Abstract:A series of functional cation-regulated isopolymolybdate-based organic-inorganic hybrid compounds, Na2H2[Mo4O12(C8H17O5N)2]·10H2O (1), Na2[M(Bis-tris)(H2O)]2[Mo7O24]·10H2O [M = Cu, 2; Ni, 3; Co, 4; Zn, 5; Bis-tris = 2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)-2,2',2″-nitrilotriethanol], and (NH4)2[M(Bis-tris)(H2O)]2[Mo7O24]·6H2O (M = Zn, 6; Cu, 7), were synthesized and characterized toward advanced molecular catalyst design. Compound 1 is a covalently bonded adduct, and its self-assembly process can be probed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Compounds 2-7 are polyoxometalate (POM)-based hybrids containing classic heptamolybdate anions and complex cations with Bis-tris ligands. All of these compounds showed remarkable catalytic effects for selective sulfide oxidation. To the best of our knowledge, compound 5 presents the best catalytic activity so far among the reported hybrid materials with common easily synthesized small-molecule POM clusters and also exhibits outstanding reliability. The conclusion of the catalytic effect is drawn from the results that Zn-based compounds have better catalytic effects than other transition-metal-containing compounds and the compound constructed by Na+ has higher catalytic activity than that constructed by NH4+. The mechanism studies show that the improvements of the catalytic performance are caused by the synergy between classic heptamolybdate anions and complex cations. ESI-MS data and UV-vis spectra revealed that the POM anions can form intermediate peroxomolybdenum units during catalytic reaction. Further, the combination of the substrate thioanisole with complex cations was characterized by NMR experiments and UV-vis spectra. Thus, a new synergistic mechanism of anions and cations is proposed in which the activated thioanisole is used as a nucleophile to attack the peroxomolybdenum bonds, and this provides a new strategy in the design of reliable POM-based catalysts.

Abstract:The Mo≡N bond is conjugated with the organic segment in the novel molecular organic-inorganic hybrid materials that have been obtained by Pd-catalyzed coupling of an iodo-functionalized hexamolybdate anion and an alkyne (see scheme; Ar=4-methylphenyl,3-5-di(tert-butyl)phenyl). The interaction between the polyoxometalate cluster and the organic conjugated system is particularly apparent from the strong red-shifted absorption in the UV/Vis spectrum.

Abstract:Two new isopolymolybdate-based metal-organic complexes, [Cu-2(2-ptz)(2)(Mo4O14)(0.5)] (1) and [Cu-3(OH)(2)(3-ptz)(4)(-H4Mo8O26)(H2O)(4)]10H(2)O (2) (2-ptzH=5-(2-pyridyl)-1H-tetrazole, 3-ptzH=5-(3-pyridyl)-1H-tetrazole), constructed from isomeric ligands with different N-donor sites were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. In 1, each [Mo4O14](4-) cluster connected with six neighboring [Mo4O14](4-) clusters through six binuclear [Cu-2(2-ptz)(2)](2+) subunits to yield a 2-D layer. In 2, bidentate inorganic [Mo8O26](4-) anions link the trinuclear [Cu-3(OH)(2)(3-ptz)(4)] clusters to construct a 1-D chain. Adjacent chains connect through Mo-N bonds between the [Mo8O26](4-) anions and pyridyl groups from the trinuclear clusters to form a 2-D layer. The effect of the N-donor sites of the rigid isomeric ligands on the structures of 1 and 2 was discussed. The electrochemical properties and photocatalytic activities of 1 and 2 have also been studied. [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:Seven new compounds based on polyoxometalates and metal halide clusters have been synthesized and characterized by IR, XPS, UV-vis, XRD, elemental analyses and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Compounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 are hybrids based on polyoxometalates and ennea-nuclear metal halide clusters, which are isomorphous to the compounds we reported recently. Compounds 5-7 are new examples of hybrids based on polyoxometalates and metal halide clusters, of which compounds 5 and 6 are the first examples of hybrids based on polyoxometalates and a new kind of hepta-nuclear metal halide cluster and compound 7 is the first example of hybrid based on polyoxometalates and octakaideca-nuclear metal halide clusters. In addition, compounds 2, 3 and 4 are the first examples of hybrids based on polyoxometalates and metal bromide clusters, and compounds 5 and 6 are the second examples of hybrids based on polyoxometalates and metal iodine clusters. Furthermore, compound 7 is the first example of compounds based on POMs and metal halide extended structures.
Two polyoxomolybdate-tuned hybrids composed of tripodal star-like ligand copper complexes

