Abstract:Problem of neutral-point voltage unbalance is a key issue for 3-phase 4-wire 3-level NPC inverter. This paper analyzes the relationship between the neutral point voltage and the neutral point current. Neutral-point voltage problem is transformed into neutral-point current problem. Then value of neutral-point current under balanced and unbalanced load condition is calculated. According to the mathematical analysis, a neutral point voltage control strategy is investigated. The simulation and experimental results verify control method.

Abstract:It is believed that it has great influence on the credibility of the system run whether neutral-point voltage balanced or not in the three-level inverter direct torque control system. Through the analysis of voltage vector, this paper puts forward a new synthesized method of direct torque control electric voltage vector. This new method can produce dissimilarity electric voltage vector according to a certain proper order and carry out direct torque control. Meanwhile it can control neutral-point voltage stability as well. The author experiments the conclusion by the simulation procedure with actual equipments and this new method is proved to be useful.

Abstract:The unbalance of neutral-point potential (NPP) is an important problem in three-level converter. This paper proposes a neutral-point potential balancing control method with the third harmonic injected pulse width modulation (PWM) for three-level converters, which can a) realize better steady and dynamic performance of restraining the NPP unbalance; b) realize the similar performance with the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) but with less amount of calculation; c) be applied in multiple operating modes such as grid-tied/off-grid mode, voltage-source/current-source mode. Finally, simulation results are presented, which validate the performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:In order to maintain the neutral-point voltage balance of neutral-point-clamped (NPC) shunt active power filter(APF), a neutral-point voltage balance strategy based on reference vector angle prediction is proposed in this paper. The proposed approach considers the effect of every vector on neutral-point voltage and corresponding switching sequences for the reference vector in each sector. By modifying the reference vector angle to select optimized switching sequences, the approach maintains dc-bus capacitor voltage balance and reduces neutral-point voltage ripples. Simulation is performed in Matlab to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:A novel control method applied in three-phase three-level inverter was proposed to realize neutral-point potential(NNP) balancing.In the voltage loop,aiming at the lst-order model of NNP,the 2nd-order non-linear expanded state observer(ESO) was adopted to estimate the disturbance of NNP in real-time,and a non-linear PI(NLPI) controller was designed to suppress the disturbance and control the bus voltage.A 10 kW prototype was designed and developed,and the experiment results validate that not only the proposed method can suppress the fluctuation of NNP,but improve the robustness of the system.

Abstract:The neutral-point balancing control of neutral-point-clamped (NPC) three-level inverter is concerned. To solve this problem, two steps are considered. First, a new state-space model of DC bus voltage is established to extract the fluctuation of neutral-point potential (NPP) as a special disturbance. Then, an advanced voltage control strategy is designed based on fractional-order active disturbance rejection control (FO-ADRC) to suppress NPP. The developed FO-ADRC can not only compensate the fluctuation of NPP without a complex process of parameter turning, but enhance the robustness of the NPC inverter. Experiments are performed on a 10kW prototype of three-phase three-level inverter, and the efficiency is verified.

Abstract:The unbalance of neutral voltage is a natural phenomenon of neutral-point-clamped(NPC) three-level inverter.To solve this problem,this paper proposes a precise neutral current control method.The neutral voltage can be balanced by adjusting p-type small vector and n-type small vector,which have opposite effect to neutral current.Distribution ratio and changing time of those small vectors are discussed in both idea situation and general situation.With this method,the voltage control loop can suppress the fluctuation of neutral voltage and eliminate the DC bias.

Abstract:Neutral-Point voltage fluctuation is one of the most important issues of NPC three-level inverters. In this paper, two kinds of control region are proposed to evaluate the control effect of neutral-point voltage balancing schemes. Basing on hysteresis control strategy, the paper analyses the control region in SPWM and SVPWM respectively and finds their relationship, it also finds the relation between control effect and circuit parameters in different PWM method. The analyses are verified through simulation in MAT LAB.

Abstract:The medium and high voltage three-level inverter fed by a three-level active front end shows high performance in terms of power regeneration, power factor, input and output harmonics distortion. SVPWM, a common used algorithm for controlling inverter, must be modified for balancing dc bus neutral-point potential in the inverter. In this case, output harmonics will inevitably increase. In order to overcome this drawback, a neutral-point potential balancing (NPB) strategy which is implemented at the front end is presented. Because this strategy does not modify SVPWM algorithm, the output harmonics of the inverter is low and load motor's rotating magnetic field is more close to round in shape. The basic principle of the proposed NPB is introduced and input and output performance comparisons of the converter are made between the NPB strategies implemented at the AFE and at the inverter respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy is correct and effective.

