Abstract:Transition energies of 55 superdeformed bands in 20 nuclei of the A = 190 region are studied with formulae derived from the Cranking Bohr-Mottelson Hamiltonian and the level spins are determined. Mass parameter B1 and rigidity parameter C0 are obtained from the fitting parameters A and ħω′. The B1 and C0 values show clear odd-even effects. Deviations from the simple model are discussed.

Abstract:A cranking Bohr-Mottelson Hamiltonian is proposed and a formula for the rotational spectrum is derived, showing explicitly the coupling between rotational and vibrational motions. The formula is applied to the rotational bands of even-even nuclei in the rare-earth and actinide regions. The ground-state rotational band (below backbending) and the associated beta and gamma bands can be represented by a single formula. Nuclear structure information on the parameters is discussed.

Abstract:Using the two-parameter expression for rotational spectra, {ital E}({ital I})={ital a}( {radical}1+{ital bI}({ital I}+1) {minus}1), derived from the Bohr Hamiltonian, the spins of 22 superdeformed bands observed in the {ital A}{similar to}190 region were determined. The calculated transition energies depend sensitively on the prescribed spins. The agreement between the calculated and observed transition energies is incredibly well when a correct spin assignment is made. The kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia were extracted from the observed transition energies and their variation with rotational frequency was investigated.

Abstract:A new method for spin assignment of superdeformed rotational bands is proposed and it turns out to be more efficient than other methods used before. The application is made to superdeformed bands in A similar to 190 and A similar to 150 mass regions. By analyzing the standard deviation of the fixed gamma-ray energies of an SD band in different methods, the advantage of the present method over the other methods is presented. This method brings then a comprehensive interpretation of the methods used in spin assignment.

Abstract:Superdeformed states in light $N=Z$ nuclei are studied by means of the self-consistent cranking calculation (i.e., the P + QQ model based on the cranked Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method). Analyses are given for two typical cases of superdeformed bands in the $A \simeq 40$ mass region, that is, bands where backbending is absent ($^{40}$Ca) and present ($^{36}$Ar). Investigations are carried out, particularly for the following points: cross-shell excitations in the sd and pf shells; the role of the g$_{9/2}$ and d$_{5/2}$ orbitals; the effect of the nuclear pairing; and the interplay between triaxiality and band termination.

Abstract:The spin values of the superdeformed (SD) bands in A approximate to 190 region have been assigned by comparing the fitting results of Bohr-Mottelson and Harris formulas. The assigned spin values in most of the SD bands are consistent in the both fitting results. For the superdeformed bands whose spin cannot be assigned consistently by the two formulas or the bands whose spin assignment doesn't accord with bandhead moments of inertial systematics, we assign their spin using moments of inertial systematics. By using our assigned spin values, the relation of parameters of Bohr-Mottelson formula has been examined. The results show that the relation deduced from three-parameter Harris formula is closer to the experiment than the relation deduced from ab formula.

Abstract:Inclusion of time-odd components into the wave function is important for reliable description of rotational motion by the angular-momentum-projection method; the cranking procedure with infinitesimal rotational frequency is an efficient way to realize it. In the present work we investigate the effect of this infinitesimal cranking for triaxially deformed nucleus, where there are three independent cranking axes. It is found that the effects of cranking about three axes on the triaxial energy spectrum are quite different and inclusion of all of them considerably modify the resultant spectrum from the one obtained without cranking. Employing the Gogny D1S force as an effective interaction, we apply the method to the calculation of the multiple gamma vibrational bands in $^{164}$Er as a typical example, where the angular-momentum-projected configuration-mixing with respect to the triaxial shape degree of freedom is performed. With this method, both the $K=0$ and $K=4$ two-phonon gamma vibrational bands are obtained with considerable anharmonicity. Reasonably good agreement, though not perfect, is obtained for both the spectrum and transition probabilities with rather small average triaxial deformation $\gamma\approx 9^\circ$ for the ground state rotational band. The relation to the wobbling motion at high-spin states is also briefly discussed.

