Abstract:A canonical formalism for quantum electrodynamics in curved spacetime is developed. This formalism enables a systematic investigation of photons in the Schwarzschild gravitational field, yielding novel results as well as refining previous results that were predicted by heuristic methods. The claim that "the gravitational redshift is a shift in the sharp frequencies of the photons for all frequencies of the spectrum" is proved. It is shown the gravitational decoherence is due to photon-gravity coupling and observer-dependent quantum electrodynamics in curved spacetime phenomena. The proper value of the photon gravitational interferometric relative phase shift is calculated and its full quantum-general relativistic nature is demonstrated. It is shown its observation will falsify the validity of Newtonian gravity and the extension of the Einstein equivalence principle beyond a single point (even in the weak uniform gravitational field.)

Testing Models of 'Gravity' Using a Quantum Computer

Abstract:This article begins by putting forth a model that shows how the storage and retrieval of information on a wave function that involves quantum entanglement behaves similarly to the concepts of length contraction and time dilation, respectively. An exploration is then made to see if another model can be generated based on the one previously mentioned that guides the time evolution of a quantum system in a manner similar to that of gravity. The answer is made in the affirmative, after testing a series of models, by producing a field that is mediated solely by the transfer of quantum information using both quantum entanglement and wave function collapse. While it is readily acknowledged that the effective field produced may not be gravity, the study provides arguments about why the concepts presented do in fact provide fundamental insights about the true nature of gravity as opposed to merely generating similar behavior to gravity. The study moves on to study how a system with uniform effective potential behaves similarly to dark energy, albeit with a system whose construction is severely limited by computational resources. Finally, an exploration is made as to whether a negative gravitational mass can be produced. It is found that while an isolated particle with negative gravitational mass proves to be problematic according to this model, it seems as though a local region with negative gravitational mass can be produced as long as the resulting fields are cancelled out at larger distances.

A Possible Quantum Effect of Gravitation

Abstract:Beginning from the standard Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) formulation of general relativity we construct a tentative model of quantum gravity from the point of view of an observer with constant proper acceleration, just outside of a horizon of spacetime. In addition of producing the standard results of black-hole thermodynamics, our model makes an entirely new prediction that there is a certain upper bound for the energies of massive particles. For protons, for instance, this upper bound is around $1.1\times 10^{21}eV$. The result is interesting, because this energy is roughly of the same order of magnitude as are the highest energies ever measured for protons in cosmic rays.

Abstract:Experiments are beginning to probe the interaction of quantum particles with gravitational fields beyond the uniform-field regime. In non-relativistic quantum mechanics, the gravitational field in such experiments can be written as a superposition state. We empirically demonstrate that alternative theories of gravity can avoid gravitational superposition states only by decoupling the gravitational field energy from the quantum particle's time evolution. Furthermore, such theories must specify a preferred quantum reference frame in which the equations of motion are valid. To the extent that these properties are theoretically implausible, recent experiments provide indirect evidence that gravity has quantum features. Proposed experiments with superposed gravitational sources would provide even stronger evidence that gravity is nonclassical.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore the gravity theory, which introduces a coupling between matter and curvature, through the simplest linear functional form . We derive the modified Einstein field equations and conservation equations for this theory. We then apply this framework to study the structural properties of quark stars (QSs) composed of interacting quark matter, considering perturbative QCD corrections and color superconductivity. By solving the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations, we investigate the mass-radius relation, stability criteria, and energy conditions of QSs. Our results indicate that the gravity significantly influences the properties of QSs, leading to deviations from General Relativity. The analysis shows consistency with recent observational data, suggesting that the modified gravity framework could provide viable models for the study of compact stars.

Abstract:The extreme smallness of both the Planck length, on the one side, and the ratio of the gravitational to the electrical forces between, say, two electrons, on the other side has led to a widespread belief that the realm of quantum gravity is beyond terrestrial experiments. A series of classical and quantum arguments are put forward to dispel this view. It is concluded that whereas the smallness of the Planck length and the ratio of gravitational to electrical forces, does play its own essential role in nature, it does not make quantum gravity a science where humans cannot venture to probe her secrets. In particular attention is drawn to the latest neutron and atomic interferometry experiments, and to gravity wave interferometers. The latter, as Giovanni Amelino-Camelia argues [Nature 398, 216 (1999)], can be treated as probes of space-time fuzziness down to Planck length for certain quantum-gravity models.

