Abstract:We prove that perturbing the periodic annulus of the reversible quadratic polynomial differential system $\dot x=y+ax^2$ , $\dot y=-x$ with a ≠ 0 inside the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems we can obtain at most two limit cycles, including their multiplicities. Since the first integral of the unperturbed system contains an exponential function, the traditional methods cannot be applied, except in Figuerasa, Tucker and Villadelprat (2013, J. Diff. Equ. , 254 , 3647–3663) a computer-assisted method was used. In this paper, we provide a method for studying the problem. This is also the first purely mathematical proof of the conjecture formulated by Dumortier and Roussarie (2009, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. , 2 , 723–781) for q ⩽ 2. The method may be used in other problems.

Abstract:We study the bifurcations of limit cycles in a class of planar reversible quadratic systems whose critical points are a center, a saddle and two nodes, under small quadratic perturbations. By using the properties of related complete elliptic integrals and the geometry of some planar curves defined by them, we prove that at most two limit cycles bifurcate from the period annulus around the center. This bound is exact.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the bifurcation of limit cycles of the periodic annulus of two classes of cubic isochronous systems. By using complete elliptic integrals of the first, second kinds and the Chebyshev criterion, we show that the upper bound for the number of limit cycles which appear from the periodic annuli of the two systems are at least three under cubic perturbations. Moreover, there exists a perturbation that give rise to exactly i limit cycles bifurcating from the period annulus for each i = 0,1, 2, 3.

Abstract:We investigate the bifurcations of limit cycles in a class of planar quadratic integrable (non-Hamiltonian) systems with two centres, both surrounded by unbounded heteroclinic loops, under small quadratic perturbations. By a careful study of the number of zeros of Abelian integrals based on the geometric properties of some planar curves, defined by ratios of such integrals, we obtain complete results about the number and the distribution of limit cycles bifurcating from the two period annuli.

Abstract:In this paper, the Hopf bifurcation for a class of three-dimensional quadratic system is investigated by making use of singular values methods. Studied system lies in symmetrical vector field with regard to planar y = x and it has two symmetrical singular points (1,2,1) and (2,1,1). We give the expressions of the first three focal values of the singular point (1,2,1) and show that each one of the two singular points (1,2,1) and (2,1,1) of the investigated system can become a fine focus of third order at the same time. Moreover, we obtain that each one of the two singular points (1,2,1) and (2,1,1) of the investigated system can bifurcate three small limit cycles under a certain coefficient's disturbed condition. In sum, six limit cycles can bifurcate from system (1). In terms of Hopf bifurcation of a three-dimensional quadratic system, our results are new and interesting.

Abstract:The present paper is devoted to the study of the maximum number of limit cycles bifurcated from the periodic orbits of the quadratic isochronous center x˙=−y+163x2−43y2,y˙=x+83xy by the averaging method of first order, when it is perturbed inside a class of discontinuous quadratic polynomial differential systems. The Chebyshev criterion is used to show that this maximum number is 5 and can be realizable. In some sense, the result and that in paper [6] also answer the questions left in the paper [9].

Abstract:In this paper, the perturbation of a class of cubic Hamiltonian systems is considered. Using Abelian integral, we prove that there exists a neighborhood of the center where the system has at most two limit cycles for arbitrary polynomial perturbation of degree three or four, and at most four limit cycles for arbitrary polynomial perturbation of degree five or six, respectively, which can be reached.

This paper mainly considers the problem of limit cycle bifurcation for quadratic polynomial systems near a triangle. The method used is singular value method, we obtain the expressions of the first five focal values of the two singular points that the system has. Both singular symmetric points can be fine foci of fifth order at the same time. Moreover, we obtain that each one bifurcates five small limit cycles under a certain coefficient perturbed condition, consequently, at least ten limit cycles can appear by simultaneous Hopf bifurcation.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with degree n polynomial perturbations of a class of planar non-Hamiltonian reversible quadratic integrable system whose almost all orbits are cubics. We give an estimate of the number of limit cycles for such a system. If the first-order Melnikov function (Abelian integral) M1(h) is not identically zero, then the perturbed system has at most 5 for n=3 and 3n-7 for n⩾4 limit cycles on the finite plane. If M1(h) is identically zero but the second Melnikov function is not, then an upper bound for the number of limit cycles on the finite plane is 11 for n=3 and 6n-13 for n⩾4, respectively. In the case when the perturbation is quadratic (n=2), there exists a neighborhood U of the initial non-Hamiltonian polynomial system in the space of all quadratic vector fields such that any system in U has at most two limit cycles on the finite plane. The bound for n=2 is exact.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of cubic systems with polynomial perturbation of the degree at most \begin{document}$ n $\end{document}, and estimate the upper bound of the number of isolated zeros of its Abelian integral. Abstract:This paper is concerned with the bifurcation of limit cycles in general quadratic perturbations of quadratic codimension-four centres Q4. Gavrilov and Iliev set an upper bound of eight for the number of limit cycles produced from the period annuli around the centre. Based on Gavrilov–Iliev's proof, we prove in this paper that the perturbed system has at most five limit cycles which emerge from the period annuli around the centre. We also show that there exists a perturbed system with three limit cycles produced by the period annuli of Q4.
