Abstract:With the chiral susceptibility criterion, we obtain the phase diagram of strong-interaction matter in terms of temperature and chemical potential in the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations of QCD. After calculating the pressure and some other thermodynamic properties of the matter in the Dyson-Schwinger method, we get the phase diagram in terms of temperature and baryon number density. We also obtain the interface tension and the interface entropy density to describe the inhomogeneity of the two phases in the coexistence region of the first-order phase transition. After including the interface effect, we find that the total entropy density of the system increases in both the deconfinement (dynamical chiral symmetry restoration) and the hadronization (dynamical chiral symmetry breaking) processes of the first-order phase transitions and thus solve the entropy puzzle in the hadronization process.

Abstract:In this paper, we use a separable gluon propagator model to study the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) phase transition at finite temperature and chiral chemical potential. Using this model, we calculate the quark condensate and the chiral susceptibility at finite temperature and chiral chemical potential both in the chiral limit and at finite current quark mass. Based on these, we obtain the QCD phase diagram in the μ5-T plane.

Abstract:We investigate the chemical potential effects of the equation of state and the chiral transition in an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-scalar system, which is obtained from an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model coupled with an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system. The equations of state obtained from the model are in quantitative agreement with the lattice results at both zero and nonzero chemical potentials. The sensible chiral transition behaviors can be realized in the model. The QCD phase diagram with a CEP has also been obtained from the model.

Abstract:In this paper the QCD phase diagram is obtained by the crossing of two effective models: the MIT bag based models are used to describe quark matter and QHD type models to describe hadronic matter, being the use of the former something new to this kind of approach and the latter used with improved parameterizations as compared with previous calculations. We use the Gibbs' conditions to establish the crossing points of the pressure in function of the chemical potential obtained in both phases. We first analyze two-flavour symmetric matter constrained to both the freeze-out and the liquid-gas phase transition at the hadronic phase. Later we analyse the results for $\beta$-stable and charge neutral stellar matter and compare two different prescriptions: one that assumes flavour conservation, so that the quark phase is completely determined from the hadronic phase, a prescription never applied to finite temperatures before, and the other based on the Maxwell construction, where the quark phase is also $\beta$-stable. At the end, we compute the latent heat to find a signature of the critical end point.

Abstract:We investigate both the chiral and deconfinement phase transitions of QCD matter in a refined scheme of Dyson-Schwinger equations, which have been shown to be successful in giving the meson mass spectrum and matching the interaction with the results from ab initio computation. We verify the equivalence of the chiral susceptibility criterion with different definitions for the susceptibility and confirm that the chiral susceptibility criterion is efficient to fix not only the chiral phase boundary but also the critical end point (CEP), especially when one could not have the effective thermodynamical potential. We propose a generalized Schwinger function criterion for the confinement. We give the phase diagram of both phase transitions and show that in the refined scheme the position of the CEP shifts to lower chemical potential and higher temperature. Based on our calculation and previous results of the chemical freeze-out conditions, we propose that the CEP is located in the states of the matter generated by the Au--Au collisions with $\sqrt{{s}_{NN}}=9--15\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}$.

Abstract:In recent years there has been much progress on the investigation of the QCD phase diagram with lattice QCD simulations. In this review we focus on the developments in the last two years. Especially the addition of external influences or new parameter ranges yields an increasing number of interesting results. We discuss the progress for small, finite densities from both extrapolation-based methods (Taylor expansion and analytic continuation for imaginary chemical potential) and complex Langevin simulations, for heavy quark bound states (quarkonium), the dependence on the quark masses (Columbia plot) and the influence of a magnetic field. Many of these conditions are relevant for the understanding of both the QCD transition in the early universe and heavy ion collision experiments, which are conducted for example at the LHC and RHIC.

Abstract:We introduce a method based on chiral susceptibility, which enables one to draw a phase diagram in the chemical-potential-temperature plane for strongly interacting quarks whose interactions are described by any reasonable gap equation, even if the diagrammatic content of the quark-gluon vertex is unknown. We locate a critical end point at (mu(E), T(E)) similar to (1.0, 0.9)T(c), where T(c) is the critical temperature for chiral-symmetry restoration at mu = 0, and find that a domain of phase coexistence opens at the critical end point whose area increases as a confinement length scale grows.
Constructing the Equation of State of QCD in a functional QCD based scheme

Abstract:We construct the equation of state (EoS) of QCD based on the finite chemical potential information from the functional QCD approaches, with the assistance of the lattice QCD EoS. The obtained EoS is consistent with the up-to-date estimations of the QCD phase diagram, including a phase transition temperature at zero chemical potential of $T=155$ MeV, the curvature of the transition line $\kappa=0.016$ and also a critical end point at $(T,\mu_B)=(118, 600)$ MeV. In specific, the phase diagram mapping is achieved by incorporating the order parameters into the EoS, namely the dynamical quark mass for the chiral phase transition together with the Polyakov loop parameter for the deconfinement phase transition. We also implement the EoS in hydrodynamic simulations to compute the particle yields, ratios and collective flow, and find that our obtained EoS agrees well with the commonly used one based on the combination of lattice QCD simulation and hadron resonance gas model.

