Abstract:We examined the human subject's head/eye characteristics when they tracked targets made up of periodic oscillating signals moving along horizontal direction. Our analyses focus on the effect of two different sinusoidal components of target motion on pursuit performance. This study revealed that the gaze tracking gains were modulated by the ratio of the two signals of difference oscillation frequency. We found that pursuit gains were declining with the ratio of the high frequency component increasing, and the high-frequency component had additional influences on the tracking movements of the head. Then, we used the delay of head movement to represent the process of learning behavior or the predictive ability of the subject. The result showed that there was significant decline of delay in single signal tracking task, which means significant learning and predicting procedure, but no significant decline in superposed signals.
