Abstract:This paper introduced a new strategy of LSE-based T wave detection and QT interval extraction. Based on the detected offset and onset of QRS complexes by the detection algorithm, The LSE of sixteen point linear segments from offset was calculated forward. The peak or valley of T wave was detected under a window determined by LSE and then decided an R point and R regression line on LSE. The offset of T wave was determined by the deviation that before R point between ECG data and the R regression line. Thus the QT interval was extracted. The strategy was verified by all the records from QT database, in which 3 542 T wave offsets was marked by cardiologists, and reached the 98.2% of T wave detection ratio, the 97.2% of QT interval extraction precision and the average error of 1.0ms on QT interval extraction.
Extracting Strategy for Interval of ST Segment in ECG Based on Least Absolute Deviation Estimation

Abstract:Objective To propose a new strategy basing on least absolute deviation estimation(LADE) for extracting the interval of ST segment in ECG.Methods Based on the detected position inside QRS complexes,the LADE and deviation of linear segments from this point was calculated backward and a basic linear segment was checked out.Upon this,the offset of QRS complex was determined by hypothesis testing.The T wave afterwards was classified into 4 groups under LADE.Q point and Q regression line were decided according to different criterion under different groups.After Q point,the deviation between ECG data and Q regression line determined the onset of T wave.Thus the interval of ST segment was extracted.Results The strategy was verified by all the records from QT database,in which the T wave onset was marked by cardiologists,and reached the average error of 2.4 ms on 1412 ST segment marked by cardiologists.Conclusion The strategy of LADE-based interval extraction for ST segment is feasible.

Abstract:Abnormal ST segment is related to ischemia, which is a critical clinical sign of myocardial infarction. Sometimes ischemia is not obvious at rest. Meanwhile abnormal ST can only be captured under load of exercise. Because the signal of ST is feeble, the main obstacles to measure ST are baseline wandering and electromyograply disturbance. This article brings forward a wavelet based QRS windowing method, which combines the good Time-Fequency localization performance of wavelet and the structural character of ECG to deal with this problem. This method proved to be robust in the long-time ST segment morintoring.

Abstract:In electrocardiogram real-time monitoring, the ST segment detection is important, it has close relationship with myocardial ischemia and myocardial infarction. In this paper, ST detection is divided into two parts, firstly using wavelet and morphology method to calculate the offset direction, waveform and summarizing features of ST, eventually divide the ST in 15 types; next analyzing the ST waveform change tendency in about 30 minutes and discovering the rhythm of ischemia or infarction to help doctor. At last, the first part has been confirmed by MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database and European ST-T database and the second is proved by two experts' conclusion.
A Crucial Wave Detection and Delineation Method for Twelve-Lead ECG Signals

Abstract:Delineating the crucial waves in electrocardiogram records is a paramount work for the automatic diagnosis system of heart diseases. In this paper, a novel method is described to determine the boundaries and the peaks of P waves, QRS complexes and T waves by utilizing twelve-lead electrocardiogram signals. It avoids the difficulty of setting the thresholds when determining the boundaries of crucial waves and also the trouble of selection of wavelet basis as the wavelet-based method does. The signals are first preprocessed by a bandpass filter. After that, the locations of QRS complexes are identified. And based on the QRS locations, adaptive search windows are set to detect the locations of P waves and T waves. Then, a method called local distance transform decides the wave boundary in each lead. Finally, the final boundary determination rule is applied to obtain reliable boundaries. We justify the performance of our algorithm on LUDB database. When the tolerance window interval is 40ms, the peak accuracies of P wave, QRS complex and T wave are all beyond 98% and their boundary accuracies are all above 96%. Compared with the derivative threshold method and the wavelet-based method where the tolerance window interval is 150ms, the algorithm shows a sensitivity and a positive predictive value of peaks and boundaries greater than or equal to 98.43% and 96.44% for the P wave, 99.89% and 99.86% for the QRS complex and 99.21% and 99.85% for the T wave. For the critera of average error and standard deviation, our method has the performance similar to those methods. In addition, our algorithm can also handle such several situations where the boundary determination of crucial waves is tough as high T wave, high noise and baseline wandering well.