Abstract:QCD thermodynamics is studied using a model which combines Polyakov loop dynamics with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and its restoration (the PNJL model). The input is fixed entirely by pure-gauge lattice QCD results and by pion properties in vacuum. Successful comparisons with results from thermal lattice QCD are achieved, including extrapolations to finite quark chemical potential. The phase diagram and selected susceptibilities for two quark flavors are investigated with inclusion of diquark degrees of freedom.
Dyson-Schwinger equations towards cold-dense QCD matter with improved truncations

Abstract:We take the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) approach of QCD to study the phase transition and the equation of state of cold dense matter. Besides the bare vertex and Gauss gluon model, we take into account an improved truncation scheme, the CLRQ vertex and infrared-constant gluon model. For the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking solution of the DSE, we require that the emergence of quark number density to be at the chemical potential for the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition to take place, by incorporating a chemical potential dependent modification factor to the gluon model. The result shows that our modified scheme can not only describe the phase transition of the cold dense matter well but also the deduced equation of state of the matter can describe the recent astronomical observations consistently.

Abstract:As an important set of thermodynamic quantities, knowledge of the equation of state over a broad range of temperatures and chemical potentials in the QCD phase diagram is crucial for our understanding of strongly-interacting matter. There is a good understanding from first-principles results in lattice QCD, perturbative QCD and chiral effective field theory about the equation of state. However, these approaches are valid in different regimes of the phase diagram, and therefore, a method of providing an equation of state that covers a full range of the phase diagram involves matching together these results with appropriate models in order to fill in the gaps between these regions. Furthermore, with such equations of state, important questions about QCD phase structure can begin to be addressed, such as whether there is a critical point in the QCD phase diagram. In this contribution to the proceedings, equations of state from first-principles and effective theories will be discussed in order to understand how QCD thermodynamics is affected by the presence of a critical point.

Abstract:bstract In the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) approach, we propose a chemical potential dependent effective gluon propagator and the quark gap equation is solved with such a gluon propagator. It is found for the first time in DSE approach that with light current quark mass m ≠ 0, the Wigner solution will appear at some chemical potential μ W . Based on this, the chiral phase transition at finite chemical potential is studied and the result shows that it is a first-order phase transition. The results are compared with the known results in the literature.

Abstract:We introduce a novel method for computing the (mu, T)-dependent pressure in continuum QCD, from which we obtain a complex phase diagram and predictions for thermal properties of the dressed-quark component of the system, providing the in-medium behavior of the related trace anomaly, speed of sound, latent heat, and heat capacity.

Abstract:We study the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) of three-dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED3) at finite chemical potential and temperature in the framework of Dyson–Schwinger approach. Based on the rainbow approximation and assumption that the wave-function renormalization factor equals to one, the dynamically generated mass function is derived and then the corresponding phase diagram in the (T, μ) plane is obtained.

Abstract:We study the QCD equation of state and other thermodynamic observables including the isentropic trajectories and the speed of sound. These observables are of eminent importance for the understanding of experimental results in heavy ion collisions and also provide a QCD input for studies of the timeline of heavy-ion-collisions with hydrodynamical simulations. They can be derived from the quark propagator whose gap equation is solved within a minimal approximation to the Dyson-Schwinger equations of QCD at finite temperature and density. This minimal approximation aims at a combination of computational efficiency and simplification of the truncation scheme while maintaining quantitative precision. This minimal DSE scheme is confronted and benchmarked with results for correlation functions and observables from first principles QCD lattice at vanishing density and quantitative functional approaches at finite density.

Abstract:We study the stability of the highest symmetric solution (Wigner-solution) of Dyson–Schwinger equations in chiral limit and at zero temperature. Our results confirm that if the chemical potential is not very large, the QCD vacuum is in the chiral symmetry breaking phase and the quantum phase-transition of the chiral symmetry restoration is in first order. Meanwhile, it seems that there is not competition between chiral breaking phase and color superconductivity phase since the color superconductivity phase appears only if the chemical potential is very large. Moreover, we propose that chiral symmetry breaking arises from the positive feedback with respect to the mass perturbation.

Abstract:Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase diagram is usually plotted as temperature (T) versus the chemical potential associated with the conserved baryon number (\mu_{B}). Two fundamental properties of QCD, related to confinement and chiral symmetry, allows for two corresponding phase transitions when T and \mu_{B} are varied. Theoretically the phase diagram is explored through non-perturbative QCD calculations on lattice. The energy scale for the phase diagram (\Lambda_{QCD} ~ 200 MeV) is such that it can be explored experimentally by colliding nuclei at varying beam energies in the laboratory. In this paper we review some aspects of the QCD phase structure as explored through the experimental studies using high energy nuclear collisions. Specifically, we discuss three observations related to the formation of a strongly coupled plasma of quarks and gluons in the collisions, experimental search for the QCD critical point on the phase diagram and freeze-out properties of the hadronic phase.
