation ratiometric pH probes to improve the spatiotemporal resolution. It is expected that the modular nature of our FRET-based molecular strategy should render it applicable to other small-molecule dual-dye energy-transfer systems based on diverse fluorescent dyes for the development of a wide range of dual-excitation ratiometric probes with outstanding spectral features, including large separations between the excitation wavelengths and comparable excitation intensities.

Abstract:A new fluorescent probe, (E)-3-(3-(4-([2,2':6',2 "-terpyridin]-4'-yl)phenyl)acryloyl)-7-(diethylamino)2H-chromen-2-one (ZC-F4), composed of coumarin as the fluorophore and terpyridine as the receptor was designed and synthesized. This probe showed good selectivity and sensitivity towards Zn2+ even at the ppb level with significant variation of emission wavelength (more than 100 nm shifts) after combination with Zn2+. One can observe that the emission colour changed from green to red. A Job's plot test suggested a 1 : 1 stoichiometry between ZC-F4 and Zn2+, and the theoretical calculation based on density functional theory has been carried out to gain an insight into the sensing mechanism. Furthermore, imaging of Zn2+ in cells was also performed to test its feasibility in biology. This fluorescence probe should be a promising candidate for applications in cell-imaging, environment protection, water treatment and safety inspection.

Abstract:We developed a dual-target responsive sensor for label-free light-up fluorescent detection of protons (H(+)) and silver ions (Ag(+)) using an "OR'' logic gate. Berberine, a cost-effective and non-toxic indicator, partially intercalates the formed triplex DNA in the presence of H(+) or Ag(+), generating enhanced fluorescence. The designed Ag(+) probe has high selectivity and desirable sensitivity, which is necessary for practical use. The robust "OR" logic gate is capable of a rapid and reversible response to the H(+) and/or Ag(+) inputs.
