Abstract:•A novel remote sensing image denoising method based on generalized morphological component analysis.•GMCA algorithm is the further extension of MCA algorithm to the blind source separation framework.•PSNR and SSIM indices are calculated to assess the denoising effect from the gray-level and structure-level fidelity aspects, respectively.•Quantitative analysis on experiment results is consistent with the visual effect illustrated by recovered images.•It is even hard to distinguish the original noiseless image from the denoised image by adopting GMCA algorithm through visual effect.
