Abstract:In recent years,studies on the impact of internet on civil society in China become a heated field.We review present studies and point out their weaknesses here in a critical and reflective way.First,thanks to NGOs' contribution in 2008 Wenchuan great earthquake,many scholars overestimate the development of civil society in China;second,under western centrism and technological determinism,they simply interpret the internet as a platform for social forces to challenge the state;third,as to the issue of web public sphere,thinness of theoretical resources,inadequate inquiries of group polarization,and simplistic understanding of rationality in online discussion are major drawbacks.At last,to further the research,we propose some approaches:multiply theoretical foundations,shift research perspectives,explore new research methods and select proper methodology consciously and reflectively.

Abstract:Ethical literary criticism has been a methodology in China since 2004,as at that year two conferences in that field were held respectively in Nanchang and Yichang and then comes the highly-cited paper "Ethical Approach to Literary Studies: A New Perspective." Compared with ethic criticism in west countries,ethical literary criticism in China has its own features: it changes the literary ethics into ethical literary criticism as a mean efficiently to solve practical literary questions,uses the concept of ethical literary criticism rather than ethical criticism to construct its own discourse,and discusses the basic theoretical questions by case studies.It is those features that make it different from ethical criticism in the west,as well as moral criticism in China.

Abstract:In this paper, I survey some recent literature produced by the established Chinese philosophers who regularly publish in Chinese philosophy journals and work in Mainland China. Specifically, I review the recent research of these philosophers in two areas: Chinese Philosophy and epistemology. In each area, I focus on two topics that have caught the attention of a lot of Chinese philosophers. I argue that the Chinese philosophers’ research on these topics has two prevalent problems: (i) a lot of arguments they make are weak; (ii) they tend not to critically engage with others. I discuss a metaphilosophical objection that weak argumentation and disengagement are not vices of philosophical research. I also try to make sense of (i) and (ii) in terms of some cultural factors.

Abstract:This essay explores the history of studies in analytical philosophy in China since the beginning of the last century, by dividing into three phases. It shows that, in these phases, analytic philosophy was always at a disadvantage in confronting serious challenges coming from both Chinese traditional philosophy and modern philosophical trends. The authors argue that Chinese philosophers have both done preliminary studies and offered their own analyses of various problems as well as some new applications of analytic philosophy especially in the latest period. Meanwhile, Chinese traditional philosophy was always trying to adjust its cultural mentality in the struggle with analytic philosophy, and accommodated in its own way the rationalistic spirit and scientific method represented in analytic philosophy.

Abstract:The four volumes of China's Literary Theory Selection in All Ages edited by Guo Shaoyu represented the most influential academic achievement in the study of ancient literary theory in three decades.On this basis,combining with the new era affairs and politics,the article thinks that the writer's writing ways and motives should be considered fully in the selection of literary theory chapters.It is necessary to follow the own logic of the subject of Chinese literary criticism in reading the famous chapters,but even more important,the history restoration of the chapters is the key we have to do.To the researchers of ancient literary theory,it is a very important duty to reconstruct the classical writing world and explain it's contemporary significance.

Abstract:In recent years,more attention has been directed to problems in the studies of international relations in China,namely,separation of theory and practice,lack of originality in theory,methodology that lags behind,irregular academic criteria and weakness in academic criticism.As a result of reflections on these issues,the author suggests that being aware of these problems in our own studies will promote combination of international relation theories with practice and will be a means to ensure theoretical innovation.We should take advantage of our tradition in emphasizing history to enhance dialogue between theory and history,reinforce researches on methodology by adding to our store of knowledge skills of quantitative studies and improving our ability to conduct qualitative studies.Meanwhile,we should not neglect establishment of academic criteria to carry out academic criticism scientifically.

Abstract:The year 1956 witnessed a historical transition in the realm of ideology and culture in China after a long process of twists and turns.Just around the year,Fudan University together with other key universities in China established or reestablished their philosophy departments with disciplines on the Western philosophy,including its contemporary part.The anti-rightist movement of 1957 choked the progress and the situation was much worse in the Cultural Revolution,not until the end of which did the study resumed.Since the reform and opening,the study in this discipline has got through three main stages: to start from scratch;to abandon the simplified pattern of critique and turn to objective and practical studies;to integrate the discipline with the study of Marxist philosophy. It has made great progress in the academic faculty and the width and depth of the research,but inadequacies remain.It is necessary to study the contemporary Western philosophy further both in individual case and on the whole.To communicate with Chinese traditional philosophy and Marxist philosophy,this principle is supposed to draw on positive points and transcend the limits.

