Abstract:A 50-day-old infant was referred to our hospital for recurrent pneumonia. Worsening opacification of the left hemithorax was noted radiographically. Multidetector computed tomography showed the aberrant left pulmonary artery originating from the root of the right pulmonary artery and passing between the trachea and the esophagus (Fig 1, arrow), which compressed the right bronchus (Fig 2, short arrow). The left pulmonary atelectasis was severe, with a blind-ending rudimentary bronchus (Fig 2, long arrow). Multiple branched bronchial structures in the left pulmonary were shown to rise from the left side of the esophagus (Fig 2). The suspected diagnosis of esophageal lung was suggested and ascertained by contrast esophageal radiography, which showed the primitive bronchial branching adjust to a fistula rising from the esophageal (Fig 3, arrow).Fig 2View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload (PPT)Fig 3View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload (PPT) Esophageal lung is a bronchopulmonary foregut anomaly in which a lung is connected to the gastrointestinal tract [1Sugandhi N. This malformation usually involves a lobe or the entire unilateral lung with bronchus-like structures in the pulmonary parenchyma. Esophageal lung combined with pulmonary sling is extremely rare. In this case, multidetector computed tomography demonstrated three-dimensional reconstruction of the vascular and airway structures in the mediastinum.
