Abstract:Khmelnitskaya and Yanovskaya (Math Methods Oper Res 66(2):255–261, 2007) characterized the Owen value for TU games with a coalition structure by the axioms of efficiency, marginality, symmetry across coalitions and symmetry within coalitions. Symmetry across components requires that components with equally productive in the game between components obtain the same total payoffs of their members. In this note, inspired by Casajus (Econ Lett 169:59–62, 2018), we weaken the symmetry across components to the sign symmetry across components, which requires only that equally productive components obtain the same sign of total payoffs. We extend the Khmelnitskaya-Yanovskaya's characterization by using efficiency, marginality, sign symmetry across coalitions, and sign symmetry within coalitions, similarly as it was done by Casajus (Econ Lett 169:59–62, 2018) for the Shapley value for general TU games. At last, we extend the main result to the Winter value for games with level structure

Abstract:Values for cooperative games with transferable utility were studied from probability view.Different cooperative game values were compared by the deconstruction of the cooperative game value formation process.A new value for cooperative games was proposed.The Shapley value and Banzhaf value were proven to be both its special cases.Axiomatic characters were studied from the probabilistic viewpoint.Total loss is irrelevant to the measurements of players' contribution in cooperative games.And the essential differences between cooperative game values were revealed,providing a selection criterion for cooperative game values under different circumstances.In the final part,an example was given to exhibit the two-step probabilistic calculation method,which is highly efficient and can unify different values' calculation procedures.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the $\Gamma$ value, a new value for cooperative games with transferable utility. We also provide an axiomatic characterization of the $\Gamma$ value based on a property concerning the so-called necessary players. A necessary players of a game is one without which the characteristic function is zero. We illustrate the performance of the $\Gamma$ value in a particular cost allocation problem that arises when the owners of the apartments in a building plan to install an elevator and share its installation cost; in the resulting example we compare the proposals of the $\Gamma$ value, the equal division value and the Shapley value in two different scenarios. In addition, we propose an extension of the $\Gamma$ value for cooperative games with transferable utility and with a coalition structure. Finally, we provide axiomatic characterizations of the coalitional $\Gamma$ value and of the Owen and Banzhaf-Owen values using alternative properties concerning necessary players.

Unitary Owen points in cooperative lot-sizing models with backlogging

Abstract:Cooperative lot-sizing models with backlogging and heterogeneous costs are studied in Guardiola et al. (2020). In this model several firms participate in a consortium aiming at satisfying their demand over the planing horizon with minimal operation cost. Each firm uses the best ordering channel and holding technology provided by the participants in the consortium. The authors show that there are always fair allocations of the overall operation cost among the firms so that no group of agents profit from leaving the consortium. This paper revisits those cooperative lot-sizing models and presents a new family of cost allocations, the unitary Owen points. This family is an extension of the Owen set which enjoys very good properties in production-inventory proble, introduced by Guardiola et al. (2008). Necessary and sufficient conditions are provided for the unitary Owen points to be fair allocations. In addition, we provide empirical evidence, throughout simulation, showing that the above condition is fulfilled in most cases. Additionally, a relationship between lot-sizing games and a certain family of production-inventory games, through Owen's points of the latter, is described. This interesting relationship enables to easily construct a variety of fair allocations for cooperative lot-sizing models.

Optimistic and pessimistic approaches for cooperative games

Abstract:Cooperative game theory aims to study how to divide a joint value created by a set of players. These games are often studied through the characteristic function form with transferable utility, which represents the value obtainable by each coalition. In the presence of externalities, there are many ways to define this value. Various models that account for different levels of player cooperation and the influence of external players on coalition value have been studied. Although there are different approaches, typically, the optimistic and pessimistic approaches provide sufficient insights into strategic interactions. This paper clarifies the interpretation of these approaches by providing a unified framework. We show that making sure that no coalition receives more than their (optimistic) upper bounds is always at least as difficult as guaranteeing their (pessimistic) lower bounds. We also show that if externalities are negative, providing these guarantees is always feasible. Then, we explore applications and show how our findings can be applied to derive results from the existing literature.

Abstract:Abstract A global (cooperative) game describes the utility that the whole set of players generates depending on the coalition structure they form. These games were introduced by Gilboa and Lehrer (Int J Game Theory 20:129–147, 1991) who proposed and characterized a generalization of the Shapley value. We introduce two families of point valued solutions that contain the Gilboa–Lehrer value. We characterize each family by means of reasonable properties, which are related to the ones used by Gilboa and Lehrer.

Abstract:We develop a measure-theoretic framework for dynamic Shapley values in Banach spaces, extending classical cooperative game theory to continuous-time, infinite-dimensional settings. We prove the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to stochastic differential equations modeling competence evolution in Banach spaces, establishing sample path continuity and moment estimates. The dynamic Shapley value is rigorously defined as a càdlàg stochastic process with an axiomatic characterization. We derive a martingale representation for this process and establish its asymptotic properties, including a strong law of large numbers and a functional central limit theorem under α-mixing conditions. This framework provides a rigorous basis for analyzing dynamic value attribution in abstract spaces, with potential applications to economic and game-theoretic models.

Abstract:Valuation problems, such as feature interpretation, data valuation and model valuation for ensembles, become increasingly more important in many machine learning applications. Such problems are commonly solved by well-known game-theoretic criteria, such as Shapley value or Banzhaf value. In this work, we present a novel energy-based treatment for cooperative games, with a theoretical justification by the maximum entropy framework. Surprisingly, by conducting variational inference of the energy-based model, we recover various game-theoretic valuation criteria through conducting one-step fixed point iteration for maximizing the mean-field ELBO objective. This observation also verifies the rationality of existing criteria, as they are all attempting to decouple the correlations among the players through the mean-field approach. By running fixed point iteration for multiple steps, we achieve a trajectory of the valuations, among which we define the valuation with the best conceivable decoupling error as the Variational Index. We prove that under uniform initializations, these variational valuations all satisfy a set of game-theoretic axioms. We experimentally demonstrate that the proposed Variational Index enjoys lower decoupling error and better valuation performance on certain synthetic and real-world valuation problems.