Abstract:This article examines the historical development of the study of science, technology, and society (STS) in China in relation to the features of contemporary Chinese society and the influence of Marxism tradition, the opening up of China, the system reform, and the evolving state of science and technology (S&T) and its history and cultural tradition. Marxism, especially natural dialectics, had a profound impact on China's STS knowledge system, research team, and disciplinary building. Since 1978, with the opening up of China, Western theories about the sociology of science have been introduced into China and have formed an ever-changing relationship with Marxism (natural dialectics). The system reform in China not only raised questions for STS scholars but also provided an opportunity to rethink relevant STS issues and possibilities for participatory research. At the same time, the conditions of China as an evolving state in S&T-along with its history, cultural traditions, and the particularity of Chinese society-have raised additional intriguing questions for STS research. This article considers the relationship and the paradox between Marxism and Western academic tradition, the object and nature of STS study, as well as the significance of STS research in East Asia and China.

Abstract:In his article "On World Literatures, Comparative Literature, and (Comparative) Cultural Studies" Ning Wang argues that cultural studies is characterized by being opposed to (elite) literary studies not only because it points to popular or non-elite literature, but also because it challenges the discipline of comparative literature. On the other hand, (comparative) cultural studies complements literary studies in that it contributes a great deal to the reconstruction of a sort of new comparative literature. Wang illustrates how some of the representative Anglo-American connparatists are now doing cultural criticism while still engaging in comparative literature and they paved the way for dialogue between literary and cultural studies. Therefore, deconstructing and subverting the Eurocentric discipline of comparative literature, (comparative) cultural studies has made a positive impact on the reconstruction of a new discipline of comparative literature and the field of world literatures. It has also enabled a remapping of world literatures by enlarging the canon with non-canonical Oriental literary works.

Abstract:In their article "A Survey of Twentieth-century Literary Theory and Criticism in Chinese" Xiaoming Chen and Anfeng Sheng survey Chinese-language scholarship that for the reason of the East-West divide is less known in the West. Although heavily influenced by both Western and Soviet Marxist thought, twentieth-century Chinese literary theorization and criticism produced much incisive scholarship based on the vast knowledge existing in Chinese culture and literary scholarship. Chen and Sheng survey pioneering works by numerous Chinese literary theorists and critics who have been influential in their own time and exerted persistent modeling influences until today and the article is meant to adjust the anonymous position of Chinese literary theorization in the West and thus to contribute to the diversity of literary studies.

Abstract:In the literary theory and aesthetics research after 1949, Zhou Xian has formulated the literary discourse norms but also deconstructed the challenge of literary rules. He is consciously introducing vanguard western theories and meanwhile reflects on the introduction of the theoretical studies to social practices. It is in the literary criticism to cultural criticism, aesthetics to trans-aesthetics, and the experts to the amateur that Zhou Xian presents an image of such a cross-border impulse, wandering viewpoint, theoretical openness and critical intervention. Abstract:Since 1978, contemporary Chinese philosophy has entered a new stage of development. The last two decades have witnessed three hot topics: "practice," "man," and "Cultural Heritage Studies." They reflect the following major transitions: (1) from practice as a standard to practical materialism, (2) from humanism to the Study of Man, and (3) from Culture mania to [Chinese] Cultural Heritage Studies mania. The first topic is an expression of the reflection and innovation going on in Marxist philosophy; the issues of the Study of Man and Cultural Heritage Studies reflect the influences of modern Western philosophy and traditional Chinese philosophy. The interaction of Marxist philosophy, modern Western philosophy, and traditional Chinese philosophy is not only the major theme in contemporary Chinese philosophy, but also its promising prospect. Therefore, research into their interaction is of theoretical, as well as practical, significance.

Abstract:Theory of reflection was mostly taken as method or principle for Wen Xin Diao Long [The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons] study in Wang Yuanhua's later academic life.In his "The Rise of Landscape Poetry Revealed in 'Ming Shi Chapter' of Wen Xin Diao Long" in 1962,he interpreted Liu Xie's "With the retreat of Zhuangzi and Laozi,there came landscape poetry" mechanically as "With the retreat of idealism,there came materialism".In his first version of 1979's Study of Wen Xin Diao Long,he discarded Jian Shi as lost article.In the revised version of his Articles on Wen Xin Diao Long in 1992,he discarded class analysis,idolatrous language and pattern labels which existed in the version in 1979.Even in his "dialogue on deathbed" his study of Wen Xin Diao Long still carried reflection principle,which lasted as long as half a century.All the century-long academic misplacement of Chinese literature should be attributed the deep negative influence of Soviet theoretical pattern on Chinese academy.
