Abstract:The alphaproteobacterial strain JLT2003 T was isolated from surface seawater off the coast of Guishan island, Taiwan. The strain was Gram negative, ovoid or coccoid, non-motile and formed pink colonies on marine agar 2216 (MA; DIFCO) medium. The dominant fatty acids were C 18:1 ω7c, cyclo C 19:0 ω8c, and C 16:0 . The polar lipid profile consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol. The major respiratory ubiquinone was Q-10. The DNA G+C content was 62.3 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain was most closely related to Pontibaca methylaminivorans GRP21 T with 94.8% similarity. The isolate was distinguishable from members of the family Rhodobacteraceae based on phenotypic and biochemical characteristics. On the basis of the taxonomic data presented, strain JLT2003 T is considered to represent a novel species of a new genus, for which the name Oceaniovalibus guishaninsula gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Oceaniovalibus guishaninsula is JLT2003 T (=JCM 17765 T = CGMCC 1.10827 T ).

Abstract:Exiguobacterium sp. strain JLM-2 is a thermophilic bacterium isolated from deep-sea ferromanganese (FeMn) nodules. The estimated genome of this strain is 2.9 Mb, with a G + C content of 48.32%. It has a novel circular 15,570-bp plasmid. The draft genome sequence may provide useful information about Mn-microbe interactions and the genetic basis for tolerance to environment stresses.

Abstract:Parvularcula oceani JLT2013T is a novel member of the genus Parvularcula within the order ‘Parvularculales’. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of a deep-sea bacterium P. oceani JLT2013T. The genome comprises 3,354,504bp with a G+C content of 67.44% and includes 3141 protein-coding genes and 42 tRNA genes. The genome contains three genes encoding rhodopsin protein.

Abstract:Euryhalocaulis caribicus strain JL2009(T) is a novel genus and species of the family Hyphomonadaceae and was first isolated from surface water in the Caribbean Sea. Here, we report the first draft genome from this genus. Its genome contains genes encoding proteins that are involved in organic acid metabolism and probable low-affinity inorganic phosphate transporters, which suggests its competence in oligotrophic oceans.

Abstract:The genus Amphibacillus was established in 1990, and seven additional species were described in the past two decades. Amphibacillus jilinensis Y1(T) is a facultatively anaerobic and alkaliphilic bacterium isolated from a soda lake in China. Here we describe the structural and genetic features of the draft genome about the type strain Y1(T) (3,831,075 bp, with a G+C content of 37.27%). This is the first genome report of the Amphibacillus genus.

Abstract:Maribacter thermophilus strain HT7-2T, isolated from Ulva prolifera collected from the intertidal zone of Qingdao sea area, China. To date, M. thermophilus strain HT7-2T is the only one which has been found that has a relatively higher optimum temperature compared to other Maribacter species and it is also the first strain to be described that is facultatively anaerobic while other identified strains within genus Maribacter are strictly aerobic. Meanwhile, M. thermophilus strain HT7-2T harbors several coding genes related to heavy metal resistance and to antibiotics, which increase the robustness of the strain. Here, we report the genome sequence and annotation of M. thermophilus strain HT7-2T, which comprises 4,050,606bp with G+C content of 38.93%. A total of 3585 protein coding genes, 41 tRNAs and 6rRNAs were obtained. The genome annotation may provide basic information on some special traits and pathways in this strain.

Abstract:Microbulbifer elongatus strain HZ11, was a new strain of M. elongates DSM 6810T, which has the ability to degrade brown seaweeds such as Laminaria japonica into single cell detritus particles. Here we report a high quality draft genome of M. elongatus strain HZ11, which comprises 4,223,108bp in 9 contigs with the G+C content of 56.70%. A total of 3293 protein-coding sequences were predicted, including nine alginate lyases (EC 4.2.2.3), five agarases (EC 3.2.1.81), 2-dehydro-3-deoxygluconate kinase (EC 2.7.1.45) and all enzymes involved in the Entner–Doudoroff pathway. Our results suggest that strain HZ11 has the potential ability to produce bioethanol from alginate with moderate genetic modification, which may significantly increase the yield of bioethanol from brown seaweed and the utilization rate of brown seaweeds.

Abstract:The habitats of the genus Altererythrobacter are various, including marine sediment, seawater, rhizosphere of wild rice, desert sand, etc. The genome of the type strain of Altererythrobacter troitsensis JCM 17037, isolated from sea urchin, was sequenced. This study would not only facilitate the understanding of the physiology, adaptation, and evolution of the Altererythrobacter species, but also provide a good resource for the study of synthesis of astaxanthin, since several enzymes involved in the production of astaxanthin were predicted.

Abstract:A Gram-negative, non-motile, short-rod-shaped bacterial strain (JLT1210(T)) that accumulates poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate granules was isolated from the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea. Cells have polar or subpolar flagella. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain belongs to the genus Oceanicola in the order Rhodobacterales, class Alphaproteobacteria. The closest neighbours were Oceanicola nanhaiensis SS011B1-20(T) (96.5 % similarity) and Oceanicola batsensis HTCC2597(T) (96.4 %). The predominant respiratory ubiquinone of strain JLT1210(T) was Q-10 and the DNA G+C content was 72.8 mol%. Evidence from genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data shows that strain JLT1210(T) represents a novel species of the genus Oceanicola, for which the name Ocean/cola nitratireducens sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is JLT1210(T) (=LMG 24663(T)=CGMCC 1.7292(T)).

Abstract:Microscopic interactions between phycosphere microbiota and host algae play crucial roles in aquatic ecosystems. Despite their significance, there is a scarcity of available genome sequences derived from the phycosphere microbiome. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of nine heterotrophic proteobacterial strains isolated from the toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium catenella LZT09 during execution of our Phycosphere Microbiome Project. Further exploration of the genomic features of the alga-associated bacterial community will profoundly help in deeply deciphering the processes and mechanisms governing the host-microbe interactome within algal holobionts in the ocean.

Abstract:Pelagovum pacificum SM1903T, belonging to a novel genus of the family Rhodobacteraceae, was isolated from the surface seawater of the Mariana Trench. Here, we report the first complete genome sequence of the novel genus Pelagovum. The genome of strain SM1903T consists of a circular chromosome of 4,040,866 bp and two plasmids of 41,363 bp and 9705 bp, respectively. Gene annotation and metabolic pathway analyses showed that strain SM1903T possesses a series of genes related to adaptation to marine oligotrophic environments, which are involved in utilization of aromatic compounds, allantoin, and alkylphosphonate, and second messenger signaling in response to the oligotrophic stress. This strain also contains a variety of genes involved in coping with other stresses including osmotic stress, oxidative stress, cold shock, and heat shock. These features would assist this strain to survive under the natural nutrient limitation and other stresses from the environment. The genome of strain SM1903T of the novel genus Pelagovum would deepen our knowledge on marine bacterioplankton and their adaption strategies to marine oligotrophic environments.
