Abstract:Three new anthraquinones, emodin-8-beta-D-(2"-O-coumarate)glucoside 1, emodin-8-beta-D-(6'-O-acetyl)glucoside 2 and physicon-8-beta-D-(6'-O-acetyl)glucoside 3, were isolated from the roots of Polygonum cillinerve and their structures were established by spectroscopic methods. The biological activity indicated that compound 1 had the scavenging activity on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals (the IC50 = 8.5 mu mol/L), and compound 1-3 showed no activities against HL-60 and BGC-823 cells by MTT method in vitro.

Abstract:Four new compounds including two new phenylpropanoid esters of sucrose, polygonusucroside A (1) and B (2); two new anthraquinones, 8-O-β-d-(6′-galloyl)-glucopyranoside (3) and polyanthraquinoside A (4), together with six known compounds were isolated from Polygonum cuspidatum. Their structures were established using UV, IR, HRESIMS, and NMR data. All compounds were evaluated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activities and neuroprotective effects. Compounds 5, 7 and 9 showed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activities with IC50 values of 27.30, 5.51, and 1.09 μmol/L, respectively (acarbose as positive control, IC50 = 6.17 μmol/L). In addition, the assessment of neuroprotective effect showed that compound 3 exhibited remarkable effect against PC12 cells injured by serum-deprivation and compounds 2, 7, and 9 exhibited moderate effects against PC12 cells injured by rotenone.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constitients of Polygonum cuspidatum.Methods The compounds were isolated through column chromatography and their structures were elucidated through physicochemical and spectral analyses.Results Seven compounds were obtained from the diethyl ether fraction of ethanol extract and identified as physcion(Ⅰ),emodin(Ⅱ),ambrettolide(Ⅲ),β-sitosterol(Ⅳ),oleanolic acid(Ⅴ),coumarin(Ⅵ),and 2-ethoxy-8-acetyl-1,4-naphthoquinone(Ⅶ).Conclusion Compound Ⅶ is a new compound named as cuspidatumin A,and compound Ⅲ is obtained from P.cuspidatum for the first time.

Abstract:Sixteen alkaloid compounds were isolated from the dried rhizomes of P. zanlanscianense, including a pair of new enantiomers (R/S)-7'-ethoxy-trans-p-couma-royltyramine (1a/1b) and 14 known compounds (2-14) isolated from this plant for the first time. The structures of new compounds were identified by IR, NMR and MS spectroscopic analysis, and their absolute configurations were determined by comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD data.

Abstract:Two new sucrose cinnamates(1 and 2) along with nine known compounds(3-11) were isolated from ethanol extract of Polygonum lapathifolium var. salicifolium by silica gel column chromatography, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods including 1 D-and 2 D-NMR experiments, as well as HR-ESI-MS analysis. Eleven compounds(7 sucrose cinnamates, 3 phenylpropanoids and 1 lactone) were obtained and their structures were identified as(1,3-O-di-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→1)-α-D-glucopyranoside(1),(1,3-O-di-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→1)-(6-O-acetyl)-α-D-glucopyranoside(2),(3-O-feruloyl)-β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→1)-(6-O-p-coumaroyl)-α-D-glucopyranoside(3), hydropiperoside(4), vanicoside C(5),(1,3-O-di-p-coumaroyl)-β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2→1)-(6-O-feruloyl)-α-D-glucopyranoside(6), vanicoside B(7),trans-p-hydroxycinnamic acid methyl ester(8), trans-p-hydroxycinnamic acid ethyl ester(9), methyl ferulate(10) and dimethoxydimethylphthalide(11), respectively. Compounds 1 and 2 were two new sucrose cinnamates, and compounds 1-11 were isolated from this plant for the first time. The antioxidant activities of the isolated compounds 1-9 were investigated by an oxygen radical absorbance capacity(ORAC) assay, and all nine compounds were found to show strong antioxidant activities. Among them, compound 6(10 μmol·L~(-1)) was the supreme one in antioxidant activities, with its ORAC value equivalent to(1.60±0.05) times of 50 μmol·L~(-1) Trolox.

