Abstract:Detailed analysis shows that the famous Iyengar inequality actually says that the Trapezoidal formula is a central algorithm for approximating integrals over an appropriate interval for the class of functions whose derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense. The inherent nonlinearity from central algorithms reflects the importance of the Iyengar inequality and thus makes familiar linear methods malfunction when one tries to generalize it. It is shown that the generalization depends on a nonlinear system of equations satisfied by a set of free nodes of a perfect spline. Explicit constructions are obtained in the spirit of the Iyengar inequality for the class of functions whose r th ( r ≤4) derivatives are bounded by a positive number K in L ∞ -sense because a closed solution to the nonlinear system is only available for r ≤4. Connections with computational mathematics, especially with best interpolation and best quadrature, are discussed. Numerical experiments are also included.

Abstract:Jensen’s inequality and extended Jensen’s inequality are two important integral inequalities when problems of stability analysis and controller synthesis for time-delay systems are considered. The extended Jensen’s inequality introduces two additional free matrices and is generally regarded to be less conservative than Jensen’s inequality. The equivalence between Jensen’s inequality and extended Jensen’s inequality in bounding the quadratic term −h∫t−htẋT(s)Zẋ(s)ds in Lyapunov functional of time-delay systems is presented and theoretically proved. It is shown that the extended Jensen’s inequality does not decrease the lower bound of this quadratic term obtained using Jensen’s inequality, and then it does not reduce the conservativeness though two additional free matrices M1 and M2 are involved.

Abstract:Pseudo-splines of type I were introduced in [I. Daubechies, B. Han, A. Ron, Z. Shen, Framelets: MRA-based constructions of wavelet frames, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 14 (2003) 1–46] and [Selenick, Smooth wavelet tight frames with zero moments, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 10 (2000) 163–181] and type II were introduced in [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104]. Both types of pseudo-splines provide a rich family of refinable functions with B-splines, interpolatory refinable functions and refinable functions with orthonormal shifts as special examples. In [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104], Dong and Shen gave a regularity analysis of pseudo-splines of both types. The key to regularity analysis is Proposition 3.2 in [B. Dong, Z. Shen, Pseudo-splines, wavelets and framelets, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22 (2007) 78–104], which also appeared in [A. Cohen, J.P. Conze, Régularité des bases d'ondelettes et mesures ergodiques, Rev. Mat. Iberoamericana 8 (1992) 351–365] and [I. Daubechies, Ten Lectures on Wavelets, CBMS-NSF Series in Applied Mathematics, SIAM, Philadelphia, 1992] for the case l=N−1. In this note, we will give a new insight into this proposition.
Several inequalities concerning interpolation in classical Fourier analysis

Abstract:In this note, we establish several interpolation inequalities in $\mathbb R^n$ in the Lebesgue spaces and Morrey spaces. By using the classical Calderon--Zygmund decomposition, we will reprove that $L^{p}(\mathbb R^n)\cap\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb R^n)\subset L^{q}(\mathbb R^n)$ for all $q$ with $p<q<\infty$, where $1\leq p<\infty$. We also reprove that there exists a constant $C(p,q,n)$ depending on $p,q,n$ such that the following inequality \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{L^q}\leq C(p,q,n)\cdot\big(\|f\|_{L^p}\big)^{p/q}\cdot\big(\|f\|_{\mathrm{BMO}}\big)^{1-p/q} \end{equation*} holds for all $f\in L^{p}(\mathbb R^n)\cap\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb R^n)$ with $1\leq p<\infty$. Moreover, this embedding constant has the optimal growth order $q$ as $q\to\infty$, which was given by Chen--Zhu, and Kozono--Wadade. We will show that $L^{p,\kappa}(\mathbb R^n)\cap\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb R^n)\subset L^{q,\kappa}(\mathbb R^n)$ for all $q$ with $p<q<\infty$, where $1\leq p<\infty$ and $0<\kappa<1$. Moreover, there exists a constant $\widetilde{C}(p,q,n)$ depending on $p,q,n$ such that \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{L^{q,\kappa}}\leq \widetilde{C}(p,q,n)\cdot\big(\|f\|_{L^{p,\kappa}}\big)^{p/q}\cdot\big(\|f\|_{\mathrm{BMO}}\big)^{1-p/q} \end{equation*} holds for all $f\in L^{p,\kappa}(\mathbb R^n)\cap\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb R^n)$ with $1\leq p<\infty$ and $0<\kappa<1$. This embedding constant is shown to have the linear growth order as $q\to\infty$, that is, $\widetilde{C}(p,q,n)\leq C_n\cdot q$ with the constant $C_n$ depending only on the dimension $n$, when $q$ is large. As an application of the above results, some new bilinear estimates are also established, which can be used in the study of the global existence and regularity of weak solutions to elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations of the second order.