Abstract:Electrocardiogram (ECG) diagnosis clinical mainly depends on the amplitude, shape, and duration of the characteristic waves (CW). However, they are often difficult to obtain for the acquisition process is vulnerable to interference, and ECG has many types and variations. This study proposed a new method of detecting the CW and their onset and end of ECG. It includes three stages. First, the wavelet transform (WT) was used to filter the signal. Second, the WT combined arithmetic operation, adaptive threshold within a fixed window was applied to detect the CW. Third, a zone slope maximization method was adopted to detect the onset and end of CW based on the peak. During the last two stages, a search window and threshold correction was performed. The sensitivity (Se), positive predictivity (PP), accuracy (Acc), and computation time (CT) were validated via data from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database and QT database. Se%, PP% and Acc% of values >= 98.64, 98.64, 97.30, and 98.82, 98.82, 97.67 were obtained for the peak of CW detection, those values >= 98.48, 98.48, 97.00, and 98.74, 98.74, 97.51 for the onset and end detection, respectively. CT <= 5.77 s on 15 min ECG. The proposed method extracted the CW and their onset and ends with good performance, especially for P-wave. Those features are further applied to obtain the ECG diagnosis clinical basis such as heart rate, amplitude, duration. It would be a new method for extracting the diagnosis basis of heart disease and provide a foundation for developing intelligent recognition systems.

Abstract:This paper proposes a detection method of ST segment change in real-time Electrocardiography(ECG) monitoring, which uses line-fitting to extract the baseline, uses wavelet transform to monitor QRS complex, and combines J+X method and T wave detection method to attain the feature point of ST segment.A ST segment recorded message is designed in real-time monitoring.Through a long period of standard database simulation and clinical tests, this method is proved to be accuracy and useful.

Abstract:Background . The T wave represents ECG repolarization, whose detection is required during myocardial ischemia, and the first significant change in the ECG signal is being observed in the ST segment followed by changes in other waves like P wave and QRS complex. To offer guidance in clinical diagnosis, decision-making, and daily mobile ECG monitoring, the T wave needs to be detected firstly. Recently, the sliding area-based method has received an increasing amount of attention due to its robustness and low computational burden. However, the parameter setting of the search window’s boundaries in this method is not adaptive. Therefore, in this study, we proposed an improved sliding window area method with more adaptive parameter setting for T wave detection. Methods . Firstly, k -means clustering was used in the annotated MIT QT database to generate three piecewise functions for delineating the relationship between the RR interval and the interval from the R peak to the T wave onset and that between the RR interval and the interval from the R peak to the T wave offset. Then, the grid search technique combined with 5-fold cross validation was used to select the suitable parameters’ combination for the sliding window area method. Results . With respect to onset detection in the QT database, F 1 improved from 54.70% to 70.46% and 54.05% to 72.94% for the first and second electrocardiogram (ECG) channels, respectively. For offset detection, F 1 also improved in both channels as it did in the European ST-T database. Conclusions . F 1 results from the improved algorithm version were higher than those from the traditional method, indicating a potentially useful application for the proposed method in ECG monitoring.

Abstract:This paper proposes the application of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to detect the QRS (ECG is characterized by a recurrent wave sequence of P, QRS and T-wave) of an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. Wavelet Transform provides localization in both time and frequency. In preprocessing stage, DWT is used to remove the baseline wander in the ECG signal. The performance of the algorithm of QRS detection is evaluated against the standard MIT BIH (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Beth Israel Hospital) Arrhythmia database. The average QRS complexes detection rate of 98.1 % is achieved.