Abstract:The synthesis of quantum and gravitational physics is sought through a finite, realistic, locally causal theory where gravity plays a vital role not only during decoherent measurement but also during non-decoherent unitary evolution. Invariant set theory is built on geometric properties of a compact fractal-like subset $I_U$ of cosmological state space on which the universe is assumed to evolve and from which the laws of physics are assumed to derive. Consistent with the primacy of $I_U$, a non-Euclidean (and hence non-classical) state-space metric $g_p$ is defined, related to the $p$-adic metric of number theory where $p$ is a large but finite Pythagorean prime. Uncertain states on $I_U$ are described using complex Hilbert states, but only if their squared amplitudes are rational and corresponding complex phase angles are rational multiples of $2 \pi$. Such Hilbert states are necessarily $g_p$-distant from states with either irrational squared amplitudes or irrational phase angles. The gappy fractal nature of $I_U$ accounts for quantum complementarity and is characterised numerically by a generic number-theoretic incommensurateness between rational angles and rational cosines of angles. The Bell inequality, whose violation would be inconsistent with local realism, is shown to be $g_p$-distant from all forms of the inequality that are violated in any finite-precision experiment. The delayed-choice paradox is resolved through the computational irreducibility of $I_U$. The Schr\"odinger and Dirac equations describe evolution on $I_U$ in the singular limit at $p=\infty$. By contrast, an extension of the Einstein field equations on $I_U$ is proposed which reduces smoothly to general relativity as $p \rightarrow \infty$. Novel proposals for the dark universe and the elimination of classical space-time singularities are given and experimental implications outlined.

Abstract:Considerable attention has been focused on Verlinde's recent work, claiming that Newton's gravity is not a fundamental force. In a recent work (arXiv:1012.5858), we give further the logic basis and basic clues to derive the Newton's gravity, inertia law and Einstein's weak equivalence principle. In this work, we show that if the gravity is not a fundamental force, in special case, it could be repulsive when quantum wavepacket effect is considered. This quantum gravity effect leads to several physical effects: (1) It is consistent with the universe with accelerating expansion, if the gravity and quantum effect of the fluctuating 'vacuum' (dark energy) is considered. The role of the cosmological constant is naturally interpreted when the gravity and quantum effect of the whole 'vacuum' background is considered. (2) It leads to new idea about black hole information paradox, no-hair theorem and Hawking radiation. (3) With a sphere full of superfluid Helium, we propose a feasible experimental scheme to test our idea with an atom interferometer placed in the sphere. Our calculations show that the accuracy Delta g/g below 10^(-8) could be used to test our idea, which satisfies the present experimental technique of atom interferometer.

Abstract:The literature on quantum-gravity-inspired scenarios for the quantization of spacetime has so far focused on particle-physics-like studies. This is partly justified by the present limitations of our understanding of quantum-gravity theories, but we here argue that valuable insight can be gained through semi-heuristic analyses of the implications for gravitational phenomena of some results obtained in the quantum-spacetime literature. In particular, we show that the types of description of particle propagation that emerged in certain quantum-spacetime frameworks have striking implications for gravitational collapse and for the behaviour of gravity at large distances.

Abstract:The numerical quantum electronic structure for the energies of the states of the hydrogen like atoms as given by Sommerfeld in 1915-16 is studied and is shown to present a scheme that is able to express a unique observer point of view. The perspective of this observer is essentially how he, if fixed on a trapped electron, would see his and his electron's state of containment within the full atomic quantum state. This particular internal view of a quantum state is then shown to have strong analytic powers in the extremely different numerical scale of gravitation theory. This unexpected analogy becomes possible when it is recognised that a basic part of gravitation theory can be expressed in terms completely analogous to the quantum relativistic electromagnetic structure involved in Sommerfeld's formula for quantum state energy. The introduction section brings together the essentials for the understanding of the electromagnetic side of this analogy and contains a condensation of some earlier work. The second section, Gravitation Analogy, develops a theory for gravitation which closely follows the quantum form to give an exact analogy to the Sommerfeld quantum theory of hydrogen atomic states. Abstract:The gravitational inverse square law is microscopic approximation. I suggest that it should be modified for elementary particles to use the surface-to-surface separation of the particles rather than the center-to-center separations. For small particles at macroscopic separations, the ratio between the center-to-center distance D and the surface-to-surface distance d, D/d, approaches unity. At microscopic separations, this ratio grows very large. Here I apply this ratio to several microscopic situations and derive the nuclear coupling constants. I will then present a model of a gluon/graviton transformation to justify my surface originating modification.

