Abstract:This paper proposes an induction motor variable frequency speed control system based on fuzzy-PI self-tuning. The system includes coordinate transformation modules, vector control modules, space vector pulse width modules, fuzzy-PI self-tuning speed regulator, excitation current and torque current PI regulator. Because the speed regulator controlled by the fuzzy-PI self-tuning has better control effect than traditional PI. The performance can be reflected by the shorter response time, smaller overshoot. In addition, when the load torque changes, the electromagnetic torque changes more smoothly and does not have large fluctuations.

Abstract:In application of fuzzy PID control,the paper designed a new servo system for permanent magnet synchronous motor.In the proposed scheme,DSP TMS320F2809 was used as the controlling center and IPM was designed as the hardware foundation.The control system uses the classic double-loop structure,the current loop is vector control strategy and the position loop is self-adaptive fuzzy PID controller.In the traditional PID control system,when the PMSM fast startup or shutdown,accelerate or decelerate,it always shows up high overshoot or slow dynamic response problems.By experimental testing and comparing,it is proved that this controlling system can provide significant improvement on these problems.

Abstract:Traditional direct torque control system of induction motor introduces conventional PI regulator in speed loop, it is proved that the low precision of the speed regulator debases the performance of the whole system. This paper establishes a fuzzy speed PI regulator, which applies the principles and method of fuzzy logic to adjust the proportional coefficient k(p) and integral coefficient k(I) of the PI regulator on-line, and finally get the system to adapt to different speed variations. The proposed method is implemented with a single board microcomputer that uses TMS320LF2407A DSP. The experimental results show that the fuzzy speed regulator can ensure swift speed response, small overshooting, and high steady speed precision both in high and low speed. Additionally, the proposed regulator improves the observation precision of the stator flux and enhances the robustness of the whole system.

Abstract:To reduce traditional direct torque control (DTC) system low speed control precision and the large torque ripple in low speed, a fuzzy control system of DTC was proposed. On the basis of conventional PI regulator, a fuzzy speed PI regulator was designed according to speed error and its rate of change, which could adjust the proportional coefficient kp and integral coefficient kp dynamically to adapt the system to the speed variations, and advanced the self-adaptation of speed. In voltage vector fuzzy controller model, the stator flux angle, the stator flux error, and the torque error are reasonably fuzzified into several fuzzy subsets to optimize selection of the voltage vector and decrease the torque ripple. The experimental results show that the proposed fuzzy control system not only can ensure swift speed response, small overshooting, and high steady speed precision, but also can effectively decrease torque ripple in low speed. Additionally, the system improves the observation precision of the stator flux and enhances the robustness of the whole system

Abstract:This paper describes Freescale company’s DSP device MC56F8013 implementation of a control method for sensorless BLDC motor, which is according to fuzzy neural network. The inductance of stator core varies according to the variation of rotor position, and the rotor position can be estimated with the variation of current response caused by six direction voltage vectors. Then use fuzzy neural network PI control method to optimize the dynamic performance, accelerate the rotor to a certain speed, and switch to EMF mode. The experiment results show that the proposed method can have fast response, strong robustness and superior performances.

Abstract:The indirect field-oriented (IFO) method of induction motor (IM) drive is generally implemented by the fixed gain PI controller because of its simple design technique. The performance of fixed gain PI controller may be well under some operating conditions, but not all desired operating conditions. To increase the performance of PI controller, we propose a new Fuzzy-logic-based self-tuning PI control system for speed control of IM drives with IFO method. In this new approach, a well designed fuzzy-logic provides the suitable gain of PI controller to achieve the desired speed under the variation of load torque and parameters. The performance of proposed fuzzy-logic-based self-tuning PI controller was demonstrated through simulations. The simulation results confirm that the proposed controller is robust under the variation of load torque and parameters.

Abstract:This paper presents the field-oriented control (FOC) of a five-phase induction motor (FPIM) fed from a three-to-five phase direct matrix converter (DMC). The article focuses on the modulation and control of the three-to-five phase DMC, which discusses minimizing the problems associated with switching vector selection, sector identification, switching sequence selection, and dwell-time calculations. The DMC is controlled from the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique, eliminating the x-y components of space vectors. Moreover, the matrix converter can perform unity power factor control at the input side. The FPIM is sourced from a DMC, and the FOC technique is applied to control the drive. The dynamic characteristics of the drive are succeeded for different loading conditions. The proposed work is simulated in Simulink/Matlab environment and further verified through practical experimentation. The control signals of the IGBTs are generated through FPGA embedded in dSPACE 1006. The experimental and the simulation results prove the practicability of the FOC to FPIM fed from a DMC.

Abstract:This paper proposes an indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) system of induction motor using active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC). A reduced-order rotor flux observer is used to observe the rotor flux. With the help of extended state observer (ESO) and nonlinear state-error feedback (NLSEF), the unknown disturbances such as the load disturbance and unmodeled dynamics, can be estimated and compensated, which guarantees the robustness of IM drive. Furthermore, to simplify the parameter tuning process of ADRC, we adopt the bandwidth based optimization method and perform the inertia estimation using the periodical speed signal. Effective experimental results are included.

