Abstract:The array-space MUSIC requires large calculated amount usually during DOA estimation.In order to resolve this problem,the algorithm based on beam-space MUSIC is adopted.The calculated amount of this algorithm is lower than array-space MUSIC and is used in MIMO radar DOA estimation.Simulation results show that the performance of beam-space MUSIC is good all the same though the calculated amount of eigen-decomposition of covariance matrix is reduced.

Abstract:In the field of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, coprime array is a new type of array rising in recent years. It significantly improves the degree of freedom (DOF), cope with scenarios when the number of sources is larger than that of array elements compared with traditional uniform linear array (ULA). In this paper we study the DOA estimation method based on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar with coprime array, build the coprime array signal model, obtain the steering vector of the virtual array and calculate the coprime array signal covariance matrix which can be disposed by Capon and multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. We develop the Capon-MUSIC algorithm to deal with situations when the target number is unknown. Compared with the ULA with equal array elements, simulation experiments verify the superiority of DOA estimation performance of coprime array.

Abstract:We introduce a modified multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm to estimate the directions of arrival (DOAs) of multiple radio frequency signals. We specifically consider an antenna array with an imperfectly calibrated array response. The modified MUSIC algorithm estimates the DOA of each signal individually after attempting to null the other signals that are present. We compare the new approach to the conventional MUSIC algorithm in simulations, and show that the new approach leads to improved performance. The new approach converges quickly and produces DOA estimates with smaller mean error and standard deviation than MUSIC over a range of incident signal separations. We recommend our approach for systems with challenging antenna placements, a time varying host platform, and limited processing capabilities.

Abstract:The DOA estimation in array signal processing is one of the important and emerging research area. The effectiveness of this direction of arrival estimation greatly determines the performance of smart antennas. It works on the digitized output from each sensor array. The estimation results for coherent signals, broadband signals and multiple signals are of greater consideration. Various information of the parameters relating to a particular wave can be obtained by analyzing the incoming wave that is received by a sensor or an array of sensors. The accuracy in the estimation of direction of arrival is very crucial in array signal processing. DOA estimation has vital applications in radar, sonar, seismology, earthquake, astronomy, biomedicine and communication. This paper presents an overview of direction of arrival estimation using the MUSIC algorithm. This algorithm is a peak search method to estimate the arrival angle. The paper emphasizes on the factors that can affect the results of the estimation process and describes the concept of estimating the arrival angle. The MATLAB simulations shown here highlight the factors that can improve accuracy. The factors include the array element spacing, number of array elements, number of snapshots and the signal incidence angle difference. Attempts are made to bring about better resolution and contrast. As the conventional MUSIC algorithm is found to have less efficiency for coherent signals, better simulations using an improved MUSIC algorithm in provided in this paper.

In this paper, a novel array location calibration method of MUSIC (multiple signal classification) algorithm based on the virtual interpolated array is proposed. First, the paper introduces the antenna array positioning scheme. Then, the self-calibration algorithm of FIR-Winner filter based on virtual interpolation array is derived, and its application restriction are also analyzed. Abstract:The traditional DOA estimation algorithm for narrowband arrays is sensitivity to the signal bandwidth ,its performance declines while the bandwidth becomes larger .This paper uses coherent signal‐subspace method(CMS)to study on the DOA estimation for broadband signals .The coherent signal‐subspace method (CMS)maps the signal subspaces of different frequencies to the same reference frequency by constructing the focusing matrix .The result of broadband DOA estimation can then be approximated by a narrow band model in the frequency domain .The traditional MUSIC algorithm has been widely used in narrowband DOA estimation because it offers a good trade‐off between performance and complexity .Its statistical performance has mainly been characterized in the case where the number of snapshots converges to positive infinity while the number of antennas remains fixed .In practical ,the cor‐responding conclusion is valid only when the number of snapshots is much larger than that of antennas in finite sample size .However ,the number of antennas is large in practical and the number of available snapshots is limited . When both the number of antennas and that of snapshots converge to positive infinity at the same rate ,the DOA es‐timators of MUSIC algorithm will be asymptotically biased .In this paper ,Spike‐MUSIC algorithm is applied to CSM to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation for broadband signals ,the error of DOA estimation is simulated under different signal to noise ratios ,the simulation experiments show that when compared to CSM ,the improved CSM based on Spike‐MUSIC algorithm can estimate DOA with higher accuracy .

