Abstract:We present a method to generate broadband isolated attosecond pulses. Using a two-color laser field, which is synthesized by a mid-infrared (12.5 fs, 2000 nm) and a weaker (12 fs, 800 nm) pulse in the x direction, a modulated supercontinuum from 290 to 430 eV is obtainable. By properly adding a second-harmonic control field of the driving pulse in the y direction, the short quantum path is well selected and a smooth supercontinuum from 290 to 440 eV is generated. The bandwidth of the supercontinuum can be controlled by adjusting the electric field of the control pulse in the x direction. When the electric field increases to 0.051 a.u., a smooth supercontinuum from 295 to 520 eV is obtained. Using this method we expect that isolated 63-as attosecond pulses with tunable central wavelengths are straightforwardly obtained.

Abstract:A scheme to efficiently generate an intense short isolated attosecond pulse is presented by the combined laser pulse irradiating the coherent superposition state. The combined pulse is composed of a multi-cycle 800 nm laser and a 1600 nm one. Compared with the case of the fundamental laser irradiating the ground state, the cutoff position is significantly extended from 70th to 280th harmonic, a broadband supercontinuum spectrum with 108 eV spectral width can be produced which directly generates an isolated 38 attosecond pulse, the intensity of which is increased eleven orders of magnitude. Our simulation also shows that the value of the time delay has a large range to keep the isolated sub-50-as pulse generation. Moreover, the value of the time delay in the range between ±0.05π is optinal. This result shows that the scheme appears feasible for an experimental demonstration.

Abstract:We propose and theoretically demonstrate a method to generate the circularly polarized supercontinuum with three-color electric fields. The three-color field is synthesized from an orthogonally polarized two-color (OTC) laser field and an infrared gating field. All driving pulse durations are extended to 40 fs. We demonstrate that the three-color field imposes curved trajectories for ionized electrons and extends the time interval between each harmonic emitting. Through adjusting intensity ratios among three components of the driving field, a nearly circular isolated attosecond pulse can be generated.

Abstract:Isolated attosecond pulses with a duration of 88as are generated in the spectral range of 29-72eV using double optical gating technique.The gate width is set to be shorter than half the optical cycle to avoid carrier envelop phase stabilization of the 4.2 fs driving laser pulses centered at 800 nm.The attosecond pulse duration is measured with the technique of frequency resolved optical gating for complete reconstruction of attosecond bursts.

Abstract:An attosecond ionization gating is achieved using a few-cycle laser pulse in combination with its second harmonic. With this gating, the generation of the electron wave packet (EWP) is coherently controlled, and an isolated EWP of about 270 as is generated. An isolated broadband attosecond extreme ultraviolet pulse with a bandwidth of about 75 eV can also be generated using this gating, which can be used for EWP measurements as efficiently as a 50-as pulse, allowing one to measure a wide range of ultrafast dynamics not normally accessible before.

Abstract:We present a new scheme to generate efficient isolated attosecond pulse by using the combination of a fundamental and a weak second harmonic (SH) field in the multi-cycle regime. Because of the symmetry breaking of the electric field, the ionization dynamics of the electron can be controlled by adjusting the relative phase of the two fields. Then attosecond (as) pulses will be generated each full optical cycle of the fundamental field. Our simulation shows that the intensity of the single attosecond pulse can be enhanced by an order of magnitude in our scheme compared with the scheme in [Opt. Lett. 31, 975 (2006)].

Abstract:We theoretically investigate the high-order harmonic generation driven by the combination of a multi-cycle nonlinear chirped laser pulse and a polarization gating. On the one hand, the x-component of the polarization gating enlarges the asymmetry of the pulse centre of the chirped laser field, which leads to the extension of the cutoff of the high-order harmonic spectrum; on the other hand, only a few cycles of the combination field centre remain linearly polarized due to the existence of the y-component of the polarization gating, which helps to generate the continuum spectrum. Therefore, in the high-order harmonic spectrum, a very broad continuum spectrum appears even in the multi-cycle regime, from which an isolated sub-100 as pulse could be obtained.