Abstract:As a typical topology of power conversion system (PCS), three-phase three-level T-type inverter (3LT2I) may have the problem of neutral-point (NP) voltage unbalance under nonunity power factor (PF), of which the mechanism is analyzed in this paper. Based on the analysis, an NP voltage balancing method is proposed. It adjusts modulation wave according to the direction of both the modulation wave and the inductor current. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by experimental results.

Abstract:The neutral-point voltage-balancing control is a critical issue of a neutral-point-clamped converter. The conventional control strategy is to inject the specific zero-sequence voltage to regulate the redundant vector, but it is unacceptable to the three-phase four-wire system. This paper provides a neutral-point voltage-balancing control by the dipolar modulation, and the control freedom of the zero-sequence voltage is flexible. Therefore, the proposed method is suitable for both three-phase three-wire and three-phase four-wire systems. Besides, the proposed method improves the control dynamic in a reactive power system. The proposed neutral-point voltage-balancing control is verified by the mathematical analysis and experimental results. The control dynamic, power loss estimation, and the output current performance are analyzed in this paper.

Abstract:A new method of neutral-point balance based on hysteresis-band control for NPC three-level inverters is proposed in this paper. The neutral-point will be balanced by PWM control according to the direction of neutral-point current and the state of neutral-point voltage. The neutral-point current direction is got by output current of each phase and PWM group. The state of neutral point voltage is decided by hysteresis-band control. PWM group will be regrouped when it goes against the neutral point potential balance. Being independent of PWM mode, this scheme can be used in any PWM mode for neutral-point balance control. The amplitude of neutral point voltage ripple and the switch times of IGBT can be adjusted by regulating the width of hysteresis-band. The method is verified by simulation and experiment of three-level converter with SHEPWM control scheme.

Abstract:This paper describes a high-performance neutral point voltage balancing technique for a neutral point clamped (NPC) converter. Conventional neutral point voltage balancing methods do not function well under low power factor, low pulse ratio, and near-unity modulation index operation conditions. These conditions are essentially dominant operation conditions for aircraft starter/generator systems. This paper introduces an alternative space vector modulation technique for three-level NPC converters in an aircraft starter generator system. The selection of voltage space vectors is optimized for high modulation index and low power factor operation. Disturbances caused by a low pulse ratio are also compensated. The proposed method maintains neutral point voltage balance and ripple minimization over the full range of operating conditions. This paper also provides a detailed analysis of the sources of neutral point voltage imbalances and ripples in high-speed drives with deep flux weakening. Simulation results obtained from a Simulink/PLECS model and experimental results obtained from a 45 kVA, 32 krpm aircraft starter generator test rig prove that the proposed method eliminates the neutral point voltage imbalance and significantly reduces the neutral point voltage ripple.

Abstract:This paper presents a neutral-point potential balancing method for the three-level active neutral-point clamped (3L-ANPC) converter using phase-shifted pulse-width modulation (PS-PWM). With PS-PWM, all the switches are operated at the same constant switching frequency and the even distribution of switching losses can be achieved easily. The relationship between the neutral-point current and zero-sequence voltage is investigated and an optimum zero-sequence voltage can be calculated to regulate the neutral-point potential. Steady and dynamic experimental results are presented to verify the validity of this method.

Abstract:The three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI) is a promising power converter for renewable applications, where low total harmonic distortion and adjustable output voltage are highly demanded. Similar to the conventional transformerless three-level NPC inverter, common-mode voltage (CMV) and neutral-point voltage (NPV) issues should be addressed properly for the NPC-qZSI. Thus, this paper proposes a new control strategy for the NPC-qZSI to reduce CMV and balance NPV simultaneously by taking advantage of an additional control freedom enabled by the impedance network, i.e., three types of shoot-through states. The proposed strategy can achieve the CMV reduction by choosing the essential switching vectors with acceptable CMVs, while the NPV can be balanced by rearranging the chosen switching vectors in a switching cycle. Experimental tests are provided, which verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in terms of CMV reduction and NPV balancing.

Abstract:Three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter is used in many industrial applications due to its attractive advantages in terms of harmonics content, achieved power level, and electromagnetic interference reduction. However, the main concern in this topology is the imbalance of the neutral point (NP) voltage in the dc side of the inverter. Indeed, the NP voltage distorts the output voltage of the inverter and increases voltage stress on its switching devices. In this article, a new NP voltage balancing control based on modified three-level space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is proposed. The core idea of this method consists in adjusting the application times of redundant vectors in such a way that the NP voltage is kept balanced. In this method, the appropriate adjustment direction is determined by measuring only the capacitor voltages and the output currents of the inverter. The performances of the proposed method are validated and compared through various experimental tests, and the obtained results show an excellent NP voltage balancing regardless of the modulation index values.