Abstract:Two POM-tuned hybrids containing tripodal star-like ligand copper complexes, [CuII3(H2O)5(tib)2(P2Mo5O23)]·2H2O (1) and [CuI2(Htib)2(PMo11VIMoVO40)]·H2O (2) (tib=1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene), have been hydrothermally synthesized. In compound 1, a 2D wave-like layer is constructed from concave belts bridged by P2Mo5 polyoxoanions in a “hand-in-hand” mode, extending to a 3D supramolecular framework via hydrogen bonding interactions. Compound 2 shows a 1D ladder-like chain formed by [Cu(tib)] chains acting as two sides of the ladder and PMo12 anions acting as middle rails, resulting in a 3D supramolecular structure through hydrogen bonding interactions. The steric hindrance of polyoxoanions, the valence states of copper ions and the coordination modes of tib ligands co-affect together the final structures of title compounds. The electrochemical properties of compounds 1 and 2 are investigated.

Abstract:Six new hybrid compounds based on polyoxometalates and transition metal complexes, [SiW12O40][Ag-4(2,2'-bpy)(4)(4,4'-bpy)(3)]center dot 2H(2)O (1), [SiMo12O40][Cu(2,2'-bpy)(H4,4'-bpy)(2)(H2O)][H4,4-bpy] (2), [PMo12V2O42][Cd-2(Phen)(2)(4,4'-bpy)(2)(H2O)(2)(C2O4)]center dot 2H(2)O (3), [PMo12V2O42][Cu-2(4,4'-bpy)(2)][Cu-2(Phen)(4,4'-bpy)(2)]center dot 3H(2)O (4), [SiMo12V2O42][Cu-2(Phen)(2)(4,4'-bpy)](2) (5) and [GeMo12V2O42][Cu-2(Phen)(2)(4,4'-bpy)](2) (6) (bpy = bipyridine, Phen = phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized. Compound 1 contains a discrete tetranuclear silver-2,2'-bpy-4,4'-bpy complex; compound 2 is the first example where the polyoxometalate supports a metal-aqua-2,2'-bpy-4,4'-bpy complex; it should be noted that the complex contains a 2,2'-bpy and two 4,4'-bpy ligands; compound 3 is the first hybrid compound based on polyoxometalates and metal-aqua-4,4'-bpy-oxalic-phenanthroline complexes; and compound 4 is a novel hybrid compound based on polyoxometalates, extended metal-4,4'-bpy complexes and extended metal-4,4'-bpy-phenanthroline complexes together. Compounds 5 and 6 are isomorphous and isostructural; both exhibit a supramolecular structure constructed from bicapped Keggin POMs and metal-4,4'-bpy-phenanthroline complexes.

Abstract:Three inorganic- organic hybrids based on polyoxometalate (POM), [Cu-6(bbtz)(6)(HPM12O40)]center dot 2H(2)O (M = Mo, 1: W, 2) and [Cu-6(trz)(2)(bbtz)(2)(SiW12O40)] (3) (trz = 1-H-1,2,4-triazole, bbtz = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and structurally characterized. Through the use of the flexible ligand bbtz, isostructural compounds 1 and 2 with interpenetrating Structures were obtained. In compound 1, ladder-like chains exist, in which the PMo12 anions act as "middle rails". These chains are linked by wave-like [Cu(bbtz)](n)(n+) lines to construct a three-dimensional (3D) framework. Two Such Frameworks penetrate each other to construct a 2-fold interpenetrating structure. By introducing the rigid ligand trz, Compound 3 with an un-interpenetrating structure is obtained. In compound 3, two-dimensional (2 D) (6 3)2 metal organic framework (MOF) layers exist, which are linked by Keggin anions to construct a 3D (4(4).6(2))(6(3))(2) framework. The differences between these compounds should be ascribed to the introduction of the rigid molecule trz that plays a role in restraining the formation of interpenetrating structures.