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of harmonic currents in the conventional vector control of multiphase induction motor, the rotor field oriented control (RFOC) strategy with harmonic current closed-loop control is proposed in the paper. Based on the transform theory of the multiphase system and the RFOC strategy of three-phase induction motor, the mathematical modulation of RFOC for five-phase induction motor is modeled. The fundamental current and the second order harmonic current can be controlled independently after being decoupled. The proposed strategy is implemented with a board microcomputer that uses TMS320F28335 DSP. The experimental results show that the proposed RFOC strategy with harmonic current closed-loop control has outstanding dynamic and static performance.

Abstract:For the efficient speed control of three phase Induction motor, the Vector control or Field oriented control (FOC) technique is used for the Voltage source inverter. In implementing FOC the angular position of the rotor flux vector is to be determined. There are two methods (direct and indirect) of vector control for the evaluation of rotor angle. In an Indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) method rotor angle is estimated from slip frequency and rotor frequency without using a sensor (sensors are used in direct FOC) which are achieved in a synchronously rotating frame. IFOC produces high performance in induction motor drives by decoupling rotor flux and torque, so it can be separately controlled by stator direct-axis current and quadrature-axis current respectively, like in a DC motor. The rotor flux orientation method is used for incorporating PI control system using the Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique. The Induction motor drive control generally involves three different PI controllers for torque, speed, and flux respectively. Through the simulation result, varying the load torque, and reference speed is achieved within a few milliseconds, and the behavior of the separately excited DC motor is observed.

Abstract:The Particle Swarm Optimized (PSO) fuzzy controller has been proposed for indirect vector control of induction motor. In this proposed scheme a Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) multilevel inverter is used and hysteresis current control technique has been adopted for switching the IGBTs. A Mamdani type fuzzy controller is used in place of conventional PI controller. To ensure better performance of fuzzy controller all parameters such as membership functions, normalizing and de-normalizing parameters are optimized using PSO. The performance of proposed controller is investigated under various load and speed conditions. The simulation results show its stability and robustness for high performance derives applications.

Abstract:This paper introduces two kinds of control schemes: vector control and direct torque control (DTC). These control schemes can be extensively applied to the operation of a five-phase induction motor using a fully digital implementation. Vector control of the five-phase induction motor not only achieves high drive performance, but also generates the desired nearly rectangular current waveforms and flux profile in the air-gap resulting in an improvement in air gap flux density and an increase of 10% in output torque. The DTC method has additional advantages when applied to multiphase, in this case a five-phase, induction motor. The five-phase inverter provides 32 space voltage vectors in comparison to 8 space voltage vectors provided by the three-phase inverter. Therefore, a more elaborate flux and torque control algorithm for the five-phase induction motor can be employed. Direct torque control of the five-phase induction motor reduces the amplitude of the ripples of both the stator flux and the torque, resulting in a more precise flux and torque control. A 32-b floating-point TMS320C32 digital signal processor (DSP) enables these two sophisticated control techniques to be conveniently implemented with high control precision. Experimental results show that an ideal control capability is obtained for both control methods when applied to the five-phase induction motor and further validates theoretical analysis.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose the application of a speed estimation strategy to a fuzzy logic control flux estimator for a sensorless adaptive rotor flux direct-vector-controlled (RFDVC) induction motor drive. The RFDVC induction motor drive was established using the stator current and rotor flux, with the stator current being obtained from the induction motor. The model reference adaptive system (MRAS) theory was utilized to develop an adaptive rotor flux estimator based on voltage-model and current-model flux estimators. The estimated rotor speed and synchronous angle position are derived from the adaptive flux estimator. The adjustment mechanism of this estimator was designed using the fuzzy logic control strategy because this scheme is simple, easy to implement, and requires no precise information about the mathematical model. The MATLAB/Simulink® toolbox was used to simulate this system, and all the control algorithms were realized using a TI 6713-and-F2812 DSP card to validate this approach. Both the simulation and experimental results (including the estimated rotor speed, electromagnetic torque, and stator flux locus) confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed system and thereby validate the proposed approach.

Abstract:A new torque direct control of induction machines is presented. The space vector modulation (SVM) technique is applied to the voltage source inverter, so that the torque, flux and stator current ripples are reduced. As compared to other SVM-based DTC (direct torque control) methods, stator flux and torque controllers of the new approach are developed on variable structure control theory and don't use the information of rotor speed. The DSP-based implementation of the scheme is developed in detail. The experimental results show that the system has good dynamic torque response with small ripples.