Abstract:A new coumarin, methyl (E)-4-((6-methoxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl)oxy)-2-methylbut-2-enoate ( 1 ), has been isolated from the rhizomes of Polygonatum chingshuishanianum , together with six known compounds – scopoletin ( 2 ), rutin ( 3 ), isoquercetin ( 4 ), hyperoside ( 5 ), (3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-3-(2′,4′-dihydroxybenzyl)-chroman-4-one ( 6 ), and (3R)-5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-8-methyl-3-(2′,4′-dihydroxybenzyl)-chroman-4-one ( 7 ). The structure of new compound 1 was determined through spectroscopic and MS analyses. Among the isolates compounds 3 – 6 showed potent inhibition with IC 50 values of 10.25 ± 0.75, 17.60 ± 1.28, 18.82 ± 1.63, and 24.93 ± 2.07 μM, respectively, against LPS-induced NO generation.

Abstract:Twenty-five steroidal glycosides including eight undescribed compounds which were named as polygonatumosides H–O, were isolated from the 70 % EtOH extract of rhizomes of Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce (Asparagaceae). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and chemical methods. The isolated compounds were evaluated cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines: human non-small cell lung cancer (A549), human epithelial colorectal adenocarcinoma (Caco2), and human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cells. Five compounds showed cytotoxicity against these cell lines with IC50 values in the range of 1.7–30.8 μM.

Abstract:Four new stilbene derivatives, polygonumosides A-D (1-4), were isolated from the processed roots of Polygonum multiflorum. Polygonumosides A (1) and B (2), possessing an unprecedented tetracyclic skeleton, were assigned as 2S- and 2R-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-9,10,11-trihydroxy-2H-benzo[c]furo[2,3-f]chromen-7(3H)-one-4-O-β-d-glucopyranosides, respectively, while polygonumosides C (3) and D (4) were assigned as a pair of diastereomeric stilbene glucoside dimers.

Abstract:This work describes the isolation and characterization of thirty-one compounds from Polygonum capitatum Buch-Ham. ex D. Don, including two triterpenes (1–2), ten flavonoids (7–16), nine lignans (17–25), nine phenolic compounds (4–7, 26–31) and one anthraquinones (3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of various spectroscopic methods (UV, IV and NMR, including 2D experiments). It was the first report of compounds 13, 15, 17, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 from the genus Ploygonum, and the first report of compounds 13, 15, 17, 24, 25 from the family Polygonaceae.

Abstract:One new flavonostilbene glycoside, polygonflavanol C ( 1 ), two new dimeric stilbene glycosides, multiflorumiside M and multiflorumiside N ( 2 − 3 ), one new diphenyl ethanol glycoside, ( R )-2,3,5,4′-tetrahydroxy-diphenylethanol 2- O - β -D-glucopyranoside ( 4 ), and one new deoxybenzoin glycoside, 2,4,3′,5′-tetrahydroxy-6-methyl-deoxybenzoin 2- O - β -D-glucopyranoside ( 5 ), together with six known ones ( 6 − 11 ), were isolated from the roots of Polygonum multiflorum . Their structures were elucidated by the comprehensive spectroscopic analyses. In addition, compounds 1 and 7 showed significantly in vitro anti-inflammatory activity.

The structure of 1 was elucidated by spectral evidence and chemical reaction. The NMR signals of carbons and protons of 2 were assigned for the first time by analysis of H-1-H-1 COSY, HMQC and HMBC spectra.

Abstract:Curculigo crassifolia (Bak.) Hook. f. (Hypoxidaceae) is a tall perennial herb used as a folk medicine to treat child pneumonia by local people in Yunnan Province. Two new phenolic glycosides named crassifoside C (1) and crassifoside D (2) were isolated from the ethanolic extract of rhizomes of Curculigo crassifolia, and their structures were identified by 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques and chemical transformations. In addition, seven known compounds (3 - 9) were isolated and identified by spectroscopic analysis and comparison of their spectral data with those reported previously.