Abstract:Both polarization gating (PG) and double optical gating (DOG) are productive methods to generate single attosecond (as) pulses. In this paper, considering the ground-state depletion effect, we investigate the wavelength-dependence of the DOG method in order to optimize the generation of single attosecond pulses for the future application. By calculating the ionization probabilities of the leading edge of the pulse at different driving laser wavelengths, we obtain the upper limit of duration for the driving laser pulse for the DOG setup. We find that the upper limit duration increases with the increase of laser wavelength. We further describe the technical method of choosing and calculating the thickness values of optical components for the DOG setup.

Abstract:We propose a theoretical scheme to generate a broadband supercontinuum using a modulated chirped polarization gating technique. By this technique, a broadband continuum of 155 eV can be obtained at microscopic level. The modulations on the supercontinuum can be eliminated after propagation. Then a smooth broadband supercontinuum with the bandwidth of 155 eV can be generated. As a result, isolated sub-100-attosecond pulses with tunable central wavelengths could be obtained straightforwardly. Our simulations also reveal that an isolated attosecond pulse can still be generated by using multicycle driving laser pulses, and the central wavelength of isolated attosecond pulse can be controlled by adjusting the delay τ d ( τ d is the delay of the two counter-rotating circularly polarized pulses.).

Abstract:We propose and theoretically demonstrate a method for generating an intense isolated attosecond pulse by a few-cycle strong laser pulse. The numerical simulations show that a broadband supercontinuum spectrum can be obtained by the interference of the ionized multi-recollision wave-packets with different energies, which are produced from the laser field at different ionization instants. By controlling the peak intensity of the few-cycle laser pulse, the atom can be completely ionized in the rising edge of the few-cycle laser pulse. Therefore, the probability of ionized wave packet is large enough to ensure the continuous harmonics with high efficiency, and an intense isolated 77 as pulse can be achieved successfully. Moreover, it is shown that our scheme can modulate the duration of the isolated attosecond pulse by adjusting the initial population of the atom.

Abstract:An efficient method to generate an isolated short attosecond pulse is investigated theoretically. A broadband extreme ultraviolet supercontinuum harmonics can be generated when a model He+ ion is exposed to the combination of an intense few-cycle laser pulse and a low-frequency field. By properly adding a 27th harmonics pulse to resonantly excite the He+ ion, the intensity of the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) plateau is enhanced by 3-4 orders of magnitude. As a result, an isolated 24-as pulse with a bandwidth of 138 eV can be obtained directly from the supercontinuum around the cutoff of HHG.

Abstract:We theoretically investigate high-order harmonic generation from the diatomic molecules in an orthogonally polarized two-color few-cycle optical field by controlling the incident angle of the recolliding electron. We show that the combination of molecules and two-color polarization gating allows us to significantly suppress undesirable satellite pulses owing to the orientation dependence of high-order harmonic generation in molecules, giving rise to the generation of single attosecond pulses.

Abstract:We theoretically demonstrate the generation of an intense single attosecond pulse by superposing a weak sub-harmonic pulse upon a sine-waveform few-cycle driving pulse. By use of a sine-waveform few-cycle pulse instead of its traditionally used cosine waveform counterpart, we show that efficient tunnel ionization for generating electrons which can revisit their parent ion with high kinetic energy can occur only once in the few-cycle laser field, leading to an increase of efficiency by nearly two orders of magnitude in single attosecond pulse generation as compared with the use of a cosine-waveform field.

Abstract:A method for the production of intense circularly polarized (CP) attosecond pulses from relativistic laser-solid interactions is proposed, where a two-color linearly polarized (LP) laser is used. The polarization, photon frequency, and other properties of the obtained attosecond pulse can be controlled by adjusting the ratio of the dichromatic driving LP field in different harmonics, which is much easier and more efficient than those previously using CP driving lasers. Both one- and two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations show that a CP attosecond extreme-ultraviolet pulse with an intensity of 1.4 x 10(19) W/cm(2) and a duration of about 120 as is obtained by a two-color LP laser at intensities in the fundamental and second harmonics of, respectively, 1.5 x 10(22) and 6.4 x 10(21) W/cm(2), which can be applied for the detection of the magnetic and chiral properties of materials.