Evidence of gravitons as fused photons in four dimensions

Abstract:A model of graviton momentum transfer was constructed to investigate a conjecture that gravitons are fused photons propagating in four dimensions. The model describes gravitational attraction between two bodies, each of simplified geometric shape and comprised of a calculable number of massive particles (quarks and leptons), as a probabilistic quantized mechanism of graviton scattering that gives rise to gravitational momentum flux. Earth-Human, Moon-Human, and Earth-Moon gravitational systems were investigated to solve for the wavelength of photons that comprise the graviton. The calculated wavelength for each system was approximately equal to the predicted value of the Planck length, which is interpreted as evidence that gravitons may be formed as fused four dimensional photons. The results corroborate current thinking about the temperature at which gravity separated from a unified force during the Big Bang, while explaining the weakness of the gravitational force from the atomic to the sub-planetary scale. Extension of the model produces unique, testable predictions arising from the averaged quantum properties of the graviton as fused photons, and the general model approach may be compatible with other efforts to describe the inner structure of the graviton.

Abstract:A photon, according to modern quantum field theory, is a minimal change in the wave function for the electromagnetic field or, less formally, in the probability distribution for what detectors of electromagnetic radiation will sense. Here I explain that strange formulation, by building up to it through the general concept of quantum censorship. From this perspective, the resolution of blackbody radiation catastrophe has much in common with Feynman’s theory of superfluid He. The resolution, in quantum theory, of the ultraviolet catastrophe of black-body radiation theory can be viewed in various ways. Here I discuss it as a manifestation of quantum censorship – that is, lifting of energy degeneracy among classical modes through their re-organization into coherent superpositions. The difficulty of classical physics that initiated the quantum revolution was its (catastrophic) prediction of infinite energy for blackbody radiation at any non-zero temperature. The catastrophe arises because of the great abundance of high-frequency modes. In thermal equilibrium the average amplitudes for these modes are small, individually, but add up to infinite energy, contrary to observation. It is interesting to revisit that problem, in those concrete terms, in the context of modern, mature quantum theory. Of course, there is no question of deriving essentially new results for this old problem, but it can be entertaining to view things from different points of view, and it may turn out that doing so develops intuition that will prove
Thin-Shell Gravastar Model in $f(Q,T)$ Gravity

Abstract:In the last few decades, gravastars have been proposed as an alternative to black holes. The stability of the gravastar has been studied in many modified theories of gravity along with Einstein's GR. The $f(Q,T)$ gravity, a successfully modified theory of gravity for describing the current accelerated expansion of the Universe, has been used in this article to study gravastar in different aspects. According to Mazur and Mottola (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci 101, 9545 (2004)), it has three regions with three different equations of state. Here in this work, we have studied the interior of the gravastar by considering the $p=-\rho$ EoS to describe the dark sector for the interior region. The next region is a thin shell of ultrarelativistic stiff fluid, in which we have investigated several physical properties, viz., the proper length, energy, entropy, surface energy density, etc. In addition, we have studied the surface redshift and speed of sound to check the potential stability of our proposed thin-shell gravastar model. Apart from that, we have used the entropy maximization technique to verify the stability of the gravastar model. The gravastar's outer region is a complete vacuum described by exterior Schwarzschild geometry. Finally, we have presented a stable gravastar model which is singularity-free and devoid of any incompleteness in classical black hole theory.

Abstract:The new, complex-dynamical mechanism of the universal gravitation naturally incorporating dynamical quantization, wave-particle duality, and relativity of physically emerging space and time (quant-ph/9902015,16) provides the realistic meaning and fundamentally substantiated modification of the Planckian units of mass, length, and time approaching them closely to the extreme values observed for already discovered elementary particles. This result suggests the important change of research strategy in high-energy/particle physics, displacing it towards the already attained energy scales and permitting one to exclude the existence of elementary objects in the inexplicably large interval of parameters separating the known, practically more than sufficient set of elementary species and the conventional, mechanistically exaggerated values of the Planckian units. This conclusion is supported by the causally complete (physically and mathematically consistent) picture of the fundamental levels of reality derived, without artificial introduction of any structure or 'principle', from the unreduced analysis of the (generic) interaction process between two primal, physically real, but a priori structureless entities, the electromagnetic and gravitational protofields. The naturally emerging phenomenon of universal dynamic redundance (multivaluedness) of interaction process gives rise to the intrinsically unified hierarchy of unreduced dynamic complexity of the world, starting from the lowest levels of elementary objects, and explains the irreducible limitations of the basically single-valued approach of the canonical science leading to the well-known 'mysteries', separations, and loss of certainty.
Proportionality of gravitational and electromagnetic radiation by an electron in an intense plane wave

