Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To explore the approaches for surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy.METHODS:Assisted by a 3-dimensional precise localization system of epileptic foci for epilepsy diagnosis and treatment, we managed to locate the epilepsy loci precisely in 74 cases of refractory epilepsy before and during operation. Comprehensive surgical measures were taken for the treatment of isolated epileptic foci and their network.RESULTS:The accuracy in localization of the epilepsy foci by this 3-dimensional localization system was confirmed by 64-channel electrocorticogram and 8-channel deep electrodes during the operations. The satisfaction rate of the effect was 71.6% during the follow-up study with the total effective rate of 94.6%.CONCLUSION:Three-dimensional precise localization of the epilepsy foci and comprehensive surgical management is an effective approach for treatment of refractory epilepsy.