Abstract:Mutual interference in automotive radar will reduce the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the received signals. It is difficult to accurately distinguish the signal subspace and the noise subspace for low SNR signals, which will degrade the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation performance of the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. To solve this problem, this letter proposes a DOA estimation method for automotive radar based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and MUSIC in the case of interference. In our method, the interference signals are suppressed before the DOA estimation. The received signals of the receiving antennas affected by the interference are decomposed into several components by using EMD, and then the interference signals in the interference components are suppressed. Finally, all the received signals are used for the DOA estimation. The results of the simulation and field experiments show that the proposed method can obtain an accurate DOA estimation when the received signals contain the interference signals, and the performance of the proposed method is better than the existing DOA estimation algorithms.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the traditional MUSIC algorithm on the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation technique under the low signal to noise ratio(SNR) cannot distinguish the direction of arrival of strongly correlated signals, an improved MUSIC algorithm is proposed. The covariance matrix method is used to decompose features to construct the noise subspace, and then the two strongly correlated signals with small angle difference can be identified in the low signal-to-noise ratio environment. Taking the signal-to-noise ratio reduced to 4dB as an example, the spectral peaks of two correlated signals of MUSIC algorithm in imitated diagram have disappeared, but the improved MUSIC algorithm can still distinguish the spectral peaks clearly. The results show that the improved MUSIC algorithm has higher resolution than MUSIC algorithm under the same conditions, and can be applied in harsher environment.

Abstract:In this paper the correlation spectrum of antenna array is introduced. Based on the relationship between the correlation spectrum and space spectrum of MUSIC, we proposed a novel approach to improve the DOA estimation by arranging the linear antenna array elements using genetic algorithm (GA) in optimizing the correlation spectrum. The DOA estimation performance of the optimized array is validated by Monte Carlo simulation and Cramer-Rao bound (CRB), which are improved compared with that of the traditional uniform linear array and the Minimum-Redundancy array (MRA).

Abstract:In this article, we study the problem of angle estimation for bistatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar and propose an improved multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm for joint direction of departure (DOD) and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation. The proposed algorithm obtains initial estimations of angles obtained from the signal subspace and uses the local one-dimensional peak searches to achieve the joint estimations of DOD and DOA. The angle estimation performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT) algorithm, and is almost the same as that of two-dimensional MUSIC. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can be suitable for irregular array geometry, obtain automatically paired DOD and DOA estimations, and avoid two-dimensional peak searching. The simulation results verify the effectiveness and improvement of the algorithm.

Abstract:Application of subspace-based algorithms to narrowband direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation requires that both the array response in all directions of interest and the spatial covariance of the noise must be known. In practice, however, neither of these quantities is known precisely. Depending on the degree to which they deviate from their nominal values, serious performance degradation can result. The performance of the MUSIC algorithm is examined for situations in which the noise covariance and array response are perturbed from their assumed values. Theoretical expressions for the error in the MUSIC DOA estimates are derived and compared with simulations performed for several representative cases, and with the appropriate Cramer-Rao bound. An optimally weighted version of MUSIC is proposed for a particular class of array errors.<>

Abstract:This paper focuses on the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for noncircular coherently distributed (CD) sources with nested arrays. Usually, for point sources, sparse arrays have the potential to improve the estimation performance of algorithms by obtaining more degrees of freedom. However, algorithms have to be reconsidered for CD sources with sparse arrays and many problems arise. One thorny problem is the disappearance of displacement invariance of the virtual array manifold constructed by the virtualization technique. To deal with this issue, a nested array processing method for CD sources transmitting noncircular signals is proposed in this paper. Firstly, we construct the virtual sum-and-difference co-array by leveraging the noncircular quality of signals with a nested array. Then, an approximation is made to degrade CD sources into point sources. In this way, spatial smoothing techniques can be applied to restore the rank. Finally, in order to reduce the complexity, we modify the reduced-dimension MUSIC to estimate DOAs through a one-dimensional peak-searching procedure. The simulation results prove the superiority of our algorithm against other competitors.

Abstract:Larger array aperture is provided by sparse arrays than uniform ones, which can improve the angle estimation resolution and reduce the cost of system evidently. However, manifold ambiguity is introduced due to the array sparsity. In this paper, a Power Estimation Multiple-Signal Classification (PE-MUSIC) algorithm is proposed to solve the manifold ambiguity of arbitrary sparse arrays for uncorrelated sources in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar. First, the paired direction of departure (DOD) and direction of arrival (DOA) are obtained for all targets by MUSIC algorithm, including the true and spurious ones; then, the well-known Davidon–Fletcher–Powell (DFP) algorithm is applied to estimate all targets’ power values, among which the value of a spurious target trends to zero. Therefore, the ambiguity of sparse array in MIMO radar can be cleared. Simulation results verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the method.