Abstract:Detection of Electrocardiogram (ECG) characteristic points can provide critical diagnostic information about heart diseases. We propose a novel feature extraction and machine learning scheme for ECG delineation. A new feature, termed as randomly selected wavelet transform (RSWT), is proposed to effectively represent ECG morphology. With the RSWT feature pool, a regression tree is trained to estimate the probability distribution to the direction toward the target point, relative to the current position. The continual random walk through 1D space will eventually produce a reliable region from which the final position of the target point is derived. The evaluation results on QT database show better detection accuracy compared with other studies while providing real-time processing capability.

Abstract:A new algorithm has been developed for delineation of significant points of various electrocardiographic signal (ECG) waves, taking into account information from all available leads and providing similar or higher accuracy in comparison with other modern technologies. The test results for the QT database show a sensitivity above 97% when detecting ECG wave peaks and 96% for their onsets and offsets, as well as better positive predictive value compared to the previously known algorithms. In contrast to the previously published algorithms, the proposed approach also allows one to determine the morphology of waves. The segmentation mean errors of all significant points are below the tolerances defined by the Committee of General Standards for Electrocardiography (CSE).

Abstract:Synthesis detection of electrocardiographic(ECG) including QRS complex,P wave,T wave is difficult.Wavelet transform is used and a series of detection methods,detection rules and thresold paramters is developed to detect morphology and position of ECG components.Test results show that the synthesis detection algorithm is robust,the influence of extern noise is removed and restrained such as baseline,high frequency,and self annormality equation such as big T wave,big S wave,high U wave and wave fusion.

Abstract:The paper presents a new wavelet analysis method which is utilized in the detection of fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) from the abdominal signal. At first, in the monitoring of fetal heart rate and fetal ECG, the wavelet analysis approach is used to determine the position of the abdominal maternal electrocardiogram (MECG), and whether the MECG is in saturated distortion. The amplification of original signal and the enhancement of FECG is not limited. Second, in the coherence average of FECG, the wavelet analysis is utilized to enhance FECG so that the coherent average can get a more accurate reference. Third, in the elimination of baseline drift, the best scale of wavelet base function can be obtained to smooth the baseline drift. Tests on clinical data have shown that the proposed method can be effective in detecting the FECG signal in many cases when compared with other methods in practice

Abstract:With the increasing usage of wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring devices, it is necessary to develop models and algorithms that can analyze the large amounts of ECG data obtained in real-time. Accurate ECG delineation is key to assisting cardiologists in diagnosing cardiac diseases. The main objective of this study is to design a delineation model based on the encoder-decoder structure to detect different heartbeat waveforms, including P-waves, QRS complexes, T-waves, and No waves (NW), as well as the onset and offset of these waveforms. First, the introduction of a standard dilated convolution module (SDCM) into the encoder path enabled the model to extract more useful ECG signal-informative features. Subsequently, bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) was added to the encoding structure to obtain numerous temporal features. Moreover, the feature sets of the ECG signals at each level in the encoder path were connected to the decoder part for multi-scale decoding to mitigate the information loss caused by the pooling operation in the encoding process. Finally, the proposed model was trained and tested on both QT and LU databases, and it achieved accurate results compared to other state-of-the-art methods. Regarding the QT database, the average accuracy of ECG waveform classification was 96.90%, and an average classification accuracy of 95.40% was obtained on the LU database. In addition, average F1 values of 99.58% and 97.05% were achieved in the ECG delineation task of the QT and LU databases, respectively. The results show that the proposed ECG_SegNet model has good flexibility and reliability when applied to ECG delineation, and it is a reliable method for analyzing ECG signals in real-time.