Abstract:Within the supersymmetry scheme including many-body interactions and a perturbation possessing the SO(5) (or SU(5)) symmetry on the rotational symmetry, the superdeformed (SD) bands of the odd-A nuclei in A approximate to 190 mass region are investigated systematically. Quantitatively good results of the gamma-ray energy spectra and the dynamical moments of inertia are obtained. It shows that the supersymmetry approach is powerful in describing not only the generic rotational property, but also the DeltaI = 4 bifurcation and the identical bands in SD states simultaneously.

Abstract:> Using the Wu-Zeng expression for rotational spectrum,the spin of the lowest one of the twenty levels observed in the SD band in 152 Dy is determined,from the transition energies, to be 25,rather than 22 suggested previously.As a result,the calcnlated SD levels are in excellent agreement with experiments.Correspondingly, contrary to the results given previously,the kinematic moment of inertia is always larger(but not smaller)than the dynamic moment of inertia and decreases(but not increases)slowly with rotational frequency ω.

Abstract:Following a previous Letter [P. W. Zhao et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 122501 (2011)] on the first microscopic description of the antimagnetic rotation (AMR) in Cd-105, a systematic investigation and detailed analysis for the AMR band in the framework of the tilted-axis cranking (TAC) model based on covariant density functional theory are carried out. After the microscopic and self-consistent TAC calculations are performed with a given density functional, the configuration for the observed AMR band in Cd-105 is obtained from the single-particle Routhians. With the configuration thus obtained, the tilt angle. theta(Omega) for a given rotational frequency is determined self-consistently by minimizing the total Routhian with respect to the angle. theta(Omega). In such away, the energy spectrum, total angular momenta, kinetic and dynamic moments of inertia, and the B(E2) values for the AMR band in Cd-105 are calculated. Good agreement with the data is found. By investigating microscopically the contributions from neutrons and protons to the total angular momentum, the "two-shears-like" mechanism in the AMR band is clearly illustrated. Finally, the currents leading to time-odd mean fields in the Dirac equation are presented and discussed in detail. It is found that they are essentially determined by the valence particles and/or holes. Their spatial distribution and size depend on the specific single-particle orbitals and the rotational frequency.

With a few exceptions, almost all the superdeformed bands observed have their identical counterparts, supporting the concept of the quantized spin alignment. Abstract:We have found an oscillating instability of fast-running cracks in thin rubber sheets. A well-defined transition from straight to oscillating cracks occurs as the amount of biaxial strain increases. Measurements of the amplitude and wavelength of the oscillation near the onset of this instability indicate that the instability is a Hopf bifurcation.

Abstract:Background: Nuclear collective rotations have been successfully described by the cranking Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) model. However, for rotational sidebands which are built on intrinsic excited configurations, it may not be easy to find converged cranking HFB solutions. The nonconservation of the particle number in the BCS pairing is another shortcoming. To improve the pairing treatment, a particle-number-conserving (PNC) pairing method was suggested. But the existing PNC calculations were performed within a phenomenological one-body potential (e.g., Nilsson or Woods-Saxon) in which one has to deal the double-counting problem.Purpose: The present work aims at an improved description of nuclear rotations, particularly for the rotations of excited configurations, i.e., sidebands.Methods: We developed a configuration-constrained cranking Skyrme Hartree-Fock (SHF) calculation with the pairing correlation treated by the PNC method. The PNC pairing takes the philosophy of the shell model which diagonalizes the Hamiltonian in a truncated model space. The cranked deformed SHF basis provides a small but efficient model space for the PNC diagonalization.Results: We have applied the present method to the calculations of collective rotations of hafnium isotopes for both ground-state bands and sidebands, reproducing well experimental observations. The first up-bendings observed in the yrast bands of the hafnium isotopes are reproduced, and the second up-bendings are predicted. Calculations for rotational bands built on broken-pair excited configurations agree well with experimental data. The band-mixing between two K-pi = 6(+) bands observed in Hf-176 and the K purity of the Hf-178 rotational state built on the famous 31 yr K-pi = 16(+) isomer are discussed.Conclusions: The developed configuration-constrained cranking calculation has been proved to be a powerful tool to describe both the yrast bands and sidebands of deformed nuclei. The analyses of rotational moments of inertia help to understand the structures of nuclei, including rotational alignments, configurations, and competitions between collective and single-particle excitations.