Abstract:We investigate {\bf explicit} universal estimate of finite Morse index solutions to polyharmonic equations. \,Differently to previous works \cite{BL2, DDF, fa, H1}, propose here a direct proof using a new interpolation inequality and a delicate boot-strap argument under large superlinear and subcritical growth conditions to show that the universal constant grows as a power function of the Morse index.\, Also, our interpolation inequality allows us to provide local $L^p$-$W^{2r,p}$ estimate.

Abstract:We present a simple proof of some interpolation inequalities between Hölder and Lebesgue's spaces. As an example, to demonstrate the simplicity of their applications to nonlinear PDE, we give also a simple proof of an a-priory estimate in a smooth Hölder class for a solution to some quasilinear parabolic initial boundary value problem.

Abstract:The classical Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, known as an interpolation inequality, involves Lebesgue norms of functions and their derivatives. We established an interpolation lemma to connect Lebesgue and Hölder spaces, thus extending the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality. This extension involved substituting arbitrary Sobolev norms with appropriate Hölder norms, allowing for a wider range of applicable parameters in the inequality.

Approximation Theory and Its Applications

Abstract:Under the only assumption of the cone property for a given domain Ω⊂R n, it is proved that interpolation inequalities for intermediate derivatives of functions in the Sobolev spaces Wm,p (Ω) or even in some weighted Sobolve spaces W w m,p (Ω) still hold. That is, the usual additional restrictions that Ω is bounded or has the uniform cone property are both removed. The main tools used are polynomial inequalities, by which it is also obtained pointwise version interpolation inequalities for smooth and analytic functions. Such pointwise version inequalities give explicit decay estimates for derivatives at infinity in unbounded domains which have the cone property. As an application of the decay estimates, a previous result on radial basis function approximation of smooth functions is extended to the derivative-simultaneous approximation.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue the study of John–Nirenberg theorems for BMO/Lipschitz spaces in the noncommutative martingale setting. As conjectured from the classical case, a desired noncommutative "stopping time" argument was discovered to obtain the distribution function inequality form of John–Nirenberg theorem. This not only provides another approach without using duality and interpolation to the results for spaces and , but also allows us to find the desired version of John–Nirenberg inequalities for spaces and . And thus we solve two open questions after (Chen et al. in Atomic decompositions for noncommutative martingales. arXiv: 2001.08775v1, math. OA, 2020; Hong and Mei in J Funct Anal 263:1064–1097, 2012). As an application, we show that Lipschitz space is also the dual space of noncommutative Hardy space defined via symmetric atoms. Finally, our results for as well as the approach seem new even going back to the classical setting.

Abstract:The classical Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality was established in R-n. An extension to a bounded domain was given by Gagliardo in 1959. In this note, we present a simple proof of this result and prove a new Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality in a bounded Lipschitz domain.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain two interpolation theorems on convex-set valued Lebesgue spaces, which generalize the Marcinkiewicz interpolation theorem and Riesz-Thorin interpolation theorem on classical Lebesgue spaces, respectively. As applications, we obtain the boundedness of convex-set valued fractional averaging operators and fractional maximal operators, and prove the reverse factorization property of matrix weights.

We first give a new proof and we extend inequalities of Jian Xiao on mixed discriminants. Then, we use the mass transport method to deduce some Bézout type inequalities for mixed volumes. Finally, we apply these inequalities to obtain Bézout type inequalities for Minkowski sums.

Abstract:In this note, we will prove an inequality for almost plurisubharmonic functions on any Kahler-Einstein manifolds with positive scalar curvature. Abstract:Theory interpolation has found several successful applications in model checking. We present a novel method for computing interpolants for ground formulas in the theory of equality. The method produces interpolants from colored congruence graphs representing derivations in that theory. These graphs can be produced by conventional congruence closure algorithms in a straightforward manner. By working with graphs, rather than at the level of individual proof steps, we are able to derive interpolants that are pleasingly simple (conjunctions of Horn clauses) and smaller than those generated by other tools. Our interpolation method can be seen as a theory-specific implementation of a cooperative interpolation game between two provers. We present a generic version of the interpolation game, parametrized by the theory T, and define a general method to extract runs of the game from proofs in T and then generate interpolants from these runs.