Abstract:The problem of direction of arrival (DOA) estimation with co-prime linear arrays is researched. An improved DOA estimation algorithm based on root-multiple signal classification (MUSIC) is proposed. The method can solve the matching error problem in Sun's algorithm. In addition, it can make full use of signal space and noise space to improve the estimation accuracy with low complexity. Experimental results verify the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:An attitude of satellite is not always static, sometimes it moves randomly and the antenna pointing of satellite is harder to achieve line of sight communication to other satellite when it is outage by tumbling effect. In order to determine an appropriate direction of satellite antenna in inter-satellite link, this paper analyze estimation performance of the direction of arrival (DoA) using MUSIC algorithm from connected satellite signal source. It differs from optical measurement, magnetic field measurement, inertial measurement, and global positioning system (GPS) attitude determination. The proposed method is characterized by taking signal source from connected satellites, after that the main satellite processed the information to obtain connected satellites antenna direction. The simulation runs only on the direction of azimuth. The simulation result shows that MUSIC algorithm processing time is faster than satellite movement time in orbit on altitude of 830 km with the period of 101 minutes. With the use of a 50 elements array antenna in spacing of 0.5 wavelength, the total of 20 angle of arrival (AoA) can be detected in 0.98 seconds of processing time when using MUSIC algorithm.

Abstract:The invention discloses an antenna array signal processing method and a device. Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation with least user operation is realized on commercial wireless equipment, and an estimation method is expanded to the three-dimensional space and the multi-path environment. The method comprises steps that S10, phase difference of OFDM signals received before and after first and second rotation of an antenna array is respectively calculated, and an inertia sensor is further utilized to measure rotation angles of first and second rotation; S11, equivalent DOA calculation is carried out according to the phase difference; and S12, a two-dimensional DOA of the OFDM signals received before and after first and second rotation of the antenna array in a plane composed of the signal direction and the antenna array is calculated according to the equivalent DOA and the rotation angles.

Abstract:One of the most important field in array signal processing is direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, which is applicable in wireless and mobile communications. We consider the problem of estimating the DOA for reactance-based uniform circular arrays (UCAs). In this paper, a new technique of estimating DOAs is proposed for the reactance-based UCA antenna as well as a method to calculate optimal reactance values. This technique is based on the modified reactance domain MUltiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Simulation results show that DOAs can be estimated by the active ports reactance domain MUSIC (APRD-MUSIC) algorithm for reactance-based UCA antennas. By optimizing the reactance values, the proposed system obtains good performance in estimating DOAs in terms of resolution and error estimation. Simulation and measurement results show that high-resolution DOA estimation can be achieved by using APRD-MUSIC algorithm for Reactance based UCA antennas.

Abstract:Modern mobile devices are equipped with multiple antennas, which brings various wireless sensing applications such as accurate localization, contactless human detection and wireless human-device interaction. A key enabler for these applications is phased array signal processing, especially Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation. However, accurate AoA estimation on commodity devices is non-trivial due to limited number of antennas and uncertain phase offsets. Previous works either rely on elaborate calibration or involve contrived human interactions. In this paper, we aim to enable practical AoA measurements on commodity off-the-shelf (COTS) mobile devices. The key insight is to involve users' natural rotation to formulate a virtual spatial-temporal antenna array and conduce a relative incident signal of measurements at two orientations. Then by taking the differential phase, it is feasible to remove the phase offsets and derive the accurate AoA of the equivalent incoming signal, while the rotation angle can also be captured by built-in inertial sensors. On this basis, we propose Differential MUSIC (D-MUSIC), a relative form of the standard MUSIC algorithm that eliminates the unknown phase offsets and achieves accurate AoA estimation on COTS mobile devices with only one rotation. We further extend D-MUSIC to 3-D space and fortify it in multipath-rich scenarios. We prototype D-MUSIC on commodity WiFi infrastructure and evaluate it in typical indoor environments. Experimental results demonstrate a superior performance with an average AoA estimation error of 13 degrees. Requiring no modifications or calibration, D-MUSIC is envisioned as a promising scheme for practical AoA estimation on COTS mobile devices.

Abstract:The paper analyzes the measurement error of UCA-MUSIC (Uniform Circular Array of Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm. The simulation results show that the experimental error is mainly from the effective radius and the direction of the calibration antenna. The common trait of these two kinds of error is that they have strong influence on the experiment value of the angle of the depression, at the meantime, have little effect on the azimuth angle.