Abstract:A polyoxometalate [Co(phen)3][Co(en)3][Co(en)2(H2O)2][Co(en)2]0.5[[image omitted]O40(VIVO)2] center dot 6H2O (1) (en = ethylenediamine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, electron paramagnetic resonance, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and thermogravimetry. The structure is an interesting 3-D supramolecular network containing bi-capped Keggin-type molybdenum-vanadium clusters with transition metal complexes generated in situ under mild hydrothermal conditions. Compound 1 contains four different counteractions being coordinated complexes of cobalt. The magnetic properties of 1 have also been studied in the temperature range of 4-300 K, and its magnetic susceptibility obeys the Curie-Weiss law, showing ferromagnetic coupling.

Abstract:Through tuning different kinds of polyoxometalates (POMs), four POM-based inorganicorganic hybrid compounds with different dimensionalities, namely [(H2L)(2)(Mo8O26)] (1), [(Cu2L6)-L-II(P2W24O79)center dot 4H(2)O]center dot 7H(2)O (2), {(Cu2L2)-L-II(mu(2)-OH)[CrMo6(OH)(6)O-18]center dot 4H(2)O}center dot 4H(2)O (3), and {(Cu2Cu2L2)-Cu-I-L-II(mu(3)-OH)(2)[CrMo6(OH)(5)O-19]center dot 6H(2)O}center dot 4H(2)O (4) [L = 1,4-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamido)benzene], have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR spectroscopy, TG analysis, powder XRD and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Single-crystal X-ray analyses reveal that compound 1 exhibits a two-dimensional (2D) supramolecular network, which is constructed from protonated L ligands and [Mo8O26](4-) anions through hydrogen bonding interactions. Compound 2 is a 1D hybrid chain based on an uncommon inorganic [P2W24O79](4-) chain and Y-shaped (CuL3)(2+) subunits. Compound 3 shows a 2D network constructed from 1D inorganic Cu-2-CrMo6 chains and bidentate L ligands, which is obtained at pH = 4.1. When the pH was adjusted to 4.8, compound 4 is obtained which exhibits a 4-connected {6(6)} 3D framework. The CrMo6 anions are connected by adjacent [(Cu2Cu2II)-Cu-I(mu(3)-OH)(2)(H2O)(6)](4+) subunits to form 1D Cu-4-CrMo6 inorganic chains, which are further extended by L ligands to construct a 3D network. The effect of different types of polyanions and pH values on the assembly and various structures of the title compounds has been discussed. Furthermore, the electrochemical properties of 1 and 2, and the photocatalytic properties of 2 and 3 under different conditions have been investigated.
Significant Surface Modification of Polyoxometalate by Smart Silver-tetrazolate Units

Abstract:Two interesting hybrids based on polyoxome-talates (POMs) and silver-tetrazolate subunits, H[Ag-11(pytz)(6)(H2O)(3)(P2W18O62)]center dot H2O (1), and H[Ag-17(pytz)(12)(H2O)(6) (PMo12O40)(2)] (2) pytz = 5-(2-pyridyl)tetrazolate), have been synthesized and structurally characterized. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the periphery of the Wells Dawson POMs contains 16 Ag-pytz subunits in compound 1, which represents the highest connection of the POMs up to now. In the crystal engineering point of view, all subunits, Ag atoms, POMs, and ligands, exhibit rich and novel coordination geometries, which facilitate the formation of the highest coordination number of the POMs. Compound 2 exhibits a complicated (6,12) connecting network with (3(6)4(6)5(3))(3(18)4(30)5(15)6(3)) topology and possesses close-packed structure due to the complementary coordination mode of PMo12a and PMo12b. To the best of our knowledge, this is a scarce coordination mode in one crystal. In addition, the luminescent properties and electrochemical behaviors of these compounds are discussed.

