This paper introduces implementation of CAD/CAM system integration using STEP in our GHCADMIS integrated system. The paper focuses on the EXPRESS compiler, VDAI & SDAI, STEP neutral file mechanism engineering database and other tools for STEP or database system integration.

Abstract:Abstract This paper introduces the architecture of the STEP-based mechanical manufacturing integrated system CADMIS, and discusses STEP implementation methodologies. The system framework is based on an architecture that promotes better integrity and extendibility. It supports the integration of current existing systems and supports the entire procedure of the design and manufacturing of parts. This paper presents the development and trends of the CADMIS system integration.

Abstract:STEP is a standard for product data representation and exchange which is being developed by International Standard Organization (ISO). It is intended for information integration in the computer integrated manufacture system (CIMS) and other application. Based on the integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM systems, this paper presents information integration of STEP tool PMSS. In order to facilitate the operation of the product data, the STEP tool provides a function to conveniently inquire, modify product data and reconstruct STEP file. It also provides the SDAI interface and C built-in functions. All that have been provided by the STEP tool have made good conditions for the designing of the pre-processor and post-processor of the STEP file, and make it easy to get the CAD/CAM/CAPP subsystem share integrated product data.

Abstract:To solve the problems of product data exchange and sharing among CAD, CAPP, CAM and CNC systems, a CAD/CAPP/CNC integrated system model was established according to STEP-NC standards, based on the analyses of each system's functions and commands. STEP files were used to represent product data in form of neutral file, by which data exchange and sharing can be realized in the integrated system. Furthermore, the key integration technologies including integrated system data modeling, feature recognition from design feature to manufacture feature were discussed. It is the base for further integration of CIMS.

Abstract:GS-STEP is a STEP toolkit that adapts to open environment. To meet the needs of flexibility in open CIMS environment, authors took system independence, protocol independence and hierarchical modularization as the development strategy. With this strategy GS-STEP could be conveniently embedded in all kinds of CAx systems, and each functional unit could be used independently as software toolkit or development platform, which embodies the thought of 'Plug and Play' and the principle of extensibility. As a platform for information integration, GS-STEP has been successfully used in the integrated CIMS environment of GS-ICCC - an integrated CAD/CAPP/CAM software developed by the authors too. This paper addresses the design and implementation of GS-STEP from the viewpoints of development strategy, system structure, data flow and function organization.

Abstract:Integrated principle, integration scheme and integrated interface design of CAD/CAPP/CAM system based on STEP were introduced. More thorough discussions for key techniques of integrated system was made. It was proved that integrated efficiency and quality can be enhanced greatly if development of the system was based on STEP standard, and full use of integrated function for commercial software and unified information integrated environment were made. Taking the wall-plate as a example object-oriented design techniques, implementation and procedures were described for integrated system of commercial CAD/CAM software.

Abstract:To achieve the data exchange between heterogeneous systems introduced by interoperability, the algorithms for model mapping in STEP are presented, which provide a methodology to the integration of CAx systems based on various application protocols of STEP. A formal definition of STEP/EXPRESS data model is introduced firstly. Based on this definition, two kinds of model mapping techniques for STEP, i.e. the static mapping and the dynamic mapping, along with the implementation by using EXPRESS-X mapping language are elaborated. Finally, a typical application of this technique in the open environment is addressed. Being independent of any specified system, the model mapping techniques presented in this paper achieve transparent integration between heterogeneous systems, which reduce the cost of information integration in system development.

Abstract:For shortening the product development time, this paper proposes a feature based parametric product modeling system, called ZD-MCADII, which is suitable for the integrated engineering design in CIM system environment. The architecture of ZD-MCADII and the characteristics of its modules are described in detail. Abstract:A brief discussion of the content and methodology of STEP is given, and STEP based strategies for CAD/CAPP information integration is pointed out. Abstract:The information integration, especially in CAD/CAPP/CAM, is a basis for realizing the integrated and concurrent product development in Concurrent Engineering (CE) environment. The integration technology based on STEP application protocol gives an effective way for the CAx/DFx information integration. This paper discusses the characteristics of concurrent product development, analyzes the methodology and technology of STEP, proposes an information integration approach based on STEP AP214, and presents the strategy of product data integration and an integration system implementation architecture. The integration technology based on STEP application protocol and the ST Developer tools is realized in a prototype system to support product data integration between CAD and its follow up systems through STEP physical file and STEP information exchange interface.

Abstract:STEP-NC or ISO 14649 is the next generation of data models between CAD/CAM and CNC systems. After a decade of investigation, the STEP-NC technology is still under developed. The lack of a complete CAD/CAM/CNC prototype system with full bidirectional data flow hinders the improvement of STEP-NC. This paper proposes a complete CAD/CAM/CNC solution for STEP-compliant manufacturing, so as to explore the functionalities and emphases of STEP-NC technologies. Frameworks of individual CAD/CAM and CNC systems are illustrated in detail. Architectures of STEP-compliant CAD/CAM and CNC systems are studied and several criteria are summarized. Finally, this paper proposes a complete prototype STEP-compliant solution, which consists of a secondary developed STEP-compliant CAD/CAM system on the CATIA platform and an open structured STEP-compliant CNC system.

Abstract:The part feature modeling is the key to achieve the integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM. This paper presented the feature modeling system based on STEP (JW-CAD) by which the STEP (standard for exchange of product model data, ISO-10303) rules are used in the computer-aided design by Jingwei Textile Machinery Co. It uses the Pro/E system and adopts STEP as its mechanism to exchange part information. The user interface of feature modeling, feature recognition and information matching modules were developed. According to JW-AP developed by AP214, the features in the models are sent to STEP neutral files for transferring to other systems.