Abstract:Accelerated charges emit both electromagnetic and gravitational radiation. Classically, it was found that the electromagnetic energy spectrum radiated by an electron in a monochromatic plane wave is proportional to the corresponding gravitational one. Quantum mechanically, it was shown that the amplitudes of graviton photoproduction and Compton scattering are proportional to each other at tree level. Here, by combining strong-field QED and quantum gravity, we demonstrate that the amplitude of nonlinear graviton photoproduction in an arbitrary plane wave is proportional to the corresponding amplitude of nonlinear Compton scattering. Also, introducing classical amplitudes we prove that the proportionality relies on the semiclassical nature of the electron's motion in a plane wave and on energy-momentum conservation laws, leading to the same proportionality constant in the classical and quantum case. Superposition Principle in Relativistic Gravity

Abstract:We present a simple model for relativistic gravity. The model represents a gravitational field by a metric on a Minkowski space background. We introduce a new Lorentz-covariant metric for a single-source gravitation field, which is determined by the retarded position and the velocity of the source. This metric passes the tests and properly describes the strong gravitational field. Using this metric, we define the metric of a field generated by several moving sources. The explicit true acceleration of an object moving in this field is derived from the ``first-order" (in the masses of the sources) acceleration, which is linear in the sources. The field splits into near and far fields. We compare the far gravitational field of a binary star with electromagnetic quadruple radiation and present an algorithm for computing accelerations in such a field. These results may lead to a new understanding of gravitational waves and the structure and dynamics of galaxies

Black holes, photon sphere, and cosmology in ghost-free $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity

Abstract:The improved version of ghost-free $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity introduced in Phys.~Lett.~B \textbf{631} (2005), 1-6 is proposed and investigated. It is demonstrated that improved ghost-free $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity may be consistently applied to describe the expanding universe (with horizon) as well as the static spacetime like black holes. Interestingly, such a theory looks like a close avatar of scalar-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the only difference that the scalar field is not a dynamical one so that many predictions of ghost-free $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity are very similar to that of sEGB gravity. We discuss the gravitational wave in the improved model with the condition that the propagating speed of the gravitational wave is identical to that of the propagation speed of light. A model that describes inflation in the early universe and could satisfy the observational constraints is also constructed. The solution of ghost-free $f(\mathcal{G})$ gravity realising the given static spacetime with spherical symmetry is proposed. Some of such solutions realise explicitly the Reissner-Nordström black hole or the Hayward black hole, which is a regular black hole without curvature singularity, We also construct a black hole in our theory which contains the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) mass, the horizon radius, and the radius of the photon sphere as independent parameters. The radius of the black hole shadow in this model as well as photon sphere radius are estimated. It is shown that there exists a parameter region which satisfies the constraints coming from Event Horizon Telescope observations. Furthermore, we construct model where the radius of the black hole shadow or photon orbit is smaller than the horizon radius supposed from the ADM mass.

Modifying Gravity: You Can't Always Get What You Want

Abstract:The combination of GR and the Standard Model disagrees with numerous observations on scales from our Solar System up. In the concordance model of cosmology, these contradictions are removed or alleviated by the introduction of three completely independent new components of stress-energy -- the inflaton, dark matter, and dark energy. Each of these in its turn is meant to have (or to currently) dominate the dynamics of the universe. There is still no non-gravitational evidence for any of these dark sectors; nor for the required extensions of the standard model. An alternative is to imagine that GR itself must be modified. Certain coincidences of scale even suggest that one might expect not to have to make three independent. Because they must address the most different types of data, attempts to replace dark matter with modified gravity are the most controversial. A phenomenological model (or family of models), Modified Newtonian Dynamics, has, over the last few years seen several covariant realizations. We discuss a number of challenges that any model that seeks to replace dark matter with modified gravity must face: the loss of Birkhoff's Theorem, and the calculational simplifications it implies; the failure to explain clusters, whether static or interacting, and the consequent need to introduce dark matter of some form, whether hot dark matter neutrinos, or dark fields that arise in new sectors of the modified gravity theory; the intrusion of cosmological expansion into the modified force law, that arises precisely because of the coincidence in scale between the centripetal acceleration at which Newtonian gravity fails in galaxies, and the cosmic acceleration. We conclude with the observation that, although modified gravity may indeed manage to replace dark matter, it is likely to do so by becoming or incorporating, a dark matter theory itself.