Abstract:In this paper, conventional PI controller, sliding mode controller (SMC) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for rotor field oriented controlled (RFOC) induction motor drives are studied comparatively. PI is simple but sensitive to parameter variations. SMC provides strong robustness to parameters variations, disturbance rejection and system order reduction. FLC does not need exact system mathematical model and can handle intricate nonlinearity, but its implementation is more complicated than that of PI and SMC. Comparative study of PI, SMC and FLC are carried out from four aspects: dynamic performance and steady-state accuracy, parameter robustness, and complexity of implementation. The experimental results show that both SMC and FLC provide more excellent performance than conventional PI, while SMC is easier to implement than FLC.

Abstract:Compared with field orient control (FOC), direct torque control (DTC) is known to provide fast and robust response for induction motors. However, while offering high dynamic performance, classical DTC produces notable torque, flux, and current ripples, and operates with a variable inverter switching frequency. In this paper, a novel torque control scheme for induction motors is proposed. The stator flux and the electrical torque are directly controlled by variable-structure controllers, and stator voltage vectors calculated by the variable-structure controllers are applied to the motor by means of space vector modulation. The proposed scheme therefore provides smooth, fast and robust regulations of the electrical torque and the stator flux. Moreover, the implementation of the scheme is simple. Theoretical analysis shows the asymptotical convergence of electrical torque and stator flux tracking. Simulation and experimental results are provided to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:Indirect field oriented control (IFOC) is known to produce high performance in induction motor (IM) drives by decoupling rotor flux and torque producing current components of stator current. The decoupling control between the rotor flux and the torque is no longer achieved in terms of stator current components considering core loss into account. To overcome the perturbation effects of core loss, we introduce a decoupled rotor flux and torque control based on the magnetizing current components by incorporating PI control system and using space vector modulation (SVM) technique. It is able to perform high performance control in IM drives using SVM technique. In order to perform the control strategy, the rotor flux and magnetizing current estimator is proposed. The design of the proposed observer is based on Lyapunov's stability method whose estimation error converges to zero exponentially irrespective of the input. Simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed control as well as rotor flux and magnetizing current estimation for IFOC of IM drives. A good performance is obtained by means of PI controller and SVM technique, and the rotor flux and the magnetizing current are obtained properly by the proposed observer.

Abstract:Induction motors are characterized by complex, highly nonlinear, and time-varying dynamics and inaccessibility of some states and outputs for measurements, and hence may be considered as a challenging engineering problem. The advent of vector control techniques has partially solved induction motor control problems because they are sensitive to drive parameter variations and performance may deteriorate if fixed parameter controller are used. Fuzzy logic-based controllers are considered as potential candidates for such application. This paper presents some design approaches of intelligent control systems combining conventional control techniques with fuzzy logic and neural networks. Such a hybrid implementation leads to a more effective control design with improved system performance and robustness. While conventional control allows different design objectives, such as steady state and transient characteristics of the closed-loop system to be specified, fuzzy logic techniques are integrated to overcome the problems with uncertainties in the plant parameters and structure encountered with classical model-based design. Two control approaches are developed and applied to adjust the speed of the drive system. The first control design combines the variable structure theory with fuzzy logic concept. In the second approach, a fuzzy state feedback controller is developed based on pole placement technique. A simulation study of these methods is presented. The effectiveness of these controllers is demonstrated for different operating conditions of the drive system.

Abstract:The induction motors have wide range of applications for due to its well-known advantages like brushless structures, low costs and robust performances. Over the past years, many kind of control methods are proposed for the induction motors and direct torque control has gained huge importance inside of them due to fast dynamic torque responses and simple control structures. However, the direct torque control method has still some handicaps against the other control methods and most of the important of these handicaps is high torque ripple. This paper suggests a new approach, Fuzzy logic based space vector modulation, on the direct torque controlled induction motors and aim of the approach is to overcome high torque ripple disadvantages of conventional direct torque control. In order to test and compare the proposed direct torque control method with conventional direct torque control method simulations, in Matlab/Simulink,have been carried out in different working conditions. The simulation results showed that a significant improvement in the dynamic torque and speed responses when compared to the conventional direct torque control method.

Abstract:This paper presents the design and implementation of Fuzzy-SMC-PI methodology to control the flux and speed of an induction motor. The Fuzzy-SMC-PI is basically a combination of Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and PI control methodologies through fuzzy logic. In this strategy, SMC is responsive during transient state while PI control becomes fully active in the steady state area. This will ensure that the final controller will avoid SMC's inherent chattering problem in steady state and PI's sensitivity, overshoot, long settling time and rise time problems. The combination of both control strategies through fuzzy logic provides a mean to create a hybrid control strategy that produce minimum overshoot, faster settling time and an almost chatter free system. The resulting hybrid system operates by sliding between SMC and PI mode depending on the condition imposed by internal parameter perturbation and external factors such as load torque. Simulations of the proposed Fuzzy-SMC-PI strategy on the flux and speed controllers displayed diminished chatter, overshoot and significant reduction of settling time. One other significant result of applying Fuzzy-SMC-PI strategy on the flux component of the system is that optimum flux level is attained fairly quicker. This resulted in faster rise time and the motor reaching its targeted speed much earlier.