Abstract:Zero-sum stochastic games are parameterized by payoffs, transitions, and possibly a discount rate. In this article, we study how the main solution concepts, the discounted and undiscounted values, vary when these parameters are perturbed. We focus on the marginal values, introduced by Mills in 1956 in the context of matrix games—that is, the directional derivatives of the value along any fixed perturbation. We provide a formula for the marginal values of a discounted stochastic game. Further, under mild assumptions on the perturbation, we provide a formula for their limit as the discount rate vanishes and for the marginal values of an undiscounted stochastic game. We also show, via an example, that the two latter differ in general. Abstract:In this paper, we propose a new efficient value for transferable utility cooperative games with a coalition structure. It first assigns to every player his Aumann–Drèze value and then allocates the remainder of the worth of the grand coalition among players equally. As it is identical with the Aumann–Drèze value for coalitional games with a singleton coalition structure, we call it the egalitarian efficient extension of the Aumann–Drèze value. We provide three axiomatizations of it and compare it with other well-known efficient coalitional values, especially the Owen value and the two-step Shapley value.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the equal surplus division value for cooperative games with a level structure, which is a sequence of coalition structures becoming coarser and coarser. We propose three axiomatizations of the value. Among them, the first two use different variations of the recent population solidarity axiom, and the third one invokes a special reduced game consistency axiom. Due to the existence of a level structure, our axioms impose special restrictions on the players we focus. We show that our value can be characterized with these axioms and other variations of well-known axioms, such as efficiency, standardness, and quotient game property. Besides characterizing the value, we also connect it to the recent field of ordered tree cooperative games, wherein we find that the iterative value can be viewed as a special case of our value.

Abstract:We develop a resource-theoretical approach that allows us to quantify values of two-player, one-round cooperative games with quantum inputs and outputs, as well as values of quantum probabilistic hypergraphs. We analyse the quantum game values arising from the type hierarchy of quantum no-signalling correlations, establishing tensor norm expressions for each of the correlation types. As a consequence, we provide metric characterisations of state convertibility via LOSR and LOCC.En route, we obtain an alternative description of the maximal tensor products of ternary rings of operators.

Abstract:In this paper, we compare the value of zero-sum stochastic games under optimal strategies (that are, for single-controller stochastic games, stationary) to the commonly used time-independent strategies ("static strategies"). Our findings are summarized in a series of theorems which provide the lower bound on the optimality of the static strategy under different assumptions. These bounds can be used to assess whether the additional computational complexity is worth the extra payoff gain or, symmetrically, assess the price of playing sub-optimal but simple strategies when stationary ones are forbidden.

Abstract:In this paper we focus on restricted cooperation modeled by TU-games with a prior unions and a communication graph. We deal with the two structures in a comprehensive way by considering two potential combined effects of them, called integration and limitation. While the former makes it possible for sets of players who are unconnected in the graph but intersect with same unions to cooperate, the latter indicates that cooperation only occurs among players who are connected in the graph and within the same union. The two partial cooperative relationships resulting from the two effects are visualized by the integration graph and the limitation graph respectively. Then, we introduce the integrated (limited) Myerson value by applying the Myerson value to TU-games with the integration (limitation) graph. Finally, two sets of comparable axiomatizations are provided to show the differences and similarities between the two values.

Abstract:Considering multi-level cooperations appearing in the practical management,using the idea of the multi-level coalition structures,this paper proposes the concept of the τ-value for a cooperative game with multi-level coalition structures and its solving method,discusses its existence conditions and some important properties.Furthermore,it is proven that the cooperative game with multi-level coalition structures has the τ-value if it is convex and hereby the computational process of the τ-value can be simplified.Finally,a bankruptcy problem is offered to illustrate the effectiveness,rationality and practicability of the τ-value.The research results show that the τ-value for a cooperative game with multi-level coalition structures is a generalization of that for the cooperative game and extends that for the coalitional cooperative game.

Abstract:We investigate Gately's solution concept for cooperative games with transferable utilities. Gately's conception introduced a bargaining solution that minimises the maximal quantified ``propensity to disrupt'' the negotiation process of the players over the allocation of the generated collective payoffs. Gately's solution concept is well-defined for a broad class of games. We also consider a generalisation based on a parameter-based quantification of the propensity to disrupt. Furthermore, we investigate the relationship of these generalised Gately values with the Core and the Nucleolus and show that Gately's solution is in the Core for all regular 3-player games. We identify exact conditions under which generally these Gately values are Core imputations for arbitrary regular cooperative games. Finally, we investigate the relationship of the Gately value with the Shapley value.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to extend the concept of the solidarity value to interval-valued (IV) cooperative games and develop a fast and simplified method for computing the IV solidarity values for a special class of IV cooperative games under some weaker conditions. In the method, we find a size (or coalition) monotonicity-like condition so that we can compute the IV solidarity values of a special class of IV cooperative games via determining their lower and upper bounds by utilizing the lower and upper bounds of the IV coalitions' values, respectively. In addition, some important and useful properties of IV solidarity values are discussed and the feasibility and applicability of the method proposed in this paper are verified with numerical examples as well as comparison analysis with existing methods is conducted.