Abstract:A new compound [Zn(phen)(2)](2)[(PMo8V4V2O42)-V-VI-V-V-O-IV][Zn(phen)(2)(H2O)](2)[(PMo8V4V2O42)-V-VI-V-V-O-IV] center dot 7H(2)O (phen =phenanthroline) has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR, TG analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/C, a = 21.609(4) angstrom, b =16.537(3) angstrom, c =21.279(4) angstrom, alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 100.25(3)degrees, gamma = 90 degrees, V = 7483(3) angstrom(3), Z = 2. The basic building unit in 1 is the [PMo8V6O42] cluster. The most remarkable structural feature of 1 is that there exist two distinct [PMo8V6O42] clusters. One is covalently linked by [Zn(phen)(2)] complexes to form a 2D covalent layer, the other supports two [Zn(phen)(2)(H2O)] complexes forming a discrete bisupporting structure. It is interesting that discrete bisupporting clusters locate in the space of two adjacent covalently layers to form a 3D supramolecular framework.

Abstract:Four new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds based on the polyoxoanion [Co2Mo10H4O38](6-), namely [Zn-2(H2O)(5)(4,4'-bipy)(3)]H-2[Co2Mo10H4O38]center dot 5H(2)O 1, [Zn-2(H2O)(2)(bpe)(3)]H-2[Co2Mo10H4O38] 2, [Zn(H2O)(4)(H(2)bpp)(2)] [Co2Mo10H4O38]center dot 2H(2)O 3 and [Zn-3(Trz)(6)(H2O)(6)][Co2Mo10O38H6]center dot 12H(2)O 4 (4,4'-bipyridine = 4,4'-bipy, 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane = bpe, 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)propane = bpp, 1,2,4-triazole = Trz), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, TG analysis, solid diffuse reflective spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal analysis reveals that compound 1 exhibits a 1D staggered ladder-like chain constructed from [Co2Mo10H4O38](6-) and zinc-4,4'-bipy complexes. Compound 2 shows a 1D zig-zag polymeric chain by the linkage of zinc-bpe complexes and [Co2Mo10H4O38](6-). In compound 3, [Co2Mo10H4O38](6-) units are linked by zinc ions to form a 1D inorganic chain, protonated H(2)bpp molecules can be connected together by directional hydrogen-bonding interactions to construct a 3D supramolecular framework. Compound 4 consists of linear trinuclear zinc units bridging six Trz ligands and a [Co2Mo10H4O38](6-) unit as the counter anion, extensive hydrogen bonds exist in the clusters forming a 3D supramolecular framework. Compounds 1-2 represent the first extended organic-inorganic hybrid structures based on Evans-Showell-type POMs. These compounds act as heterogeneous Lewis acid catalysts not only for the cyanosilylation of different carbonyl compounds with trimethylsilyl cyanide but also for recovery and reuse without displaying any significant loss of activity.

Abstract:Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a class of polyanions that have fixed metal–oxygen frameworks composed of early transition metals in high oxidation states (most commonly VV, MoVI and WVI). The diversity in composition and configuration endows POMs with fascinating chemical and physical properties, as well as prospective applications in photochromic or electrochromic materials, catalysts, nano-structural materials, medicines and so on. In order to develop more advanced materials based on POMs, a lot of effort has been devoted to the exploration of new types of POMs and combining POMs with other functional units through non-covalent modifications or covalent bonding. Among these delicate studies, integrating inorganic POMs with organic polymers into diverse hybrids through covalent linking is a quite interesting field. We present here a perspective review on the synthesis of POM–polymer hybrids (PPHs) based on covalent modifications, their hierarchical structures and potential applications.
Two compounds constructed from Strandberg-type polyoxoanions, metals and organic ligands

Abstract:Two new hybrid compounds, [Cu(1)(phen)(H2O)][Cu(2)(phen)(H2O)]([Cu(3)](0.25) (H2O)][P2Mo5O23]center dot 3.75H(2)O (1) and [Cu(en)(2)](1.5)[P2Mo5O23](2)center dot(enH(2))(3)center dot 2H(2)O (2) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, en = ethylenediamine), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), powder XRD analyses, TG analyses, cyclic voltammogram analyses, elemental analyses, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that the two compounds have a 1-D chain structure formed by Strandbergtype POMs and TMCs with -A-B-C-B-A-B-C-B-linking mode, then further extend into a 2-D layer structure through pi center dot center dot center dot pi or hydrogen bond interactions.