Abstract:The aim of this study is to develop and describe a new ambulatory holter electrocardiogram (ECG) events detection-delineation algorithm with the major focus on the bounded false-alarm probability (FAP) segmentation of an information-optimized decision statistic. After implementation of appropriate preprocessing methods to the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of the original ECG data, a uniform length sliding window is applied to the obtained signal and in each slid, six feature vectors namely as summation of the nonlinearly amplified Hilbert transform, summation of absolute first order differentiation, summation of absolute second order differentiation, curve length, area and variance of the excerpted segment are calculated to construct a newly proposed principal components analyzed geometric index (PCAGI) by application of a linear orthonormal projection. In the next step, the α-level Neyman-Pearson classifier (which is a FAP controlled tester) is implemented to detect and delineate QRS complexes. The presented method was applied to MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database, QT Database, and T-Wave Alternans Database and as a result, the average values of sensitivity and positive predictivity Se = 99.96% and P+ = 99.96% are obtained for the detection of QRS complexes, with the average maximum delineation error of 5.7, 3.8 and 6.1 m for P-wave, QRS complex and T-wave, respectively. Also, the proposed method was applied to DAY general hospital high resolution holter data (more than 1,500,000 beats including Bundle Branch Blocks-BBB, Premature Ventricular Complex-PVC and Premature Atrial Complex-PAC) and average values of Se = 99.98% and P+ = 99.97% are obtained for QRS detection. In summary, marginal performance improvement of ECG events detection-delineation process in a widespread values of signal to noise ratio (SNR), reliable robustness against strong noise, artifacts and probable severe arrhythmia(s) of high resolution holter data and the processing speed 155,000 samples/s can be mentioned as important merits and capabilities of the proposed algorithm.
Biometric identification method for ECG based on wavelet transform and piecewise correction

Abstract:In this paper, we proposed a novel biometric identification system which can extract more distinguishable features from the ECG signal. Based on the reference point detection, piecewise correction method was used to solve the problem of heart rate variability (HRV). Besides, we used some details of parts of the wavelet coefficient structure to reconstruct more distinguishable signal. At last, the feature dimension was reduced to 41 by PCA. 254 subjects' ECG records from the publicly available databases were selected to verify this method. The accuracies were 98.50% and 98.87% using the k-NN classifier and SVM classifier separately. The experiments demonstrate that our method is efficient in identification applications.
A New Multi-Window Detection Approach for P-wave Boundary Points in Electrocardiograms Based on Bilateral Accumulative Area

Abstract:This study presented an efficient and robust multi-window detection method for P-wave boundary points in electrocardiograms on the basis of bilateral accumulative area. Through mathematical analysis, the local extreme points of bilateral accumulative area curves were respectively found in a fitting parabola, which might be regarded as a significant indicator for the morphological characteristic of boundary points. And, bilateral accumulative area curves of different window lengths had different sensitivities to the details and contours of signals. With combination of the multi-window and 12-lead synchronous detection, the proposed method could screen the optimal boundary points from all extreme points of different window lengths, and adaptively match the P-wave location. The results of the proposed method were evaluated on the dataset-3 of the standard CSE database. As a result, the value of sensitivity Se = 97.8% was obtained for the detection of P-wave, with the standard deviations of 3.9 ms and 4.8 ms respectively for the onset and offset of P-wave.

Abstract:Waveform detection is the basis for automatic analysis of ECG signals, and the detection accuracy has an important effect on the assay performance. In a cardiac cycle, R wave characteristics are very obvious and easy to identify, so most researchers take ECG R wave detection as the foundation of feature extraction. This paper studies the principle of ECG R wave detection and carries out an in-depth discussion on some key technologies. As a result, an intelligent algorithm of R wave detection is proposed. The algorithm uses filter, multi-order difference and Shannon energy transformation to process ECG signals, and then it adopts an improved adaptive threshold method for detecting R waves. The author used ECG data files from the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database (mitdb) to measure the performance of the algorithm. Overall, the experiment obtained 99.84% sensitivity and 99.92% precision of R wave detection, while the error rate is only 0.24%. Experiments show that, this algorithm could be also applied for R wave real-time detection under the requirements of high accuracy and low error rate.