Abstract:When light with relativistic intensity is incident on a solid target, bright attosecond pulses of extreme ultraviolet and x-ray radiation can be generated in the reflected beam. Unfortunately, the use of multi-cycle laser pulses results in trains of these attosecond pulses. Here we investigate a non-collinear gating scheme applied to surface high-harmonic generation to allow for the extraction of a single intense attosecond pulse from this train. Using 3D and 2D particle in cell (PIC) simulations we demonstrate that it is possible to angularly isolate a single attosecond pulse from the main driving laser pulse using this interaction geometry with intensities I > 10 20 W cm −2 . This result opens the door to generating bright attosecond pulses from relativistic plasmas without the need to spectrally filter the driving laser pulse.

Abstract:A new method to generate isolated broadband attosecond pulses with stable pulse duration is proposed. By adopting a few-cycle driving pulse combined with its second harmonic field, of which the polarization angle is π/3 to the driving pulse, the short path is well selected and a smooth supercontinuum with the bandwidth of about 50 eV is observed. For the intensity of the second harmonic field higher than 1014 W/cm2, the intensity variation of the second harmonic field can hardly affect the location and the bandwidth of the generated supercontinuum. Pure isolated attosecond pulses with the duration of about 100 as can be generated by directly filtering out a supercontinuum from 85—125 eV, which facilitates the experimental implement for the isolated attosecond pulse generation.

Abstract:A new method is proposed to generate extreme ultraviolet supercontinuum. The polarization gating at 1600nm is employed to intensify the ellipticity dependence of high harmonic signal， and the addition of a second harmonic field is used for modulating the ionization ratio. Calculations show that a fundamental pulse up to 6 optical cycles (32.4fs) in duration can be applied to confine the efficient high harmonic generation to half an optical cycle. This feature allows us to produce an extreme ultraviolet supercontinuum with the bandwidth of about 280eV which supports generating a Fourier-transform-limited pulse of 10as. By selecting one part of the supercontinuum， a 100as pulse is obtained directly. In addition， the intensity utilizing efficiency of fundamental pulses can be increased by making the delay between the two pulses which compose the polarization gating smaller，when the modulated polarization gating is employed.

Abstract:We theoretically investigate the high-order harmonic and attosecond pulse generation by numerically solving the one-dimensional time-dependent Schrödinger equation for a hydrogen atom in a two-color laser field that is synthesized by adding a suitable multi-cycle infrared pulse to a multicycle 800-nm fundamental pulse. Our result clearly shows that with the addition of a suitable second optical field, the electric field profile of the synthesized pulse presents multi-segments and that in the first and the last segments, the amplitudes of the electric field are dramatically suppressed. If this synthesized pulse is adopted as an incident driving pulse, only the amplitude of the electric field in the middle segment makes a major contribution to the plateau and to the cutoff region of the harmonic spectrum. This will cause a wide quasicontinuous spectrum around the cutoff position. Thus, an isolated attosecond pulse can be obtained even if we adopt the synthesized pulse with a multi-cycle pulse duration.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method is proposed to efficiently generate a single intense attosecond pulse with circular polarization (CP) through the interaction of an intense driving laser with a near-critical density plasma target. The driving laser is composed of two co-rotating CP lasers with similar frequencies but different pulse widths. When the matching condition is satisfied, the combined field is modulated to a short intense pulse followed by a weak tail. The resulting laser falling edge becomes steeper than the initial sub-pulses, which induces a quick one-time oscillation of the target surface. Meanwhile, the tail guarantees the energy to be compressed simultaneously in both polarization directions to the same extent, so that a single CP attosecond pulse can be produced efficiently and robustly via our method, which has been confirmed through extensive numerical simulations. In addition, our method makes it possible to generate a single CP attosecond pulse even for multi-cycle pulses that are already available for existing laser systems. This provides a novel way to advance the investigation of chiral-sensitive light-matter interactions in attosecond scales.

Abstract:We propose a new method to directly generate an isolated sub-50 attosecond pulse. The combination of a 5fs driving laser pulse with the wavelength of 800nm and a low frequency field with the wavelength of 10μm is adopted. The intensity of the low frequency field is 10% that of the driving pulse. It is shown that the harmonic spectrum is extended to Ip+8.2Up and the harmonics above Ip+4.2Up become continuous. By adjusting the phase of the carrier-envelope of the few-cycle pulse，the bandwidth of the supercontinuum can be further broadened and a close-to-Fourier-limit sub-50as pulse is directly obtained.
